Cannot open movie

I cannot open a project created in iMovie. When attempting to open I get the message "The project could not be opened, because the folder is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect." I have gone to Get Info and unlocked folder and changed permissions. What should I do?
Glenn
iMac G5 1.8GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iMovie 4.0.1

I quote Karl Petersen:
"This workaround is for this error message in iMovie 4: "The project could not be opened, because the folder is locked, or the folder permission are incorrect. If the project is on a CD-ROM, network server, or locked disk, then copy it to your hard drive before opening it. If the project is already on your hard disk, then you may not have permission to modify that folder. Correct the folder permissions and try again."
Here's how to replace the current project folder with a new one in iMovie 4:
1. In Finder, create a new folder anywhere OTHER THAN inside the old project folder. Name the new folder "Replacement" or something.
2. Create a new folder inside the Replacement folder. Name it "Media".
3. Open the Media folder of the iMovie project, then choose Edit>Select All.
4. Drag all the selected files to the new Media folder.
5. Drag the files inside the iMovie project folder to the Replacement folder.
6. Repeat #2 through #4 for any other folders in the project folder.
You now have a new project folder named Replacement that contains all the files from the original project. Double-click the project file inside Replacement. If the project opens successfully, quit iMovie, rename Replacement to give it the name of your project, and you're done.
If it doesn't open successfully, move the project.mov file that's inside Replacement to some other folder and try again. "

There isn't currently any music, films or TV programmes available in the South Korean store, so you will only see iTunes U in the iTunes store app. You can't use the US store unless you are in the US, you have to be in a country to use its store (that is in the Store's terms) - so whilst you are in South Korea you can only use the South Korean store.
Are there other music purchase download sites in South Korea that you could use ? You can also copy your CDs via your computer's iTunes

  • Cannot Open .MOV Quicktime Files From Drive

    Greetings All!
Can anyone tell me why I cannot open files from my secondary hard drive?
I have two hard drives in my computer both are internal, one is 160Gb used for XP and other programs and the other is 250Gb used as a mass storage device for misic, pictures, video etc. However when I try to open any of the QT files that my digital camera creates I receive the following message:
Couldn't open the file "138810" because an unknown error occurred. The
number of the error is: -8971
My operating system is Widows XP MCE
    Computer: Compaq Presario Desktop SR1950NX
    RAM Memory: `1Gb
    Hard Drive 1: 160Gb
    Hard Drive 2: 250Gb
    QT Version 6.5.2
If you need any other information please dont hesitate to ask!

I've had a problem in the past with opening .mov files from a second hard drive which was caused by the drive being named in a way QT could not recognize it. The drive was named (F:\F:\) when changing the drive letter to a single(F:\). QT was then able to recognize and play. But that was generating a, error 43 file could not be found. So you might still want to check how the drives are named.
I read that error 8971 can be a need to update QT,but don't know how accurate the info is. If you do update from QT6 to QT7 and are using QT Pro you'll have to purchase a new key

  • Cannot open movie on ipad

I purchased a movie on Itunes and try to sync to ipad.  It give me a CANNOT OPEN message when i try to play it.  I have never had this message with any other movies i have purchased in the itunes store.  Does anybody have a fix for this?
    Thank you

I wiped my iphone as there was an issue with the audio.
Decided not long after to wipe my laptop also.
I downloaded my purchases back onto my laptop.  Tried to sync, and got the same error.
Deleted the purchases from my iphone.  Went into Itunes on the iphone and downloaded a purchase right on the iphone.  Same problem.
Any solution for that?  It is happening with more than one movie.  In particular, The fast & the furious, the fast and the furious: tokyo drift.
Some movies work, like Fast & Furious (the fourth installment).
I have unlimited bandwidth so I don't care how many ways or times I have to try to get this to work again on my iphone, but please there needs to be a solution.

  • Quicktime cannot open .MOV file

A friend recorded a video using his iphone and sent it to me. it has the extension .MOV
when I try to open it using quicktime I get this message:
QuickTime Player can't open "mp video for Jimmy.MOV"
I'm on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9.5, using Quick Time 10.3

Looks as if nobody wants to address this issue here... That or everyone is too busy checking out the official Yosemite Mac OS release.
A MOV file is basically and MOV file container containing any form of compatible data. Thus, it is often helpful include information regarding what form of data is actually contained within the file.
Since the original file was recorded on an iPhone, the MOV file should contain H.264 video with AAC audio and should be compatible with both the QT X v10.3 and QT 7 players under Mavericks. However, since the file was obviously edited (at least the filename was changed), can you confirm the type of data actually contained in the?
In some cases, an iPhone (H.264/AAC) video may not open correctly in QT following security and/or system updates. In some cases, simply rebooting the system may "fix" the problem.
Another possible test you can run is to try and play the file in a third-party media player. If the file plays correctly, then the file is okay and the problem is most likely associated with the codec configuration, the player app, the PLIS file, etc. and you will have to run further tests.
In still other cases, a file may become corrupted during editing or transmission. In these cases it is often necessary to examine either or both the original source file and the received file to determine the specific source of the problem, as well as, the problem source.
In any case, at this point, based on the limited information given, responders can only make guesses as to what the primary issue is here or how it can be corrected.

When I open Quicktime player, and click on the movie trailers on the right side of the player screen, it opens a Browser window saying.. wait for Itunes to open, other wise click Itunes on the dock... I tunes does not open by itself, and even if you click it on the dock, it does not open the movie. How do I fix this. I have tried deleting and reinstalling Quicktime to no avial. Please help if you can.

Oh. Okay well then I guess it didn't work for me, I've downloaded tons of applications since this problem began. Any other ideas?
Sorry, I didn't read the thread carefully enough. The fix I'm talking about, where the Videos app is jammed up and no longer working, requires you to download and also, just momentarily, play some different content, most typically a video podcast perhaps, in the iPod player/app.. I've never heard of this particular problem being fixed by downloading an application, nor have I ever tried to it to see if downloading and playing some music might also work.

  • Cannot open .mov files exported from FCP X 10.0.9

I am trying to export an H.264 version of a 422 file for use on Vimeo.  When I go to my desktop and click on the exported file to check it I get a message that says the file type is unsupported.
Neither my old nor new Quicktime programs will open the file.  I've also failed at directly uploading the clip to Vimeo.
    I need help!
My operating system is 10.7.5, would this cause the error?
    Thanks,
    Tyson

    Exporting from 10.0.9
I used the Share button and tried both "Master File" and "Export File" to save an H.264 version to my desktop.

  • I cannot open movie rentals on the ipod. if I try to update it it tells me to move the rentals back into my Library bu I tunes will not allow me to do that. how can I move the rebtals back into the library?

How can I move rentals from my Ipod back into my I tunes Library?

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

First, I would recommend repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.
If that doesn't fix the problem, there's a very dangerous command you can execute in the Terminal.  This is very hazardous, because a simple typo can result in very drastic consequences.  I have seen people erase their entire hard drive by putting a space in the wrong place!  So, please follow the directions I'm going to give you very carefully!
Open the Terminal, which is found in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.  In the Terminal, enter the following:
    sudo rm -f
Make sure to put a space after the "-f"!  Then, drag the troublesome file from the Finder and drop it on the Terminal window.  That should insert the path to the file in the command.  Then go back to the Terminal and press return.  You will be asked for your password, and when you type it, nothing will be shown as a security measure.  Press return again after entering your password.  The file should be deleted.

  • Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto
    Regards
    TD

  • "Cannot open" error when downloaded *purchased* movie from icloud?

This had happened multiple times and I cannot believe it hasn't been fixed when I see issues with rentals from years ago!  I fully downloaded a movie I purchased a year ago to my iPhone. It successfully downloaded, processed, etc. Shows the dot next to it as fully unwatched. Plenty of room on phone. Have watched movie on our Apple TV - no problem.
WHen I go to watch, annoying "cannot open" message. :-(
Do they seriously expect me to ONLY download movies to a computer with a hardwire connection and transfer them? I can't travel with an iMac desktop, obviously! What's the point of icloud then?!!!!! It's ridiculous!
ANY tricks to get this movie to play? Anyone have any luck in this situation?
    Thanks.

    Hi kfrau13,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you were not able to view the rented movie, you may want to report the issue with your purchase:

  • "Cannot open" error when trying to stream movie to iDevices

I'm having trouble with two videos I recently purchased in iTunes.  The movies play on my computer, but I cannot play them on any devices when I stream them over "Home Sharing".  I get an error "Cannot Open".  This happens on all my iPads and iPhones.  Other movies play fine.  What could the problem be?

I fixed mine by unplugging apple tv for about five minutes, then plugging it back in.
