Cannot Open PSD in FW9

I've been able to open Photoshop files in FW9 before with all
the layers intact. But, for some reason, I'm trying to open a PSD
file in FW and it keeps opening as a flattened bitmap. The PSD file
is 16-bit (not 32). Any ideas on how I can get this PSD to open
with all its layers intact?
Thanks,
Ron

No problem, Ron. In the Fireworks Beta, integration has been
improved,
but Adjustment Layers and Smart Objects are still not
supported. Smart
Objects come in as flattened bitmaps, Adjustment layers are
ignored
unless you bring in the file as a flat file. On the upside,
the Beta now
supports the opening of Layer comps (1 at a time) and text is
much
better. PS vectors are also handled better too.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite now I cannot open PSD files on illustrator. Please help

I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac and now when I open Illustrator I cannot open psd files. The error message I get when I open illustrator is "Error Loading Plugins. PhotoshopImport.aip"
Is there a fix for this? I cannot afford to upgrade my CS4 at this time.
    Thanks.

Thanks Larry - the issue is that I need to keep all of the layers (there are a lot of them) and when I save as pdf it flattens the image. Is there no way to be able to open PSD files now that I upgraded to Yosemite?
    Thanks again.

  • Cannot open psd file in Illustrator

One of my users is getting one of two errors when she tries to open a psd in Illustratror CS5.  One error say "Cannot open the illustration",  the other error says "The file filename.psd is in an uknown format and cannot be opened."  Furthermore, she is unable to use the "Place"  function in Illustrator.  This appears to be profile specific.  When I log on to her machine as myself.  I am able to open all *.psd files.  She claims that everything was working fine a week ago.  No changes have  been made to the system.
Thanks in advance for any help

I would say it is a permissions problem.
Obviously Illustrator cannot access the file so it does not know what you want it to do.
Try repairing the permissions, make certain she has not locked the files on her account
and try this as well but only in her account.
    Mac
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
    PC
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/
    (user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
But her permissions have to be repaired if it can't be done by the utility then manually

  • Cannot open PSD or TIFF files in Camera Raw

I made a picture in HRD Pro, and i want to work on it. I saved it as a .psd and also as a .tif, but I cannot open nor the .psd, nor the .tif in Camera Raw? If I save it as a .Jpg I already lose quality..?

    PSD files in Camera Raw:
1.— Stay the heck away from Bridge!
2.— Instead of right-clicking on anything, go to Photoshop's File menu and Select the Open menu item.
In the dialog box that opens, find your PSD file, select it, then go down to the bottom of the box and select Camera Raw in the dropdown menu next to Format:
    TIFF files in Camera Raw:
Just make sure to enable TIFF support in Camera Raw Preferences, then open it like you open any JPEG or raw file:

  • Photoshop CC 2014 Cannot open .psd file because it's not a "photoshop document"

    Right, straight to the case,
I was working on a very important file at work. I kept saving it at .psd (photoshop), then I also saved it as .esp and .pdf, just to be able to open then in AI.
Anyhow, after some saving, I had the .psd file ready and done so I closed it. Wen't to open it later to find out the it's not a photoshop document.
I've tried to repair it but even the repair apps can't read it. I'm 100% sure i saved it as .psd
Does anyone have a clue here of what could of have happen to it?
This is how it looks like on "finder"
The file is nearly 300MB large.. so there must be something in it? any help would be MUCH appreciated

My first thought is retrieving a backup copy via Time Machine if you set that up.
Krita is a free app that I have seen open Photoshop files that even Photoshop could not open. There you may find the problem layer or flatten it.

  • Cannot open psd file

Yesterday I was working in photoshop cs6 on a Psd file. It was 140 mb and when I tried to save it at 93 % it crashed. When I'm now trying to open it says "There was a problem reading the layer data. Read the composite data instead?" I click Read composite data but then it says "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." And after pressing ok it doesn't do anything?

The file is corrupt on disk because of the crash.
Odds are that you won't be able to recover that file, but should go to your backups or the auto-saved version.

  • Photoshop cannot open PSD

I am a high school art teacher and this happened to one of my students. He was working on a PSD file, vectoring an image when PS6 quit unexpectedy. Now when we try to open the file there is an error message "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." It still has the .psd extension. We are using Mac OS10.8.2. I tried opening it in Illustrator, Preview and Graphic Coverter without success.
Any thoughts on how to get it to open would be appreciated.
    Kerri

I'm sorry to bear the bad news that corrupted PSD files can almost never be recovered.
Does the student have any backup copies?
Most folks who use Photoshop for a while begin to realize that saving into multiple different master files is a good practice.  I suppose Time Machine could be helpful in this case as well.
Is it Photoshop CS6?  I ask because that version is supposed to recover a document lost to a crash on the next run of Photoshop.  It automatically saves backup copies from time to time.

  • Photoshop cs4 - Can't open .psd files in Bridge

I cannot open .psd files in Bridge, only .jpg and .tif, as far as I know.  The .psd files are flattened--no layers.  What's wrong?

Generated in PS cs4...always starting with a .jpg, working on it, then saving as .psd.
I open Bridge, navigate to the file I want to work on.  The round icon that is for opening files in Camera Raw is grayed out.  It IS available for .jpg and .tif files.  If I go to the File menu in the upper left, there is no option to open the .psd file in Bridge.  If I just click Open, the file will open in the default program I use for quickly viewing all photos (Irfanview).
Thinking also about the reply from 2.rob...
I hope I don't need to designate .psd files to always open in Photoshop in order to get this to work.  I have all photo types set to Open for quick viewing in Irfanview, which I like very much. Often I want to look at a .psd file w/o opening Photoshop, which takes a while to load.

  • Can't open psd files from Bridge CS6

Had both CS4 and CS6 installed, CS4 Bridge added itself when I wanted just CS6 Bridge, so uninstalled CS4.  Now cannot open psd files from SC6 Bridge.  What do I do?.

What is Bridge doing when you try to open the PSD file?  Do you get a warning, does nothing happen?  Did you open the preferences in CS6 bridge and set the file opening preferences to make sure they are set to PS CS6?

  • CS 6 opening PSD Files

I have Windows 8 64bit and CS6. I cannot open PSD files in camera raw from Bridge or Explorer.
    Any suggestions please

ACR opens raw, JPEG or TIFF files if set this way under the assumption that those files come from a camera. It doesn't open PSD files since this is a processing format.

  • When I downloaded CC, I uninstalled CS5 and CS6, now I cannot open my older psd

When I downloaded CC, I uninstalled CS5 and CS6, now I cannot open my older psd photos, has anyone else had this problem...

Your info is at best vague. PSD files are compatible across versions on a very broad level, so whatever problem you have may be very specific. You have not provided any relevant technical info about your system or your files, so nobody can say anything specific, though.

  • Cannot open 2.04GB .psd file

I spend hours on end creating an image.  Mainly out of ignorance, saved it as a .psd instead of a .psb.  Now I can't open it.  I have looked through every forum discussion i can find, but no success.  I repeatedly get an error message, "could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document."
I will be very grateful for a solution.

    Photoshop CS4 Extended, ver 11.0

Hate to say it, but it sounds like somehow you've managed to find a way to save a PSD file that's just over the 2 GB limit.
How many bytes is the file size on disk, exactly?
If you want to try to find a way to post a 2 GB file online, someone else could try to open it for you using a different version of Photoshop then re-save it as a PSD.  Alternatively, you could try downloading trial versions of Photoshop (or Photoshop elements) and try.  I have no idea whether there's hope in that, but if I were you I'd be looking for other software that can open that file.
Would having a flattened version of that file be helpful?  There are other tools - e.g., IrfanView (for PC) - out there that can open PSD files.

  • I cannot open a file from LR5 into CC2014 unless it is a smart object. also will not save back to LR at all it gives me an error message "Line: 1 -   photoshop.notifyLightroomDocClosed ('lightroom-2.0', 'B53AFA39-A49B-4709-A9BD-0B6467C175C3', 'Macintosh H

I cannot open a file from lightroom into CC2014 unless I open it as a smart object. CC opens, just will not display my image. i am given an error code when I save an image, and can only save to my desktop or other locations, not automatically back into my lightroom.
I am using LR5 latest update, as well as CC2014
    Below is the error message:
    Line: 1 ->  photoshop.notifyLightroomDocClosed ('lightroom-2.0', 'B53AFA39-A49B-4709-A9BD-0B6467C175C3', 'Macintosh HD:Users:BPexposures:Desktop:_DSC5962 as Smart Object-1.psd');

I was also having this issue, and I did some more searching and found this answer in the Adobe forums: Re: Photos from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop CC (2014) and back.... The issue appears to be caused by having not updated Lightroom to the latest version prior to having CC2014 installed (wow that's stupid). The trick seems to be to uninstall Photoshop CC2014 and to then reinstall it after having upgraded to Lightroom 5.5.

  • Bridge CC - Cannot Open Files following Uninstall of Previous Version

I recently updated to Creative Cloud (Windows 7). Today I unstalled CS6. Following the uninstall, I can no longer open a .psd, .ai or .indd file from Bridge CC. I receive an error from Windows that the CS5 version of Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign cannot be found (see example below). I can open the files directly from the CC application. I can also open .psd files from Mini Bridge.
RAW files (.cr2) open in ACR without problem.
I can open a .psd directly from Windows Explorer into Photoshop; the same with .ai files in Illustrator and .indd files in InDesign.
    I cleared my Bridge cache.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Because it is correctly programmed to follow your specific, express instructions you set as far as file associations.
As far as other applications of any of the suites, well…
Here's my boilerplate text in this regard:
Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.

  • Cannot open file from Bridge after saving in Photoshop CS3

I was working on three images in Photoshop CS3, when I went to open them from Bridge for review, two of three files were reduced to tiny white squares with a dogear in the top right corner, a little blue bounding box containing three tinier red green and blue somethings so small I couldn't even see what they were with my jewellery spec.
Nothing happened when I clicked on them, no error message, nothing. I managed to get one of them in 'reveal' - which opened up a larger blue bounded box with the red button containing a cross with the message 'cannot open as not right kind of file'.
What to do please? I don't want to spend hours on an image and hope it will open afterwards. Thankyou.

Thankyou for taking the time to respond. I did notice that I'd forgotten to place a . after the file name and before the extension - ie soiphotopsd, instead of soiphoto.psd, and renamed them and the opened as psds. I would have thought that Photohop CS3 with all it's bells and whistles could have provided a helpful popup/error message to this effect when saving images though!
I still have an old file I haven't been able to open, the icon of which is simply a small blue and white box with the letters pmg on the bottom. I tried to rename the file same as, but nothing seemed to work so far. Will just keep plugin away - forgive the pun.
    Thanks again.
