Cannot open scanned file in Reader
used a scanner to scan and save file (as a jpeg). Want to open it in Reader to save it as a PDF. Reader says it cannot ooen the file type....JPG.
Adobe Reader cannot convert files to PDF. You'll want Acrobat Standard or Professional for that.
Be well...

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)] and then try to open the file. -
Cannot open .jpg files; says read-only and no access
I cannot open .jpg files I've been working on, even though I saved them as .jpg. The prompt kept asking me to save the files over & over. I did for a while then said NO to close the files. Now it says access is denied. Went to properties and tried to uncheck box for read-only, but it says I don't have access to do that. How can I get my files back...these were very special photos. Please help!
No...just PSE7. Unfortunately, when I tried to cut & paste the photos from
my camera disk to my hard drive, the problem photo completely disappeared.
When I go into recent history, the shortcuts are there, but none of them
work. They say the file has been moved or changed so...I don't even know
where they are for now. Do I need to call a repairman? -
I cannot open pdf files from one supplier when using Adobe Reader but I can using another Viewer
I cannot open pdf files from one supplier when using Adobe Reader but I can open it if using Google PDF viewer or another viewer. The Adobe reader gives the error "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when I try to open the file. The version of Adobe Reader is 10.1.7, however I have tried other versions and they all fail the same way. I have tested on a number of different PC's in different networks and all fail using Adobe Reader but work using alternate viewer. Also the PC's will open a PDF from any other source.
Newer Reader versions are more strict than older versions (and other PDF viewers). If certain minimum requirements are not met, Reader will tell you that the PDF is damaged. This can happen when a document was created with software that does not adhere to PDF standards, or when the file was damaged during a download or email transmission.
You should contact the creator of these PDFs. -
I would like to use Firefox with Sharepoint.
However, I am only able to open a file in "read only" mode whch means I cannot edit the document and save it. I am also not able to "check-out" a document in Sharepoint and edit it at the same time. This may not work for everyone, but I solved this problem by clicking on the file name in sharepoint, not the document icon to the left of the name. This then brought up the various options, including checking out, editing, version history etc. It seems obvious but I have only just realised this!

My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files.Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????/ I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9
Please help me!!!!Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -

What happens when you try to open PDF files?
Do you get any error message?
and I will add one more
What web browser are you using? -
SAFARI 6.1.3 update to Reader 11.0.07 … cannot open pdf files that are presently on my computer. Previous version had no problem. Any ideas? (Here is the message: Adobe Reader could not open 'Digital_Holiday_Cookbook.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
Thank you Pat!!!

Why the question marks? Can you open PDF files or not? You don't need Firefox to open PDF files.

Even though I uninstalled Adobe Reader & Adobe Flash Player and reinstalled the latest versions, I still cannot open PDF files. They always try to open in Word 2010.
This is a Windows setting. In Windows 7 you can change it through the Control Panel: Either Start>Default Programs or Start>Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Associations
Find .pdf and change it (click Change Program) from Microsoft Word to Adobe Reader. Browse to find the Reader application if necessary: Program Files>Adobe>Reader11>Reader>AcroRd.exe -
I downloaded the Adobe Digital Reader and three books I purchased and my Toshiba Thrive cannot open the files. What do I do next?
Hey jlcreads2,
Are the three ebooks that you have purchased in PDF format ? If not, then Adobe Reader will not be able to open them. If those are PDF files, then Adobe Reader should definitely open them and we would like to help you make it work. Let us know. -

Spent all afternoon downloading Java plugiins and Adobe reader; each with the following "failure message."
Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.Error 2203.Database: C:\Windows\Installer\ced2e.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035.This is going to sound lame, but... have you shut down and restarted Windows since this problem began? Sometimes the Windows Installer starts behaving erratically, perhaps due to a backlog of deferred updates, and the only way to get around it is to reboot.
