"cannot open...required .xml" again

Has anyone been able to open a pages file that has the cannot open .xml required error?
I opened a doc from pages'08 in pages'09 made some crucial changes saved as new name and cannot open it again now.
I tried opening in '08 and of course no luck.
I just finished 3 hours of writing and cannot do that again!!!
Thanx for any help.

3 hours of writing without no intermediate save in different files is silly.
Attach the file to a mail
send them to my maibox.
I will try to revive the raw text.

  • Cannot open persistence.xml nor orm.xml

I had to kill JDev process after I realized Data Control could not be created on a session EJB since application was not created with JSF,EJB technology. JDev kept trying to create Data Control. I left it trying over night and in the morning I killed process. I restarted JDev and tried to open files persistence.xml and orm.xml, but JDev just showed up message "Loading...Please wait." and it was stuck with that message. I could open all other files except these two XML files.
    Is there a workaround?

  • When I close out Firefox, it arears to close. It returnes me to Desktop; however, it does not close. It keeps running, and because of this, I cannot open it up again without opening the Task Manager and ending the process first. What is causing this?

Firefox works fine except for the hicup of not shutting down. If you don't know what is happening, you won't know why it won't open up.

  • "cannot open display" error meaning

I'm trying to get dwm running for a while now, and when I try to run it, it says "cannot open display". Then I thought, ok, maybe i have to install an X server, so I got Xorg, installed it, removed dwm and then recompiled it, but I got the same error. Then I thought that maybe I didn't have the right configurations (even though I never bothered config.h or config.mk), so I got gnome (hoping that it would auto-configure itself) so that I can test if it's something with dwm or some other problem with the system. When I tried to start gnome, I got the "cannot open display" error, again (my keyboard will never forgive me for what I did when I saw that).
I went through dwm's wiki more than once, googled the problem, read about Xorg, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Everything was done on a fresh netinstall.
Could you please help me out with this? (Or just link me to somewhere I can find some meaningful information about the problem)

@lifeafter2am  I read that, xorg_server and xorg_apps were already installed, since I installed xorg (as in, the whole xorg package). xinit, startx   ~/.xinitrc and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc , all files/programs mentioned in the wiki, ar missing, though, perhaps it's a hint of some sort
@istbrad212   the video card driver was already installed
Sorry for the slow responses, I have to constantly reboot in order to try everything.

  • I cannot open itunes a second time after closing the program.

After I close Itunes on my PC running Windodos XP Pro, I cannot open the program again without logging off the computer, an when I try to log off, the computer tells me that Itunes is still running.

I've never rented a movie from iTunes (ever) and when I look at Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End I have only a "buy" option. Nothing to rent.

  • Cannot open documents via doubleclick. must navigate thru folders

I am helping an elderly gentleman. Suddenly he finds that doubleclicking on an Appleworks document does not open it. He has to navigate through the Finder-which is slower and confuses him.
IF he reboots his Mac (iMac 17") everything again is ok and he can simply double click..
But then the problem returns and he cannot open the documents again unless he reboots.
Not sure what triggers the problem-it is not a corruption as the problem clears when reboot. Unless some sort of temporary cache or permission is involved?
Slight suspicion this is related to updated Fax software but not sure. (PageSender)
Has anyone had similar problem? Any known application conflicts?
Responses welcome ... and Happy Holidays

A couple of things might help. Whenever you do an update, & installing software can fall in this category, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions in 10.4.x, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.
Partly because AppleWorks 6 is actually an OS 9 application carbonized to run in OS X, there can be some confusion between AppleWorks files & OS X because pre-OS X systems don't use file extensions.
Sometimes, merely "telling" OS X that AppleWorks is to open these files will work. Click a known AppleWorks document in the Finder to highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose AppleWorks 6. If AppleWorks 6 is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the AppleWorks 6 application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with AppleWorks 6.
If that doesn't work consistently, you can add the .cwk extension to the file names. This user tip explains how you can add the extension to whole folders of files at a time.

Rosetta can have a 2GB RAM "tax" to manage PowerPC code as well as how that affects performance.
I think real world performance shows both statements to be wrong; consider this:
If that were the case, how come Apple does not include that information in its Snow Leopard installation requirements, since Rosetta is an optional install?
Also, running a PowerPC app on an 2011 i7 Mac with Snow Leopard will run faster than running that PowerPC app on a PowerPC Mac.

  • An update for numbers was shown for my macbook pro, however even though this has been done I cannot open numbers without updating and when you try to update again it advises you that this is already done so we go round in circles getting nowhere, any idea

`   I cannot open numbers as it requires and update, and the update has taken place yet it still maintains that an update is required and when you look to iupdate it advises you that you have already updated so we go around the circle and get nowhere.  Help please.

    Hi renrut,
Do not delete the old version of Numbers (Numbers 2.3, Numbers'09). It has features that the new Numbers has lost (in particular, Print View).
Numbers '09 has been moved to a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. The icon on your Dock continues to point to Numbers '09. Launching Numbers from that icon is why you get the "Update" message. Numbers 2.3 is trying to open a Numbers 3 document.
The new version of Numbers (Numbers 3.2 is the latest version) lives in your Applications folder (not a sub folder). Drag that icon to your Dock. It will become an Alias. Right click (or control click) on it and Options > Keep In Dock. Now you can chose which version to run.
Numbers 2 on the left (three columns)
Numbers 3 on the right (four columns).
Both versions will run happily side by side. Just be sure which version you use to open a Numbers document. If Numbers 3 tries to "steal" a Numbers 2 document, you will get a warning when you start to edit:
Edit a Copy will preserve your Numbers 2 document and create a Numbers 3 copy. Cancel will get you out. Upgrade will convert your Numbers 2 document to a Numbers 3 document.
If all else fails, you can do Menu > File > Export To > Numbers '09 to revert.
Do not delete Numbers '09 (or Numbers '08) from your machine! You will need them.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Cannot open files, "index.xml file is missing". ???

I cannot open files, the message "idex.xml file is missing" shows up.  What to do?

Do a search in this forum for required index.xml file is missing. It's not really a fix because 1) if it's the playlist for a CD it's too small 2) it's blurry, and 3) you mean this has been going on a year and nobody's fixed it?

  • I am using the 30-day trial and have 4 days left.  My problem is twofold - 1) I cannot open or see my timeline and don't wish to start over again; it's 15 minutes long

I am using the 30-day trial and have 4 days left.  My problem is threefold - 1) I cannot open or see my timeline and don't wish to start over again; it's 15 minutes long - video, photos and audio. 2) My timeline has disappeared, so can't edit further  3) Need best way to export to DVD or my MacBook Pro laptop - don't know which settings/items to choose.
I would appreciate it very much if Apple Support would extend my 30-day trial.  I am working on this project for a Multimedia classroom project at Randolph Community Collge, and am also unemployed so can't afford to buy just yet.  PLEASE help!

Ok, Tom, I completed the first three steps and everything went fine.  However, I still don't have a timeline, AND above is a screenprint of my timeline and what I presume is meant by the PROJECT.  There is no project.  Now, I can go up to the Event window and Export XML, but it doesn't give me a usable file.  So, first, am I correct re: terminology - the timeline/bottom section is also known as the project folder/manager??
I've been reading other users strings as well and have tried their tricks as well.  For instance, Eric Martin re: his deleting preference files (6/6), and Norman Jayo's (4/25) lengthy discourse with the "here is the work around" w/ 7 steps.  Again, he mentions closing the PROJECT that is corrupted.  I'm not sure that mine is corrupt as I can play and see my 15-minute audio/view in the view module (upper right).
    So, back to the beginning...

I tries and it doesnt work!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I recently upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and cannot open up .avi files now in Quicktime. These same files opened up with no problem prior to my upgrade.  Additionally, I had upgraded to the Pro version of Quicktime recently, but it appears I've retrograded back to the basic version, unexplainably.
