Cannot open htm files in Firefox

Running Firefox 16.0.1 under Win7. I am not sure when this problem started. In earlier versions of Firefox, this was not an issue.
I can open saved htm files in IE, but not in Firefox.
Any help would be appreciated.

When I enter about:preferences#applications <Enter> in the address bar, then for PDF it shows:
pdf File (application/x-download) ... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
pdf File (application/x-pdf) .... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
Portable Document Format (PDF) ... Save File'''
I would like all PDF's to open in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
Right now none of the PDF's open at all, so opening in Firefox or any other viewer would be preferred over not showing up at all.

  • Cannot open pdf files with Firefox's built-in pdf viewer

This just started (I think) with Firefox 37.01. This is on Win7-X64. I cannot open pdf files with the Firefox built-in pdf viewer. If I click on the file or try to open it from within Firefox, it brings up a "opening filename.pdf" message. If I select the "Open with" radio button as 'Firefox (default),' it just keeps looping on this process; it never opens. In Tools => Options => Applications, Portable Document Format (PDF) is indicated as 'Preview in Firefox.' I've never had any other PDF viewer installed on this computer. I've tried disabling all plug-ins and extensions, but it still doesn't work. I searched for solutions but haven't found any for this specific issue.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
Have you tried, to start Firefox in safemode you can do so by following these steps
'''If Firefox is open,''' you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
'''If Firefox is not running,''' you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • Cannot open pdf file with Firefox 11.0

Firefox automatically upgrades the version I am using. Since it was recently upgraded I cannot open pdf files. Am faced with a blank page. I went through some of the suggestions on these pages and when I opened the Tools window, there is a warning:
Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X is incompatible with Firefox 11!
Is there a way around it? Or is it time to say goodbye to Firefox and move to Safari?

    When Firefox updates, it turns
    off add-ons that are not

  • Cannot open html file in Firefox. Need help

I can open any html file in my G5 without any trouble. Now that I am setting up my new i7, while I can open the html files using Safari, the html files will not open using Firefox. I have tried "Open With....", but it will not open. My default browser presently is Firefox which is what I want for now. I was given a script that can be inserted through the terminal, but I don't know if it would work. I would rather see is anyone has had this experience and how they solved it.
I have reinstalled Firefox with no success with the html files.
    Thanks

Out of curiosity, I used the latest Firefox 3.6 to open a webarchive file. The Firefox "Open File" requestor allows you to tell it to use Firefox to open the file, but it doesn't open it. Doesn't give any error. When I go through Finder, and double-click the file, it opens in Safari. When I use "Open with" in Finder itself to tell it to use Firefox, Firefox is greyed out as an application.
Interesting. Sorry couldn't solve for you. But it may point to a shortcoming in Firefox.

  • Cannot open downloaded files from Firefox or IE, but can in Google Chrome?

When I download files in Firefox and IE, it either fails to complete downloading them stating that they have some sort of virus, or they show complete but none of them actually save. When I try to open the link in the downloads window, they do nothing, and right clicking shows "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" are greyed out. I do not have any of these problems with Google Chrome, and I would rather use Mozilla. I have tried many basic fixes I have found and nothing seems to work.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

  • I use a Mac and cannot open pdf files in Firefox.

Cannot open pdf, either from websites or attachments to emails. Each time that I try I get this menu of "what to open with" and none of them work.. No problems with Safari.

Found a solution on the Apple community forum. Make sure Adobe isn't enabled as the pdf reader, then go into Macintosh hd/library/internet plugins and delete all pdf plugins. Solved the problem!

  • How can I get Firefox to open htm files?

I have Firefox 3.6.13, and Windows XP. I can't open htm files. I went online, and followed all the directions for Changing the Default Program for a Specific File Extension in Windows XP, and see that Firefox is listed as the program that should open htm files, but I get a blank page when I try to open the file.

Are that files that you have saved on your computer or web pages that you try to open?
Are you opening the files with a double-click in Windows Explorer?

  • Cannot open PDF files in my Hotmail account since this week. Hotmail says it is due to Firefox.

Cannot open PDF files in Hotmail while using Firefox. Using Google Chrome there is no problem. I already have Adobe Reader installed on my PC.

    Hi Zwann,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there. They actually list 2 different PDF plugins. I'd give both a try if you are having issues.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Firefox setup 9.0.1 exe won't extract (cannot open output file)

I downloaded firefox 9.0.1 and it won't extract and install on a win7 computer. It says cannot open output file. I had previous versions of firefox for 10 years. I tried disabling AV and firewall also. Please help. Nate

Thank you! My solution was slightly different, but in the end, seeing what was going on in the Help menu in the browser did the trick. Turned out I had been stuck for who knows how long "downloading" a version 3! Also had a toolbar to disable but not the Ask.
