Cannot open email attachments that are .msg files from a PDF portfolio

I have been creating
PDF portifolios comprised of emails and their attachments. When I open .xls, .doc, .txt, .html attached messages they open fine. when I try to open an attached .msg file, I get an error message that the file cannot be read or that it it damaged. please advise what I need to do to be able to open these files

John, thanks for the suggestion. The messasge was created by outlook and is an email message. I brought it back into outlook and still cannot open it. I think it is more of an issue of the file not being converted properly by acrobat, but I can;t tell for sure.

TextEdit (in the Applications Folder) is capable of reading .doc files.
For the future you might consider using NeoOffice for reading and editing .doc and .xls files.

You need an app that you can use the Open In function and save the file into that is compatible with Word files like Pages, Smart Office and now Mocrosoft has a Word App for the iPad. It is a read only version unless you subscribe to. Office 365, as far as I know anyway, but it is free and you can save the file to the app.
Search the App Store for other alternatives.

yes, you are right. it is the adobe reader via exportPDF. but it should be the acrobat. it was written on the internetpage...

Cannot save e-mail attachments that are "unsupported file type"

I regularly get messages with special files for use in the field. These are special data files we use to program specific systems such as fire alarm, security, health care, life-safety... When I receive them on my Droid Razr, they show up in the message as an "Unsupported file type". I do not understand why I cannot save the attachment to the phone's internal memory or SD card for access when I connect my computer. The file extensions we use are specific to the system on which we are working. Why can I not save this attachment? I tried renaming the attachment to ".zip" but I get the same message on my phone when I receive it.

I have used an application called "Download All Files" from the Play Store (formerly Android Market) to allow me to download any kind of attachment in emails. Give that a try and see if it works for you.

I suddenly cannot open .jpg, .jpeg or .pdf attachments in my email. This problem is happening both on my iPad and my iPhone4.

If you go into Options | Advanced Options | Applications is the Attachment Service listed? If not when you reloaded the software you have to make sure that the Attachment Service is checked to be installed with the rest of the software

I am able to send and receive emails with UN-password protected documents, but ones that have are protected or have protected fields within the document I cannot send or receive. Additionally, I do not get any notification that the email was not accepted; BIG problem!

I cannot open email attachments.

When I try to open attachments I get an error message, for example-
unable to unarchive "pics from 2nd platoon.zip" into desktop
Error 1 operation not permitted
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

None of the above! They probably just don't know what the problem is either. I'm not sure either to be honest.
But, there are a couple of things you can try.
- Change the Mail Downloads folder to somewhere different via the Mail Preferences -> General section
- Download [StuffIt Expander|http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/stuffitexpander/index.html] to see if this has any more success opening the files. (Drag and drop the attachments onto your Desktop before trying to open them in StuffIt Expander)

Thanks for the suggestion but do you mean deleting the outlook exchange email account - I would'nt want to have to do that as its the CEO with 20 years email history. Also I dont want to mess about with his email account as it works perfectly on his desktop/laptop and he can open attachments on the iphone while in the office on our Wifi.

Opening email attachments in Word

Hi
I want to buy the Curve 8520. I am new to blackberries, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Will i be able to open email attachments that are word docs? Or will i need to buy a software product to facilitate this?
I just bought another phone and was told in the shop it would open Word docs - which it doesn't!
With the blackberry, i don't want to sign up to a contract to then find i can't open Word Docs

I cannot say 100% what happens at this moment and with every carrier/reseller, but normally BB's come pre-installed with the Standard Edition of Desktop-To-Go, which includes an app to render Word docs. Check with your seller and see if that app is included.

Attachments that show as a bold downward pointing arrow in a gray rectangle in a dotted box have not yet been downloaded to your phone (usually because they are large). Tapping such an icon should download the attachment if you are connected to the internet and your mail server is reachable. Once downloaded, they should appear as normal (which would depend on the attachment type).
This is the "Using iPhone" forum, so I said phone, but the same applies on an iPad.

I can open my e-mail attachments if I'm in Internet Explorer but I cannot open email attachments if I'm using Firefox. Why?

I've been on here for hours trying to figure out where the directions are for this - there's never an answer but finally found it. Go to Tools, Options, Applications and then Help. That's where the instructions are for Firefox File Handling - it helped me alot, although I still like the way IE opens attachments better. I am getting so I really like Firefox though, especially how incredibly fast it is. :)
