Cannot open scanned JPEG images

Have an iMac running Yosemite 10.10.1  Have just scanned a photo and it has been saved in Documents as a JPEG file  - just as I have done many times before. But now when I try to open the file I get a message "The file “IMG_20150103_0001.jpg” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." JPEG files from earlier scans ) from before I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1) however still open.

I would try to see if you can get Image Capture to serve your needs. People often have trouble with dedicated 3rd party software for peripherals, and unless you are doing something more than basic scanning, Image Capture will do the job. There's a good chance Image Capture will work for you.

I tried opening a JPEG image, using "Open As" function into Camera Raw in Elements 5.0 Editor and I receive a "program error" message. How can I change settings or otherwise enable Elements 5.0 to open a JPEG into Camera Raw?

The latest version of ACR which is compatibe with Elements 5 is ACR4.6. You can download it fromhttp://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4034&fileID=3758
I think the Adobe site says 4.5 was the last forElements 5, but I know 4.6 works.  ACR5 needs Elements 7(or possibly 6). Good luck

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,

No image available on clicking or if card put back into camera-"no images to disply" Yet if try to add more images, message that card is full! Any suggestions?

Deleting from iPhoto or image capture after import should be fine and shouldn't cause any issues. Deleting from the folder view of finder, can cause issues as the camera can the image is still there. You can try emptying the trash on your mac if you deleted them via the finder, as although you've deleted it, it's only marked as trashed and not actually deleted until you empty the trash - ie it won't relieve the space taken by the files.
If your still having issues after you try this, you may be best formating the memory card. This will wipe all data on it though, so make sure you do copy anything off that yo u want to keep! Format from the camera, so that choosing the format>erase all option from the menu of most cameras.

  • Error when exporting to pdf - cannot read a jpeg image, but I do not know which jpeg image.

I have created a document (A5) in Indesign cs6 with 116 pages. Because I would like to print the book I want to export it to pdf. Normally this is no problem for me, but now I got the following error: "Error encountered while reading JPEG image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again." This is quite annoying as my book contains 631 links of which most are .jpg. Does anyone know how I can find out which picture gives the error?
What is remarkable is the following. As it is a very large file InDesign automatically splitted it in subsections (with names like 'A5 V' or 'A5 V3'). To get closer to the problem I tried to export each subsection (all between 3 and 30 pages) to pdf. But somehow I managed to do this, so one might think that there is nothing wrong with the document at all. But when I try to expor the document as a whole again I still get this error about the JPEG image. It takes a couple of minutes (somewhere between 30 and 40% of the exporting) before I get the error.
Is there anything I should have tried which I forgot? I hope anyone can help me with this problem.

If you are able to export as sections it's almost certainly not actually a problem with the image, but a problem of not enough system resources to finish the job. This is not uncommon with large complex PDF exports.
Try rebooting, then immediately open ID and try the export again first thing. If it works, great. If  not, you can combine your sections into a single PDF in Acrobat Pro.

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw Images in PS CR3

Even though I've been a professional photographer for over 25 years, I finally decided it was time to go digital. Little did I know how overwhelming and frustrating the learning process would be, especially for an old timer like me. Well, the 10 day return period on the digital equipment and software purchase is up, so I have no choice but to move forward in the learning process. :)
Actually, I'm excited about all the photographic possibilities that digital has to offer over film.
The first batch of photos were taken with a new Canon 40-D in Raw + JPEG. When I open my picture folder (containing those photos) in Bridge, a CR2 icon appears next to each thumbnail image that was loaded from the camera flash card. The Bridge program is part of Photoshop CS3 that I purchased, and the 40-D has the latest firmware. (If relevant, the computer is a PC using Vista Home Edition.)
Problem: When I double click on a JPEG image, I am able to load that image into Photoshop. When I double click on the CR2 icon, however, I get a message that says, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." What am I overlooking?
Also, shouldn't a thumbnail Raw image appear along with its corresponding JPEG thumbnail when the content of the picture folder is opened in Bridge? As it stands now, I get only a CR2 icon next to the JPEG thumbnails.
I would be grateful for any help you could offer.
    Many thanks.

  • I cannot open my raw images in Bridge on my CS6, could someone help me as soon as possible please?????

My photoshop has no plug in for my camera raw and i cannot open any CR2 or RAW images can someone help me please ?

First, a clarification:  you are not addressing Adobe directly here in these user forums.
Then, we need a lot more information before we can help.  For instance, what exact version of Photoshop CS6 are you on?  E.g., for Mac you need to be updated to Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6.  I forget what the current version for Windows is.
What is the exact version of your OS?

  • Cannot Open Camera Raw images in CS2

    Hi
I am running CS2 and PSE 8,but cannot open Raw images in CS2
My camera is an Eos 5 MKII
Camera Raw in PSE is 5.5.
I would like to open the Raw files into CS2.
    Any Help would be appreciated.
I am using the latest firmware from Canon.
    Thankyou
    Keith

Raw files are unique to each camera model and manufacturer. There is a 'model' field and 'manufacturer' field whose values are checked as any RAW format file is opened and if the program opening that file does not have the codes for processing that specific camera's RAW file, most programs will throw a error message and not precess that file.
For Adobe image editing programs you need to have the an ACR plugin version that provides the code for your camera model.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list the various cameras supported by Adobe photo editing programs and the version of the earlies ACR plug-in that supports that camera.
For the Canon Eos 5D MKII you will need ACR plug-in version 5.2 or better.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications list the program versions of Adobe image editing programs, the ACR plug-in version shipped with the program and the latest ACR plug-in version that that program can use.
The last ACR plug-in version for CS2 is 3.7, so you can not directly open the CR2 or RAW image from this camera. You could upgrade to PhotoShop CS5, the most current version of PhotoShop, or download a copy the free Adobe DNG, Digital NeGative, converter and convert your CR2 files to the Adobe DNG format and then open the DNG file with your copy PhotoShop CS2. You could also open the file with Canon image editing software and transfer the image as Tiff to your copy of CS2.
This is an Adobe Acrobat U2U forum, You might find additional help in the PhotoShop forums or an Canon U2U forum.

  • Pse8 -  open several jpeg images in raw

I have achieved this 2x but unable to do so consistantly, i open folder/files with organizer - file>get photo videos>from files folders; select all, click fix>full edit and mostlyl all photos open as jpeg individual photos not in RAW - help dave h

There isn't really a way to force JPEG and TIFF files to open in Camera Raw from the Organizer. The reason some files are opening in Camera Raw and others are not is because those that are opening in Camera Raw have been opened there previously. Once you open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, the file becomes tagged and will continue to open in Camera Raw. You can open groups of images in the Elements Editor in Camera Raw to give them this tag. Just use File > Open As, choose your files and set the format drop-down at the bottom to "Camera Raw" (Just use File > Open on Mac).

can anybody write the full code to display the true lossless jpeg image

is there any website has good tutorial about lossless jpeg image. what
is point transform in lossless jpeg ? what old pseudo lossless jpeg ?
what is equivalent for that in java ?

There are two images in that zip file. I have no problems reading the one called "lossless.jpg". It's a 16-bit grayscale image that's completely black. The one called "test.jpg" throws an exception. Is this what you're getting? I'm using JAI-ImageIO 1.1
is there any website has good tutorial about lossless jpeg image. what
is point transform in lossless jpeg ? what old pseudo lossless jpeg ?
what is equivalent for that in java ? In addition to describing normal jpeg encoding, the jpeg specification also describes what's called "lossless jpeg" encoding. Lossless jpegs - as described in the original specification - are obsolete. No common application can open them. It doesn't help that the png format (also lossless) provides much smaller file sizes then lossless jpeg's.
Both of the jpegs in that zip file are lossless jpegs. Incidently, I can't open them up with Irfanview or Adobe Photoshop CS4 (wich says alot). And I can only read "lossless.jpg" with JAI-ImageIO while the other one throws an IOException. By using lossless jpegs, the user cripples portability.
JPEG-LS is different from lossless jpeg. In fact, it was meant to replace lossless jpegs. While not actually lossless, jpeg-ls is described as a "near lossless" compression. I believe the files have a +.jls+ extension instead of a +.jpg+ one. While not obsolete (I think), JPEG-LS is not widely used. Using it can still cripple portability.
The JPEG2000 format also has a "lossless" mode, that again, is not widely used. Using it can still cripple portability. JPEG2000 files have a +.jp2+ extension.
Lastly, I don't know what you mean by this question
what is point transform in lossless jpeg?PS: I have no problems reading a lossless jpeg or a jpeg-ls that I write with JAI-ImageIO. So maybe there's something wrong with "test.jpg" in the zip file?

  • Unable to open saved JPEG images

I opened and modified several JPEG images with Photoshop CS2. Now none of these files can be opened by Photoshop or any other program. All of the files seem to have a non-zero size, but when I try to open them in Photoshop, it does not generate an error, it merely offers to create a new file with the same image properties (size, etc) as the saved image on disk.
I've also tried several other programs to open these files, and none of them can open them. FYI, one thing that all of the files have in common is that they are all saved with the absolute minimum compression settings.
Any assistance in helping me to recover these files would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can email me one of the Pics (zip it first) but it sounds like they are toast.

  • Cannot open tiffs, jpegs etc. in CS by double clicking

Cannot double click to open files in CS. I have CS4 and CS6 on same machine. Supposedly this should be fine. I am running OSX.8.3 Mountain lion. I have already cleared the PS prefs for both versions. I have run the disk utility permissions etc. Sometimes running it will solve the problem temporarily but then I cannot open them again. Also, have done the right click, get info window to change all to open with CS4. It automatically turns the selection to CS6 like there is a conflict. Very frustrating to not be able to open with a double click. And I cannot do an open with. I physically have to open CS4 or CS6, and point to the file to open it. This is becoming challenging and a time waster. Any info would be a help. Serious answers only. Thanks.

Bridge could be the culprit. It usually is set to auto-start on boot and could be over riding your OSX associations. Check Bridge CS6 Preferences > File Type Associations and next to each File type jpg, tiff, etc choose the version of Photoshop you want to open it in. Make sure Bridge CS4 agrees as well.
If you do not see Photoshop CS4 in the list, the bottom choice is Browse...  Use that to go to the Photoshop CS4.app file.
