  • Not able to open office documents from SharePoint site using Forms auth on a Mac with Office 2011

I posted the same question on the Mac Office forum (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macstart/not-able-to-open-office-documents-from-sharepoint/7fba517b-ebd1-4e90-a54a-c70c5f035146?tm=1418836613595) but figured it's probably more
of a SharePoint question so I'm going to try here as well.
We just discovered an issue where a user logs into a SharePoint site using Forms based authentication.  When clicking on an Office file they get
'Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you' message:
The user can download the file and can also open the file within the browser (Office Web apps).  This SharePoint site is on a Web app that uses mixed authentication (forms for external partners) and Windows/Kerberos for internal employees.
When logging into this same site as an internal user I am able to open the file just fine.
I checked the 'Microsoft Document Connection' settings and selected and deselected 'Enable Basic Authentication' and neither helped.
I also tried to add the site URL under 'Microsoft Document Connection' -> Add connection -> Connect to a SharePoint site.  When I put the site URL in and click 'Connect', I get an error saying that 'Only connection to SharePoint or OneDrive
servers are supported' message.  If I try the same thing as an internal user using Windows/Kerberos authentication I am able to connect to the site just fine.
    Any ideas??

    Hi Szamir,
As you are using Form Based authentication to open the documents from SharePoint site, I recommend to check the things below:
Make sure that the user has permission to view the documents in the site.
Please select "Sign me in automatically" when you sign in the login page.

  • Opening/Saving documents from SharePoint 2013 in Firefox/Chrome bypasses Check Out and Check In

My clients have an Office365 installation with SharePoint 2013.
When I navigate to the site in IE and click on a checked-in document, it opens in Microsoft Word with a message
Server document  To modify this document you must check it out
with a Check Out button alongside.
However, if I navigate with Firefox or Chrome and click on the same link, it just downloads the document to the browser's default download location.  If I then open the document in Word, there is no
Server document warning and it is entirely writeable and it's also lost its link to the document library.
Is the work-around for this that one cannot use Firefox or Chrome with SharePoint, or is there some setting in these browsers that will bypass the download and load the document directly into Word?
    Thanks
    Edward

Does anyone have a better fix for this?  We are attempting to launch support for a second browser - Chrome - but because of the issue with Office 2010 on the clients, the protocol handler from Chrome fails to connect the requested document directly
to the MS Office app, but rather downloads the file.  IE Tab is not an option because it then defeats the purpose of having Chrome altogether since it simply uses IE8's engine.  IE8's performance with large lists on SharePoint 2013 as well as the
HTML5-based functionality is simply dreadful which is the primary driver for an alternative browser.
We are aware installing Office 2013 on a machine fixes it, but that is not an option due to the current licensing.
Hope for Chrome 31?  Firefox seems to work fine in our testing, but the organization wants to go Chrome instead of FF.

  • Problem to open Office documents from Sharepoint

    Hello All,
We have published SharePoint 2013 (NTLM authentication) via TMG 2010. However, we are having the following issue:
When users try to open (https connection) any Office Documents to Office 2013 they get prompted for credentials, then after they provide credentials they get "Sorry, we couldn't open <URL of the document>". The prompt for credentials is ok because
persistent cookies are not option for us. We don’t have Office Web Apps in use and we want to open documents to client application. Our company users machines are Windows 7, Office 2013 and Internet Explorer 10/11.
I made some tests and everything work fine with:
Windows 7, Office 2010 and Internet Explorer 10/11
Windows 7, Office 2013 and Internet Explorer 8
    Almost fine:
Windows 7, Office 2013 and Firefox (latest). With Firefox it works if I open any Office document from summary link list but not if I try to open from inside document library. If I open from document library (right click) to new tab or to new window it works
    fine.
Any ideas what’s going on? It must be something with IE 10/11 and Office 2013. I also tried with TMG persistent cookie and then I can open Office documents with IE 10/11.
I also checked with fiddler what happens and I can see that everything stops to 401 error.

    Hello Miikkal,
You need to enable SharePoint class in IE. Please follow this
    blog and follow this
    article.
Once, this is done you can Enable all the IE settings to load for Intranet and Trusted zone settings
Put your site in compatibility mode and trusted zone
Also, make sure that 2 versions of Office suite is not installed on the system.  Eg. Lync 2013 and Office 2010 on one single machine
What happen when you by pass your TMG server. To do this we need to make host entry for URL directed to APP server IP Address.

  • Cannot open iwork documents from within the iwork program

I am running OSX Mountain Lion on an imac 3.06 GHz core duo. Everything is uptodate. I have documents from Numbers, Pages and Keynote stored on icloud. I can see them when I go to icloud.com. When I try to open them from within any of the iwork programs, all I can see is greyed out document icons.

    Hello
It seems that Pages is coded to save an imported file (which is the case for a .doc one) in the folder from which it was imported.
When the folder belongs to a CD, this can't be done and Pages refuses to import the doc.
    I's not a bug, it's a feature.
Delberate or not is an other question.
If this feature is annoying from your point of you, described the problem to the official channel because here we are users trying to help other users.

  • Cannot open Excel documents in Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise

We keep having this recurring issue where sharepoint will not allow users to open Excel documents. They receive the error:

  • Cannot open Word documents from CD

Pages will not open read-only files from CD. While it is possible to copy the files from CD to the hard drive and open them from there, this work-around is not optimal. I use several resource CDs that contain Word files as well as other file types.
Instead of copying files from a CD in order to be able to open them, it makes much more sense to allow Pages to open them directly from the CD in read-only mode.
Is there a secret way to enable this behavior? If not, Apple, will you add this functionality to Pages?

Having a issue where opening a previous document version is not working in SharePoint 2013.

    It makes no difference.

    Hi,
You mentioned this works fine externally.  Internally are the sites HTTPS or HTTP?
If it is HTTP, what does the AAM map look like?  If it’s HTTPS, where does SSL terminate on the NLB/TMG or on the servers?
You mentioned you tried on multiple web applications, did you try and create a brand new one using just a server name as the URL?
If so what was the behavior?
You should be able to find the error message in the ULS logs.
Check all the servers, maybe it’s an unexpected server.  Also make sure that verbose logging is enabled.

  • I cannot open a document from an earlier version of pages.

Hope someone has a helpful solution for me.  I am trying to access my resume that I did in an earlier version of Pages.  I tried to open it today and saw an error saying that the document could not be opened.  I have tried researching this and basically have no solution.  I need my resume and don't know what to do. Has anyone else figured out a solution other than blowing up their computer?
    Sharon

Copy/paste from TextEdit works. The use of Pages v5 has created more problems than user solutions. Make certain you export to Word format as a backup. Pages v5.5.1 will make a huge 500Kb Word document. You will need to open and save it out from either MS Word, or the free LibreOffice to reduce it down to small double-digits in size.
Sharon, there is a Yosemite community under the general category of MacOS & System Software. Post your Yosemite questions there, and you should get competent answers to your questions. Responders to your question(s) will want to know the year and make of your Mac, how much memory is installed, and if you upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks, or an older OS X installation. The Apple > About this Mac can provide useful info. Be as concise as you can while still conveying the issue you want resolved. If you are running anti-virus software, state that as it is a known performance and stability decrement for OS X.
Yosemite is now one revision beyond the base release. Each new iteration of updates to Yosemite will fix bugs, attend to some usability issues, and improve performance. I am running Yosemite on a 2014 MacBook Air with 4GB of memory. It has been flawless — if not overly art-deco for my taste.

  • Word 2013 slow to open documents from SharePoint 2013

    Hi all,
Word 2013 running on a Windows 8.1 client is take 2 or more minutes to open a document from SharePoint 2013. Excel takes less then 10 seconds from the same site in SharePoint.
I have remove all proxy configuration from IE, clear the Auto Detect Settings. Added the URL's to the intranet zone and disabled all IE addons. I have also performed a reset on IE, reinstall of Office and tried a number of workstations. All have the same
issue. The document just take forever to open.
Checking with Fiddler, I can see 3 requests hit the SharePoint server then nothing... after a few minutes the document opens.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Hi Craig,
For troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
1.Open IE, go to "Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings" and uncheck "Auto Detect Proxy".
2.From the File tab in Word application, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for
    Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
3.Edit the registry at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open and deleting the ddeexec key.

  • Unable to modify any documents from sharepoint

We are using Office 2007 and WSS3.0 whenever I try to open a document from sharepoint I get the following error as shown in the image.

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/148/officesharepointerror.jpg/
I can upload documents to sharepoint but cannot edit them.
I have repaired and reinstalled Office 2007 to no avail. I am not a Sharepoint admin so I cannot perform any administrative changes to the Sharepoint site. I have a contributor role to the Sharepoint site.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi,
Not exactly the same error we had here, but users were able to upload docs, but not edit. Re-ran the webfldrs.msi and it fixed the issue. If your error is affecting everyone, then this may not be your fix.
Unable to edit Documents in SharePoint
    Error
User get s the following error message
“a problem occurred while connecting to the server” if the problem continues, contact your administrator
    Solution
Well it worked today for Jo Mallett, when all the windows updates, profile rebuilds and office installs didn’t, and this fix took no more than about 1 minute to implement.
It is not uncommon for the web folders / WebDAV support in Windows XP to just stop working for no apparent reason.
You can usually reinstall the original Web Folders support by finding and executing
    webfldrs.msi with specific options.
webfldrs.msi is probably in one of your system directories. It is easiest to search for it (remember to set advanced search options to include system and hidden folders). When you find the program (it’s a normal Microsoft install package) launch it, then
    do these steps:
    Click “Select Reinstall Mode”
Uncheck “Repair all detected reinstall problems”.
Check “Force all files to be reinstalled, regardless of checksum or version”.
Check “Verify that required user registry entries are present”.
Check “Verify that required machine registry entries are present”.
    Check “Validate shortcuts”.
    Press OK
    Click REINSTALL
    Normally no reboot is required.
Now the web folder client should have been restored as it was shipped.
If you previously installed Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306) from the Microsoft site, you may have to install it again.
    Mike
