Cannot open Photoshop CS5 with Yosemite

I was so upset when I couldn't open Photoshop. I then saw that I needed to upgrade to Legacy Java SE 6- I can't find it ANYWHERE. I upgraded to the latest Java from the Apple site, and it STILL won't allow Photoshop to open.
Then IO read that someone said to re-install Photoshop - which I did. It STILL does not open.
I am infuriated that Apple would let this upgrade to Yosemite go through without checking that Photoshop would work with the new OS. I am so angry- I am losing business every day that I can't open photoshop!
If anyone has an answer to this problem, I will be forever in your debt.

No, but it shows you the problem is on your side if it is working fine for others. It is not Apple's fault. Adobe had access to all beta releases of Yosemite to get their compatibility right, which, as far as I can see, they did. Perhaps you have other third part anti-virus or security or cleanup programs installed that are notorious for conflicting with a healthy Mac. You can try posting an etrecheck report for analysis as many others have done and solved their issues.

  • Upgrade compatible Adobe Photoshop CS5 with Yosemite?

I have upgrade my MacPro to Yosemite and now Photoshop CS5 does not work.  Recommendations for compatible upgrade for CS5?

Wow, I hadn't realized Adobe was going to keep the upgrade offer from Photoshop CS5 12.x to CS6 13.0 open after Photoshop CC 14.0 was released.

  • Cannot open Photoshop CS5.1

Hi.  I have a Mac running OS X version10.7.5.  I have Photoshop Elements 8 and 9 installed. They work fine.  I also have Photoshop CS5.1 installed.  It worked fine for a number of months until yesterday.  Now, it will not open.  I re-installed from the disk, and went throught the whole process, and it said "Done".  However when I double-click the icon I get the spinning color wheel for a second or two, and the icon blinks, but nothing opens.  I restarted my machine, but that didn't solve anything - I got the same result.  I sure would appreciate any help you can provide.  Thanks.

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Cannot Open Photoshop CS5

I have been talking to PS Tech.Serv. for a week and they have no solution. I installed PS CS5. When I try to open Photoshop or Bridge I get a message, "This application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application. I have Windows XP. HELP!

Thank you for offering the fine advice. Unfortunately that is not the answer
for this problem. I thought I was all alone until with this problem until I
got a lead from David Herman to check out this link:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/630771?tstart=30
It appears that it's all in the old processor. I've been talking to my
computer geek and decided to do what I've been thinking about for the past
year. A separate computery dedicated to Photoshop CS5 and all the plug-ins
    that I want.
My present computer will keep the CS3 and Autocad that I use along with
a`tie in to that great big dangerous world of the internet. My new computer
shall be the alter to the great god Adobe.
My only question right now is, "Why does Adobe Tech. Service in India still
not know what I'm talking about if this problem has been going on for weeks
and weeks?" After three phone conversations with them, lasting at least
an`hour or more, they have never responded back as they promised to do.

  • I cannot open dmg files with Yosemite

So installed Yosemite. All seemed fine but
I now cannot open dmg files. If I double click on them, nothing happens. If I say open with "diskimagemounter" nothing happens. If I say open with Disk Utility it says wrong version of Disk Utility. If I move them back to a computer with Mavericks, they open fine. Repaired permissions and no change.
    What do I do please?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Download and reinstall the 10.10.1 update.

  • Why can't I open Photoshop CS5 with OSX Mavericks?

I download OSX9 the other day and I have found that some programs do not open. Today it is Photoshop CS5. Is there a trick to get it open besides an upgrade to CS5, which apparently is not currently available!

I would appreciate some help please. I have uninstalled and then re-installed the program, but I get the same message.

    Please clarify and specify:
What file?  A program file or an image file?  What error message are you getting?
What platform, Mac or Win?  What exact version of CS5 (e.g. CS5 12.1)?  Has it worked before and now you have a new issue?  Or has it always been like this?

    Any suggestions?

You should check with Adobe, but it's likely they'll say that Photoshop CS5 isn't supported on Yosemite and they'll recommend you update to a new CC version, which of course requires a subscription.
It could be that Photoshop requires a Java installation (and probably an old one), that isn't running on Yosemite by default. Java 6 is not "new," it's in fact very old. I do think you can download Java 6 from Apple - check apple.com/support/downloads.

Adobe's software is a mess in terms of the fact that it's sprayed all over the place and may not survive an OS upgrade.  Try reinstalling Photoshop CS5.

  • Today after a long time I tired to open photoshop CS5.1 on my mac, however it has vanished?

Today after a long time I tired to open photoshop CS5.1 on my mac, however it has vanished and I am unable to find it anywhere on my system. I have recently done an update to my system so am unsure if this has affected it in anyway but the only thing I am able to find in Adobe Utilities is an uninstall option? I have tried reopening old saved psd files but these only open up preview. The photoshop I owned was a student version so am unsure if this has something to do with it going away ? Is there a way to get it to come back at all with out having to buy it again?

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall.

  • Open Photoshop CS5 and CS6

I can't open Photoshop CS5 and CS6 versions simultaneously. When I launch CS6, and then CS5, it takes me to CS6, and vice versa.
Is it possible to keep open the two versions? With Indesign I can do it.

As far as I know that is normal behavior:  only one instance of Photoshop at a time.   Forum members have reported running two versions of Photoshop simultaneously using virtual machines on their computer (which emulate separate computers).
