Cannot open old tif files

When I try to open  old,  saved  TIF files in CS6, the followingt message appears, "Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".

Open Bridge. Ctrl + K to go to Preferences or Edit > Preferences
Choose 'File Type Associations' from the left side bar
Look for TIFF format listed. On the right side of that, I guess it will show Photoshop CS5 for you. Click the dropdown, see if Photoshop CS6 is available as an option. If yes, click it, click OK to save. If Photoshop CS6 is not available, click 'Browse' from dropdown, look for Photoshop.exe in Program Files\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Photoshop.exe. Select that and now the dropdown will show that. Click OK to save.

  • Cannot open old Illustrator files (pre version 8) in CS4 trial

    Hi
I am thinking of upgrading from Illustrator CS2 to CS4. However, I have downloaded the trial version and have found that Illustrator CS4 cannot open old Illustrator files earlier than version 8 (pre 2000) whereas Illustrator CS2 had no problem with this. I do not want to resave my old files as there are way too many of them (hundreds!).
    I am running Windows XP.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks

Exactly what happens when you attempt to open one of these old files in AI 14 (CS4)? (If you get an error message, what does it say?)
Can you post a sample file up on a server or service and provide the link here? That way, others with AI 14 can test to see whether it's something peculiar to your installation.
Please also tell us exactly how you are attempting to open the files. (Double-clicking in Explorer? Using File | Open from within Illustrator? Dragging and dropping onto an AI 14 shortcut?)
    >...CS4 cannot open old Illustrator files earlier than version 8...
I find it very difficult to believe AI 14 can open version 8 but not version 7 files. There was no significant change in the native file format.

  • CS3 cannot open original TIF file after "save as" Photoshop PDF

Mac OS X 10.4.11, Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1), 2.5 GB RAM, and the files are saved to the afp file server (Windows Server 2000 SP4 running Services For Macintosh). When saving a TIF file as a PDF the original TIF file cannot be opened again.
Once Photoshop starts doing this I have to restart the system before the corruption problem goes away. The problem with that is if I do not catch it, I might convert 20 or so files in a day before I catch the problem. Once the TIF files are corrupt, the only thing I can do is restore from backup (long process) or save as again from the PDF file to TIF to place in my InDesign file. When I open the original TIF file I get an error: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file." OR "Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing a TIFF file."
Has anyone else had this problem?

    Justin,
    >and the files are saved to the afp file server
If you are saving directly to the server, that can be trouble, particularly if IT is clueless or not vigilant about network issues and maintenance. Adobe specifically warns against working across your network. Please see the FAQ and numerous topics on this "problem".
Basically, drag-copy the file to your local drive. Work locally. Save locally. Drag-copy the completed file back to the server.
Let us know if working as I've just described "solves" the problem.

  • Cannot open some tif files in camera raw

When I try to open my scanned tiffs (Coolscan 9000, Silverfast) with camera raw I get this option only with some of those files. With others it is not even greyed out it just isn't there. So far I have not discovered any regularity about this. I does not have to do with file size, because I have this problem with large and with small files. I don't batch scan. I set all the requested preferences in Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop and purged the cache several times. Camera Raw must be installed properly because there is a number of tiff files that I can open without a problem. If I try one of those files that won't open from Photoshop instead (via "open as" Raw) I get a "program error". Does anybody have an idea? I have searched the forums but so far I have not found an answer.

    Gabriele and Ann,
After some helpful input from Julie Manley at Adobe (in response to my email) and a little trial-and-error on my part, I AM NOW ABLE, FROM WITHIN BRIDGE, TO OPEN ALL MY TIFF AND JPEG (AND .CRW RAW) IMAGES IN ACR 4.1 and, at my choice, with ACR hosted either by Bridge 2.1 or Photoshop CS3. In case it may assist you or others, the steps I took are set out below.
    1. Start by clearing/unchecking/turning-OFF all options in Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop preferences which in any way relate to using or preferring Camera Raw for opening or editing JPEG, TIFF or RAW files. There are 2 relevant Tabs in Bridge (General (1 checkbox under Behavior) and Thumbnails (1 checkbox under Performance and File Handling)). Camera Raw has 2 relevant checkboxes (under JPEG and TIFF Handling) at the bottom of its single page of preferences. There is one relevant Tab in Photoshop (File Handling - in which you must clear 2 checkboxes under File Compatibility).
    2. Close Photoshop and Bridge. Restart Photoshop.
    3. Restart Bridge by holding down the CTRL key while double-clicking on its shortcut or the executable file itself. You will be presented with the Reset dialog displaying 3 checkboxes called: Reset preferences to factory settings, Purge entire thumbnail cache, and Reset to default Workspace. Tick all 3 boxes and continue with loading Bridge.
    4. On my system, step 3 did not work first time around. So I closed Bridge and repeated step 3. The second time around it did work, and the option "Open in Camera Raw... CTRL + R" was re-enabled in the File Menu of Bridge and in the the right-click menu of the mouse (previously it had been greyed-out). Examination of the Preferences for Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop revealed that the only change in all 3 occured in the Bridge/Preferences/Thumbnails Tab, where the checkbox for "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files" was now ticked/turned-ON.
    5. Steps 1 to 4 above resulted in the following functionality on my system:
    (a) Selecting a JPEG, TIFF or RAW thumbnail in Bridge and pressing CTRL+R opens the file in ACR hosted by Bridge.
    (b) Selecting a JPEG, TIFF or RAW thumbnail in Bridge and pressing CTRL+O opens the file in ACR hosted by Photoshop.
    (c) Right clicking on a JPEG, TIFF or RAW thumbnail in Bridge and choosing "Open in Camera Raw" opens the file in ACR hosted by Bridge.
    (d) Using the File Menu and choosing "Open in Camera Raw" obviously has the same result as (c).
    (e) The best bit: Double-clicking a JPEG or TIFF thumbnail in Bridge opens the file directly in Photoshop.
    (f) Double-clicking a RAW thumbnail in Bridge opens the file in ACR hosted by Photoshop.
    (g) Shift + double-clicking a RAW thumbnail in Bridge opens the RAW file directly in Photoshop, by-passing ACR, and (as I understand it) by default converting the RAW file to a TIFF "on-the-fly" - although the file keeps the RAW file extension (.CRW or whatever) until you save it from within Photoshop.
    6. This functionality suits me just fine, at least at the moment, as I do most of my editing of JPEG and TIFF images in Photoshop rather than ACR because Photoshop offers local editing as opposed to ACR's global-only editing. Interestingly, at least for Gabriele and Ann, something like 90% of my current work-in-progress consists of editing 16-bit TIFF scans of 35mm slides done with the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 using NikonScan software. But every now and then, though I suppose it is really on a regular basis, I like to contrast my Photoshop results with what can be achieved in ACR - particularly with respect to White Balance and the group of Exposure controls, where ACR is really very good.
    7. If your emphasis/workflow is based more on using ACR for JPEG and TIFF editing rather than Photoshop, however, and you would prefer to have JPEG and TIFF images open automatically in ACR (hosted by Bridge) upon double-clicking their thumbnails, then that can be achieved easily by adding 1 more entry to the Bridge Preferences. In the General Tab, tick the checkbox for "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge". This is a little misleading because it actually opens all RAW files in ACR (hosted by Bridge), whether or not they have had any previous Camera Raw settings applied to and saved with them.
    8. No doubt, in true Photoshop tradition where you can get to a result by many different paths, there are other combinations of preferences in Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop regarding JPEG and TIFF file handling which produce the same or similar functionality to that set out in 5(a) to 5(g) above, but I have not stumbled upon, and am not in the least interested in looking for, them. What I now have finally works. Yipee!

  • Cannot open old DV files Created in older versions of PP

I started a project on one machine using CS3. I captured all of the footage using CS3. The footage was regular DV footage captured direct from a DV camcorder, no special codecs or anything. Three are not even any effects of any kind on any clip. its all simply captured footage and thats all.
I move the capture hard-drive to my CS4 machine and try to open the project in CS4 on the other machine and CS4 crashes (after converting to a CS4 project) . I open the CS3 project in CS3 on this new machine and all is well. Everything is fine and a save as a new name.
Again, I try to open in CS4 and it crashes (after converting to a CS4 project). So I start CS4 again and this time I try to start a new project. So far so good until I try to import a clip that was captured using CS3. Crashes again.
Next, I open CS4 and start a new project and import both a .psd and a .mov file successfully. Then, I open an old .avi DV clip from some other project back in CS1 days. It too bombs off CS4.
Next, I export from the CS4 project the timeline with the .psd and .mov clip as a DV avi file using media encoder. Then I import the resulting file back into CS4 and CS4 again crashes. So it won't even import its own footage created in CS4!
Any ideas what is happening to me? This is the first project that I have used CS4 for other than some slide shows with still graphics.

i Who is asking here? Weren't you the one with a question and were you not the one asking for help?
Harm, yes I was asking for help and you have yet to offer any, have you? Please show me one post where you were offering any help. Your first post was obviously designed to be nasty and I have been trying to defend myself ever since.
I am sorry that you did not grasp the importance of trying to export from CS4 to see if CS4 can read its own files. (This is not my normal work-flow, although sometimes I do do this to avoid rendering an entire clip with effects that is adjoined to another clip with a transition.) But if you cannot understand why I did that after unsuccessfully trying to import CS3 dv avi footage and cs1 DV footage, I cannot possible explain it to you without a conversation with you.
If you do not have the capabilities to understand my rational for this type of problem solving and you have nothing to add but "buy a PC", please just refrain from posting on my threads. That is all that I ask. If you don't want to or cannot help, then don't post. If you think that I am an idiot and feel that it is necessary to tell me, don;t. I might not be the sharpest hatchet in the woodshed, but I do not need you to tell me this. Haven't we been to this dance before?
i Why would you want to export with AME to import again? How did you export with AME without importing first? That makes no sense. What happens when you use a more common work-flow, import the AVI into a project?
All of these questions were answered in the very first post.
i On this forum you are dependent on fellow editors to spend their time and effort to help you. If you need help, do give the relevant information. There have been a number of posts on what info is required to help us help you.
I agree, I thought that I had given the relevant information. Honestly, I forgot that the forums had been combined for Mac/Win. I erroneously assumed that this was just a windows only forum. If there is a standardized form that include all of the specs that are required for editors to help, I'd be happy to fill it out and post it in the first post of any thread that I start. Until someone takes this initiate to design a standardized form, I do not think that its too much to ask for people to ask if they think that it might be relevant or simply not post on threads where users do not provide your minimum level of information.
But I also believe that people who do decide to post should be required to attempt to be helpful. I do not believe that a post that ends with the statement that one should have purchased a PC qualifies in any way as trying to being helpful evn if it were understandable that that I was using a MAC.
Do we need to continue this? If so, I think that we are going to have to exchange phone numbers so this does not go on forever.

  • I downloaded Redear to see if it could open an old .pdf file.  Now I cannot open any .pdf files.

What is wrong with Reader?  Having loaded it I now cannot open any .pdf file in my computer or on email.

Cannot get over the impression that the fault is deliberate.  Building in the requirement for all users then loading a weak link, that drives you to purchase.
Shockwave is FREE... Flash Player is FREE.... Adobe Reader is FREE... Adobe AIR is FREE... Those four products are, and always have been, FREE... Flash Professional, which is for creating and editing Flash animation and video files, is a paid licensed product. Acrobat Professional, which is for creating and editing PDFs, is a paid licensed product. Neither Flash Player nor Adobe Reader have any links to prompt an upgrade to the professional version of software for the file format. Never have. Viewing Flash content and PDFs needs to be universally available to the public who receive such content over the Internet. Creating and editing Flash files and PDFs is not something that everyone needs, so it's only available at a cost for those who need it and choose to use Flash Pro or Acrobat.
There are Creative suites with several Adobe applications for everything from photo and graphic editing, to video editing, to making e-readers, to web design, but those are for developers of the individual media.

  • Cannot open QB 2007 file after installing R7 upgrade

I installed the Quickbooks Pro 2007 "upgrade" and then tried to open my old Quickbooks Pro 2007 for Mac company file.
1.) It asks me if I want to Upgrade the file (no choice)
2.) Then it simultaneously says "Working" and gives me a warning about the file not being able to be renamed and that I have to rename it and save it in the QB folder.
3.) Then - whatever name I give it - it says it could not create the upgraded file.
4.) It also says that it could not open the existing file.
I'm not sure what to do - the file is only 4.7MB and I've tried every combination to get it to open.
Is there some trick? Nothing about this on the Intuit Forum. Nothing on Google either.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot open my business file!

I guess what is happening is that I originally installed quickbooks and the company file on my macMini and I suspect that it is not opening it on my iMac because of a sharing violation.
I did unlock both the application and the files but they still won't open.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • [SOLVED!] WINE: libSM.so.6: cannot open shared object file= fail

    Greetings,
So today I decided I'd play an old windows game with my son. It's been a while since I've played  wine game with him... since my last reinstallthat I did just for the S&G to play with the new install method.
Anyways, I go through the motions, installing wine and all that. Then I go and click on the game to run. Nothing.
So, I go and try to run it through command line. I get this fun stuff:

Honestly, I did not know about pkgfile.
So, I installed it and determined that while I have libsm, I was missing lib32_libsm. So installing that fixed my issue with WINE.
Thanks for the leg up Trilby! Most appreciated!

  • Cannot open old appleworks/clarisworks docs

I got a new man mini, my 3.5 year old mac died. I have a lot clarisworks and appleworks docs. I cannot find appleworks or claris works on the new computer. Is is possible the computer does not come with it? If not where do I get it? And will the new program open my old docs? I see in the apple store you can buy iWorks for 80 bucks, is this what I have to do? I thought appleworks came with the old system. Is there a program that came with the computer that will open these docs?

Ok, I got iWorks09. I still cannot open documents created in 2006 with the .cwk appendage that were created in the graphics portion of the old program, I think they are called graphics docs? Anyways I have a lot of files that I created in 2006 or before for our church carnival, tickets, fliers, etc. None of these docs were created with the word processing portion of the old program, I used the graphics portion and they will not open. When I get info on the .cwk file I want to open and it says its a text doc. I know they are not text docs but this is what the computer recognizes. Am I screwed? Will I ever be able to open these files? I am able to open old .cwk files that are word processing only, no graphics

  • I download last update numbers. Now I cannot open the previous files. The screen asked to upload. How to solve this problem?

The screen  asked to donwload the new numbers program. I already have done it. I cannot open the previous files. How to solve this problem?

If by the "screen asked to upload" you mean you see a message to upgrade Numbers, then probably what is happening is that you have two versions of Numbers on your Mac, the new version in the main Applications folder and the old one in a subfolder named 'Work '09.  This is as intended.
Try opening your document with the new version of Numbers that is in the Applications folder, not the Numbers that is in the subfolder.

  • Cannot open old Pages documents

Cannot open old Pages documents after installing Yosemite. "The required index.xml file is missing." What happened?

Are you sure you are opening the new iWork apps versions? They keep the old iWork version in case you want to use it again, so you might be opening the wrong version.
Open a Finder window and choose Applications in the sidebar. Then, look for the Pages, Numbers and Keynote icons with the new icon, and open them. You should be able to open your documents without any problem.
To prevent this issue again, drag their icons to the Dock, so you can access to them easily

  • I cannot open this PDF file in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a PDF file that I could open on my Windows XP 32-bit laptop in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader.  I then upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  But now in Win7-64, I cannot open this same file using the same apps (Acrobat 8 Pro & Acrobat Reader XI).
When I try to open it in Acrobat 8, it does not load and instead a popup windows appears saying -
    Adobe Updater
Some components needed to complete this operation are missing but information about them may be available on the Adobe website. Would you like to search the Adobe website for the missing components?
And I can choose either the OK or Quit buttons.  When I click OK, a web browser starts and goes to this website -
    http://www.adobe.com/special/adobe_update_manager/?type=Filter&name=FOPN_foweb&version=0.0 .0.0&lang=en_US&os=Windows&osver=6.1.7601&appid=acrobat8pro-en_US&cpu=intel
    This webpage says -
    Adobe Update Manager
Adobe cannot locate the requested plugin. New plugins will be listed on this page. Currently there are no plugins.
So now I am stuck, no direction to go.  I am left without any solution from Adobe for Acrobat on this file.
When I try to open this PDF file in Reader, it does not load and instead a web browser is spawned loading the webpage -
    http://plugin.fileopen.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1
This is the FileOpen Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat/Reader, which prompts to -
Please click OK to download the FileOpen Plug-in Installer for Adobe Acrobat/Reader
I click on OK, download and run the Installer file, accept the terms, and installed the FileOpen Client (x64) B928.  Upon completion, it prompts to Finish.  But it does not automatically bring Reader up or try to load the file.  So I try again to load the PDF file into Reader.  But once again, the file does not load and the web browser is spawned loading the same FileOpen Plug-in Installer link.  I click OK again, and start the same FileOpen Client process.  This time, it recognizes that I have FileOpen Client installed, and the window gives me two choices, Repair or Remove.  So since I apparently need this Plug-in, I choose Repair.  The process seems to complete the Repair.  But when I try to load the file, it still brings me back to the FileOpen Plug-in webpage.  So now I am stuck again, and left without any solution from Adobe for Reader on this file.
I tried Adobe support.  But apparently Adobe does not support past releases of their products (Acrobat 8), and also does not give free support for the current version of their free products (Reader XI).
    Can this be fixed?

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.

to explain the scenario, i am basically a D7000 user and I do post production with Windows computer. But for an assignment I have hired D800, they have provided me their SD memory card. I have used the same memory card while shooting.
I have transferred the NEF files from the camera using Nikon software. The transfer was successful but i am not able to open the Raw NEF file with ACR. Even my plugins are updated till date.
The NEF thumbnails are having small lock logo in the bottom left corner. I do not know what does that mean. Like this.
Kindly let me know what would be the prob? if my RAW files are corrupted kindly let me know how will I recover them?
