Cannot open annotated ibook on IOS7

I created an iBook using iBooks Author. It is full of reference material for my work.  I put it on my iPad and I have used it for a couple of years and annotated it with copious notes over that time.
Since upgrading to IOS 7 I cannot open the book on iBooks on my iPad. I get the message "It is formatted incorrectly, or is in a format that iBooks cannot open."
I still have the original on my mac, and the iPad has been regularly backed up but I do not want to lose the annotations that have been added on the iPad.
Does anybody know of a way to get the file opened on the iPad or the mac?

Natively, iOS only handles zip files (I beleive). you may need to check the app store for an app that handles winrar

  • I can't open Maps, iBooks, or the App Store on my Mac

I just installed OS X 10.9 Mavericks on my Mac (specs below). The install went fairly smoothly with no hiccups. After installing, I ran CleanMyMac, which cleared my cache, language files, etc. I've run this program millions of times before with no problems.
I've now discovered that I cannot open Maps, iBooks, or the App Store on my Mac. I can open and run iTunes, but when prompted by iTunes to update to the latest version, I click 'OK' and see no response (i.e., the App Store does not open).
    Can anyone provide any guidance?
    Specs:
    Mid-2009 MBP 13.3
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB RAM
    750GB 7200RPM HDD

Yesterday was the first time I use the CleanMyMac and thanks it damaged my OS.
My solution was Reinstalling OS X
    How?
Restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Note: be sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
I did it today, it's finally working without any loss!

  • Can't open an ibook fron my iphone in itunes

I cannot open an ibook from my iphone in itunes.
Iphone was sync and book is listed but I cannot open to read it.

    That is correct.
Ibooks are for iphone/ipod touch/ipad, not computers.

  • HT4059 i cannot open any books on my IMac. OS 10.5.8. downloaded the latest Itunes. LOST!

i cannot open any Ibooks on my Macbook. i have downloaded the latest i tune & run OS 10.5.8..what am i doing wrong?

You can't currently read ibooks on a Mac or PC - they can only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

  • I cannot open the book i downloaded from I tunes on my mac pro

I downloaded a book from I Tunes on my computer and I cannot open it. What should I do?

Books downloaded from iTunes are not optimized for the Mac OS X, but for iOS devices such as iPhones, iPads, and the iPod touch.
In other words, you cannot open an iBook and read it on your Mac.
According to Apple...   iTunes Store: All Sales Are Final
But it won't hurt to contact iTunes Billing and explain what happened.

  • I have iPad 4th Generation with iOS 6.1.3  Since my iBooks was updated to version 3.1.1 I cannot open pdf file attachment in my email.  When I tap of the attachment, the iBooks icon no longer show itself.  Can someone please help?

I have iPad 4th Generation with iOS 6.1.3  Since my iBooks was updated to version 3.1.1 I cannot open pdf file attachment in my email.  When I tap of the attachment, the iBooks icon no longer show itself.  Can someone please help?

Thanks for all (Ocean20 & Courcoul) who replied.
Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time.  My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down.

  • I have updated iPad to 7.1.1 and cannot open iBooks

Do a reset i.e. hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

  • TS1702 help!!!!  I cannot open books in ibooks,  says "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing"  how do i reopen purchased books?

I cannot open open purchased books fro ibooks,  a window pops up saying "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing"  not sure what has happened, extremely frustrating.....does it have something to o with icloud?

Quit the iBooks app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logou appears and let go of the button.
Or try deleting the book and download it again. You can download it again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID.
If that doesn't work either, sometimes deleting the iBooks app and reinstalling it may work. But art with the first two suggestions.

  • Using the ipad with ios7, cannot open mail links

I cannot open mail links on the ipad using ios7.  Anyone else having this problem?

I can confirm that I'm having the same issue on my verizon iphone 4 on ios 7. If I click a link in an e-mail sent to me through the IOS mail app, safari often does not open. I've noticed that some pages will open. For example. A friend sent me a link to a story on imore.com. The link to the story would not open in safari. Dead. However, a separate link in the e-mail to the main site, imore.com DID open in safari when I tapped on it. I've had this issues with links not working for the last 2-3 weeks, and for whatever reason a reboot of the phone (hold down on/off and home, wait for logo, release buttons) has temporarily fixed the issue.

  • Hello....anyone know why when emailing an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it

Hello.... can anyone tell me why when I email myself an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it. Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups.  The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more.  The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

  • Cannot open books in iBooks ipad2 new purchases and ones I am reading

Cannot open downloaded books in iBook library  I could before

If you haven't already done so then try closing the iBooks app via the iPad's multitasking bar and then do a soft-reset and see if you can then open the books. To close iBooks : Bouble-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the iBooks app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
Soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still can't open them then copy your ibooks over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that will copy epubs and/or PDFs in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks ; you might also be able to redownload ibooks via the Purchased tab in the iBookstore in the app), delete the app from your iPad, and then redownload the app and sync your books back - deleting the app will lose any notes/highlights that you have in your books
