CANNOT OPEN DNG IN CS4

I have converted some RAW photos using the Adobe DNG converter. But Photoshop CS4 will not open them. Can anyone advise please? Thank you.

Which version of the dng converter did you use?
What settings did you use in the dng converter?
Which camera did the files come from?
Which operating system are you using?

Cannot open DNG files in CS3 or Lightroom?

When I convert RAW files from my new DMC-LF1 camera to DNG, I can not open the files in CS3 or Lightroom. Isn't DNG supposed to be a universal format?
I do not have problems with converted DNG files from my Nikon cameras.

I use the free Adobe DNG Converter vers. 8.1 der supporter mit Panasonic DMC-LF1. I just downloaded this version and now am able to open my Panasonic DNGs in Lightroom, but not in CS3. There are no problems opening my Nikon DNGs in both programs.
This certainly leaves the problem about DNG as a universal format lasting far out in the future, doesn't matter what camera the file came from.

As far as I know DNG is supposed to be standardised format. What are you using to convert the RAW files to DNG?

Cannot open dng files using Photoshop CS4 after formatting my computer.

I had Photoshop CS4 installed at my desktop and because I couldn't open my raw files taken with my Sony A99 I downloaded DNG Data Converter.After that I was able to open my dng files using Photoshop CS4.After some months I formatted my computer and I reinstalled Photoshop CS4.Now I cannot open my older dng files and I get an error message.Also I cannot update my initial version of Photoshop from version 11.0.

Mac or Win?
Did you update Photoshop after reinstalling it?

Cannot open DNG files via Bridge or Lightroom in Photoshop?

I have a problem that has popped up since I installed the 5.6 RAW upgrade to my CS4/Lightroom 2.2 package. Hopefully someone would be kind enough to help me diagnose it, as it affects only about 85,000 raw files currently in my Lightroom Catalogue.
The files were originally shot using a Canon professional camera in their proprietary RAW format, CR2. This conversion occurred upon input into Lightroom while at the same time the original CR2 files discarded (as I am not the son of a Hard Drive Manufacture!). After the installation of the recent DNG/RAW converter upgrade I first noticed that the dng files would not display in Bridge even if I rebuild the cache, however, if I downloaded a Canon CR2 file they displayed without a problem. This condition Bridge; Lightroom continued to display both types of RAW files correctly, however the dng file now had a small triangle with an explanation symbol inside it on the top right of the thumbnail preview indicating that “Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo, while there was no associated problem with the canon CR2 file. The message 'You will not be able to make adjustments to this photo” was associated with the triangle icon. Quite discerning, considering this has occurred to all 18,000 previously imported and rendered dng previews.
I then tried to import the files into Camera RAW using the ‘right-click technique’ in Bridge on the dng file symbols representing the thumbnails that would be there if I did not have this problem. When I right clicked and selected ‘Open in Camera Raw’ there is no response what so ever. If I drag the dng symbol to the Photoshop desktop it results in the following error message “Could not complete your request because of a program error.” Either way there is no getting the dng file into Photoshop.
I have attempted the following fixes:
1. Clean reinstall of CS4 (saving preferences)
2. Clean update of Camera RAW 5.5
Does anyone out there have any solutions, recommendations, work-around or suggestions for this situation? Is it a problem with a conversion of the metadata? The file structure itself? Can it be fixed? At this juncture I am out of Tums’s, that nasty tasting pink stuff in the bathroom and am headed for the pharmacy for something stronger.
I would appreciate any help at all.

I know it does help find a solution, but I have run across some older DNG's that will open in LR 2 but will not open in Bridge/CSR 4. (These are DNG's created by Scott Kelby for his LR 2 book - I have attached on to this post.) I can open them first in LR and then tell LR to edit the image in Photoshop and it will open. I have not yet had the issue of LR not being able to open the DNG correctly. However, I may not have done a DNG conversion since I installed the 5.6 upgrade. When I get a chance I will go convert some CR2 files and see what happens.

I have uploaded one of Kelby's dng's that will not open in my desktop nor laptop Bridge/CSR 4 w/all updates. DNG 5.6 is unable to process them as well. It will import into LR. Other than that I cannot cause DNG's not to load into Bridge/CSR.
Opps the file is too big. You can download it from here. Kelby's Technical Copy Editor told me she did not have the same problem. Weird. I hope you solve your problem.

i get the following error when i use the "OPEN" dialog in CS6 and in the folder that is opened are DNG files.

I'm trying to write a script which opens .dng files and then after a few changes, saves them as .jpeg.
I'm working with CS2.
I've tried using open with "RawFormatOpenOptions". If I do not initialize the fields inside this struct, it says it misses some values, and If I choose the values manually (I've selected the same values as the ones that appear when I open the image manually) It gives me an error which says "cannot open the file because the open options are incorrect".
How can I open these .dng files? I do not know which parameters I need to fill in the options so that I'll be able to open the files.

Problem solved. I had to delete the preferences file (resetting preferences by pressing the required keys when launching Bridge did not solve the problem).
I am glad I learned that trick by visiting this forum!

I transferred files from my camera a Panasonic G3 to Lightroom 4 converting them to DNGs and then made a quick selection of those I wanted to process further in CS3. When I try to open any DNG in CS3 it tells me it cannot because " it is not the right kind of document" I have no trouble opening JPGs in the same collection. How can I get the DNGs to open?

Check your metadata stuff. You are probably retaining GPS data or otehr stuff that back then didn't exist. also verify, that your DNGs use the right DNG version.

Cannot open DNG files in Camera Raw hosted by Bridge?

I used Adobe DNG converter on a batch of NEF files (D300). The conversion was successful and the .dng files show up in Bridge with the right preview. However, when I double-click on any of these files, it launches Photoshop and opens the file in CR hosted by Photoshop. This in spite of having my preferences set to "Double Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge" in the Bridge preferences. Furthermore, a right-click (or control-click) on the file's thumbnail shows the Open With... item only has "Open with Adobe Photoshop CS3 (default)", and not the option to "Open with Camera Raw" that other RAW files have. Interestingly, if I do some editing in ACR, and click on "Done", then, right-click on the thumbnail, the missing options in the Open menu in Bridge re-appear!
I don't think this was happening before. Is this the expected behavior, or am I missing something?

PS cannot open DNG gerated by Nokia Lumia 1020 aft...

Hi there!
After Black update DNG option appeared in the cam settings. It makes a file with .dng extension, but none of the PS softwares knew it. The error message was: "Could not complete your request it is not the right kind of document."
Does anyone has the same problem. I guess the phone does not generates the file properly, therefore PS cannot identify it.
I have tried several PS softwares on different operating systems (XP, Win7, Win8), the result is the same.
Anyone could help me with this issue?

A little more information for all of you who may not know the details...
Incidentally, you will import to PS through Bridge...according to Adobe's specific application requirements, "Photoshop CS to Photoshop CC, Photoshop Elements 3 to Photoshop Elements 12, and all versions of Lightroom."

Error 148:3 - cannot open Design Premium CS4 applications.

It's been awhile since I opened any of my CS4 programs, but now it's telling me "The licensing for the product has stopped working. Please restart your computer and if the problem continues, please contact Adobe Support" Error 148:3. How can I fix this?

Reason why I cannot open dng in cs6?

Hello,
I am using CS6 extended ver 13, Mac 10.8.4. A family member asked me to edit some wedding pics taken by a friend. He sent me 81 files, which had all been converted to .dng. Twenty-three files that were all over 30mb will not open in CS6, I get a message that says: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file".
All other files will open just fine. I can see all metadata in Bridge, and it does say that the files type is dng. The camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T1i. I don't know anything about what version of dng converter was used, as they came to me already converted. I suspect I need to go back to this person and ask for the raw files, but thought I would ask here first. I searched the forums and googled quite a bit without an answer.
I included a couple of screen shots of pertinent metadata from Bridge. Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!

Thanks, I also suspect the images are corrupted, although it is weird that the bulk are under 20mb and those are fine. Stranger things have happened. I'm trying to get ahold of the raw so I can convert them to .dng myself, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some obvious fix that I was missing.

Cannot open any inDesign CS4 files, "import failed"

Suddenly inDesign CS4 will no longer open anything. When I attempt to open inDesign files it says "import failed". I have trashed my preferences and tried checking "show import options" to no avail. I can create a new document but not open documents. I am on a 2007 iMac running Lion. Any ideas?

Cannot Open File error CS4 upgrade plug-ins

My business partner has been working on an indesign file and when I try to open it on my system running CS4 i get the following error message.
"upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions or upgrade to the latest version"
Am I missing something here? Excuse my ignorance : He's working in CS4 as well version 6.

Can't open DNG files created with Mac CS5 downloader in Mac CS4 Photoshop

I recently installed CS5 on my mac but I kept CS4 installed as well. I notice that I cannot open DNG files created with CS5 in Photoshop CS4. Bridge CS4 shows the files only as icons - no image thumbnails. I am able to open these same files on a Windows version of CS4. Is there some plugin for my mac CS4 that will enable me to access the DNG files created with CS5? Is there a way to use my CS5 downloader when converting my raw files from my camera to DNG files that will make them compatiple with PS and Bridge CS4?

Well, yes...but you'll need to modify your DNG Converter prefs to allow for that. You''ll need a recent (ideally current DNG Converter 6.4.1 or above) and click on the DNG Converter preferences and select the correct DNG Converter options. Check DNG Converter 6.4.1 (the current version) and click on "Change Preferences" to be sure select Camera Raw 5.4 and later then make sure CS4 is updated to ACR 5.7 (which is the last version of ACR for CS4) However, the changes made to ACR 6.x really should be adopted since IQ for ACR 6.4.x is a lot better...

You should be aware that the newest version, CC, is only available as a subscription.
CS6 can be purchased at Adobe, or second hand, see below.
Older versions such as CS5 can only be bought second hand, with a licence transfer through Adobe, requiring that the licence has not been used as a basis for an upgrade.
