Cannot Open ID File - Please Help

Hello,
I was sent a file by a client in InDesign, but when I try to open it I get the following message: "Cannot open (file name). Please update plugins to their latest versions or update to the latest version of Adobe InDesign."
I tried downloading plugins from the Adobe site, but it didn't appear to do anything. I have 5.5. I'm guessing this file may have been created in 6. Is there any way I can open this file? It is very important. Could anyone help?

@Bob...the OP gave the error message.
@OP, can you have the person you received the file from save a copy as an IDML file? If this isn't possible, can you upgrade to CS6? And if not, you'll need to upload the file to drop box.com and provide a link either here in the forum, or if you need to keep the file private, provide the download link via a private message.

I've just had disaster happened to me. I've moved about 1GB of data from computer for Flash drive. When attempted to eject thumb drive, it kept saying, drive is in use. Stupid me just removed that drive. Using Data Rescue I've managed to recover the files, but.... All of them are corrupt
Most important file to me is Pages document I was working on for the whole day. I can see files inside 'package' of that .pages file, but none of them could be opened.
Is there a way of repairing that file? Or at least, is there a way of extracting text from it, that's what I care about the most...
Any help, suggestions is appreciated....

How is your flash drive formatted?
I assumes that it is not in a format correctly treating packages.
When we have to copy a document made with an iWork application, it is safe to pack it as a zipped archive.
Doing so get rid of a lot of problems.
In a Pages document, we may see:
a -- a subfolder named Contents and an other one named QuickLook. Don't touch them.
b -- several picture files corresponding to images inserted in the document.
When the doc is in good health, double clicking these files open them in their creation application.
c -- index.xml.gz which is a packed version of the XML file describing our document.
If we double click it, it expands as index.xml which may be read in any XML aware application.
I met some Pages documents whose all items open perfectly but whose the XML file appears as corrupted for Pages.
It seems that something was wrongly described when the file was created so that Pages is unable to re-read it.
May you pack one of your odd files as a zip archive, attach it to a mail and send it to

I would look at its components and if it appears to be the kind of described corruption, I wish to be allowed to send it to Apple.
I assumes that with some samples of corrupted files they would be able to identify what is the wrongdoer.

Have you checked that you are opening the new version? To check this, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and open the Pages app with the new icon, so you will get the new version.
Your problem is caused because Apple decided to keep the old iWork applications version after installing the new one. The only thing you have to do is to open it from the Applications folder, or drag the new version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly

Recently updated ITUNES, cannot open it now, Please help

I updated Itunes last night. Now it will not open when I click on it. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled with the same results. Any ideas?

Same problem here - Click to open iTunes and an error box (grey with red X) pops up with the following message:
"iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."
Please help! It's doing my head in! Advice on other threads is to uninstall QuickTime and install the previous one (QuickTime 7). I did this and it has made no difference whatsoever; same error message pops up. An alternative solution is apparently to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall a previous version. I have not yet tried this - if i uninstall iTunes, won't i lose my music?!
Apparently this is a common error with Windows XP and Vista users after an update but it has never happened to me before.
Can anyone help please?

Trouble with "data transfer" from old computer. Cannot open documents. Please help! Thank you.

Apple did a "data transfer" from our old computer onto our new iMac, and we cannot open any of our old documents that were "transfered." When I open them in "TextEdit," all I get is a lot of random letters and symbols. I've tried everything, please help. Thank you!

What old documents, you need to be much more specific. The info we are loooking for is what app created them, what the file extension is etc...

Documents in my dock are showing up as question marks and I cannot open... please help!!

That may result in losing Dock icons for the Office applications (don't know why it should?) but shouldn't cause document icons in the Dock to disappear.

Huh...? Where did you get it? And what instructions are you looking at? The instructions do NOT tell you to slide the back off. The back doesn't come off. The Sim slot is on the right side of the phone. You use the tool that came with it or a paper clip to eject the SIM tray and put your Nano-SIM in it.

'Unable to open project File' Please help....

Help. Since yesterday, Final Cut Pro has been crashing every time I have tried to render something. I have used the FSC Maintenance Pack that has been recommended and ran Crash Analyser and Corrupt Clip Finder. No corrupt clips were found and the Crash Analyser fixed the problem for a while and I was able to work for a couple of hours. (prior to this I also removed some Motion files and that also temporarily stopped the crashing). I began working on my project again today, and the same thing started to happen. I kept having to turn everything off at the source until finally I gave up! Just before I turned it off I started running Autosave Cleaner but it seemed to freeze too so I Force Quit it. I have just turned it all back on again and to my horror, my project is not even opening. My other FCP projects are opening but not the one I am working on. I have no idea what to do. Final Cut opens and the message is 'Unable to open Project File'. I am so upset and really hope that someone out there can help.
I run 10.5.8, I have 10 GB memory. All my clips are imported as XDCAM EX 720p25 (original format MPEG HD) but I have been working in this project for weeks without a problem.

I don't know why it is set to the internal disk, but that is the default. That is not project related. It is system related (hence System Settings). So probably you started fcp one without the external disk attached. FCP forces you then to choose another scratch-, waveform-, thumbnail-, autosave location.
Probably you've set it all to the internal disk then.
Next time when the external disk was there again you might have only reset the scratch disk, but not your Autosave location... Just a thought.
That is, IMHO, the disadvantage of system orientated scratch disk settings...

Can anyone help me! Whenever i try to log into iTunes it says: We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (-9808).
If this has happened to anyone please tell me how you overcame it. I miss buying music and need some new songs!

I am having the same issue. I have checked the suggestions of proxy and turned off my Norton Firewall and still have the same problem. Can somebody please help?

Problems opening flash file- Please Help!!

I have Flash CS4. I'm having problems opening a specific file. Its about 239,000 KB. Sometimes it opens partially, I can open movie clips and scrub through the time line and see my keyframes. The problem is that it wont display my movie clip keyframes in the viewing window. The flash dialog giving you options to open previous files is there instead. It doesnt go away. My friend can open the exact same file on his computer in Flash just fine (he has the same computer as me) Also, I have hardware acceleration settings turned to 'NONE'. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

hardware acceleration should be on and you might want to re-install Flash CS4 again.

Cannot open iPhoto.. please help!

When I try opening iPhoto I get the message that the library was opened by an unlicesed version of iPhoto, and that I please have to close and open it in iPhoto 2 or 4 - which is very difficult since I already upgraded to iPhoto 5 or 6..
Can anyone help me?

you need to find your old library, did you move it ?
Are you logged in as the same user you normally use ?
The iphoto LIB is located under /users/youruser/pictures
if it's not there you need to find where you moved it to.... if you find the Library double click on it and you will be back in action

I'll go ahead and post the steps for Windows. If you don't use Windows, please ignore this.
Do not uninstall Firefox.
(1) Download a full installer for Firefox 32 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
(2) Rename the Mozilla Firefox program folder
