Cannot open PDF in Modal window

Hi,
I am trying to execute the reports and open the pdf file in a showModalDialog window, but I get only blank screen. Basically, I want to open the PDF in modal window so that the URL value is not stored or displayed in the screen..
Is there any setting required or is pdf not supported in modal windows?
Has anyone faced such problem.
Thanks & Regds,
Nandakumar

As others have said.....first, go to Finder > Preferences and make sure the checkbox is deselected for "open folders in tabs instead of new windows".
Any folder can be opened in a new window by holding down the Command Key while double-clicking the folder. But sooner or later you will forget to hold down that key, and then a folder will open in a tab (which will probably resize the window and cause much aggravation and cursing).
If you're like me and don't like tabs very much, there is a way to make folders always open in windows with a simple double-click. (I'm using Mavericks 10.9.5).  Go to any folder on the Desktop, open it, and select View > Hide Toolbar. After that, all folders within that folder will open in a new window. I tried this with the Macintosh HD Folder (which I put on my Desktop) and all folders within it open in new windows with only a double-click.
Of course, you will lose the sidebar and the toolbar, so it's not a perfect solution, but at least you'll be done with tabs.

  • Cannot open pdf with IE/ windows 7.

Dear friends, and those who understand better than I.  I have been working on this situation for over a week.  I cannot open pdf from the browser.  I tried the "patch " as discussed in a different forum, but still only get the link to open in a seperate white blank page.  Any ideas?  I dont mind going back to an older version other than 10.1.2. I just dont know how to do that either, as I have not had to work this in depth with any software for years.

Thanks for responding to this matter.  When I double click the link to open the pdf... a new tab opens with a blank screen.  It is white.  When I try to refresh, nothing happens.  I have also tried to save/download the file, and open it through that way.  When asked to save the document "pdf" is not available.  Only "all files."  However when I try to retrieve it, it says download is not available, as in... it did not download or save.
    1.  All web browser options are selected.  I have already tried to uncheck, one, and all of these boxes.  Still the same results.
    2.  I have tried several URL... All of the documents I have tried to retrieve have been within a secured website, such as salliemae.com (trying to view a 1098 for my student loan), and mycheckfree.com (trying to view bills from ComED and Nicor Gas).
If I open an old pdf on my computer... I can still read that.
Thank you for your time and help.  Im so frustrated, and missing deadlines!

  • Updated Acrobat X, now I cannot open pdfs in IE (windows 7)

I can open them while using Chrome, but not Internet Explorer.
I just updated Acrobat X this afternoon and since the update it won't work.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Windows does not know that it should start Firefox to open those links.
Try this first. Start IE (yes I know) and set it as the default browser. After
close IE. Wait a few moments, then start Firefox. Then set FF as your default.

Why the question marks? Can you open PDF files or not? You don't need Firefox to open PDF files.

  • I downloaded adobe Reader XI sucessfully for Windows but I cannot open pdfs.

I downloaded adobe Reader XI sucessfully for Windows but I cannot open pdfs.
    Any suggestions?

I am able to open them now, but I have to open the program first and then open the file through that. This doesn't make sense why I can't just open by clicking on the file.

  • After activating "Click-to-play" plug-ins, I cannot open pdf files.

In the latest release of Firefox, information about how to prevent plug-ins from loading automatically was in the release notes. I activated this in about:config. (Click-to-play).
After that, I cannot open pdf files! When I click on a link all I get is an empty window. Reloading page don't help.
What I can do, is to click on the button next to the awesome bar and set that plug-ins will always load automatically for this page. Then the pdf file loads.
Another work around is to copy the link and paste it in IE.
Is this a bug with "click-to-play"?

Thanks cor-el. I have read the various bug reports and it is indeed the same. Has been known for a while...
Anyway, I find no mention of the work-around: "Click on the button next to the awesome bar and set that plug-ins will always load automatically for this page."
I don't know if there is a place to give that feedback.

  • Cannot open pdf files with Firefox's built-in pdf viewer

This just started (I think) with Firefox 37.01. This is on Win7-X64. I cannot open pdf files with the Firefox built-in pdf viewer. If I click on the file or try to open it from within Firefox, it brings up a "opening filename.pdf" message. If I select the "Open with" radio button as 'Firefox (default),' it just keeps looping on this process; it never opens. In Tools => Options => Applications, Portable Document Format (PDF) is indicated as 'Preview in Firefox.' I've never had any other PDF viewer installed on this computer. I've tried disabling all plug-ins and extensions, but it still doesn't work. I searched for solutions but haven't found any for this specific issue.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
Have you tried, to start Firefox in safemode you can do so by following these steps
'''If Firefox is open,''' you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
'''If Firefox is not running,''' you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

Microsoft upgraded Hotmail e-mail accounts to Outlook.com
The Print Screen key has no function.....when the 2 boxes mentioned above appear on the monitor (which I have detailed) they require action or I cannot proceed to another screen or function.

  • Cannot open pdf files

I cannot open pdf files from the internet.  I just get a small white cross in a black background in the top left hand corner of the screen.  This is not just from one website but happens with all.  Advice please.  I am using Windows 7 Home Premium and Internet Explorer as the browser and have the latest Adobe.

    Richvan2, welcome to the forum.
The first thing you should do is run your antivirus program.  It could be a virus.
Then, you should download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It may be a glitch in the current version on your computer.

  • Cannot open pdf's from internet

I installed Adobe reader but found it wasn't necessary. After uninstalling it I cannot open pdf's from the internet. When I try all that opens is a blank screen. How can I fix this?

Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

  • Error opening PDF file, using Windows Vista

When I first purchased my new pc, regrettably, I was given Windows Vista. There have been a lot of problems. Of late, Adobe Reader gives me an error message when I try to open a downloaded file. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader but with no success. Could this be a Vista security issue? I can download and read the file on my work computer which used Windows XP. Also, this problem getting an error message opening and reading a file just recently occurred. I haven't made any changes to my system except automatic program updates. Can you help me?

I stumbled on a solution: Download the PDF file and instead of saying yes to open the file (because you know you'll get the error message), simply go to where you saved the file (i.e. AOL downloads) and open it there. I have no idea why I suddenly cannot open PDF files but at least I found a way to still get my information. Hope this helps.

  • Cannot open .pdfs in Firefox

My wife's machine is running Windows 8.1, Firefox 34.0.5 and Adobe Acrobat X Standard. Cannot open .pdfs in the browser. Clicking a link to a .pdf will open a new tab that immediately closes, leaving me right back where I was, as if I had never clicked the link. I can right click, then Save As, download the file and open in Adobe Acrobat X. But that's not what I want, and not how it was designed.
Internet Explorer 11 opens .pdfs in the environment described above, in-browser, with no problems.
I've followed all the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972278 and http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html. Neither Mozilla's nor Adobe's instructions can get me up and running.
As a nuclear option, I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat, restarted the machine, uninstalled Firefox, restarted the machine, re-installed Adobe Acrobat, restarted the machine, and re-installed Firefox, and restarted the machine. Attempting to open any .pdf yields the same result, even after uninstalling and re-installing everything. What's going on here? Why does Firefox open a blank tab, and then close it right away? Block pop-ups is set to off, and antivirus pop-up blocking is disabled.
My own machine running Windows 7, Firefox 34.0.5, and Adobe Acrobat X Standard opens .pdfs in-browser just fine, with no problems.
Any advice? I'm pulling my hair out!! Thanks for your time.

    Hey,
    Try the following:
    * Go to setting (3 bars) > options > applications.
    * Under applications panel.
    * Find Portable Document Format (PDF) in the list and click on it to select it.
    * Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column for the above entry and select Use PDF reader name (in Firefox) or preview in firefox.
If PDF files are still downloaded instead of displayed, try these solutions
    Reset download actions
    * Open your profile folder:
Click the menu button[[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help[[Image:Help-29]]and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
Click the menu button[[Image:New Fx Menu]]and then click Exit [[Image:Close 29]]
    Delete the mimetypes.rdf file.
Then open firefox again and see.
    I hope it helps.
