Cannot open rented films

I have just rented three films on my ipad air and two of them say "cannot open, this media may be damaged" and the other says "cannot open the content is not autharised" What should I do. I haven't watched them yet.

All purchases are linked to the Apple ID you used when you first bought them, you can't transfer them to a new account.  What you could do is authorize your computer to use the content you bought with that Apple ID, if you know the password for it.
You could try to contact iTunes Support but it's likely you'll need the Apple ID or some other info:

I have paid for rented films but cannot find them anywhere on my laptop including itunes , I even watched as they were downloading but did not want to watch them at that time so logged out once they were fully downloaded. After logging back in no sign on itunes that I had rented the films . Even if I try to rent the same film Itunes tells me I have already got that film , so where is it ? Help please

Just download and save another file.<br />
Then you can right click that file in the Download Manager and choose "Open Containing Folder".

    Hello, jaimie299.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the movie rental has completely downloaded, this movie should be located in your movie library under rental.  Below, I have included a couple articles on how to check for interrupted downloads and movie rentals.  I have also included and article that will allow you to report a problem with your purchase if you are still unable to watch the movie.

At this point I would contact iTunes by:
    https://getsupport.apple.com/ServiceOptionAction.action
iTunes > iTunes store > connecting and downloading > movie rentals > chat or email with iTunes.
They should tell you what to do or how to fix it.

  • My problems started with an error 50 message when trying to download bought films. After un-installing and downloading iTunes, a number of times, I still cannot open iTunes on my PC and keep getting the message "you do not have permission to open"

I have removed all spyware, anti virus software and removed all iTunes programs - as suggested by Apple. I still cannot open iTunes on my PC because of the message "you do not have permission to open this file, folder"
I have changed and checked all permissions to allow this but still get the same message.
iTunes is located on my C drive and I now do not have the neccesary permissions to open it.

    Hey Chris-
It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • Itunes movie rental "Cannot Open" Message Ipad3

    Hi
I have been downloading iTunes rental movies for a couple of months and playing them on my Ipad3 with no trouble. Over the last few weeks I have been getting a "Cannot Open" Message when I try and play a film. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I have found that a film that will not open in the evening will open the following morning after the iPad has been charged but there has always been a minimum of 40% battery when it has failed. The only thing that I have changed before this started happening was to upgrade BBC iPlayer so I could download TV programs. I have tried turning the pad on and off, shut down all running applications but the issue seems totally random.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi kfrau13,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

  • IPad "cannot open" iTunes movie rentals

I am travelling / I rented 2 ,movies for the plane but did it from an old 32bit Macbook. They transferred fine to the iPad but when I tried to open them I got the "Cannot Open" message. Result - did not get to watch my rentals ! I have an idea the fact that I purchased on an old generation Macbook Pro is the issue ?
They are still on my iPad (and presumably still somewhow registered in my account)
I happen to be travelling with a 64bit Macbook Pro (should have purchased from here in the first place !!)
I am thinking there might be a way to resync my iPad with my 64 bit Macbook and resync the movies so that I can at least watch them on of before the flight home next week
    Ideas appreciated ?

    Hi bluemoon59,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link to see more details and screenshots.
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657?viewlocale=en_US
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • Ipad 2 movie rental issue..."cannot open"

I rented 2 movies for a flight last weekend, and when I went to watch them, I received an error message stating that either of the movies "cannot open".  Apple did refund the rental costs, but I want to know why they didn't work in the first place.  I'm running iOS 5 on my ipad.  I just don't want this to happen again to me.  Any advice as to what happened??

I had the same problem too! I downloaded 7 rental movies for a week's fishing trip in France (NO internet connection for the week). Started playing the 1st one on the first night there, and it seemed just fine. Stopped the film halfway through, and when trying to start it again later that evening, got the dreaded "cannot open" message! Tried all the other films (including the one I'd already started to watch), and got the same "cannot open" message. None of them worked for the entire trip. When I got home the following week and connected to WiFi, they all started playing just fine. Turned the iPad to airplane mode, and started getting the error message again.
I opened a case with Apple Support (who have refunded the payments for all 7 movies) and they're trying to tell me it's a download issue! I'm not so sure - I think the movies are all downloaded just fine - but it seems to be some sort of validation issue requiring internet connection (though, if that's the case, I don't know why the one I'd already started to watch was giving the same error message when I went back to complete it!??)
On their latest support email, they've said the following....
"when you download more than 2 movie rentals at a time they will not be completely downloaded and will not play completely and will show the message "cannot open", therefore I advise you to whenever you download movie rentals always download one at a time"
I'll try this next time, as I did download all 7 rentals at the same time, but I'm still dubious that it's a download issue as I've definitely downloaded multiple rentals previously, and not suffered this problem before

  • HT1657 I cannot open my movie rental.

I cannot open my movie rental.  I found it in my Videos app, but it keeps telling me to go to Downloads first to download the movie.  I cannot locate it anywhere-in my iTunes account, or anywhere else I can think of.

What did you rent it on ? If on your computer's iTunes then it should be in the Movies part of your library (is there a 'rentals' tab on that with the film in it ?), if an iOS device then it should be in its Videos app.

Cannot open camera RAW images from Sony DSC-RX100M3 camera.  Working on a Mac with Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw 6.7?

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob

  • "Cannot open" error when downloaded *purchased* movie from icloud?

This had happened multiple times and I cannot believe it hasn't been fixed when I see issues with rentals from years ago!  I fully downloaded a movie I purchased a year ago to my iPhone. It successfully downloaded, processed, etc. Shows the dot next to it as fully unwatched. Plenty of room on phone. Have watched movie on our Apple TV - no problem.
WHen I go to watch, annoying "cannot open" message. :-(
Do they seriously expect me to ONLY download movies to a computer with a hardwire connection and transfer them? I can't travel with an iMac desktop, obviously! What's the point of icloud then?!!!!! It's ridiculous!
ANY tricks to get this movie to play? Anyone have any luck in this situation?
    Thanks.

  • I cannot open itunes a second time after closing the program.

After I close Itunes on my PC running Windodos XP Pro, I cannot open the program again without logging off the computer, an when I try to log off, the computer tells me that Itunes is still running.

I've never rented a movie from iTunes (ever) and when I look at Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End I have only a "buy" option. Nothing to rent.

  • Videos show "cannot open" error

I have downloaded several videos that play fine on my iTouch to my iPad.
When I try to watch any I get the "cannot open" error. I can open one of films and see the chapter marker etc but any attempt to play and you get the error.
I have closed all applications via the "double home" bar.
I have restarted and reset and still no joy.
Any suggestions short of a "reset to factory default" and reload?

Guess a little sleepy when I posted.  You need to hold down the ctrl key and start
Bridge.  Some users have to click on Bridge
icon and then IMMEDIATELY hold down the Crtl key.  Should get a
    reset window.
The icon I am talking about is the desktop shortcut icon to open Bridge.

  • Cannot open Quick Time movies in iLife 11

I got my first digitized Super8 films back on an external hard drive, 1 TB. They were converted to Quick Time movies 1280x720,
Codecs: Component Y' CbCr 10bit 4:2:2 ( I have no idea what this all means). All I had asked was to get them in .mov files. Quick Time movies seems to be something different than .mov files.
What can I do to open these Quick Time movies and to edit them in iLife 11?
Would appreciate if somebody could help me .

The information about the codec in Final Cut Express is at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3523
I have a lot of old Super8 films and decided to get them digitized. After that I intend to discard the old analog films and keep two copies of these old Super8 movies on external hard drives. Therefore I am looking for the best possible quality at a reasonable price.
The first batch last year was digitized to what they called uncompressed .mov files and could be easily imported and edited in imovie.
For the second batch (another service) I decided to go HD in .mov files, again uncompressed (the HD quality 1280x720 seems to be remarkably better) What I got are these Quick Time movies that I cannot open in Quick Time and imovie does not let me import these Quick Time movies, whereas the uncompressed .mov files last year were a breeze to handle. What's the difference between 'uncompressed' .mov files vs. Quick Time 'uncompressed' that I cannot open in imovie.
Now you are pointing out that FCE does not let me edit uncompressed QT files. How do I convert to .mov or MPEG Streamclip?
Would I purchase Final Cut Express only to be able to open those movies in Quick Time?
Feels like I am at the low end of the learning curve.
Appreciate all help I can get for my project.
