Cannot open Firefox
When I click on the Firefox icon on my laptop...I get a message that says I need to "close firefox before opening up a new window". The problem is, I'm not in Firefox and I have done all the troubleshooting I can think of and I still get the error message. HELP!
I tried closing the process out in the Task Manager, but firefox.exe isn't even listed as running. :(
Right click a blank part of the Windows Taskbar at the foot of your desktop and choose '''Task Manager'''.
Then click the tab called '''Processes''' and then find '''firefox.exe''' in the list. You can sort the list alphabetically if you like by clicking the header called "Image Name".
Next, right click it and choose '''End Process'''. Confirm when you see the warning notice.
You should be able to restart it afterwards.

Received an update yesterday that turned off Norton before installing itself. Now cannot open Firefox. Get error message.
This issue can happen if the updater wasn't able to update all the files.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
* Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
It happened a few weeks a go, I have re-installed the Firefox but still didn't work. I can only open Internet Explorer. I cannot open Firefox and Google Chrome at all!. I am using windows 7.
Please help, I want my Firefox back...The crash is reporting a problem with the McAfee Site Advisor (mcffplg.dll), try uninstalling the McAfee Site Advisor and see if you can then start Firefox.

I insatalled internet explorer 9 now I cannot open firefox. Before I would switch between both using explorer as the default
and saying no to firefox then firefox would open. Now I cannot open firefox at allAlso do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Cannot open firefox - or reinstall it - after today's update
After updating Firefox today to the newest version, when opening Firefox, I now get this error message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them...I cannot open firefox. I downloaded it again, and when try to RUN, I get the exact same message. Please advise.
I uninstalled FF through control panel, deleted app files and exe. Then downloaded and installed latest FF from Mozilla. Works great now!

Cannot open firefox in more than one window
I cannot open Firefox in more than one window. I deleted and reinstalled the latest version but this did not help. I was able to open Firefox in multiple windows prior to installing an update of Avast. Don't think it should have an effect on Firefox.
Downloaded Seamonkey and have no problem with multiple windows.Anyone?

July 18,2011 AOL toolbar update install. I cannot open Firefox to uninstall the update or the toolbar because everytime I open Firefox it freezes and jams up. I have to shut down my computer as it will not even respond to force quit command. I cannot read my mail (aol) or access my bookmarks all for work.

You should be able to uninstall that AOL toolbar extension while running in the Firefox SafeMode. -
I suddenly cannot open Firefox
I turned on my windows vista computer and it would not start properly so it resolved the problems, then started up.
Since then i cannot open Firefox, i click on the icon and nothing opens. I have tried shutting down/restarting but still i does not work.There is a problem fairly soon in the process if profile manager will not start.
You could try in Firefox's [[safe-mode]] next you could try in Windows safemode by using the F8 key.
From what you say I am wondering if you have done a Windows restore of some form and recreated Firefox that way. Firefox does not always restore properly from Windows. You may be looking at re-installing Firefox.
If you consider re-installing do NOT take any options from Windows or Firefox that offers to delete personal settings because that will destroy things like passwords and bookmarks. -
Cannot open firefox on email (AT&T yahoo) icon since updating to v8
Ever since I updated to the new version of Firefox I cannot open Firefox when I click my AT&T yahoo icon. I get an orange screen and it says Mozilla Firefox in the upper left corner. If I click in the left corner it says "not responding." This also happens when I click on the Firefox icon. The only way I have been able to get into Firefox is to right click on the Firefox icon and select "open outside BufferZone." BufferZone is a security program Kim Komando recommended. I did not have this problem until I updated. What can I do to fix this?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

I cannot open Firefox at all... receive "Profile Missing" -- what next?
MAC desktop being used. When I click on my Firefox app it looks and looks then brings up a window: Profile Missing.
Obviously, I cannot do much without opening Firefox.
What do I do next?Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
