Cannot Open iTunes Due to Not Finding iTunes Folder

I have been using iTunes 7 and so far it works great. I have my music stored on E:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
However mydrive E is old and I am trying to move everything off of it to a new drive I just purchased, which is installed as drive D. I copied all of the files from E to D. Then I changed the settings in iTunes to point to drive D instead of drive E (Preferences, Advanced tab, General tab, then clicked Change). I then disabled drive E and rebooted my machine.
I then tried to go into iTunes but it won't launch, it gives me an error that says it can't find the iTunes folder.
Help please!!!
Thank you for any help anyone can provide,
Brent Hunter

E:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
that's probably the culprit. My Documents and My Music are special folders in windows 2000 and XP. so even though their physical location has moved to a different drive, your Registry is probably still looking for them on the D.
the following document might be of some help with resetting the special properties of the folders. (it's focussed on "My Music" issues rather than "My Documents" though):

  • I cannot open itunes due to an error 126. I have never backed up my music and do not want to lose anything if I uninstall and then install again. How can I be sure my music is safe?

I cannot open itunes due to an error126. I have never backed up my music library and am worried I will lose it all if I uninstall and then install itunes. Any suggestions??

Back it up. While uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't normally affect the library, other things, such as drive failures, can.

  • My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

    Hey Chris-
It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • I downloaded the latest version of itunes.  Now I cannot open iTunes.  I receive this error message: The procedure entry point AVCFAssetCreateWithByteStreamAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVfoundationCF.dll.  Thoughts?

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes on my PC.  Now I cannot open iTunes.  I receive the following error message: "The procedure entry point AVCFAssetCreateWithByteStreamAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVfoundationCF.dll"  After pressing the "OK" button I receive a second error message: 'iTunes not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 127)".  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled to no avail.  I've also eliminated the temp files (per suggestions on the trouble-shooting page) and no luck.  I also tried system restore and that did not fix the problem.  Any thougths on a repair?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • Cannot open iTunes after upgrade due to missing .dll file

I cannot open iTunes after a recent upgrade.
The error is "Applepushservice.dll is missing.  Please reinstall iTunes."  Which I have now done 8 times.
I have uninstalled everything, clear the cache and rebooted.
Now what?  Can I download the file from somewhere else and if so, where do I install it?
    Many thanks.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Just installed the latest upgrade for iTunes. Cannot open iTunes store?

Just installed the latest upgrade for iTunes. Cannot open iTunes store?

    Hey there Ray Neilson,
It sounds like you are able to open iTunes but cannot access the store. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Troubleshoot issues in Windows
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day (and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues) a software or Internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If iTunes Store appears empty and only displays the message iTunes Store, follow these steps.
Try the steps to troubleshoot iTunes Store connectivity in Windows.
As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you may need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. Follow these steps for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Try disabling any proxies built-in to Windows. You should avoid proxies because they can cause issues.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
Note: The hosts file may be blocking the iTunes Store.Microsoft's article How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? has instructions and a FixIt to have Windows try to reset the hosts defaults for you.Note: Some workplaces may put internal resources in the hosts file and may block iTunes Store. The FixIt doesn't work for Windows 8.To create a copy of your hosts file and replace it with an empty hosts file, follow the instructions below:
You can find the hosts file at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC.
Select the hosts file. There should now be a duplicate of the hosts file named "Copy of hosts" (Windows XP) or "hosts-copy" (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8).
Drag the original hosts file to your desktop.
Right-click the duplicate file and choose Open. You may be prompted to choose the program you want to use to open this file. Double-click Notepad.
When Notepad opens, choose Edit > Select All.
    Choose Edit > Delete.
    Choose File > Save.
    Close Notepad.
Right-click the duplicate file, and choose Rename.
Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
Restart your computer and try connecting to the iTunes Store.
If you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, your security software or firewall may be blocking the ability of iTunes to communicate with the Internet. Learn how to resolve security software issues.
If the issue persists, try the troubleshooting in this article:

    Please!
    Thanks!

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Recently I updated my iTunes account, but there was an error during installation.  Now I cannot open iTunes as an error message appears.  If I delete iTunes from my laptop then reinstall, will I still have access to all my music etc?

The reason why I ask, is because I have another laptop which I then installed iTunes on (this was to overcome the issue of the error message and reduce the risk of losing my music etc. on my first laptop).  I cannot see any of my music on the second laptop, even when I attach my iPod.  I authorised the second laptop to link but as I cannot open iTunes on my first laptop, I cannot access my music.  I'm assuming  iTunes accounts are only stored on individual laptops/PCs and cannot be accessed remotely??  Or am I doing something wrong?  I'm not sure what I can do.

Your iTunes library, media, playlists, and iOS device backups are safe. Please visitTroubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details. The steps in the second box should get iTunes back on track.
I don't make any use of the homesharing feature so I can't really comment on it, but if you want to change which computer you use to manage your devices see this migrate iTunes library post.

cannot open iTunes. I get the message" the file--iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. How do I proceed?

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.
