Cannot open pdf files in pdf complete

I am unable to open some files using PDF Complete that I receive from emails.  I n particular, I receive one email regularly that is password protected.  When attempting to open it, I receive an error messaging that reads:  "The selected document cannot be opened"   This particular file does not allow me an option to right-click and open in Adobe Reader either,.  Is there a way to disable PDF Complete and open some other way or what other advice do you have?  Thank you!

Okay, try this instead:
Launch Adobe Reader and go to Preferences (Command-K).
Select the Internet category and look for a checkbox on the right that says: Display PDF in browser using:… and uncheck the box if it's checked.
Close Preferences window and Quit Adobe Reader.
Now, Quit Safari if it's running.
Open your HD and go to HD/Applications/Safari.
Control-click on Safari and choose Show Package Contents.
Double-click on the Contents folder; inside is a group of other folders. If you see one labeled Frameworks, send it to the Trash and then close the window.
Also, go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and look through the list to see if you have one labeled "PDF Browser Plugin"; if not, that's good, so don't install one. If you do have one, remove it to your Desktop or the Trash, but don't empty the Trash yet.
Relaunch Safari and try to view a PDF again; post again with results.

  • Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow......

I have an email with an attachment that requires a password the open.  I can open the file but embedded in the attachment is another attachment.  When I double click attachment I get the following error message.  Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.

You would need to make a change to your registry; see http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AppSec/attachments.html
Basically you would need to add the .pdf with the permission 2.
Let us know if you need help with that.  Either way, make sure to create a System Restore Point before editing the registry.

  • Creating PDF through Adobe PDF print - Cannot open this file?

    Hello!
I have a user who I recently installed Acrobat X on their machine.  They are in a program called DSS and he when he goes to file --> Print and then selects Adobe PDF he gets errors when converting a map into a pdf.  It shows the Creating Adobe PDF box and has a progress bar.  Then an error box says Acrobat Distiller:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10\Acrobat\.......
    Cannot open this file.
Please check that the correct path and filename are given.
Magically it converts but the problem is with the errors and sometimes the conversion isnt accurate. What port does this need to be on becuae I notices it defaults to COM1???
Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Please have the user post, we need much more information. Operating System, Service Package, 32-bit/64-bit. If 64-bit is the program 32-bit or 64-bit native? Version of the program DSS.  What kind of program is DSS and who makes it? Googling DSS doesn't help much since there are several choices.

  • Cannot convert .tif file to .pdf in IE when I have an Abode Reader window open

Cannot convert .tif file to .pdf in IE when I have an Abode Reader window open.

Cannot convert .tif file to .pdf in IE when I have an Abode Reader window open.
I have a .pdf file open in Adobe Reader that is on my works P:/ drive. Then I open a .tif file from a website in Windows Phone and Fax Viewer and  Right click it and select "Convert to Adobe PDF".  I get the following message
Adobe Reader could not open "filename.tif" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has not been damaged (For example, it was sent as a an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
I have a work around for this.  Simply closing the Adobe Reader that was previously opened and the attempting to "Convert to Adobe PDF" will then work properly.  Was wondering if there was a fix to this issue beacuse it is frustrating to always have to close my other .pdf files to do this action.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot Open Attachments within a pdf document

    Dear Staff,
In my windows 7 netbook I can open files attached to  PDF documents is there a reason why I cannot open these files within windows 8.1 RT with the adobe Reader Touch? is there any setting to adjust to have this function active or Adobe Reader touch do not have this function at all?
Is the adobe reader touch staff working on this?
I am a music teacher and those attachments are very important for me.
Thank you in advance for your help

Adobe Reader Touch does not support file attachments.
Adobe Reader Touch is a relatively new product.  Our product management team determines which features/enhancements/updates to add based on customer feedback and the usage data collected from other mobile Adobe Reader products (e.g. Reader for iOS/Android).
While Adobe Reader for iOS/Android supports file attachments, the usage data indicates that file attachments are rarely used.  So it is not clear if or when the feature will be supported in Adobe Reader Touch.
Since your operating system is Windows RT 8.1, you will not be able to install and run Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI).  Because Adobe Reader XI is not compatible with Windows RT.
Microsoft Reader (the built-in PDF viewer) does not seem to support file attachments, either.
One thing that you could try is to open the PDF document with attachments in Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, save the attachments as separate files, and transfer the files from your Windows 7 notebook to your Windows RT 8.1 notebook/tablet using a cloud storage service (e.g. SkyDrive, Dropbox, Acrobat.com, etc.)
It's not ideal.  But it's one way to work around the lack of the feature. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Hi,
Thanks for reporting the issue; we would like to reproduce it at our end. Please give in the below information to investigate on this,
    1. The Linux distribution (Version of Linux) you are using.
    2. Are you opening the pdf from shared location? If yes, then how is the shared location mounted.
It would help if you can send in the pdf you are trying to open. Please email the same to vaibhavp at adobe dot com or attach it on the forum.

  • Can't open pdf file with pdf.xml file extension

    Hi
I can't open a file with pdf.xml extension. Does anyone have this problem? How did you resolve it?

Actually, the extension is just .xml. Anything before the period doesn't count as part of the extension.
Your browser may be able to open it, if not see here ---->XML File (What It Is & How To Open One)

  • How do I resolve the issue Cannot open the file ".indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file for

How do I resolve the issue Cannot open the file ".indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing , or the file may be open in another application?

Shouldn't the CC version be able to open any file created in an older version on InDesign?
    Yes, it ought to.
If the older file wasn't yours (if someone emailed it to you,or burned it on a disc, or whatever), then I am almost willing to bet you a beverage in the city of your choice that it's not a complete InDesign file. That is, maybe it was zipped and renamed, or the beginning or end of the file was chopped off during download, or something like that. The only reason I'm not actually making the bet is that there is a remote chance that I'd lose, and maybe you're in Adelaide or Khabarovsk or somewhere where the cost of airfare to me would make that bet a very expensive bet for me to to lose. So no latte for you if I'm wrong!
The script that Jongware posted will tell you what version of InDesign made the file to begin with. Additionally, if someone did something like rename YourFile.PDF to YourFIle.INDD, it'll report that it's Not An InDesign File. Because while SpectrumPCS is kinda right and that message can be generated when attempting to open a CS5 file in CS3 or whatever, it also spits out the same message when you just try to open an Autocad file, or a Windows system file, or a PDF, or any file that InDesign actually cannot open at all.

  • Error Message: There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot open this file because a task is still active in Acrobat.

I've tried Command Q to close;  Tried Adobe Reader Tool Bar but closing is grayed out;  I'ved held the power button for hard close, but everytime I try to open a .pdf I get this message:
There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot open this file because a task is still active in Acrobat.
I'm not extremely technical, but I can follow directions if someone can help!
    Thanks

    Looks like it got stuck.
You can switch to another program or the Finder (click on desktop) and Apple menu > Force Quit > Adobe
You can press and hold the power button, it's a emergency force shutdown which you can boot normally and it should be fine.

  • Cannot open .wmf files in CS 5.5 InDesign

I Receved the following message; Cannot open the file logo.wmf. Adobe InDesign may not support the file format a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be open in another application; which it is not.  I am lookinig for a solution; so I can do my online InDesign class.

You should not use a WMF file anyway in InDesign, try to get a PDF, AI or EPS version, then place this file. WMF is supposed for office printer to use in Word or other Office programs, not for high end print production or PDF creation at all.
If you get a PDF version, don't ise any which was converted from the WMF file!

  • Indesign cannot open "old files" CS6.

I was supposed to do a few adjustments in a project, i have opened it before and been working in it alot.. (2 months since last time i was working with this project) When i was supposed to do some minor fixes etc on this project yesterday i cannot open the file. The project it self are only on 8900 kB. What to do???? I can open my recently "newly" made and used projects.... Ive tryed some other projects that was also old, all between 2-6 months.. And it is just randomly witch i can open and witch i "Cannot open"..
This is the error for CS6.
This is the error for CS 5.5.
If you got some suggestions scream out! Will try it all that have worked before.. (If someone have had this same problem atleast!)
    Sincerely,
    David

First, a tip: Try manually breaking the links to the file by moving that document you want to open to your desktop or another directory or such and then try opening them... (corrupt image previews and/or images can then be largely elminated as a potential cause)
As @Peter mentioned, we (Markzware - link here to how that works) can likely fix this file. Interesting notes from @jongware above. Without having seen this file, our research shows there are various reasons an InDesign file can head south and corrupt or crash on you. Just like a doctor can not always say what caused the problem, there are some basic steps we all should take. For instance, OS up to date, InDesign using the latest update available, enough disk space and scartch disk space for heavy Adobe design operations. Here is a list of some of the most common issues with bad INDD documents:
    * Corrupt Font(s) (or corrupt font caches - see below)
    * Corrupt Image(s)
    * Power Failure
    * Placing images via drag-and-drop from an Internet page
    * Working on an InDesign file over a network or on a remote server
Here is a video on how to tackle the font caches of InDesign, which is good to do once and a while anyway:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf5ZuiaYgus
For checking individual font files (fonts are like mini apps really), we recommend either FontExplorer XPro or Extensis Suitcase Fusion 4, with the later perhaps the more popular of the two.
You can contact me on [email protected] if you need assistance with us trying to recover your bad InDesign CS file further. We also have a PDF to InDesign conversion tool called PDF2DTP if you have a PDF.
    Friendly Regards,
    David Dilling of Markzware
