  • I cannot open this PDF file in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a PDF file that I could open on my Windows XP 32-bit laptop in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader.  I then upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop.  But now in Win7-64, I cannot open this same file using the same apps (Acrobat 8 Pro & Acrobat Reader XI).
When I try to open it in Acrobat 8, it does not load and instead a popup windows appears saying -
    Adobe Updater
Some components needed to complete this operation are missing but information about them may be available on the Adobe website. Would you like to search the Adobe website for the missing components?
And I can choose either the OK or Quit buttons.  When I click OK, a web browser starts and goes to this website -
    http://www.adobe.com/special/adobe_update_manager/?type=Filter&name=FOPN_foweb&version=0.0 .0.0&lang=en_US&os=Windows&osver=6.1.7601&appid=acrobat8pro-en_US&cpu=intel
    This webpage says -
    Adobe Update Manager
Adobe cannot locate the requested plugin. New plugins will be listed on this page. Currently there are no plugins.
So now I am stuck, no direction to go.  I am left without any solution from Adobe for Acrobat on this file.
When I try to open this PDF file in Reader, it does not load and instead a web browser is spawned loading the webpage -
    http://plugin.fileopen.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1
This is the FileOpen Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat/Reader, which prompts to -
Please click OK to download the FileOpen Plug-in Installer for Adobe Acrobat/Reader
I click on OK, download and run the Installer file, accept the terms, and installed the FileOpen Client (x64) B928.  Upon completion, it prompts to Finish.  But it does not automatically bring Reader up or try to load the file.  So I try again to load the PDF file into Reader.  But once again, the file does not load and the web browser is spawned loading the same FileOpen Plug-in Installer link.  I click OK again, and start the same FileOpen Client process.  This time, it recognizes that I have FileOpen Client installed, and the window gives me two choices, Repair or Remove.  So since I apparently need this Plug-in, I choose Repair.  The process seems to complete the Repair.  But when I try to load the file, it still brings me back to the FileOpen Plug-in webpage.  So now I am stuck again, and left without any solution from Adobe for Reader on this file.
I tried Adobe support.  But apparently Adobe does not support past releases of their products (Acrobat 8), and also does not give free support for the current version of their free products (Reader XI).
    Can this be fixed?

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.

  • Error Message: There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot open this file because a task is still active in Acrobat.

I've tried Command Q to close;  Tried Adobe Reader Tool Bar but closing is grayed out;  I'ved held the power button for hard close, but everytime I try to open a .pdf I get this message:
There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot open this file because a task is still active in Acrobat.
I'm not extremely technical, but I can follow directions if someone can help!
    Thanks

    Looks like it got stuck.
You can switch to another program or the Finder (click on desktop) and Apple menu > Force Quit > Adobe
You can press and hold the power button, it's a emergency force shutdown which you can boot normally and it should be fine.

  • HT3775 I recently upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and cannot open up .avi files now in Quicktime. I get this error message: The document "ANDREW_McD_MEDIA_VERSION.avi" could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.

I recently upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and cannot open up .avi files now in Quicktime. These same files opened up with no problem prior to my upgrade.  Additionally, I had upgraded to the Pro version of Quicktime recently, but it appears I've retrograded back to the basic version, unexplainably.
I get this error message: The document “ANDREW_McD_MEDIA_VERSION.avi” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.

    Hi,
I had exactly the same problem & found the answer here  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3219982?start=0&tstart=0 . Download a program called Perian, very easy to download worked a treat. I wish all fixes were this easy - Debbie

  • HT2731 When I try to open Itunes, I get message cannot open this file because it was created by a newer version

When I try to open itunes, I get message cannot open this file because it was created by a newer version
    CAn anyone help?

Which system are you running (is this information correct in your profile)?
Are there complicating issues to this question such as you transferring libraries between computers?
    Have you upgraded iTunes recently?

  • I download last update numbers. Now I cannot open the previous files. The screen asked to upload. How to solve this problem?

The screen  asked to donwload the new numbers program. I already have done it. I cannot open the previous files. How to solve this problem?

If by the "screen asked to upload" you mean you see a message to upgrade Numbers, then probably what is happening is that you have two versions of Numbers on your Mac, the new version in the main Applications folder and the old one in a subfolder named 'Work '09.  This is as intended.
Try opening your document with the new version of Numbers that is in the Applications folder, not the Numbers that is in the subfolder.

  • I cannot open any pdf files from internet with this reader.

What is your operating system?  What is your browser?  What is your Reader version?  What exactly means "cannot"?

  • The target cannot open this type of file

I have a new laptop with windows 8.1 and when I try to extract the first tutorial file, I get the message 'The target cannot open this type of file'.  How do I deal with this?

You can choose Other...from the open with menu. This will allow you to browse you applications folder for a different app to open the file with. Preview.app sounds like the best bet for you since you want to see the file quickly & not wait for an image editor to load.
Another option would be to control or right click on the file or a choose a number of files by command clicking on the files you want to see & choose slideshow from the contextual menu. This function can also be accesses from the gear icon at the top of the Finder window. This will allow you to view your photos in a slideshow manner (one at a time) or see them all at once (in an Expose manner). You can also send them directly to iPhoto from here.
To change which application opens your jpeg files select the file & command or right click & choose get info from the contextual menu. Near the middle of the get info window there is an option that says Open With: Choose an application from the drop down menu or choose other to browse for the application of your choice that will open the jpeg file. If you want your chosen application to always open these types of files select Change All. Once the file is selected the get info window can also be accessed from the file menu or by pressing command I.

  • Cannot Open this file:  Z1SQLiteFillRow failed

I'm trying to sync Outlook 2007 Calendar with Ipad and my Samsung S3 Cell.  I've downloaded and activated ICloud on all devices and PC.  My Calendar Items are disappearing in my main Calendar Folder in Outlook after a short time unless my ICloud and or my ICloud Local Calendars are checked in the Navigation Box.   I try to open the Calendar Item in my original Calendar in Outlook to edit or see the event.  After double clicking to open the event, I get the following message:
Cannot Open this file:   Z1SQLiteFillRow failed     Also, sometimes in one of the calendars, when I want to open a new event in the Calendar it won't let me open a new event, says I don't have permission, see your administrator.  Lastly, when I go to Organize in Outlook, it's not opening events that I want sorted etc.  Can anyone give me any thoughts on these issues.  I'm about ready to disconnect ICloud completely but I'm afraid I'm going to loose several months worth of Calendar Events.
    Thanks,

  • Creating PDF through Adobe PDF print - Cannot open this file?

    Hello!
I have a user who I recently installed Acrobat X on their machine.  They are in a program called DSS and he when he goes to file --> Print and then selects Adobe PDF he gets errors when converting a map into a pdf.  It shows the Creating Adobe PDF box and has a progress bar.  Then an error box says Acrobat Distiller:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10\Acrobat\.......
    Cannot open this file.
Please check that the correct path and filename are given.
Magically it converts but the problem is with the errors and sometimes the conversion isnt accurate. What port does this need to be on becuae I notices it defaults to COM1???
Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Please have the user post, we need much more information. Operating System, Service Package, 32-bit/64-bit. If 64-bit is the program 32-bit or 64-bit native? Version of the program DSS.  What kind of program is DSS and who makes it? Googling DSS doesn't help much since there are several choices.

  • Installing CS5.5, got an error window that says "windows cannot open this file"

I download the CS5.5 files.  Clicked on the larger file to open it and received an error window stating that "windows cannot open this file".  Any suggestions?

    @caroline,
are both files in the same directory?
are you clicking the exe, not the 7z?
if yes to both, right click the exe and click 'run as administrator'.
if that fails, run the cleaner (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then click the exe.

  • Acrobat cannot open this file

    Hi-
While trying to generate or open pdf files in the last 24 hours, I've received this message:
"Acrobat cannot open this file while printing another document."  Then it lists the name of the pdf file I'm trying to open.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Looks like this was linked to the way we were streaming PDF to the browser.  Not sure what was fixed by the developer on that sequence, but it is working fine now.

  • Word cannot open this document.  The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document,  or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example,\ /).

I recently upgraded to a new Macbook Air running Lion, from my 2007 white Macbook running Snow Leopard.  I had Office for Mac 2004 on the 2007, but had to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 to be compatible with Lion on the Air.  Now when I try to open my documents on the Air that were saved under Office 2004 on the old computer, I get the following message: Word cannot open this document.  The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document,  or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example,\ /).
    Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Ha,ha,ha.....I figured it out.  But for anyone else who's having this problem, it seems that while Office 2004 allowed dates in this format: 00/00/00, Office 2011 doesn't like it at all.  I just changed the format in the document names to 00-00-00 and all is well.  Documents are opening beautifully!
