Cannot open Office 2010 apps in Windows 8

I have had my Windows 8 computer for one year. I have installed the Windows 8 update and have Windows updates coming in automatically. In the past few weeks I cannot open any of the Office apps.. they start to open and then stall out. If I restart the computer
and immediately try to open Word or Excel, they will open. Any ideas on how to fix this?

As far as I know, Windows 8 has new feature "Fast Startup" start when we shut down the PC. It stores some data, like kernel session, device drivers, system information, in a file in the system level memory and when you switch it back on, Windows
uses data stored in this file to resume your system and since reading this file and re-initializing of device drivers is much faster.
I notice that restarted the computer, and Office worked fine. I think the Office programs closed the Office completely.
Please try to disable the "Fast Startup" to test.

Try following.
First (force) quit Safari, iWeb and all other open applications.
Drag iWeb to the Trash, empty the trash. Restart mac. Recover iWeb from Time Mache backup before you made the mistake.

Cannot install Office 2010 on Windows Server 2008 terminal server

Hello
I have a Windows 2008 terminal server which has Office 2007 Professional Plus on it. We want to upgrade it to Office 2010 Professional Plus.
Following steps from Technet, I made sure all users were out of the terminal server, then selected "Install Application on Terminal Server", then ran the setup.exe file for Office 2010.
The splash screen comes up for Office 2010 but then disappears and the install does not progress, although the setup.exe is still running in Task Manager. The "install Application on Terminal Server" window is still open, waiting for me to click
Next, Finish or Cancel and nothing else happens.
I also tried putting the server into install mode from command prompt and rebooting the server and re-attempting but no good.
How can I go about troubleshooting this issue?

Hi Luke,
Are you using a volume license version of Office 2010 for Remote Desktop Services/Terminal
Services? I may be wrong but I think that only this version of Office 2010 will work on a Terminal
Server. The Retail Version will just not work in this case.
I had similar problem where I tried to upgrade from Office 2007 to Office 2010 on a Terminal Server (Windows
2008) but wasn't successful with the upgrade/installation.

I am having a problem opening any Office 2013 file when it is located on a network drive. I immediately get the error:
"Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
. To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to."
It only occurs when I try to access the file when it is stored on a network share. I cannot open any word, excel or PPT files located on my file shares.
I am on Windows 8 (pro), part of a local domain based on Server 2003, and have administrator rights to the domain and the file share where the Excel file resides (and Word files -same problem). If I copy the file locally, I can either open
it directly, or right-click, go to Properties and 'un-block' the file and then open it. But it is impractical to keep doing this, as I edit different files from the directory tree all day.
I have bing'd and google'd this extensively, and the only answers I come up with do not work, such as going into the DCOM config system and changing the user from interactive to launching user, or vice versa, or even using a specific user - mine
with the password. Since the product is so young there aren't a lot of posts on this, and nothing has improved the situation.
Can you add any insight to this? I really want to use Office 2013, but this is such an obstacle I'm going to have to downgrade if this problem cannot be resolved. Thank you very much for any help you can offer.

If DCOM config solution did not work, I'd suggest narrow down the problem by trying to access another network share on another server, try to open an Office file there, do we still have the error? It could help us determine if the issue is on the client
machine or the server side.

How do I install office 2010 to my windows 7 running parallels where I have no disc drive on my macbook air

I have a mba without a disc drive. I installed parallels 7 and windows 7. Now I want to install office 2010 and other windows apps that I have on disc. I tried using remote disc to install from the disc drive on another windows 7 computer. no luck. Can someone refer me to information about how to do these installs?

Thank you for your responses. I couldn't figure out how to download it fro the internet without buying it. But I got a thumb drive to work very easily. You just have to have windows running and it asked if I wanted to run the usb drive through windows or the mac.

Cannot open Sharepoint 2010 task with Outlook 2013

Before I start, I have already gone through the "Unable to open Sharepoint 2010 task from any office application - cannot open new form (schema validation errors). I have tried all the fixes listed in that thread to no avail.
What I am wondering is if it there is something more complex happening because I have outlook 2013 but our SP server is 2010.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to make this work? I have tried everything that I have found and a lot more to try and resolve this, have been working on and off on this problem for more than 6 months. Any help would be appreciated.

According to your description, the task cannot be open in Outlook 2013.
The issue may be with any Multiple lines of text fields in Enhanced Rich text type in the SharePoint 2010 Task List or the associated task list for the workflow.
I recommend to check for any Multiple lines of text fields(such as Description field) in the SharePoint 2010 Task List or the associated task list for the workflow, and change them to Plain text or Rich text instead.

Upgraded Exchange to CU 7, now users cannot open emails in a separate window in webmail (OWA).

Strange issue. I upgraded our Exchange 2013 to CU 7 and now users are reporting they cannot open emails in a separate window in OWA. Regardless of browser, browser version even regardless of another computer or mac. Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari...same
issue regardless of version numbers also.
I've tested these settings on several laptops and I cannot open emails in a separate window. This happened a day after the upgrade. Previously this was working for all users. Now its hit or miss. Not all users are affected however. My mailbox/account is
also a victim so I can test any theories out.
Any suggestions would help and be appreciated.

Please check if there is any error message when these affected users try to open mail in a new window.
Please check if these users can open messages in Outlook. This can help us to narrow the issue.
And please check the aplication log in Exchange server to see if there is events related to this problem, which can help us to troubleshoot the issue.

The Mac App Store application is damaged. Open  > About this Mac, and check which Mac OS X version you have.
If you have got 10.7 or newer, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X. Another option is to download the OS X installer from the Mac App Store and use Pacifist to install Mac App Store.
If you have got 10.6, first try reinstalling OS X 10.6.8 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US If it doesn't work, insert the Snow Leopard DVD, hold the C key while your Mac is starting up and reinstall Mac OS X. OK, just remembered that someone had posted a solution for this "login loop" issue.
If you follow the directions here and be sure to enter all of this EXACTLY as it appears here, you may be able to solve this problem.
You will first need to boot into single user mode, which will bring you to a scary looking text only screen. Don't be frightened.
To do this, startup holding the Cmd-S keys together. At the entry which shows root# enter the following exactly. Write it down now, since you won't be able to copy/paste. Pay attention to case and spaces. Everything is lower case. The only spaces are between /sbin/mount and -uw, between -uw and / and between rm and /var/audit/current
Type in
/sbin/mount -uw /
Hit return and then at the next root# prompt, type in
rm /var/audit/current
Then hit return and at the next root# prompt type in "reboot" no quotes. Don't type in anything new until you get the root# prompt after entering each command.
If after entering rm /var/audit/current, you get a message back saying "no such file," then just type in "reboot" at the prompt.

Windows 7 - Open Excel 2010 in separate window

Setup:
Windows 7 Ent.
2 monitors in extended desktop mode
Office 2010
Opening Excel Files from multiple sources (Outlook 2010, Desktop, OneNote 2010, etc.)
New laptop with 12GB of RAM
i7 Quad Proc.
Problem:
By default, all of my Excel books open in the same window of Excel. I open lots of sheets that need visual side-by-side comparison. I want every every Excel book I open to have its own Excel window. It doesn't necessarily need to be it's
own running instance of the binary, but it's own separate window that I can minimize, maximize, resize, or close independently of the other Excel windows.
I've tried the registry fixes for DDE. I've tried the "Ignore other applications with DDE" option in Excel. Both of those solutions give the desired multi-window result, but both break my ability to open spread sheets from OneNote and
Outlook. The error for OneNote is "OneNote has encountered a problem and cannot complete this operation", when I double click an embedded Excel file.
Question:
Is it possible to get Excel to open a new window for each file without disabling DDE or breaking my ability to open embeddede spreadsheets from other applications like Outlook and OneNote? The "Put Excel into windowed mode and drag it across multiple
monitors" work around is not feasible since I run two different sized monitors.

Not necessarily an ideal solution, but the only way I've found with Excel 2010 is to open a second instance of Excel, which will then allow you to move it to the second screen and either open your spreadsheets from there, or drop and drop them into
the required copy of Excel from Outlook/OneNote. Annoyingly with Excel 2010 by default it only opens one instance of Excel and then all workbooks you open after then are opened within that same instance, but if you select Excel from the start menu it will
open a second (or third, or forth etc) instance which can be moved and handled independently.
The other option would be to upgrade to Excel 2013 since that doesn't have that limitation, but that may be an expensive way around the issue!
