Cannot open Outlook Item .msg

I have a user who cannot open Outlook items (.msg) files. If Outlook is already open I get an error saying "The Operation Failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." If Outlook is
not already running I get an error that says "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook". I've disabled all add-in's and created a new Outlook profile. I've also saved emails to the desktop and immediately tried to open them and it fails. The user
is running Outlook 2010 version 14.0.6129.5000 32bit on Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit.
The event also generates a system log Event ID 300 from source Microsoft office 14 Alerts.

First, make sure that Outlook is fully patched and see whether you can repro the issue or not. Then, let us know the following:
Where these .msg files are exist?
How these .msg files are generated?

What version of iPhoto do you have installed?  Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.  It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

We are in the middle of an Exchange 2013 migration from 2007 and this is the 2nd time I've encountered this issue.  The migrated user cannot open outlook or log into owa.  The error that is thrown in owa is below.  I cant really find any info
on this error.  Also, notice the date.  No idea where its getting that.  We've moved about 7000 users and I've seen this on two of them.  I'd appreciate any insight on this.  Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on my research, the issue can be caused by Duplicate legacyExchangeDN properties. Thus, let’s check it and remove or change it:
Check if the properties of the two problematic users is same. If it’s same, we can change the value.
If not, let’s check if there are other users who have the same value with the two users:
    Use LDP.exe to search "legacyexchangedn=/o=…”.

  • HT6114 After the latest OS X update (10.9.2) I cannot open Outlook (Office for MAC 2011). Outlook flashes briefly then nothing happens. How can I get Outlook to open?

After the latest OS X update (10.9.2) I cannot open Outlook (Office for MAC 2011).  Outlook flashes briefly but does not open.  How can I get Outlook to open?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Missing icons, cannot open menu items

Yesterday I updates my software and when I restarted my computer I encountered several problems.
    1) My hard drive icon is not shown on my desktop
    2) I cannot open anything in the menus of the "Finder" toolbar"
    3) I cannot not move or open any documents located on my desktop
    4) Most of the widgets in dashboard are not showing and those that are are not working properly.
    5) When I plug in my thumb drive nothing shows up on my desktop any more.
everything else seems to be working fine. any advise?
    thanks

First, you need to realize that resetting preferences will put them back to ground zero, not the way they were the last time you were happy.
You can try the key combination again and see if you are any faster (we're talking near instantaneous) or you can open your user profile, show hidden files and folders and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 4.0 and rename the two files InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
In your case, a better first option, I think, would be to try System Restore which you'll find in System Tools under the Programs > Accessories heading on the start menu. Go back to the first restore point before you tried to open the file, if you can.
In any case, for you to open a CS3 .inx file you will need to be fully patched the the last CS2 update, and you should expect to see some text reflow issues, as well as missing any CS3 features that the author used which aren't supported in CS2.

Can someone throw some light on this ?

    Hi Noel,
Base on my search, it may be due to IRM feature been enabled for OWA.
I recommend you use the following command to check if the value of IRMEnabled parameter is true:
    Get-OWAVirtualDirectory – Identity “servername\owa (default web site)” |FL name,IRMEnabled
If the value is true, you can use "Set-OWAVirtualDirectory" cmdlt to change it to false, and check if any helps.

  • Cannot open Public Folder item: "Not enough memory available in Exchange"

    Hi
We are running Exchange 2003 Sp2.
    I cannot open an item in a Public Folder in Outlook that holds a list of contact details - the error message is;
"Error: Cannot open this item. There is not enough memory available on Microsoft Exchange to perform this operation. Contact your system administrator"
However, I can open the Contacts using Webmail. Any ideas?

Quote: “open an item in a Public Folder in Outlook that holds a list of contact details”
The item you said, is it a distribution list? If yes, please see KB 894530

    1.       Is the issue only happened on one item in the problematic public folder?
    2.       Is the issue only happened on one public folder?

  • Error opening Outlook 2010 Contact Group

    Hi all,
We are currently in transition between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010.
We have recently migrated a user over from 2003 to 2010, but one of his Contact Groups will now not open. The error displayed is "Cannot open this item. There is not enough memory available on Microsoft Exchange to perform the operation. Contact your system
    administrator"
The user would have created this distribution list in Exchange 2003 OWA.
I have read on other forums that the distribution group is too large and to reduce the number of contacts. I can see in Outlook that the offending Contact list is 32kb in size. However, when I try to export to a .csv file it hangs Outlook and complains about
    a lack of resources.
Is there any way that I can view this Contact Group's members (on the Exchange Server) or is the data lost / corrupt and the only solution would be to re-create the group?

    Hello,
The contact groups are store on the user’s mailbox on Exchange. Since other contact groups and contacts can be opened just fine, it seems the issue
may occur if the problematic contact groups is corrupted itself.
You can take a chance to open it via MFCMAPI tool. If it even cannot be open, I think it cannot be recovered unless we do a single mailbox recovery.
    MFCMAPI.exe
