Cannot open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported on this architecture-what does that mean?.

Firefox has always worked fine...until I installed v4. Now I get the above error, and it won't launch. I'm running OSX v10.5.8, and all of my drivers/software are up to date.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • Can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture. I'm using mac os 10.5.8

Been using Firefox (many years) version 3.16.. Received invitation to download Firefox version 4 for Mac this morning and did so (regretably losing 3.16 version) because now the new version 4 won't open. I just keep getting the error message "You can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture." I'm using the latest Mac OS 10.5.8. The processor is 1.8 GHz Power PC G5.
I trashed the first download and downloaded a 2nd Firefox version 4 and had the same results.

  • I run System 10.5.8 on a Mac and receive the reply "You can't open the application 'Firefox.app' because it is not supported on this architecture."

I always update to your newest Firefox configuration and did so when I was asked to upgrade to "Firefox 4" for the Mac. When I tried to access my account I receive the above message. I dumped the upgrade which wiped my Mac clean of all my bookmarks and again downloaded Firefox 4 but with the same result. Tried to switch to Safari but this too was unsatisfactory. I'm guessing I need to return to a previous Firefox upgrade and never again try and upgrade. How do I do this?

  • You can't open the application iPhoto.app because it is not supported on this type of Mac.

I just used migration assistant to bring all my data over from my old Macbook to my new iMac.  Then I deleted the admin user which was created automatically when I first booted up the iMac.  All worked well, except for iPhoto which niow gives me this message.  Annoying because I upgraded to the iMac for the big screen to work with my photos.
    Any ideas folks?
    TIA

You have 90 days of free AppleCare support on a new Mac, please look for the phone number in your owners manual and give them a call. They should be able to coach you through the issue.

  • You can't open the application "Game center" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.

Yesterday when I opened the Chess on my macbook pro, It kept popping up the alert"You can‘t open the applicaion"Game center" because it is not supported on this type of mac." Then I tried to open my game center on my mac, it can be opened but it blocked when I logged in . After I entered my user name and password it direct me to an blank page and then redirected back to the login page again.
I want to know how can I dismiss the alter and make the Game center work. Thanks.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.gamecenter.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • You can't open the application "AcroExt.app" because it is not responding.

I'm getting this error message every time I try to open a PDF from Finder:
You can’t open the application “AcroExt.app” because it is not responding.
I'm running Yosemite 10.10.2 and Acrobat Pro 11.0.10. In fact, it seems like it started right after I installed the 10.10.2 update.
If I open Acrobat and then open the PDF file from the File > Open menu within Acrobat the PDF will open, but if I try opening it from Finder I get the above error.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
Thanks for whatever tips you can provide.

    Hi,
I have been experiencing the same issur.
This is not a fix, but rather a workaround.  Keep the Adobe Acrobat application open all the time.  You should be able to double-click the pdf document from the finder and open it.

It's a really bad idea to post your iPhone's serial number and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.
Any one device can create only three iCloud accounts. As you have apparently already created three accounts (or if it's a used phone the previous owner did) you cannot create any more one it. This is tied to the hardware, not the account, and there is no way round it.
You can create a new iCloud account on another iOS device or on a Mac, and then you will be able to sign into that on your iPhone.

  • Can't open application...because it's not supported on this architecture

Hello, and I apologize if I'm posting this question in the wrong place...
I had a folder with over 30 gigs of music, videos, pictures, and other miscellaneous files that I wanted to password protect - something simple, when I clicked on the folder, I wanted a little window to pop-up prompting me for a password. I found such a program online, and it worked like a charm (I now can't think of the program's name and I wasn't able to find it again).
I backed up my computer to an external hdd, deleted that folder, but was able to access that folder from the hdd just as I had when it was on my computer (meaning, clicking on the folder, when the hdd was connected to my computer, still prompted me for a password).
I upgraded my hdd's software recently, and I'm now having problems with this folder. The icon no longer looks like a regular blue folder, as the icon now looks like a couple white pieces of paper, behind the Application "A", behind a white circle with a line through it. Clicking on this folder from my external hdd brings up the error message in my subject line. I moved the folder back to my computer's hd (icon remains the same - circle with line, etc.), and the same error message pops up when I try to click on it.
FYI...looking at the folder's info shows that it's still the original size of my files - 30+ gigs. Here's some details on my computer and external hdd:
    Black MacBook 13"
    Leopard version 10.5.8
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
    1 GB 6772 GHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory
Western Digital My Passport Essential (240 GB, if I remember correctly)
    Using WD Smartware version 1.3.2.5
I'm not incredibly computer saavy, so I'm sure I left out some information necessary to troubleshoot this problem. Please let me know what's needed or if anything needs a better explanation, and I'll try my best.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered. I really don't want to lose my 30+ gigs of data!!

    One other thing to try....
On this folder click on it once.
Apple + I to bring up information on the folder.
Scroll down to sharing and permissions.
Set your account to Read & Write.
Then on the little Gear icon at the bottom (to the right of the + - Icons) pull down that menu and Apply to Enclosed Objects.
I have seen several cases where if you don't have Write access to an app (or something within) you get the Unsupported architecture message incorrectly. Changing permissions like this fixes the problem if this is the case.

  • I've just downloaded 4.0 and now read "You cannot open the application 'Firefox' because it is not supported on this architecture" What do I do?

iMac G5 with PowerPC G5 (3.0). Is this able to support 4.0? Can I go back and run 3.6?

Please consult the Firefox 4 [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html system requirements].
If you cannot use Firefox 4 on your computer, you can download Firefox 3.6 from [http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html here] .

  • I can't open firefox 4 because it's "not supported on this architecture"

I'm using MacOS 10.5 on an eMac (Power), had used Firefox before without any problem. I looked at the other questions and found an explanation: Firefox 4 on a Mac requires the Intel processor.
So, it can't work. You should have warned me, but now my old Firefox is gone. I have nothing, I'm stranded.
All I'm asking is: let me download an older version of Firefox

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

For Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.x can be found here:
