Cannot output video to an LCD projector

I own a week 11 model of the Macbook Pro, and mine cannot ouput to an LCD projector at work. Everytime I hook it up and try to detect displays, I get a signal for almost a second, then it goes out of sync and then the projector tells me the signal is lost or out of sync. Other co-workers of mine own Macbook Pro's (in particular a week 22 model) and they perform fine.
I was told earlier that the early manufactured Macbook Pro's had a defective video out, and I was wondering if anyone had anymore information regarding this.
Macbook Pro (1.54", 2.0 Ghz Intel Duo Core, 2GB RAM)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Firmware 1.0.1

Does someone know what I really need?
In the short term what you need is to post this in the right forum. You posted this in the Panther and earlier OS forum but your computer information says you're using Leopard, but that doesn't matter because this is really a hardware problem and would best be off in the forum for your computer. I'll ask it be moved there.

  • NVIDEA outputs digital signal to LCD projector

We are having a different problem with connecting to LCD projectors at our school. The problem seems to result from a Crestron media manager between the MBP and the projector. the MBP connects via the DVI-to-VGA adaptor. If the MBP has the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, it sends a digital signal to the projector and nothing shows up on the screen. Displays preference panel shows the 2nd monitor as "Digital 170T." There are 3 MBPs showing this behavior. one older MBP with an ATI Radeon X1600 card connects just fine. My G4 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 also worked (for over 3 years). both show a "VGA" connection in Displays preference panel.
The NVIDIA MBPs can connect directly to an LCD projector and output a VGA signal that works. it seems that the intermediate Crestron system is not sending a signal that the NVIDIA requires to know it is connected to a VGA display. and of course, Crestron is telling our support people it is not their problem; NVIDEA's web support doesn't even touch Mac topics.
So how do we convince the NVIDIA card to output a VGA signal from the DVI port?

Nvidia Control Panel. Change the video output. Should work.

  • Quicktime Video on an LCD Projector Problems & Refresh Rate?

I'm having an issue and don't have a lot of experience with this but hopefully someone has some insight.
When i play back video (formats including DV, DV50, HDV, PRORES422 / interlaced or progressive / frame rates of 23.98 or 29.97) in full screen using Quicktime Player (version 7.4.5) and Present (Shift CMD F) to a projector, the video plays and looks good, with the exception of during certain portions of the video (generally, with a lot of motion), i see either a flicker or what appears to be a scan line, tear, or a trace that scrolls vertically up the image. The flickering/trace is consistent with regard to a particular portion of the video, though when i adjust the refresh rate for the projector, the behavior of the flicker or scrolling trace changes (say at 60hz, it scrolls slowly up vs 85hz where i see mostly flickering/tearing of the image or multiple traces scrolling up). I've tried 3 different projectors, and every combination of screen resolution and refresh rate with no success.
I should point out that when i play these videos full screen on a cinema display (20in or 23in) i don't see this behavior at all.
So, i have a few specific questions:
    1. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and any solutions?
    2. The projector is connected with a VGA cable and DVI adapter. Might a DVI cable resolve the issue? Is the behavior a result of the analog input? (The cinema displays are connected via DVI and don't exhibit the behavior)
    3. If it is a projector issue, any recommendations on a good projector for presenting video played back from a computer?
Thanks in advance for your help. If i've posted in the incorrect forum, please do direct me to the right place.
    Shane

Just a fast reply... something to think about...
Use 60hz, most lcd are 60hz. Check you resolution specs for the projector. If the native resolution is 800x600 use that setting if higher use that.....
If your using the lcd as a secondary display try setting the main display to the same specs. Sometime a mismatch between the two displays can cause problems.
Go with the lcd spec settings that's the main priority and the main display isn't.

  • Satellite S1410-802 cannot play videos on LCD Data Projector

    Hi,
when I connect my Toshiba S1410-802 to LCD Data Projector and I start any video (in WMP and any other programs) all I see on the wall is black video window but everything around is displayed properly (i.e. desktop and other open windows). On laptop screen video is shown correctly. Sum up: I can watch videos on laptop but when I switch to the projector I can see everything except the video (black window)! Any guess?
    Regards, Artur

    Hello Artur
I am not 100% sure but I believe you can not watch video at the LCD and external device at the same time and you can watch it on the LCD or external device only.
Please test it. As far as I know it is technical limitation.

  • HD video LCD projector

My HD video won't play on the LCD projector I have at school. I don't have the option to change my connector or display that I know of. Can I downgrade the video quality so it will play? Can I just run an HDMI chord to the projector from my computer

    Hello, Mike.
I am guessing that the message was: "This movie cannot be played because a display that is not authorized to play protected movies is connected."  To view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and also support HDCP.  If the projector is HDCP compliant, then the issue would be related to the connect between the Mac and the projector.  I would recommend trying with one of the approved digital connectors.

  • Best technique for playing back video through LCD projectors

I recently created a  15 minute project in CS4.  I burned it to a DVD and it plays smoothly on a computer and DVD player.  I had a auditorium full of people and used a laptop to play the DVD to the LCD projector and the video was stuttery - fast motion, correct motion, and back again.  It was not horrible, but I noticed it.  What is the best workflow to output the highest qualtiy and best playback to projector?  I started with HDV footage and downsampled it to MPEG-DVD.  I customized the preset to max at 8 and target at 5.  Would flash look and work better?  I don't know what make and model the projector was because it was mounted to the ceiling.  I noticed this behavior once before on a different projector, same laptop.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Target at 5 is pretty low, unless you are over 110 minutes duration. Since you mentioned only 15 minutes it is definitely too low.
Did you use this DVD-HQ  Bitrate & GOP calculator ? That will give you much better quality.

  • HT4108 I have a projector and I want to show output video all the time, but I can only get it to work on safari

I have a projector and I was looking for an app that would allow output video all the time

The one you are looking at I believe is an older model and does not have very good reviews for working with an AppleTV2 / iPad 2 setup.
Here is the one that has worked for our district:

I can't say if the one you are referring two works or not, however I can say that based on the reviews, it looks like you may run into problems with the $45 version.

  • "Cannot play video - The Connected display is not supported" error message using Netflix 5.0.2 on my iPad

I'm running iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd gen) and have just upgraded to the current version of the Neflix app available in the Canadian App Store (5.0.2).
Although all other apps I've tried (e.g. Podcast, VLC) are able to properly output video & audio directly to my TV using the HDMI adapter (i.e. NOT via an Apple TV), the Netflix app pops up the error message "Cannot play video - The connected display is not supported".  If I start a video and then plug the HDMI cable in, it will play for a few seconds and then halt with the same error message.
Netflix & Apple were supposed to have been working together to fix the previous issue with this scenario which was causing audio to be output but no video.  The current Netflix app update was released yesterday and seems to have taken a step backward.
When I contacted Netflix support, they indicated that they have done whatever can be done from their side and this is now Apple's issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Kiron

    Hello all,
I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

Expanding on what deggie said, with an iPad 1 the app you're using must support video out. Only the iPad 2 can mirror the screen. The apps included with the iPad that output to external monitors are given here:

For third-party apps, consult the app's documentation or contact the developer.

  • How do i connect my macbook pro retina display to lcd projector

How do i connect my macbook pro retina display to lcd projector?

  • How do I connect a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina to an Epson Power Lite 61p LCD Projector?

I am trying to attach an Epson PowerLite 61p LCD Projector to my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, but I cannot find which type of adapter I need. I would assume whichever adapter is required it must connect via thunderbolt. However, I do not know if the required adapter is a "Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter," "Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter," or a "Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter." I would deeply appreciate your help and guidance. Thanks!

It does not matter whether you get an Apple adapter or a third pary one.  What you have there is a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter, but as you know, your new MacBook no longer has an MDP port!
Thunderbolt to VGA adapters do not exist but there are plenty of HDMI to VGA adapters out there:

  • Can't connect MBP to LCD projector using DVI-TO-VGA adapter

I am trying to connect my MacBookPro to a Hitachi CP-X885 projector, which I normally connect an IBM Thinkpad to at 800x600 or 1024x768. I also use my MBP and the VGA adapter to connect to other LCD projectors and monitors (so my adapter works, as well as both systems, projector, cables, etc.). Problem is, that when I connect my MBP to the projector (I have to connect it via VGA as there is a 250 foot cable that goes to the front where the rear-projection takes place). When I do the "detect displays" nothing is detected. I also connected directly to the projector using a shorter cable, same thing (doesn't detect it). So, is the projector not supplying some type of signal to the output, that the MBP wants to see?)... is there a way to FORCE the MPB to have output? I know that if there is signal, it will display (we have LOTS of notebooks that display to the projector just fine, BUT have SEVERAL MBP's, and NONE of them will detect, and we've tried several adapters (just to be sure)... HELP!... is there some way to FORCE output from the MBP instead of it having to DETECT IT???
    Thanks!

Sorry Walter, but according to the Terms of Use (which you agreed to the first time you logged in to the Discussions and can be found if you click on the "Help" link to the right):
Do not post a URL unless it directly answers a user's question.
The URL you post does not answer David's original question. Also, it could potentially void his warranty because a firmware hack (and this is indeed a link to a "hack") is an unauthorized alteration to the hardware of his computer. ("Software" can only be installed on the hard drive and that hack is not installed on the hard drive, it's installed on the firmware on a chip inside the logic board.)
I don't want to take this thread off-topic, but your reply does NOT help David's situation. I would, however, value your input and anyone else's to this and any other topic in the Discussions as long as it is pertinent to the original subject.

  • How to output video to TV or Home Theatre? (iphone)

How to output video to TV or Home Theatre? (iphone)

I recently bought a AV projector and was asked by a smirky but envious friend the same question, after watching me hook up my powerbook, having already purchased an ipod video 30gig with the UNIVERSAL DOCK with remote control and ifrared remote control I remembered reading about it also working with the iphone, so it having a s-video output with a audio mini output port, I plugged the iphone into it and it came up with a little message saying this is not a iphone compatible device, and asked me to turn on airport, I ignored the request and it just clicked over to the itunes section, I picked a video and presto instant big screen projection TV off the iphone, How IMPRESSIVE! then I went to utube launched a utube video and wow how cool it also played seamlessly, although it pays to let the Youtube videos buffer for a minute to get a better play off the EDGE net work verse the Wi-Fi, I plan on having lots of out door theatre shows this summer with this very compact multi-media package, What a hoot! Get the universal dock no glitches!
