Cannot open rebuilt library wrong version of iPhoto

We have Mac OS X 10.3.9. We rebuilt the iphoto library. When we try to open iPhoto, we get a message that the library was built with iPhoto 6.0.6, but the only application we can find on our computer is version 5.0.4. When we review the updates installed, we should have the newer version on the computer. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When we review the updates installed,
How are you doing this?

I just downloaded Ilife 9 and now my Iphoto doesn't open. The error message says: You cannot open your library using this version. Quit and use the older version. What can I do?

iLife '09 is not available as a download - it is only available as a purchase
iLife '11 is available as a DVD purchase and the compoments of it are available from the App Store (iPhoto '11 (version 9.1.5), etc)
Exactly what did you do? And exactly what does the error message say?
On the surface it appears that you are attemptying to open a new library with an older version (iPhoto '09 can not open an iPhoto '11 library for example)

  • Cannot open my library. iPhoto says I opened it before with a newer version which is not true.

Cannot open my library. iPhoto says I opened it before with a newer version which is not true. I am using Snow Leopard and iPhoto 7.1.5 which seems to be the latest update. How can I reach my photos? I don't particually care for iPhoto anymore since I am using Lightroom now, but I would very much like to reach my picture files, HELP

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Cannot open Photo.library of other Mac User.

Running Yosemite, and Photos 1.0 (Dutch version). As advised elsewhere, in order to allow Photo library being used by 2 users of same MAC, I created a 3rd 'shared data' user, to put shared Photo data. So with 1 of the users on MAC, I imported (old) iPhoto library in Photos, went fine, and copied the Photo.library file on the 'shared data' folder under folder Pictures. I created proper authorizations for both users to access this library. Now from the user by which I created this net Photo.library, I can open this library OK, but from the other user (same authorizations) I cannot open the library, error is 'Photo cannot restore permission'. I run the checkdisk program, run the program to restore permissions, but did not help. When I try to open this library on the 'shared data' user's folder from Finder, error says it cannot import pictures from the library. Thanks for advice.

2 disks, and buy a software to backup one disk to the seagate raid 1 ... sounds complicated to me, TimeMachine can't backup network disks. Fact is though that I can access the foto library from 1 other user on the MAC, so it isn't so that accessing other user's  library doesn't work. But it only works for 1 user apparently. Clearly not very well thought through by Apple.

Unless you upgrade the OS and then iPhoto, not a lot, I'm afraid.

  • Fatal error C1083: Cannot open type library file: '..\..\bin\TsAdpApi.tlb': No such file or directory

    Hi Folks:
I am doing one Dll file for TestStand , and got an error : d:\teststand3.5\teststand 3.5\examples\modaldialogs\mfc\tsapivc.h(18) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open type library file: '..\..\bin\TsAdpApi.tlb': No such file or directory
Could anyone help me out of that ??
    Thanks in advance !

This type library for the adapter API is embedded in the teapi.dll. If you are using Visual Studio.NET, there is an attribute called tlbid that you can use with the #import directive in order to import that embedded library (see the MSDN documentation for more details). For example:
    #import tlbid(2)
In VC++ 6.0, there is no way to import embedded type libraries. Therefore, you must use the attached type library file (.tlb) with the #import directive. For example:
    #import "TsAdpApi.tlb"

Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?

wmv is a Windows Media format.  I don't know why Realplayer is coming into it since that deals primarily with Real format files and maybe a few generic formats.
    You need
    Free Flip4mac QuickTime player components - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.
or play the files with VLC
VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything.
While you're at it you might install:
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
Perian doen't do WMV but it's handy to get many things to play in Quicktime.
Note, if these are protected WMV, nothing on a Mac will play those (unless you also have Windows installed).

  • Will I be able to open a library from version 1.5.6 with Aperture 3.1.2?

I have two computers, one running Aperture version 1.5.6 and another running Aperture 3.1.2.  Question is will I be able to open my library from version 1.5.6 with version 3.1.2.  The computer that is running the early version is dying on me.
    Thanks.

When you access the old library with 3 it will upgrade the library before opening it. Make sure you have a backup of the library before accessing it with 3 just in case.
Also be aware once the library is updated it will no longer be accessible from Aperture 1.5.6 and there is no way to reverse the upgrade.

  • Palm TX crashing - line 942 Cannot Open Calendar library

For the last few weeks my Palm TX is crashing almost every other day.  I can not find and easily recreate the problem, but when system crashes is usually when I try to access Calendar via hard button.  Since I am also running "Reset Doctor" this is the message that is being recorded:
"DatebookUI.c, Line: 942, Cannot Open Calendar library"
Appreciate any feedback and maybe some points how to correct this problem.
    Andrew

As with most problems that occur on a Palm PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)
    Hope this has helped,

  • Cannot open aperture library in iPhoto

I recently opened an old iPhoto library in Aperture. This changed the file extension, and presumably the file structure. Libraries are supposed to be interchangeable between the two apps, but now I get the following message when I try to open the libary in iPhoto: "To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it." I'm running Aperture 3.4.5 and iPhoto 9.4.3. I've repaired permissions and rebuilt the database (and whatever the third option was when Aperture is launched with Command-Option). Any suggestions?

    Stephen,
the problem is probably an inconsistent DateModelVersion.plist file in the Aperture Library.
If the library cannot be repaired, try to restore this file from your backup, from a time when the library could be opened in iPhoto. If you have Code installed, you can try to edit the file manually.

  • I cannot open any library from iPhoto 11 (the menu for open is grey).

    Same for creating new library
In the root user everything works
Is there any startup application kwon to be not compatible with iPhone?
If I open cklicking a library everything works fine

Have you made sure you're holding down the Option key before you launch iPhoto and keep it down until the selction window appears.
Log into another user account on your Mac that's the same as the problem account and check to see if iPhoto will work OK there.  If it does go back to your account and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Cannot open a set of files in iPhoto

I was uploading photos from my camera and the battery went out - because I was uploading such a huge card, I had to do it three times before it was successful. No problems in iPhoto but after a couple months I noticed that in addition to my original files e.g. IMG_2070, there were IMG20701 and IMG20702 files in the Library. Stupidly concerned that I was wasting space, I deleted the _1 and _2 files. Now I can't read any of the files in iphoto although when I click on the "original" files themselves, they open just fine in Preview, I can upload/email them, etc. It also seems iPhoto has created "ghost" _1 files, not sure why, but they have zero size and won't open. Also, the orientation of all the vertical photos is now horizontal.
Is there a way to fix this? I unfortunately deleted the files from the sd card so I have to work with what's left here, if possible. I am normally not so foolish so trust that you can walk me through fixing my mistake and thank you in advance!

    pointofit:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How did you delete those "extra" files? From the Finder or from within iPhoto? If it was from the Finder then you've committed the cardinal sin of iPhoto and may have damaged the library as far as those particular files are concerned. Evidently each attempt to import those files was successful to some point and the duplicates were added to the library.
You can start by trying to rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
What you experienced is exactly why I strongly suggest other users to use a card reader to upload from their camera to a folder on the desktop first and then into iPhoto. An extra step but avoids the pitfalls of low battery or accidental disconnection of the camera during import.
Post back with the results of the rebuild and, if unsuccessful, we can go from there.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Cannot open my database from version 5.0

I cannot open my Lookout 5.0 data in 5.1 Max 2.2 works fine but not Max 3.0. I am currently in class at NI and I tried it with the instructor. It opened just fine on Max 3.0.1. I cannot find a download to update my Max and when I tried the "Product Updater" in Max it told me that there are no updates available.
The error text states: Unable to create database: Class error or no such requested class exsists in max storage (0x80040301)
I will be in training room 1 at NI till 10/1 if you would like to examine my laptop.

I am having this same problem.  I have both 5.0 and 5.1 installed on my laptop and need to have them both as I develop in both versions for my customers.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
