Cannot pass login screen in kdemod

Hi all,
I get the login screen, and when I enter my username and password, it shows me the login sreen again instead of my desktop. From the console I can login properly.
thanks a lot

Thanks Wailer,
I tried what you said, but it didn't work for me. I have set /etc/inittab as you mentioned among other combinations, but none of them seem to work. Moreover, any change in inittab doesn't seem
to have any effect on the login process.
Here is my last configuration:

  • MacBook Pro won't go pass login screen, help?!

MacBook Pro using OS X Maverick won't go past login screen once password is entered. It looks like it wants to go to my account once I enter in my password but it never goes beyond that. The gears just continue to spin without ever actually loading my account.
I tried to boot in safe mode and even though I pushed and hold down the alt key while the computer is restarting, it just goes right to my login screen where my account picture is still in tact and I'm still holding the shift key. I've tried everything short of reinstalling from my install disk because my install disk in snowleopard. What do I do?!

Ah, I understand a bit better now.
I propose to "recover" your OSX, it will not touch your user data (but of course you have backups ).
    a. Start up while holding the CMD+R keys, it should result in a window with 4 options:
first choose "Disk Utility" and click "verify disk" if it shows the disk.
If the disk verifies ok, quit the DiskUtility and choose the "Recovery" option and recover your OS.
This is a Recovery from your own disk.
    b. If you will not come into this window or a. does not work as said,  start up while holding CMD+R+Alt keys, this will start the same but then from internet (so you must have an internet connection).
    the rest is the same.
Do you succeed to restore OSX?

  • Cannot find Login Screen in System- Administration

    Hi, all
I have gdm and gnome installed and want to change my gdm login screen theme, but I can't find Login Screen setting in System->Administration. Did I forget to install some packages?
    Many thanks.

No, since gnome 2.28 gdm doesn't have any GUI management tool ( as far as I know... )
( this is a bit strange to me too, since gdm is essentially a GUI being )
see the solution in the wiki!
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome_2.28_Changes
    section 3.11
    section 4.7
Thanks. I've seen that wiki and it seems if I want to modify gdm login screen, I have no choice but to downgrade gdm, since in Configuring gdm 2.28 section there's no workaround for modifying gdm login screen.

  • I downloaded the new os7 on my Ipad mini. Now in order to use the ipad I need to use a passcode. I cannot get pass the login screen and I never set up my ipad to use a passcode. What can I do?

I downloaded the new os7 on my ipad mini. Now in order to use the Ipad, I need to enter a passcode. I cannot get pass this screen. I did
not set it up to use a passcode. What can I do? I am not too computer savy.

I have the same problem. I upgraded to iOS7, entered my usual passcode when prompted in setup, and when I tried to access my iPad after installation was finished it denied my passcode. I can't connect to any internet to erase it or anything because the new iOS hasn't yet been configured to a wifi network, so I can't backup from anything either.
When I connect the iPad to iTunes, it tells me that Find My iPad must be disabled on my iPad before backup or restore can continue - and I can't access anything beyond the lock screen of my iPad at all because it refuses to accept my passcode, so I can't get to Find My iPad.

  • Ix2 fails to respond, cannot get past login screen

I am having intermittent problems with my Iomega ix2 failing to respond. After some time being on the drive fails to respond. I cannot open any files through Windows explorer. If i attempt to connect using the web interface i cant get past the login screen. I put in my user name and password and hit enter. The page simply reloads the login screen. The only solution is to power the drive down using the button on the back of the unit. Powering it up it works fine. Eventually though this will happen again. It's happened a half dozen time or more in the last few days. Now I'm stuck out in the field and cannot access any files. Please help.

No. No errors in the event log of any kind other than the time sync error. I recently replaced one of the disks as it had failed. I receieved a warranty disk from Lenovo/Iomega about a month ago. i installed it and it rebuilt the RAID with no problems. This error has been happening since then. When the time sync error happens i get all kinds of strange behavior. SFTP, which is how I access the files, will start giving Goodsync 'cannt reach end of file error' type errors. Like I've mentioned before I also get an issue where the web login screen gets caught in a loop too. I type in the user name and the password, hit enter, and it just reloads the login screen again. Rebooting the device from the power button on the back is the only solution.

  • Cannot click through on login screens

While I have no problem connecting to WiFi at sites that do not require login screens, I cannot connect on those that do. At both Caribou Coffee (where connectivity is via Wandering WiFi) and Borders Books (where connectivity is via Verizon), trying to connect to the WiFi brings up a login screen requiring me to click a button with a label like "Accept terms and conditions." In each case, clicking does nothing. I also cannot do a spread-zoom on what is displayed. I have tried waiting for up to fifteen minutes for each, in case something critical was loading very slowly.
I have no problem connecting at these sites with my laptop, and friends have no problem connecting using the iPod Touch, so it seems like something specific to the iPhone.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I have had similar problems for the past year. No problem with my powerbook using OS X 10.4/Safari. Interestingly, the problems began after upgrading to OS 3.0. Prior to that, I was able to connect via Safari on the iPhone without problems.
Currently, I am sometimes able to connect, other times, the log-in screen begins to load, then simply disappears. It seems that there is some incompatibility with the code/script that Caribou/Wandering WiFi use. I have tried re-setting the phone, network settings, etc. without success.
Other people have had similar problems at Borders - see (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2235710&tstart=15)

  • ARD Login Screen Flashes; cannot connect to client

I have a Macbook Pro running ARD 3.4 under Leopard in my office.
Recently I purchased several new iMacs running Snow Leopard. I have set up 5 of them, but on one of them I cannot login with ARD. I can see the computer on the Scanner list of machines. When I click on it the first time login screen flashes very rapidly on my screen then disappears. I cannot enter my user name or password because it is gone so quickly. What do I do to trouble shoot this?

One thing I found, when trying to put a client system into ARD, is that the IP address currently assigned to the system being entered is the same IP that was used by a different system previously entered the ARD "All Computers" list.  This "old" system IP is held in ARD even though DHCP has expired the lease and given the IP to the "new" system.
What I end up doing is deleting the "old" system from ARD and then doing a scan, finding the "new" system and putting it into ARD.  When the "old" system comes back on line, you will have to do another scan to put it back into ARD.
One other problem I have run into, but can not make happen on a repeatable basis is that a client system will, for no appearent reason, drop off the ARD server's list and then only show up as a "black" computer on subsequent scans.  It can not be put back into the ARD list of computers.  Sometimes Screen Sharing will work but other times even screen sharing does not work.  The only thing I found that will reliably clear this problem is to totally remove ALL ARD and Remote Management related files, including the hidden files, restarting the computer and downloading and installing a new copy of the ARD client and then putting it back into the ARD server's list.

  • Cannot get past login screen

I cannot get past the login screen. I ran the disk utility to verify/repair my hard drive. The tool fixed a minor sequencing issue which resulted in a "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. That did not fix the problem. Next, I tried booting in safe mode. I cannot. I'm thinking my next step is to reinstall the OS X from the Mac Utilities Suite. My fear is that it is going to erase my Hard Drive. True? Will performing this function erase my locally stored data (files, photos contained with iPhoto)?

  • My login screen is now zoomed in and I cannot change it.

My login screen has all of a sudden become zoomed in.  But once I'm logged in, the screen size/zoom is back to normal.  What is going on here?

Ok, solved it by resetting the PRAM (ALT+CMD+P+R while booting, you can find detailed steps anywhere on the interwebs)
I believe the resolution changed, so it wasn't a "zoom" issue afterall.
When you are in your startup/logon screen (the screen where you type your password) try pressing ALT+CMD+F5 (you might have to press Fn too to get to F5 instead of the keyboard-light button).  You'll be presented with all sorts of accessibility options, one of the first ones is the zoom function.  But it doesn't seem active, because the zoom-slider is already on its lowest value.
Anyway, clearing the PRAM should fix your issue.

  • MBP running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.8 cannot get past login screen even in safe boot

Help!  I have a Macbook Pro purchased in 2009, running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.8 which froze while running Adobe Illustrator.  On reboot, it won't allow me to go past the login screen.  I tried starting up from the disc, running disk verification and repair and repairing disk permissions, and trying to start up in safe boot, all to no avail.  When the login screen comes up it gives the name of my hard drive with a (2) after it, which seems strange.  Any suggestions short of reinstalling the system software?  I don't want to lose my applications/data!

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Launch the Activity Monitor utility. Pull down the list near the top and set it to "All Processes". Click on the "CPU" column heading to put the highest CPU consumers at the top. Also click on the "CPU" tab in the lower part of the window to check the value for "% Idle". If that value is much above zero, check the other categories for signs of resource problems. If nothing there points to a possible problem, launch the Console utility and look for messages that might suggest a problem. If you see messages that you have trouble interpreting, post them here and someone should be able to help.

  • Cannot enter password into Windows 8.1 login screen

I hve  brand new Pavilion 15-P016AX notebook, runnign Windows 8.1.
I have not used it, simply gone through the user setup and connected to th internet. I assume some HP and/or Windows updtes have probably installed themselves in the meantime, but that would be the only change from the factory settings.
On power-up, the first screen which comes up is the standard scren with a clock and the date. I click on this screen and a second screen appears, asking for my login password.
I can click in to the password box, but any typing on the keyboard does not result in any entry to the password box. No asterisks appear at all.
All other icons on this page are active, however. Even the icon (the right facing arrow) to submit the password is active.  I can submit the password, and I am told I have entered the wrong password. Other icons like the on/off icon are also active.
Now, if I put the notebook into sleep mode, then awaken it, the same startup routine happens, but this time I can enter the password and log on.
The onyl solution I can find is to disable passwords on my account, however I would prefer to have password protection.
    Any ideas?

I unplug the keyboard from it's USB  socket, then re-plug it into the same, or another USB socket. This always works for me. The problem only occurs during approx20% of my login attempts seemingly at random.  I  bought new keyboard but this made no difference. I have a "power on" password set (in the BIOS) on my computer. There is never a problem typing this. The problem only occurs at the Windows login screen. I understand that this problem has been around since Windows XP. Maybe Windows 10 will fix it - or maybe it won't.
I have an HP computer running Windows 8.1 that is set up to install updates automatically.

Upon restart of my computer the user icons appear but I am not able to select either of the two of them so as to get the password dialog box. The trackpad will move the pointer but I am not able to select anything, icon or sleep, restart, shut down buttons.

Are you tapping to click or physically clicking the trackpad? Tapping won't work in the login screen.
