Cannot open CC, indd files saved in an earlier versions in CS6

When attempting to open CC files inside of version CS6 that have been saved by students in version CS4 and later, I get the following message" Cannot open "fileName.indd" because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe  InDesign (CS7.0) You must use tht version or later to open the file... How can I open these files? I also get plugin messages.

That's weird. But I guess they didn't properly Exported the file into an .idml file. Save As is different from File -> Export to idml
If your student did just File -> Save As, thinking that Save As works just like MS Word that saving it will work with backward compatibility to a lower version of InDesign then probably it won't work.
However, just ask them to Re-Export the file to .idml and see if you can open it in your InDesign CS6.

Does anybody know why Illustrator will open Solidworks DWG files saved in R2007-2009 version but not version R2010?

Evidently Solidworks changed the output of their files to a format that AI cannot interpret. Just backsave in Solidworks to the required version.

  • Nikon d600, cannot open my NEF files in RAW.  I have PS cs6.  Please help!

I have a Nikon d600, Adobe PS cs6, and cannot open my NEF files in RAW.  Please help!

In Photoshop, if you go to Help/About Plug-Ins/Camera Raw, what version of Camera Raw is reported? There should only be one version. And since you have Photoshop CS6 you could install Camera Raw 8.3.
Since you downloaded with the Nikon program, it could have changed your raw files such that they cannot be opened in Camera Raw. I understand there is a utility somewhere that will fix the files if that is the problem. But I don't recall how to find that utility.
Next time you have raw files to download, I suggest you use Lightroom to do the downloading from the card. I see no value in using any of the Nikon software to perform that task. If there is any chance that you still have the images on the card, I would suggest trying to download them again using Lightroom. But first you would have to remove the ones that you downloaded initially.

  • Premiere Pro version regressed? 'Cannot open as project was saved in a newer version'

    Hi folks,
Have a bit of a bad 'un here..
This week I have been using the updated Premiere Pro.. The one with the splash screen showing purple 'wireframe mountains'.
I've come into work today and the machines are back to the version with the rug/canvas thing covered in circles,  8.0.1 (21)
Now I can't open any projects I did with the 'wireframe mountains' version due to the error 'this was saved in a newer version'. Now, annoyingly in Creative cloud it tells me Premiere is up-to-date? I don't recall time-travelling into the future?
Can anyone help ? I really could do with the project files..
    Much appreciated,
    Dave,

To elaborate a bit, I've also tried the good 'ol 'import sequences' work-around, it connects to the dynamic link manager thing then does nothing..

  • InDesign CS5 "Cannot open [filename].indd Mac

I received a CS5 .indd file that I just completed editing. I saved it and later went to open it. I received the message "Cannot open [filename].indd"
I've tried restarting computer and everything else I can think of.
I just have no clues as to why this CS5 to CS5 file won't open up again for me.
    Thank you!!
    Laura

Also, I found a Markzware video on YouTube, downloaded the recommended Hex Editor, and tried to follow the YouTube instructions without success. (Instructions were not very clear.)
Huh, I had not seen that Markzware video before. I assume you're referring to: Adobe InDesign Cannot open file; missing plug in - Solution
It's certainly not very clear. What they fail to mention is that all InDesign files start with the same 16-byte code, called, a GUID. Namely 0606EDF5-D81D-46e5-BD31-EFE7FE74B71D. And then they're followed by an 8-byte string with the type of file, usually 'DOCUMENT'. (But it could be 'LIBRARY4' for a .indl library file, etc.
So if you pop open your hex editor and don't immediately see 'DOCUMENT' on the 2nd line (assuming 16 bytes per line), then you know something is corrupt at the begnning of hte file. So you can search for DOCUMENT (or also for 0606EDF5-D81D-46e5-BD31-EFE7FE74B71D but 'DOCUMENT' is easier).
I don't know what causes this extra 128-bytes problem, and frankly I find it pretty unlikely that it's your problem. But easy enough to check!
[ They also seem to be a bit confused about bytes vs. bits in that video. Since there are 8 bits to a byte, 128 bits is 16 bytes, which is kind of confusing. ]
I think in this case the file was emailed and some email program added an extra headerat the front of the file...

  • Cannot open "filename.indd" in CS5.5

    Hey helpful people,
I have a large 90pg project in indesign that was passed to me by a previous designer to be finished and edited. The file was last opened this past summer in CS5. I have since upgraded to CS5.5 and am now needing to finish this project. I tryed opening it for the first time the other day and InDesign said "Cannot open "filename.indd". Before I downloaded the lastest update to InDesign I attempted to open the file as a copy and InDesign said it Cannot open "filename.indd". The file "filename.indd" is damaged (Error code: 4). I've since downloaded the update but I still get the same results. The file size is 5.9 MB and I believe there is some place pdfs in it. Please tell me there is something I can do to fix this file!
    Thanks,
    Joey

It's a valid InDesign CS5 file, technically there is nothing wrong with it.

If my Adobe Muse and Air apps are both up to date (as of today) and I cannot open a Muse file, what are my options? While Muse is relinking assets I get an error message regarding the Progress Window "showing" and then Muse crashes.

    Hi there,
Do you get this error while opening a particular file or all files?
Please try opening a different .muse file, and check if it does the same?
Ar you opening a .muse which is saved on a network drive?
    Thanks.

  • Ipad Dropbox app cannot open some pdf files

my Ipad Dropbox app cannot open some pdf files. The blue download bar appears and when download is complete, the wheel spins and spins and nothing happens.
Some files are password protected. until recently, the password window would open. Now it does not. The wheel just spins and spins and the file does not open.
AN email attachment (pdf) which I opened in Dropbox on my iPhone opens fine.  Files saved in Dropbox from my desktop won't open. This is true for pdf and MSWord files.
    I'm running iOS 7.1.2 (11D257)

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Should that fail, you might delete and reinstall the app.

  • I have adobe X1 and suddenly I cannot open my adobe files

Please help, I have Adobe reader x1 and suddenly I cannot open my adobe files that I had received and saved.

    pwillener,
I feel Tatiehead and I have the same problem.  If I try to open adobe reader 11 I get:  Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again.
If I try to open "AcroRd.exe from the Adobe program folder I get the same message.  If I open a .pdf file with notepad I get the same looking thing Tatiehead gets.. a bunch of gibberish.  I have uninstalled, with windows, the cleaner tool, and a program called Revo uninstaller.  I have used ccleaners registry cleaner to remove anything of Adobe Reader it could find. When I reinstall Adobe I get the same message.  I have tried these in different combinations several times to no avail.
The only fix I was able to make was to install [reference to crapware removed].  I was able to read my .PDF files fine then.  That was not what I wanted but after spending hours trying to find a fix for Adobe Reader that was what I accepted.
I believe Adobe will, at some time find the answer and I will keep looking here for something to show up but for now that is the only thing I can find for my customer.

  • I cannot open this PDF file in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a PDF file that I could open on my Windows XP 32-bit laptop in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader.  I then upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  But now in Win7-64, I cannot open this same file using the same apps (Acrobat 8 Pro & Acrobat Reader XI).
When I try to open it in Acrobat 8, it does not load and instead a popup windows appears saying -
    Adobe Updater
Some components needed to complete this operation are missing but information about them may be available on the Adobe website. Would you like to search the Adobe website for the missing components?
And I can choose either the OK or Quit buttons.  When I click OK, a web browser starts and goes to this website -
    http://www.adobe.com/special/adobe_update_manager/?type=Filter&name=FOPN_foweb&version=0.0 .0.0&lang=en_US&os=Windows&osver=6.1.7601&appid=acrobat8pro-en_US&cpu=intel
    This webpage says -
    Adobe Update Manager
Adobe cannot locate the requested plugin. New plugins will be listed on this page. Currently there are no plugins.
So now I am stuck, no direction to go.  I am left without any solution from Adobe for Acrobat on this file.
When I try to open this PDF file in Reader, it does not load and instead a web browser is spawned loading the webpage -
    http://plugin.fileopen.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1
This is the FileOpen Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat/Reader, which prompts to -
Please click OK to download the FileOpen Plug-in Installer for Adobe Acrobat/Reader
I click on OK, download and run the Installer file, accept the terms, and installed the FileOpen Client (x64) B928.  Upon completion, it prompts to Finish.  But it does not automatically bring Reader up or try to load the file.  So I try again to load the PDF file into Reader.  But once again, the file does not load and the web browser is spawned loading the same FileOpen Plug-in Installer link.  I click OK again, and start the same FileOpen Client process.  This time, it recognizes that I have FileOpen Client installed, and the window gives me two choices, Repair or Remove.  So since I apparently need this Plug-in, I choose Repair.  The process seems to complete the Repair.  But when I try to load the file, it still brings me back to the FileOpen Plug-in webpage.  So now I am stuck again, and left without any solution from Adobe for Reader on this file.
I tried Adobe support.  But apparently Adobe does not support past releases of their products (Acrobat 8), and also does not give free support for the current version of their free products (Reader XI).
    Can this be fixed?

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.

  • Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 from my new Nikon D800 camera.

That's it, I Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw from my new Nikon D800 camera. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong? I have the plug-in Camera Raw 7. and can open TIFF files but not the NEF files.
    Peace,
    Charles Fennen

    Hi ssprengel,
to explain the scenario, i am basically a D7000 user and I do post production with Windows computer. But for an assignment I have hired D800, they have provided me their SD memory card. I have used the same memory card while shooting.
I have transferred the NEF files from the camera using Nikon software. The transfer was successful but i am not able to open the Raw NEF file with ACR. Even my plugins are updated till date.
The NEF thumbnails are having small lock logo in the bottom left corner. I do not know what does that mean. Like this.
Kindly let me know what would be the prob? if my RAW files are corrupted kindly let me know how will I recover them?
    Thank you.

  • Cannot open QB 2007 file after installing R7 upgrade

I installed the Quickbooks Pro 2007 "upgrade" and then tried to open my old Quickbooks Pro 2007 for Mac company file.
1.) It asks me if I want to Upgrade the file (no choice)
2.) Then it simultaneously says "Working" and gives me a warning about the file not being able to be renamed and that I have to rename it and save it in the QB folder.
3.) Then - whatever name I give it - it says it could not create the upgraded file.
4.) It also says that it could not open the existing file.
I'm not sure what to do - the file is only 4.7MB and I've tried every combination to get it to open.
Is there some trick? Nothing about this on the Intuit Forum. Nothing on Google either.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot open my business file!

I guess what is happening is that I originally installed quickbooks and the company file on my macMini and I suspect that it is not opening it on my iMac because of a sharing violation.
I did unlock both the application and the files but they still won't open.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
