Cannot open old Page & Numbers Doc.

Cannot open old Page & Numbers Doc. after installing Yosemite 10.10

I found a fix.  I opened up the document (either Page or Numbers) in Preview.  Then under Edit I hit Select All and then Copy.  Then I opened up Page or Numbers and opened a blank document.  Then under Edit I hit Paste and Match Style.  Then Save Document under new name.

  • Cannot open old Pages documents

Cannot open old Pages documents after installing Yosemite. "The required index.xml file is missing." What happened?

Are you sure you are opening the new iWork apps versions? They keep the old iWork version in case you want to use it again, so you might be opening the wrong version.
Open a Finder window and choose Applications in the sidebar. Then, look for the Pages, Numbers and Keynote icons with the new icon, and open them. You should be able to open your documents without any problem.
To prevent this issue again, drag their icons to the Dock, so you can access to them easily

  • Cannot open old appleworks/clarisworks docs

I got a new man mini, my 3.5 year old mac died. I have a lot clarisworks and appleworks docs. I cannot find appleworks or claris works on the new computer. Is is possible the computer does not come with it? If not where do I get it? And will the new program open my old docs? I see in the apple store you can buy iWorks for 80 bucks, is this what I have to do? I thought appleworks came with the old system. Is there a program that came with the computer that will open these docs?

Ok, I got iWorks09. I still cannot open documents created in 2006 with the .cwk appendage that were created in the graphics portion of the old program, I think they are called graphics docs? Anyways I have a lot of files that I created in 2006 or before for our church carnival, tickets, fliers, etc. None of these docs were created with the word processing portion of the old program, I used the graphics portion and they will not open. When I get info on the .cwk file I want to open and it says its a text doc. I know they are not text docs but this is what the computer recognizes. Am I screwed? Will I ever be able to open these files? I am able to open old .cwk files that are word processing only, no graphics

  • Recently I updated to Maverick -- I also updated Numbers, Pages and Keynote.  NOW, I cannot open my pages documents.  I get a message that I need a newer version of Pages.  I have the newest version (5.2).  How do I get around this to view my documents?

Recently I updated to Maverick -- I also updated Numbers, Pages and Keynote.  NOW, I cannot open my pages documents.  I get a message that I need a newer version of Pages.  I have the newest version (5.2).  How do I get around this to view my documents?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • I downloaded newest version of Numbers as prompted, but now cannot open old work

I downloaded newest version of Numbers, as prompted, but now cannot open old work.
When I try to, the message is that I need to download new version.
Because I help run a small business, I have found a work around, for now, with old template, so we can still keep billing (very important)
but I just realized that when printing a saved pdf format copy of an invoice, completed after the
update, the color logo is not printing even though it appears to be there.
I guess this is two problems.
I have a Mac OSX version 10.9.4 and downloaded, I thought, Numbers 3.2.2 (but did not pay for app)
    thanks,

    Margarita,
You should still have the previous version of Numbers and may continue to use it.
The previous version is located in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"
You can tell the difference between the two versions by noting  the icon:
         Numbers 2.3                    Number 3.2
         3 bars                              4 bars
I keep both in my dock so that I know which one I am launching

  • Open old pages

I am using Pages 5.2.2 and OSX 10.9.5. I  can't open old pages documents. When I try, I am prompted to open them with Pages 09 first.  I don't have Pages 09.  Is there any other way to convert old pages files so they can be read with the current version.
When I tried to send an OLD document to a friend to see if they could open and save it with 09 I noticed that QUICKLOOK which is built into mail could display the old Pages document.  SO... is there a way to use "Quicklook" to save the file so that it could it be used with out doing the Pages 09 shuffle.
This is ridiculus that there is not a way to read the legacy files directly with the newest version of Pages.  Alternatively couldn't Apple just provide a free conversion utility app.

I migrated to a NEW MacBook Pro when I did, it was a clean install and I only brought over my files.  I did clean install of all my apps.  Because the NEW MacBook Pro does not have a DVD drive I can't install the iWork08 that I have on DVD.
This is maddening it should not require a Herculean effort to read legacy files.    Perhaps Apple could make Pages and Numbers 09 available
from the app store.   It is Apple that has chosen to move away from discs with MacBooks and Apple is only providing NEW apps via the app store.
This is a mess APPLE caused my the planned obsolescence  of the DVD drive and physical media for Applications combined with a complete fail
on supporting their own legacy files.
Peter thanks for the helpful idea but unless I don't have my old MacBook so saving the files as Word docs is not possible.
How can I get an online copy of the 09 apps?  Apple does not sell them.  I shouldn't have to pay to buy an OLD app just to convert files but...I can't keep hitting my head against the wall either.

  • "Safari cannot open the page – 'too many redirects'"

    Problem
iPad issue impacting our secure website clients. Error message reads “Safari cannot open the page – ‘too many redirects’”
    History:
Recently, some of our secure website clients using Mac/Safari 4.0.5 faced issues, all related to one common problem that went away with Safari 5.0 & Mac OS updates. On all the three occasions, we observed that the error occurred when the HTTPS redirects contained the port number in the URL. During our discussions with Applecare personnel (case number was 350144) we understood that there have been problems with Safari 4.0.5 "not being able to handle port numbers in the URL properly". The issue went away with the launch of Safari 5 and Mac OS updates which followed the browser release.
Understandably, the resolution to the issue was fairly opaque and if I were to hazard a guess on what the problem could have been it should probably be something to do with Safari not being able to read cookies after these redirects.
    Questions
    1) Have any of you encountered such a problem on Mac/Safari 4.0.5 and are now facing on iPad?
    2) Any workarounds / solutions / learning that you have come across and can share
    Thanks!!

    Hi and welcome...
On a Mac. HTTPS redirects can be the result of proxies. Open System Preferences / Network. Click: Advanced tab then click: Proxies
If any of the boxes on the left under: *Select a protocol to configure* are selected, deselect, click OK.
Here's just one example of the HTTPS / Proxy issue: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12255869&#12255869
For Safari - iPad. Tap Settings / Wi Fi / Select your network by tapping the blue arrow. Configure network settings there.

  • Windows users cannot open my Pages documents

Even though I check Windows Friendly Attachment, Windows users cannot open my Pages documents. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

If the only questions we're going to answer are the ones that aren't already answered in the manual, then these discussions will consist of little more than directing people to page numbers. Yes, it would be nice if people read the manual before posting here. But everyone's brain works a little differently, and I don't mind if nice people ask questions that can be solved by reading the manual or doing a search in this discussion group. Even figuring out how to find things in the manual isn't intuitive to a lot of people.
In terms of helping people, it's actually a lot less work to provide a solution for them than to look it up in the manual, then come back and report the page number.

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • HT4199 What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and the bars come up but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and it show I'm on my wifi, but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says, Safari cannot open this page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

When you click on the WiFi network name, have you also provided the password for accessing the network?  You should get a dialogue box asking you for the security information the first time you connect.
If you are not able to connect, you might want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
Then go back to Settings > WiFi and select your network name again and make sure the security information is now entered correctly.
If you still cannot connect, power down the router, wait a few minutes, power up the router, with the iPad powered down the whole time, and after the router has had several minutes to stabilize power up the iPad.  See if it now connects correctly.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

when i click on safari to use the internet it says "safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet", but i am connected to a wifi network so how do i get safari to work?

you may be connected to the wireless network but the question is the internet working properly on the wireless network...
what i mean is that i can make a wireless network without the internet so i can save and share files and have other devices connected to the same network access them... but you have to make sure that your internet it running properly... may have to reconfigure the router is your using PPPOE or if it was working prior to your post then try to restart your modem... that usually resolves most issues.

  • Safari will not open on my iPad Air...."Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server." There were recent updates on my iPad Air. How can I fix this problem?

How can I correct the issue of Safari not connecting on my iPad Air? It was working great 2 days ago.....now on September 20 it is not working! I have an internet connection but Safari will not open. "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server."

    Hello Beckieor,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning network issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found

Trying to open Outlook Webmail App from Ipad 2 and am receiving the Error Message "Safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found.
I have tried resetting my ipad 2 to no avail.  Internet connection is working and am able to get into other apps/sites.  Read older posting that this could be a DNS issues???
    Help?

The only other thing I can think of is to try a device reset (be sure and also close off all running apps beforehand):
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
