Cannot open Acrobat Reader X (10.1.0)
Everytime I attempt to open Acrobat Reader on my PC, I get the Windows Error box asking if I want to tell Microsoft about the problem. This has only started happening since installing Reader X (10.1.0).
I have attempted to repair the installation.
I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall.
I have verified the registry was cleaned.
I am running Windows XP SP3.
Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime, I am looking for an installation package for Acrobat Reader 9.
Can you post a screenshot of the crash dialog that you see? Also, is there anything specific about your system - virus scanner, accessibility tool that you use, etc?
You can download older versions of Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

I have Reader version 8.1.2, which I use on Windows XP Pro. Most of the time when I try to open a download I get the message "Error Opening this document. This file cannot be found".
This is so frustrating because I have to look at lots of PDF files. Occasionally it opens, but reverts to the error message on the subsequent times.
Does anybody have a solution for this.Thank you for that tip. When I download attachments from an email and it does that error, I can retrieve the downloaded PDF by going into My Documents. The problem comes when I am obtaining quotes or other information directly from a website, because they are not saved anywhere. If I could open them, I could then save them or print them off, but in this case I cannot even see them.

Cannot open adobe reader at all
I cannot open Adobe reader, even the icon on my desktop I mean. I have windows 7 and I could not open PDF file on web either. It will have a full blue bar telling me it is fully downloaded but the actual content never shows up. I tried uninstall and install for more than five times. Anyone could help?
Sorry, it is not quite clear to me if you have Adobe Reader actually installed or not.
I suggest that you uninstall it (again), then try installing with the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ -
Cannot open adobe reader file............could not open because it was not a supported type file...........or damaged by email.... What support does it need????
Impossible to say. All we can know is that it is NOT a valid PDF file.
You could take a look. Try this.
1. Open the file in Microsoft Word (or NotePad).
2. If the file is good, use it - it was a Word (or text) file.
3. Otherwise, look at the first few lines. These will probably be gobbledegook.
4. Copy and paste the first few lines into your reply, perhaps someone will recognise what the file really is. -

Can't open Acrobat Reader. Got a Windows error due to system problem, Windows automatically closes it.
It says...
Adobe Reader has stopped operation
"Because something has happened, causing the application not to operate normally, Windows will shut down the application, should there be any resolution to it will let you know."
Even if I uninstall the Adobe Reader and re-install it again, the same error message happens. -

Cannot get Acrobat Reader or Pro to open PDF IN FF browser
I have a Win7, 64 bit laptop. I have Acrobat Pro X, and Acrobat Reader 11.
I cannot get FF to open a pdf using either of these readers INSIDE the browser. I do not like the internal PDF viewer and I was trying to get Acrobat to render the PDF in the browser. However, whenever I choose acrobat (either one) in options, it will merely download it and open it the application. However, what I want it to do is to open it IN the browser, not in the application.
There is no option for Portable Document Format that includes Acrobat in browser. I had configured it to work properly, but I had to reformat my computer and I can't get it to work again. I have disabled and re-enabled the add-ins for Acrobat, and I still can't get it to work.Which version(s) of Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat do you have? Do you know whether they are up-to-date? I recommend using the product's Help menu to Check for Updates to make sure they are up-to-date.
Then open the Firefox Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* 3-bar menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins.
Look in the lower section (gray background) for "Adobe Acrobat" and change it from "Never Activate" to "Always Activate".
Then it should become available in the Options dialog.
Does it work?
Also, I noticed you have a NitroPDF plugin listed in your More System Details. In case that one is conflicting, if you don't plan to use it, consider switching it to "Never Activate" when you are on the Add-ons page. -
Cannot open form - Reader & Acrobat crash
Hello,
I am facing a strange issue here on our citrix servers (Win 2008 x64, Citrix PS 4.5)
We have both Acrobat reader 9.4 and Acrobat Std 9.4 installed on the servers (problem occurs with verson 9.3 also)
When we try to open some pdf files (with either the reader or Acrobat), the window launches, and displays a part of the file, then the app crashes..
Those pdf for which the issue occur all contain forms. I even tried generating a simple pdf form containing one text box, and the problem occurs.
What is strangest is that if i save the file on disk (from say an email), I cannot open it. Consistently. This is always reproduced.
If I logoff, then log back on, I can then consistently open it.
It makes no difference if the file is saved on my desktop (we have roaming profiles), or in my home directory.
This does not affect all pdfs, but all users for some pdfs..
I have tried uninstalling one of the 2 products, but the other one keeps on crashing.
Nothing in the event logs, I tried to procmon, could not spot anything.
Any help would be VERY appreciated

Cannot open Acrobat 6 Pro after opening Reader 8 and viceversa
There is a compatibility issue between Acrord32.exe and Acrobat.exe files?
My Acrobat 6 Professional does not open while viewing a PDF in Reader 8, get a empty Reader 8 window instead of Acrobat 6.
When trying the opposite, the Reader 8 shows the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."
Operating system is Windows XP Professional and browser is Internet Explorer 7.Reader leaves a resident part running, even after you close it. To open Acrobat, you must first shut down the resident part from the task list.

Cannot Open Adobe Reader X/XI
Currently experiencing issues with Adobe Reader X/XI. Organization wide problem. Adobe Reader X/XI is not starting/opening at all.
Information:
Adobe Reader X/XI 64-Bit with update 11.0.0.5
Windows 7
Event Viewer doesn't show any application error logs or anything related to the problem from what I can see.
Any idea what can be causing this? Some other things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html
