Cannot open Lightroom 5.6

"Cannot open Lightroom 5 Catalog because another application already has it open"
Would anyone know how to deal with this problem? LR is up to date. I have images due for delivery.
Thanks for any comment!

This is most likely caused by a "lock" file. It is created if Lightroom is not closed down in the correct manner.

  • After Lightroom 5.6 catalog backup, cannot open Lightroom (hour glass appears for a few seconds, then nothing happens)

Cannot open Lightroom 5.6 after catalog backup (hour glass appears, then nothing happens)

I found the solution to this from these thread Re: Photoshop CC opens and then closes immediately. What gives? and Re: Photoshop CC Crashes/Closes within seconds of startup
I did it and it works for me So, I think I should share this so people who have faced the same issue as I can give it a try.
Basically, Just uninstall the Photoshop and Creative Cloud, then rename the folder SLCache to SLCache_old. Restart your computer once and then re-install everything again. (CC and PS)
    It should work.
    Thanks

I cannot open Lightroom catalog bc there is 'not enough room on the hard drive named ...'  I keep erasing more and more on this hard drive and still it does not work and keeps saying the same thing. Please help!

It says 'before continuing, please make at least 20 MB available on this hard drive'.  I have deleted much more than 20 MB and still nothing helps.
    Under system info it says:

    Application architecture: x64
    Physical processor count: 4

Also, please note that I am able to open Lightroom under a different catalog and the photos appear but they cannot be imported bc they 'cannot be read'.

There are files or libraries missing from the Lightroom installation, given the info above.
Oh, and: please stop writing a cache and store directory to the SYSTEM disk.  It should be put into the user's home directory somewhere, not in /Library.

  • Hello I cannot open Lightroom that I purchased via Creative Cloud

Hello I cannot open Lightroom that I purchased via Creative Cloud

What is happening when you try?
Did you have the non-CC version of LR 5 installed as a trial, previously?

  • Cannot open Lightroom program

When clicking on the image to start the program it shows the name of only one of my many catalogs, and when trying to open it, I get an error message stating something like unexpected error - cannot open, try another catalog, but no names or or paths to the other catalogs are accessible?
Yesterday I installed ZIPfile software and also CanoScan 9000f with software and I am afraid that either of those may have overwritten the access rules to Lightroom, but do not know.

I had exactly the same issue and fixed it almost instantly by following the suggestion to rename the previews.lrdata folder in my latest lightroom backup file. This is the same as deleting it. When you then open Lightroom, it will regenerate the missing previews quickly and you will be back in business. My problem was caused by an interruption in the backup process which corrupted the file. John W.

  • Cannot open lightroom

I can't open Lightroom 5.3.  I have been working with it fine, and whle importing a folder I got the blue screen of death.  Since then it will start to open and then give an error window saying it cannot access my preview cache and needs to quit.  I have rebooted multiple times, no help.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, also no help.

In your operating system, delete your preview cache. It is in the same folder as your catalog file, named Previews.Lrdata. Do not delete your catalog file. Restart Lightroom.

  • Cannot open Lightroom Catalog on External Drive

Please excuse the screen name. I tried so many when registering but they were all taken so I was pretty sure this one would be available.
I am migrating from a PC to a Mac Laptop.
I copied my entire photo drive to an external drive which is what i will use with my Laptop. My catalog and photos are stored on this external drive and when I try to open the catalog, I get the following Error:
Lightroom cannot launch with this catalog. It is either on a network volume or on a volume on which Lightroom cannot save changes. But I have no problem opening an image in Photoshop so I know the files copied over in a readable format.
    Ideas?

    Hi
I've just moved from a PC to a Mac as well and is having the same problem as the original comment:
"Lightroom cannot create a catalog named “AATKM82011” on volume “/Volumes/FreeAgent GoFlex Drive/AATKM82011” because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location."
I do understand moving the file(s) (which I have several files in this external drive) to my internal HD...so my question would be, that my external drive can not be accessed (written) unless I reformat the drive? Is this the only way for me to use this drive or is there any other way that anyone can suggest?
Thank you in advance for the help.

  • Cannot open lightroom, says trial membership is over though I have been using it and paying for it

I purchased photoshop and lightroom as a download, now when I access the program it goes to a trial membership page

You uninstall it the same way as you would uninstall any other application, there's nothing special that needs to be done other than you need first to logout of the Creative Cloud from the CC Desktop Application.
On Windows use the Control Panel>Programs & Features, select "Adobe Lightroom 5" in the list and click on the Uninstall button which appears at the top of the list when you have selected the program.
On OSX, drag the Adobe Photoshop 5.app from the Applications folder to the Trash.
Once uninstalled, restart your system, open the CC Desktop App, Login to your Adobe account, then on the Apps tab you should see Lightroom 5 with the "Install" button. Click on it and the install process will commence. Once complete, you're good to go.

  • Cannot open Lightroom CC on Windows 7 64bit machine

Lightroom 5 still opens fine, but since I'm a Creative Cloud user, I'd like the full benefit of that. Any help is appreciated.

  • Cannot open  Lightroom 5 download.dmg on my Mac 10.7, it says the file image is not recognized. Anybody knows what I should do?

I tried to open the Lightroom 5 download (.dmg file) on my Mac, but it gives this:
Any suggestion of what I should do now?

While mine wasn't specifically with lightroom (it was with illustrator), but I found my problem to be that my internet application would quit the download after 599mb. Thus, I would have a corrupt file. Everything on my computer is up to date. I installed the downthemall addon for firefox and was able to complete my 1.5gb download for illustrator. An annoying hiccup, but like ArunPrasad said, this issue can occur because of many reasons.

  • Cannot open Lightroom CC

I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled LR CC 4 times. Also reinstalled the Desktop Application Manager 4 times. When I try to launch the app, the LR CC splash screen displays for ½ second and then disappears. Message screen informs me to reinstall the Application Manager. Everything appears to be normal until I try to launch LR again. And it all begins again.

I finally got it working. I THINK this is the procedure that worked for me.
    1) Open Application Manager > Preferences > General > Sign Out.
    2) Restart Computer
    3) From Applications folder, relaunch Application Manager.
    4) Sign In with Adobe ID
Hope this works for you. Evidently part of my problem was with the Application Manager itself.
Lightroom CC 2015: Quits on launch

  • I cannot open lightroom 5 from a catalog on my external hard drive.

The error prompt is "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit." In small subtexts it states "Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches"
Lightroom has yet to fix the problem and I do not have access to my lightroom catalog.

Rename your Preview Cache. It is in the same location and has the same name as your Lightroom Catalog.  Rename it to catalogname.lrpreviewold and when Lightroom launches, it will rebuild the Preview Cache.
Does this allow you to open your catalog?
