Cannot open CS4 inx in CS3

Ive have been trying unsuccesfully to save CS4 back to CS3 and nothing will open. I've even created dummy files with nothing more than a box on the page and they still don't open. CS3 will begin to open them, flash the file up and then it just dissapears.
Running CS4 6.0.0.352
Running CS3 5.04.682
Mac OS X 10.411
I've tried converting fonts to outlines also to no avail. I also installed on another machine (G5) with the same result.
Any thoughts? I really need to find a way to get this to work. Most of the work I do is VDP and none of those plug ins are working in CS4 yet. Data Merge is not working properly in 4 yet to my knowledge either. Most of my work is too large for Data Merge anyway but I would rather have it as an option at least.

10.6.8
Have a client that prepares a CS4 inx file from my CS3 doc after she makes changes. Never an issue. Can't open hers today in CS3.
Plugin error message:
"Use one or more plugins not available, blah, blah"
These are listed:
Conditional Text.IndesignPlugin
WorldReady.IndesignPlugin
Says to update my plugins in next box and lists virtually all of them.
I can create CS3 inx files and open them no problem. Tried disabled 3rd party plugins, no change,
Corrupt file from her? A recent CS4 update that might have broken it? My CS3 is current

  • Cannot open DNG files in CS3 or Lightroom?

When I convert RAW files from my new DMC-LF1 camera to DNG, I can not open the files in CS3 or Lightroom. Isn't DNG supposed to be a universal format?
I do not have problems with converted DNG files from my Nikon cameras.

I use the free Adobe DNG Converter vers. 8.1 der supporter mit Panasonic DMC-LF1. I just downloaded this version and now am able to open my Panasonic DNGs in Lightroom, but not in CS3. There are no problems opening my Nikon DNGs in both programs.
This certainly leaves the problem about DNG as a universal format lasting far out in the future, doesn't matter what camera the file came from.

As far as I know DNG is supposed to be standardised format. What are you using to convert the RAW files to DNG?

  • I cannot open CS4 on my computer, I get error message 148:3

I cannot open CS4 on my home computer I get error message 148:3. anybody know what that means?

Have you migrated to a new computer or something? 148:3 is usually an error with licensing/ activation.
Please explain your scenario more in detail. What OS are you on - Windows/ Mac? Have you upgraded your OS or switched to a new computer?

  • Can't open CS4 doc in CS3

I've followed the instructions in saving files backwards, and have saved the CS4 doc as INX format, but still can't open in CS3. What's the problem?

Bob, Thank you for being so helpful for those of us saving back CS3 files.  If you would be so kind, I have a real stumper here (at least for me).  I'm runnnig CS3 5.0.4 and a colleage has exported a CS3 Interchange .inx file for me.  I am unable to open the file and get the following error:
"Cannot open the file "B Proposal.inx".  AdobeInDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."
I have no other programs open.  I've rebooted since downloading 5.0.4 update.  Do you have any ideas?
Teh .inx file is 1.6 megs.
    Thanks very much,
    Mark B

  • OPENING CS4 FILES IN CS3

Is there any way to open up CS4 files in CS3? If not, would I be able to just cut and paste from CS4 to CS3? Thanks.

From CS4, export the file in INX format. Then you can open it in CS3 (assuming you have the most recent update of CS3). Of course, you lose anything you've created using CS4 features, so examine it carefully.

  • Opening CS4 file in CS3

I haven't been able to open a Premiere Pro CS4 file (.prproj) in Premiere Pro CS3. I get the message "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements."  And CS4 will not save as a CS3 file (.prproj).  Why, you ask, would I want to bring an edited CS4 file into CS3???  Because the FLVs produced by CS4 are "soft" (blurred) compared to FLV files produced in CS3 and I don't want to have to re-edit the production.  Does anyone know if it's possible to get an edited file from CS4 into CS3?  Thanks!

Backward compatibility is seldom possible, if ever. Closest that I have come is Encore CS3 Projects do Open in EncoreDVD 2.0, with few issues, but that is the ONLY instance that I have seen.
Now, one could Export from CS4 and then Import the resulting file in CS3 for the FLV Export. Maybe the Lagarith Lossless CODEC would help here?
Another way might be to take the CS4 Project into AE and then take that into CS3. Have not tried this, so there could be a few pit-falls and workarounds.
Sorry, but compatibility is usually one way - up and never down.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Cannot open iphone image in cs3 (png)

I have a few images and they are from an iphone and in the .png format. I tried to open them in my cs3 photoshop but an error comes up (which is ridiculous by the way) - cannot parse the file..
    Anyone with a solution?
thanks (I did search by the way)

Since you are running CS3, it is not inconceivable that you may be running NAV (Norton Anti Virus) in an older OS.  NAV can cause that error and generate precisely that error message if you have NAV activated.
    Just a thought.

  • Cannot open DNG files in CS3

I transferred files from my camera a Panasonic G3 to Lightroom 4 converting them to DNGs and then made a quick selection of those I wanted to process further in CS3. When I try to open any DNG in CS3 it tells me it cannot because " it is not the right kind of document" I have no trouble opening JPGs in the same collection. How can I get the DNGs to open?

Check your metadata stuff. You are probably retaining GPS data or otehr stuff that back then didn't exist. also verify, that your DNGs use the right DNG version.

  • Cannot open raw files in CS3

I went through the steps of downlaoding the plugin and replacing it, but I still cannot open the files. Any other suggestions? I am trying to open a Canon CR2 file.

If your Cannon is a recent model you will need to download ACR 8.7 with the DNG converter and create DNG files for your Cannon CR2 Raw file for CS3 can only use ACR version 4.6.   ACR support for Cannon cameras

  • CS4 cannot open CS4 file - upgrade plugins

I HAVE searched the forum, but cannot find a real answer to this...
I've been given an .indd file. It was created in CS4. I am attempting to open it with CS4.
I get that message "Cannot open "name.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign"
I have the latest upgrade of CS4, as does the author of the document. I see the plugins in the Plug-Ins folder.
What do I need to do to be able to open this file? (Actually there are about 20 of these "unopenable" documents)
    Thanks!
(I am new to InDesign. My company uses Quark.)

    OK. It's posted at:

  • Uninstalling Photoshop CS4 from a Mac with Yosemite, which cannot open CS4.

I have Photoshop CS4 installed on a Mac.  I recently upgraded to Yosemite and now am not able to open it.  The Java OS that is recommended to solve the problem refuses to download.  Thus I would like uninstall Photoshop CS4 but cannot do so.  Please help from your end.  It is my MacBook Pro 13".  I DO NOT want to uninstall it from my MacBook Pro 17".  Only from my 13"  Can you help me?

Ok. That should be fine. There is a CS/CC Cleaner tool as well.  It removes installation records according to the description.

  • Cannot open CS4 Encore file

How do I open an Encore file that Encore fails to recognize? File is there.  Also, cannot send a Premier Pro project to Encore via Dynamic Link.

Can you open Encore and create a new project (not dynamic link)?
When I try to open an Encore file, I get a message saying that the
folder does not exist.  The folder does exist.
This is usually because the relationship between the Encore project file and its folder have changed - either moved or renamed.
If I try to send a project from PP to Encore via DL, I get the same error message.
But that is odd, and  points to permissions issues. If you want to use dynamic link, run Encore as administrator, and dynamic link from Encore.

  • Cannot open CS4 file in Premier Pro CS5

I have a composition I made in Premiere Pro CS4 last week. CS5 arrived yesterday and I have just started trying to use. My version has been updated to 5.0.2 seemingly without issue by the Adobe Updater. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit Premium Edition. My CS5 Premiere Pro install is 64 bit.
When I try to open the project I get the following message:
This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
How can I open my CS4 composition in CS5 - am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks, and any help appreciated
    Tom

Bill and Will, thanks very much for both your answers.
For some reason Premiere Pro CS5 does seem to think it's a trial - it shouldn't - I'm using the Creative Suite 5 Production Premium student version and I have entered the serial number that the academic verification team have given me - this should be the real thing.
I know PremPro CS5 thinks it's the trial as when I created a new PremPro CS5 project it told me that it needed to install codecs not available with the trial. Is this because I updated to 5.0.2 before I opened PremPro CS5? I'm not sure, but I hope this same problem doesn't effect other Production Premium products (do any of the others have fewer features when installed in 'trial' mode?
The upshot is that after trying to create a new project, being prompted to install the missing codecs and allowing this to happen I seem to be up and running, so thanks very much!

  • 10.6.6 update cannot open CS4 Photoshop

After installation of 10.6.6 my photoshop CS4 doesn't work. It opens into and flashes the screen and quits. I threw away CS4 and reinstalled it, still the same issue. Can anyone help pls?

    Hi,
I had sort of the same problem a couple days ago.
Leave the Photoshop folder alone and then run the Photoshop installer again; this worked for me.
    Let us know.
    Hope it works.

  • Opening CS4 in CS3

Jesus! From one version to the next, you are gonna tell me Adobe couldn't think up a way to still open CS4 docus in CS3?? I know about the INX extension and "saving down." But what if the document you have was saved by another person and this person isn't available so you can ask for another version of the document?
Illustrator opens legacy AND new versions as well no matter what format you saved it in, Photoshop does it, Flash does, Dreamweaver does it....why does InDesign have to be the only special one?
I'd bet assure that Adobe didn't think of a fix in the so revered CS5.....
I'm sure installing the plug-ins might help, but don't know if these are free and even if they are, you have to install a gazillion of them just to open a damn file.
    End of rant.

Photoshop's Save as Photoshop PDF command saves a file with a PDF extension, which by default opens in Preview or Acrobat, not Photoshop. Changing one letter in the extension causes the file to still behave as a PDF when placed in InDesign, but it opens in Photoshop by default. Adobe has be ability to make Photoshop, so they have the ability to change that letter. They haven't.
Illustrator is such an amateurish product in so many ways, and so many features have been sloppily introduced and never improved. Graphing is a good example, but there are many others. New features are introduced and promoted not to make the lives of users easier but to add bullet points to the feature list in order to justify upgrades. But once the feature is half-assedly added, it's development is abandoned in order to produce more new features. I think Adobe just doesn't want to have a list of “new” features that are actually just fixes to the crappy old features we already know about. Besides, despite the crappiness of said features, we still but the damned thing. Why fix what, as are as the accountants are concerned, isn’t broke?
But back to the discussion at hand. I side with Bob on this one. InDesign is probably the best developed and supported Adobe product in my quiver. I don’t want the developers to be limited in how new features are added and how those features are integrated into the file format just so I don’t have to chase down my clients’ suppliers to get .INX or .IDML files or to save them the trouble when they need my files downsaved. I work in my version of InDesign (currently 6) and dealing with older versions is someone else’s problem.
