Cannot open ebooks in Overdrive
I recently downloaded an ebook into Overdrive. I cannot open it, or any other title, all titles have "invalid" under the title. I have updated Overdrive, reset my Adobe password, de-authorized and re-authorized to no avail. Any ideas? I just want to read a book!
I suggest uninstalling the Overdrive Media Console app and reinstalling it if you haven't done so already. That has worked for me in the past when I've had to help others. The other option is to go to the your library website using your browser (NOT the OMC app) and log into their ebook portal page. Once in your account you should see 2 buttons by each book title that allows you to either download or read in the browser. Choose the read in the browser option (DON'T download this way). It is immediate and generally works pretty effectively. It isn't so much a workaround as a new feature launched this year by Overdrive. I know some people who never download the traditional way anymore. It's quick and you don't have to deal with the quirks of ADE. This feature is avaiable on most, but not all, Overdrive library ebooks. Good luck, Glenna

Unable to download Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY. Cannot open ebooks on my Adobe DE. How do I fix this?
I had the exact same problem & this worked for me. All I needed was the first step. Good luck!!!! (copied from another thread):
"Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help, and indeed installation can even trigger this state.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
Another is "E_AUTH_NOT_READY"
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0 -
Adobe Reader Cannot Open Ebook
Suddenly adobe reader cannot open my pdf ebook due to the
error message that says it is either not a supported file type or
because te file has been damaged? How do I fix it? If until now
hundreds of customers downloaded the ebook and had no problem
opening it?Alan...thank you so very much for your instant reply. I did
locate a backup copy of pdf file that isn't damaged. Now if you
don't mind (technical I'm not) I delete the old pdf file first
right? Now what? Please give me steps 1 to ? as to what to do next?
I can copy backup pdf but how do I get it into line-up of files on
far right panel in DW8? I have been editing site using ftp so that
changes are done on site immediately. Can I insert this new pdf
file into the list of files showing while in the ftp mode? Then it
is instant and for certain that the new pdf file works? "Generate
the pdf file again?" Sounds easy but please break down generate.
Thanks for your patience. -
Cannot open ebook...
I've downloaded an ebook for Adobe Digital Editions, which is fine as it works on the computer where I downloaded it. But it has become apparent that the ebook will open up only on my original computer and no others, even after I authorise them for ADE. It seems that the book was not embedded properly with my digital signature for ADE when the book was downloaded. After lengthy discussions with Adobe Support, the most significant thing they've accomplished is to fix up my original computer by remote access so that the book won't open there either. So now I cannot read the book at all. Adobe support says there is nothing they can do for me, and I also cannot get help from the vendor of the book as the publisher stopped distributing the book soon after I bought it. This is the only ebook I have ever purchased and my account with ADE was created at the same time, so technically there should be no problems.
After searching forums, I can see that problems with ADE are common, and that support from Adobe is extremely poor. I doubt that I will ever touch another ADE ebook again. Other than buying an ADRM remover is there anything I can do to solve the problem?Try deleting the book via the Edit button at the top right of the bookshelf and then redownload it via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app.
If it re-downloads with the same problem then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption -
Updated ipad to i0s7 and cannot open ebook
Just updated to i0s7 and now the ebook I'm reading won't open. How do I continue reading it?
What app do you use as your ereader? I am currently using Stanza which is defunct and it works excellent with no issues. You might want to try another app. Marvin (new with good reviews), Shubooks, iBooks, etc. are all good ereaders.

i bought an eBook from iTunes. I can view/read it perfectly on my iPhone but when I try to open the eBook file on my iPad, I get the error message, "Cannot open book. This book is protected by an incompatible technology." Any ideas for me? thx
Welcome to the Apple Community.
I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry. -

PC Reinstalled - now I cannot open my purchased eBooks
Hi,
I had reinstalled my PC recently but now I cannot open any of my eBooks. I get DRM errors saying that the purchase has already been fulfilled. I cannot even get support on Digital Editions because the offical Adobe support site does not list Digital Editions in the dropdown listbox among the other products.
Can someone from Adobe please help me get this sorted out as it is keeping me from getting my work done. This is HIGHLY frustrating.
Please help me get the sorted out ASAP.

Mac Word 2008 - hyperlink message "Word cannot open the specified file"
I'm using WordMac 2008 version 12.2.5 and after following detailed instructions on how to hyperlink chapters in a Table of Contents to their respective chapters in a book, I can only get the message "Word cannot open the specified file".
Any ideas what could be wrong?
My OSX is 10.5.1.
The instructions I followed are pasted below and are copied from the Smashwords Style Guide: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52
START OF PASTE FROM SMASHWORDS STYLE GUIDE:
How to create a linked Table of Contents. Consider this feature in “beta.” My
thanks to Smashwords author Cheryl Anne Gardner for sharing these tips below,
which I have augmented based on my own experience adding a ToC to the Style
Guide (woo hoo!).
By adding a linked table of contents, you can help readers navigate your
document. This is especially useful for non-fiction. Most fiction doesn’t
need it. If you follow the instructions below, the ToC should work in your
EPUB, MOBI and PDF files, but it will not work in our other formats.
First, create your table of contents where you want it by typing it out. Make
sure the text is normalized just like the rest of your Smashwords’ Word
document. Example:
Contents
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Etc.
Next, we are going to create the BookMarks. In Word 2000, 2003 and 2007, the
Booksmark function is under the Insert tab. Go through your document, and at
each Chapter Start or Indexed item, you will highlight it and then select
Insert: bookmark. Name your bookmark corresponding to the Chapter/Indexed
item and then click add. It’s very important to use the first word of your
heading you’re linking to, because later on, when you add the hyperlinks,
Word displays the bookmark shortcuts in alphabetical order. With many
bookmarks, I found many of my bookmarks weren’t labeled properly, so it was
tough to link to the correct bookmark. If you want to link to a chapter named
How to Publish Ebooks, I’d recommend naming your bookmark
“HowToPublishEbooks” to make it easy to locate. If you instead name it,
“publishebooks,” you’ll frazzle your brain and make mistakes.
Repeat the process above for every Chapter Start as well as for other matter
in the book like index, bibliography, epilogue, prologue, etc. I didn’t link
to every section in the Style Guide, because otherwise the ToC would have
been three pages long. This is your call.
Next, return to your table of contents and highlight the word “Contents.”
Click insert, bookmark, and label this last bookmark “Contents”. Formatting
note: Bookmarks cannot have spaces or odd characters. If instead of
“Contents” you called the label in the document Table of Contents, as I did,
then when you insert the bookmark, name the bookmark “TableofContents,” one
word, or “toc.”
Next, add the hyperlinks to your Chapter Starts. In your table of contents,
if Chapter 1 is called Chapter 1, then highlight Chapter 1 and then click
insert Hyperlink. As you can see in the Style Guide, I tried to use more
descriptive labels. In Word’s Hyperlink menu on the left hand side, select
“Place in this document.” You will now see your bookmarks listed in the main
window. Select Chapter1 bookmark (or whatever you labeled it) and then click
ok. Do this procedure for every chapter and piece of matter in the table of
contents.
Final step. Now you can link back to the Table of contents. Move through your
document to each indexed item or Chapter start and highlight it. Then click
insert, hyperlink, and then select “Place in this document.” When the
bookmarks are showing in the main window, select the bookmark labeled
“Contents,” assuming that’s what you named your Table of Contents. Do this
for each and every chapter and or indexed item.
After you are done, all your links will be underlined. You will need to test
and make sure you linked everything properly. In most Word versions, you just
click on the hyperlink to test. In Word 2007, you may need to Ctrl-Click each
hyperlink and make sure it takes you where you need to go in the document.
Advice: Word has an automatic ToC generation feature under the reference tab.
Do not use this. It uses automated headings and formatting to generate the
ToC and this will un-normalize your text and cause font conversion issues in
your Smashwords files.
END OF PASTE FROM SMASHWORDS STYLE GUIDE.
I did all that as described but I still get the message "Word cannot open the specified file".
Could you help please? This question would be better addressed to...
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx
I think the operative phrase from that article is...
*Consider this feature in “beta.”*

Cannot open .acsm files in Digital Editions 1.7.1.1085
i have downloaded an ebook in .acsm file but cannot open it in the latest version of Digital Editions.
.acsm files are correctly associated with Digital Editions on my system (i'm running Visa)
when i try to add items to the library, the only allowed extensions are .pdf and .epub.
hope someone can helpThank you for your answer, but I forgot to say that yesterday I also tried to download a file from your free library. Actually, I needed to be sure the problem didn't come
from my pc or from the ebookstore I bought the epub files from, anyway, when trying to open files I got the same window with the same message. I don't think
files on your library are expired ones too.
I selected France as region and French as language, but I live in a french territory in the South Pacific, may this fact be a problem for reading epub files?
Is there any legal way to convert these urlinkascm files into pdf ones?
Thanks -
I downloaded the Adobe Digital Reader and three books I purchased and my Toshiba Thrive cannot open the files. What do I do next?
Hey jlcreads2,
Are the three ebooks that you have purchased in PDF format ? If not, then Adobe Reader will not be able to open them. If those are PDF files, then Adobe Reader should definitely open them and we would like to help you make it work. Let us know. -
Digital editions - safari cannot open
When I try to install adobe digital editions on ipad2 - it says safari cannot open this file.
This would be correct as Adobe Digital Editions only works on Mac OS or Windows. Please see View e-books | iOS, Android devices - http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/view-e-books-ios-android.html for information on how to view your eBooks on iOS devices.

Can not open ebook with authorized computer??
Hello,
i have authorized my new computer and it worked well. Now i copied the ebooks but cannot open them. It says: The Element is authorized for a "anbieter-ID" provider ID!?
See ImageDid you authorize the new computer with the same ID that you used when you originally bought the books?
Also, sometimes ADE gets authorization confused. This can be fixed by
ctrl-shift-D to ADE to remove any possibly confused authorization (cmd-shift-D on Mac)
restart ADE
authorize again -
Adobe Reader cannot open URLLink.acsm because not a supported file type or is damaged
tried to download ebook, kept getting message Adobe Reader cannot open URLLink.acsm because not a supported file type or is damaged. Have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions, have an Adobe ID. What is the problem?
1. I assume you have some PDF documents you have been keeping a long time. Look at their modification date. Is it what you'd expect (years ago) or is it all the same, recent?
2. Has a TXT file appeared in the same folder as the PDFs?
