Cannot open mac mail
After the most recent mavericks update, I could not open my mac mail. Whenever I tried to click the mac icon, an error message will always appear stating that 'Mac cannot open because of a problem'. Anyone has faced this problem or have any solution? Thanks!!
Hi Linc Davis, thanks for your help! After reinstalling, My Mac Mail has been revived!
However, my Facetime app seems to have died with the revival of the Mail. Could I trouble you once again to look through the log to help me diagnose the problem? Basically when i start up the Facetime app, it will show the sign in screen prompting you to key in your apple id and pw, which i did. After signing in, it will go to the page saying 'A phone number is associated with the Apple ID "-". People will call using your email address and phone number. Which one would you like to use?' and shown is a list of email address and phone number linked to my apple ID. I tried selected only my email address or both my email address and phone number and clicked next, and Facetime would show that it is verifying. However, after a while, it will return back to the first sign in page, without signing me in at all. May I know what is the problem? Sorry the console log might be a little long but it's all Facetime. This problem has been occuring periodically previously before I reinstalled the os as well ever since I upgraded to Mavericks. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!

Cannot open Mac Mail messages.
Hi
I have a G5 pre Intel OS 10.5.8, with Mac Mail v 3.6. I cannot open my messages. I still can receive and send messages. I checked with my ISP and my settings are correct. Mac Mail's Connection Doctor says connection with the internet and my ISP are good.
I believe I will have to reinstall Mac Mail. I first want to make sure my messages are saved.
Does anyone know where on my computer the messages reside?
Where can I get just Mac Mail to reinstall or must I reinstall the OS?

On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...

Basically I cannot upload videos sent from a Sprint PCS mobile to my email account because Windows technology is required. I am aware of the virtual box and bootcamp but I would much prefer a Mac only solution...Perhaps someone has written a script or knows a workaround?

I didn't misread your post. Since you refuse to provide details about the required "Windows technology", I can only guess that perhaps it's an issue regarding WMV files. If that's the case, you should investigate Flip4Mac WMV: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/28842 .
If that's not the problem, you could increase the chances that someone could help you by supplying details of the required "Windows technology". -
Can't Open Mac Mail after Recent Update
Last night I performed a software update and today I cannot open my mail application. When I do, I get the following error message:
You can’t use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X
You tried to open Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085) in:
/Applications/iWork '09/Mail.app
It can’t be used on this version of Mac OS X. Try opening the version of Mail located in the Applications folder on your computer. For more information, click the Help button.
When I try to open Mail from the applications folder as it instructs, I still get the same error message. I did notice that when I view the program in the preview window that it says Mail version 4.6 even though the error message says 4.5. I would suspect that has something to do with the problem, but that's as good at troubleshooting as I get. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever. -

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I've stuck with Entourage way too long. Now I don't dare install the Mavericks OS because all my Entourage files will go away. And my iMac won't open Mac Mail (probably because I've never opened it in the 5 - 6 years I've owned the Mac.) Any suggestions?
If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

updated today and cannot open my mails it says: The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

When I open mac mail, it opens 1000 emails in separate windows. Emails that are not even in my account anymore. The system freezes and the only thing I can do is force quit. Can anyone help?

No such problem when I go through Internet Explorer.hello, there are reports that the foxit pdf plugin is causing this issue. you might want to disable this plugin in firefox > addons > plugin until foxit offers a fix/update for its plugin.

I'd first recommend restarting your computer before taking the steps below.
Click the Finder icon on the left side of the Dock to open a new Finder window (if no new window appears, select New Finder Window from Finder's File menu).
Select Applications from the left sidebar.
Locate Mail inside of Applications and double-click the icon to launch Mail.
If this doesn't work, could you provide some more information as to how you're opening the application and what you're seeing? -
