Cannot open tabs

I cannot seem to open new tabs when using firefox.
I have tried clicking on the new tab button, right clicking and selecting new tab and have tried File, new tab and none of them will produce a new tab.
However if I click on a website link in the current tab it will open a new tab. It just seems to be when I want to manually open a tab.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

    I cannot open a new tab by using the ctrl+ T shortcut or if I even click on the little + sign next to currently open tabs. If I right click a link or a bookmark and select "open in new tab" it works but I cannot open a blank tab. I have tried deleting and reinstalling twice now.

    If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.
    If there's no difference, try a clean reinstall. Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

    Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Downloaded the latest revision and now cannot open tabs for new searches or change the main tab from my home page. What did you do to my old Mozilla?

    It opens to my home page but I cannot open another tab. If I change the address in the address bar, it will not go to the new address. I have to go to explorer to get these features now but I really liked my old firefox.

  • Cannot open tabs with keyboard command or cicking on the + tab

    Using Cmd+T of clicking on the + tab in tabs doesn't open a tab. I can open a tab by Cmd+clicking on a link on a webpage but not independently.

    Do any of your extensions have "community toolbar" in the name? Those seems to be associated with this problem.
    You can review and disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then see whether you can find one of those and disable it.
    Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

  • I have Ver. 3.6.13 and I have reinstalled to no avail. My TABS do not work, I cannot open a new tab...either from the '+' tab or from within the 'File' menu

    Everything else seems to work fine. But I cannot open tabs. I just downloaded the latest and same version and reinstalled. That did not work.

  • I cannot open a new tab by clicking on the X. Why was this function disabled when firefox updated. And I lost my links on my toolbar.

    Firefiox updated and I've lost my AOL links and cannot open tabs by clicking on the X.

    Note that the X is a close button and that the new tab button is styled as a plus (+) sign.
    You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
    You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar New Tab button.<br />
    If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.<br />
    If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.<br />

    I should have known better than to upgrade at a time when I don't have days to deal with the problems. I cannot open tabs. Not from the file menu, not with ctrl T or anywhere else.     I cannot open a tab to the right of an existing tab. I've followed the directions provided under normal FAQ. This feature just recently was wiped from my PC, and I am not certain how.

    The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.

  • When I launch Firefox (both 3.6 and 4), I get the 'tab' on the task bar, but cannot open it! When I launch it a second time, it works fine, and continues to work when I close the first, non-working version!

    A few general trouble shooting tips that may apply here:
    1. If you used Software Update to do the OS update(s) to reach 10.6.7, go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and download and apply the Mac OS v10.6.7 Combo Updater. The Combo Updater contains some fixes that were not included in the incremental updaters used by Software Update.
    1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
    2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
    Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
    Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
    If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
    If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

    Try a Restart. 
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

  • Cannot open a new tab have to get a link and open in new tab.

    I cannot open a new tab either by clicking on the button on the tool bar, going to File/Open New Tab or CTRL T. I think this happened after I upgraded to the newest version of Firefox. The only way I can get a new tab is to click on a bookmark or link and right click and select Open in New Tab. Very frustrating.
