Cannot Perform a System Recovery

It is still covered under warranty.
My problem:
about a month ago (maybe a little more) my machine automatically did an update, and after it was complete I was able to get to the sign in screen but once I was signed on I had nothing but a black screen and my cursor. I could not pull up the task manager or perform any functions. I was able to restore my machine to a previous date and used it again for about a week before the update ran again and the exact same thing happened. The second time around I did not have any restore points that were prior to the update so a system restore did absolutely no good. I booted in safe mode and tried to do a clean boot to see if something may have been preventing the update from completing properly but no luck.
I then tried a system recovery and it failed, I don't recall what it said about why it failed but now all it does when I start it up is makes me choose a Keyboard layout and then choose an option between "Continue; exit and continue to HP Recovery Manager" "Use a Device" "Use another Operating system" "troubleshoot" and "turn off your PC."
It doesn't even let me boot up the machine.

I fixed it.
Just chose the option "Troubleshoot" then chose "Reset your PC"
It is now at factory settings like when I originally purchased it which is what I was looking for. The only problem now is that I cannot use my keyboard. I am going to look for a driver.

Windows Vista/Service Pack 2-after performing a System Recovery my Hard Drive is full.
I would like to thank you in advance for your patience. I am new to this forum solution method. I will do my best to explain what is happening with my computer without too much unnecessary information.
My laptop is 2 yrs old and it all these error messages started popping up repeatedly. Windows Defender wouldn't open, system info errors, I/E crashes and so on. After numerous attempts to fix it myself, I asked Microsoft support for the solution. M/S Tech Support instructed me to perform a System Recovery, through the startup/F-11 method and so I did. I followed all of M/S instructions and to skip the step for making a set of Backup disks, as well as the Recovery Manager's steps to complete the recovery. After all was done I noticed that all my personal files, (pic's, music, etc...), were gone and that my Hard Drive is out of space. I did a Disk Cleanup and defrag on both the C: and D: drives hoping that it would solve my problem. NOT!!! I have been looking through all the "Trouble shooting" support topics on both MS and HP. I have been afraid of doing any of the MANY suggested steps for fear of causing more damage. The computer, except for the D: drive delima and Windows Defender not opening, seems to function properly, so I look at that as the real blessing in all this.
Please help me by telling me that there is a way to fix the Hard drive and get Windows Defender to respond. Most importantly, how to go about getting it done. I just don't know how or why this happened.

On some models, you can perform a recovery from the partition on the hard drive from either the Start
button or f11. This restores the computer to it's factory condition.
To restore the system from the partition, follow these steps:
1. Access Recovery Manager in either of the following ways:
● Select Start > All Programs > Recovery Manager > Recovery Manager.
– or –
● Restart the computer and press f11 while the “Press <F11> for recovery” message is displayed
on the screen. Then select Recovery Manager.
Recovery Manager opens.
2. Click Advanced Options.
3. Click System recovery, and then click Next.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions
Does this sound like what you did?
Oh yeah, Your D:\ drive is your Recovery partition and you should never mess with it.
It contains all the information to restore your computer to factory condition. -
"Disk read error occurred" cannot even load System Recovery
Hello,
yesterday I powered on my computer, and it was almost froze, with only the mouse moving and even the task manager not showing up when called.
I first tried to make it go in standby, as I thought it was some program which didnt start as planned. After I closed the screen , the screen went black, but the pc continued to run. I then pressed the power button, shutting the system the hard way.
After that, I powered back the pc, which now only showed "Disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" and obviously this wasnt the solution. I tried resetting the BIOS, then running the diagnostics on f2: it ALWAYS passes the test the first time, then if i try to run the diagnostics again, it says "NOT INSTALLED". I tried running the system recovery on f11, but the same "disk read error" appears.
I-ve already confirmed the problem lies in the hard disk itself {hitachi 750gb}, having plugged it in another notebook with an hitachi hard disk and still showing the same problem, while the other hard disk booted just fine in my HP.
I tried with a win7 cd, both recovering and installing a new version, but they both kept frozen for about 1 hour and did nothing.
I then made a bootable USB with Trinity Recovery Kit and after a quick diagnostic, it said boot partition has "unclean" windows files and tried fixing the problem, without success. I-m now writing from a bootable USB linux distro, because i cannot find a bootable iso oh hitachi recovery program, what should I do?
Is it possible the hard disk failed so bad for an uncommon closure of the system? It looks to me like some data got corrupted.
Please help me, as I-m an academy student and I use the PC for almost everything.
Thank you.I-ve booted Boot Repair 64bit and tried repairing the boot section... i even checked the boot infos and printed an info file, can someone answer what the actual FOG is happening here?

Cannot perform Mac OSX recovery need help

I am hoping that I can find the help to my issue here as I need this machine up for business. I m having trouble reinstalling the OS as it is stating that it cannot find the system folder (folder with ?). I have tried to perform recovery installation holding down command R and also the other option of holding X down whilst boot up but it seems the keyboard shortcuts are not working or is there a more serious problem. I tied the RAID sets yesterday and all came back all drives seem to be ok. I am baffled as to what I can do. Any help is always appreciated.
RegardsYou have no recovery partition. This is a normal condition if your boot volume is a RAID.
You have several options for reinstalling.
1. If you have access to a local, unencrypted Time Machine backup volume, and if that volume has a backup of a Mac (not necessarily this one) that was running the same major version of OS X and did have a Recovery partition, then you can boot from the Time Machine volume into Recovery by holding down the option key at the startup chime. Encrypted Time Machine volumes are not bootable, nor are network backups.
2. If your Mac shipped with OS X 10.7 or later preinstalled, or if it's one of the computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery, you may be able to netboot from an Apple server by holding down the key combination option-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
3. Use Recovery Disk Assistant (RDA) on another Mac running the same major version of OS X as yours to create a bootable USB device. Boot your Mac from the device by holding down the option key at startup.Warning: All existing data on the USB device will be erased when you use RDA.
Once you've booted into Recovery, the OS X Utilities screen will appear. Follow the prompts to reinstall OS X. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
If none of the above choices is open to you, then you'll have to start over from an OS X 10.6.8 installation. There's no need to overwrite your existing boot volume; you can use an external drive. Install 10.6 from the DVD you originally used to upgrade, or that came with the machine. Run Software Update and install all available updates. Log into the App Store with the Apple ID you used to buy 10.7 or later, and download the installer. When you run it, be sure to choose the right drive to install on. -
Cannot force destructive system recovery from recovery disc set Pavilion a1630n
I have a Pavilion a1630n. This desktop originally came with windows xp media center edition 2005.
I had exercised the windows vista home premium express upgrade several/many years ago.
I attempted to restore the computer after getting malware or virus infected. I found that microsoft system restore had been turned off and no system restore points were available. The set of vista system recovery discs that I had made after the os upgrade were also seemingly unuseable. I attempted to perform a destructive system recovery from the external discs that I had purchased in 2009. The recovery seemed to take place from the hard drive only and did not request recovery disc 2 or 3.
I now have a windows xp operating system with no files in the hp recovery partition except hidden files. An attempt to run another recovery returns a message that the recovery partition not found! no software is available for reinstallation. hardware tests that I have run show no problems with any hardware.
I've attempted to various combinations of restarts per the support documents wither using the f10 or esc key to no avail.
Ideally I would like to know that the hard drive was successfully formatted and that the recovery takes place from the system recovery discs that I had purchased. (I'm fairly sure that the discs worked at one point as I used them prior to the windows vista upgrade.) I believe that the discs are still in good condition as I can browse the discs on the laptop that I am using. I've also written and read cd's successfully but I have not attempted to read or write a dvd format.At power on the menu options listed are

F10 Recovery
I tried f9 per your suggestion since this is not a defined key. I can see the optical drive access the disk with the blinking cursor....after a minute or two the computer boots from the hard drive and does NOT attempt to perform system recovery.
I have set the to boot from the optical drive first (tsst corp ts-h652m)
The optical drive is accessed but eventually (after a minute or two) the computer boots up from the hard drive.
If I change the bios settings to only boot from the optical drive after a few minutes I receive the following message
" Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter"

Compaq presario cq61 312sa wont perform a system recovery from hard drive
When i turn on my Compaq Presario CQ61 312SA it looks like it is going to start ok then flicks to a white page with page cannot be found???
i have tried and would like to completely restore to it's original settings but when i turn it on and repeatedly press F11 it just beeps constantly and has a blank screen for ages.

If you can still read the windows 7 product key on the bottom of your notebook you can make your own W7 installation disk.
Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Problem when performing a system recovery on Envy 15 1050nr
I have a problem when peforming a factory reset using the recovery discs (3 discs) I created shortly after I purchased the laptop.
when the recovery process gets to 83%, it gives me the error below :
"Recovery Manager could not restore your computer. Please contact HP support. Error code: 0xe0f00013"
I ran HD self test, which doesnt show any problems.

LeonThe simplest way to reinstall iPhoto and iMovie is to download Pacifist and then extract the relevant applications from the Software Restore Discs.
Pacifist comes with instructions; this is not a difficult operation and there is no need for erase & install to recover the applications.
Pacifist is Shareware, but you need not pay the fee in order to use it. Every time that you open Pacifist you will be prompted to purchase a licence. If you feel that Pacifist is worth the money (and I think that it is), you can purchase a licence at any stage.
If you're a plonker like me, then purchasing a licence will provide justification for third party developers like CharlesSoft to save the day for the rest of us.

System recovery disk failure Toshiba C655-S5300
I tried using the FACTORY system recovery disks on my son's Toshiba C655-S5300 laptop. During the installation of the first disk, the installation appears to bog down and stop.The disk drive begins "chugging", and will keep doing so. I terminated the recovery and made the mistake of reformatting the HDD. Therefore, I cannot perform a system recovery form the HDD. A subsequent try at recovery resulted in the exact same thing at the same time in the recovery process.
I thought that maybe the HDD was bad, so I tried it on a spare HDD of identical specs. It does the same thing on that HDD! Both HDDs appear to be still functioning well, so something else is wrong.
Does this mean that the factory recovery disks are bad? What other things can cause this? What other options do I have to restore my son's computer?

DaveIt does sound like the most likely cause is bad recovery discs. However, there could also be a hardware failure in the laptop such as the optical drive although this is less common.

Problems with restoring my iTunes library after performing an HP backup and system recovery
Hello,
Last Sunday night/Monday morning, I had to perform a system recovery (from the discs supplied by HP) on my HP Compaq Presario SR5310F 32-bit desktop computer running Windows Vista Home Premium, (on the recommendation of samone at HP) and just backing up my 90+ GB iTunes library took 12 hours (the actual system recovery took only about 2-1/2 hours, the following morning). After the recovery process was complete, I 'restored' the backed-up files by either double-clicking or just opening the first backup file (the one whose file name ends in '.1') and following the prompts, which placed the files into something called the 'System Restore Files' folder. I thought I could just restore my iTunes library by dragging and dropping the music, video and iTunes folder files from this System Restore Files folder back into their original places on my computer, but while the song titles did show up in my iTunes library, whenever I tried to actually play one, an exclamation point would appear beside the song's title and I'd get the error message 'iTunes cannot find the file'; when I clicked on 'Find missing file'--or whatever it's called--the C < Users < [username] < Music folder would open, and it would be completely blank, with only the words 'This folder is empty' appearing in it. (And BTW, before you try to recommend the 'Finding missing content in iTunes' or 'How to find missing music in iTunes' articles to me, I should point out that I did try all of the steps in those articles, but my iTunes library was still completely empty at that point, despite trying those steps; that was why I finally tried 'dragging and dropping all of those files back into the Desktop, Downloads, Documents--yes, some really large download files, not from iTunes, showed up in the Documents folder--and also a couple of downloaded music files--again, not from iTunes--showd up 'loose' [by 'loose', I mean not in one of the folders (e.g., Documents, Downloads etc.) in my [username] subfolder] in my [username] subfolder, after which, I was able to get most of my song and video titles listed in iTunes again, but they just won't PLAY! Also, it appears I'm missing about 5 GB from my iTunes library now, as it's saying that I only have about 85.15 GB worth of files in it, where before I had 90+ GB worth of files in it.)
BTW, I can play the files I moved to Desktop, Downloads, etc. if I right-click on the individual files in these locations and then click on 'Play' or 'Open With', but they just won't play in iTunes.
And one more thing: I stupidly deleted my 2 iTunes podcast file titles after I discovered that these, too, would not play; is there any way I can recover these--and my iTunes library--without performing yet ANOTHER system recovery and starting over 'from scratch'? (But if that's what I'll have to do, I'll do it--or else I'll just give up and start all over again with the new computer I plan to buy over the Labor Day weekend [it'll be a 64-bit Windows 7 computer, I know that much at least], as most of my music was ripped from CDs or else downloaded from places like Bandcamp or Amazon MP3, and these downloads were saved to a series of USB flash drives; I was informed that if worst came to worst, I could redownload my iTunes purchases, but my 2 podcasts will be lost forever, as iTunes doesn't 'keep' those--or words to that effect...)
P.S. The computer I'm using has only a 250 GB hard drive, of which 223 GB were available, I couldn't perform the 'Consolidate' function so I could properly back up my iTunes library, as, what with the accumulated Windows downloads (I got this computer in February 2008) and other programs, I had only a few (< 10) GB free--not enough to consolidate the iTunes library, and second, the computer malfunctioned just prior to my performing the system recovery, so that I could no longer log on in 'normal' mode, only in the various safe modes. A lady at Microsoft told me I could back up my iTunes library by logging on in safe mode with networking (since I could do that, albeit with the error message 'Your account has been loaded with a temporary profile') and pasting my iTunes library to my external hard drive, but when I tried this, I got a message listing my iTunes library as '(empty)' when I clicked on iTunes in 'All Programs', and needless to say, my iTunes library wouldn't even open in any of the safe modes (I don't know whether it was 'just' my computer, or whether the lady didn't know what she was talking about--she does work for Microsoft, after all).OK, before you moved the iTunes folder did the library contain entries for your original files?
This is the normal layout of the iTunes folders. From what you said at the outset it would seem that, as far as that copy of your library is concerned, it thinks the media folder is C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Not quite sure where you have moved the original set of library files to (that is the five files listed above and the Album Artwork folder) but you should move these to C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes, (leaving everything else in place) then click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and hold down the left shift key until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the library file at C:\System Recovery Files\C\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl - fingers crossed this will open your old database, which will be able to find your old files. If that goes well we can look to moving them somewhere more sensible.

Lost all Outlook messages when I performed a full system recovery.
I performed a system recovery [set unit back to factory settings] on my HP Pavilion with Vista and unexpectedly lost all Outlook emails. I thought I would retain all emails until I deleted them from my actual email account; such as Cox.net or Hotmail. Further, When I went to sign up again for Outlook, thinking I could somehow go to Outlook.com and find the deleted messages, I was forced to sign up for Windows Mail. Now I cannot sign in to Outlook.com. Any ideas? Or, have I simply lost all the old emails?
Your question is too intricated but I have tried to deduce the possible. Look at them one by one.
1.) Microsoft Outlook and Outlook.com are different types modes of email communication. If you are striving to access MS Outlook’s database which is somehow lost during factory settings of machine, then search the PST file which you was using prior to reset. If you find, then append it with your Outlook.
Note: Sometimes, data gets manipulated during such practices, so its better to repair Outlook PST file using scanpst.exe. Nevertheless, if you don’t not find any data (even if you may have detected PST file), then recovery of PST data using any third party utility (like: Outlook PST Repair Tool) is only possible way to get back data.
2.) I cant say as I do why you are not able to login into your Outlook.com. Maybe, you have changed its login details or something else due to which you are not able to figure out. Were you using 2-step verification for your Outlook.com. In particular, if you were using such kind feature, then reset your password and you would be successfully regain the accessability.

Windows Server 2008 R2 System Recovery Options - No disks!

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM running on CITRIX XenCentre v5.6 SP2.
The XenCentre host is a HP ProLiant DL 580 G7.
The VM's C:/ is hosted on a SAN which is controlled by DataCore SANSymphony-V PSP2.
I need to perform some work to resolve an underlying issue with the 2008 VM which requires me to perform a 'System Recovery'. When I do this however I am presented with the attached screen shot which lists no drives to repair.
Looks like 'Load Drivers' is the way to go but what drivers am I supposed to load? Xen drivers? DataCore drivers? Generic drivers? anyone know?

My HDD was recently badly infected by the Win32 Vitro trojan, and to ensure it was wholly eradicated, the HDD was destroyed.
But Creative Suite was not deactived, and I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone giving my Adobe Customer ID, Licence Number, Activation Code and an explanation before I got the Authorisation code.
So de-activate if you can, and it will be a whole lot easier.
(And thank you Adobe for a free trans-Atlantic call at midnight GMT.)

Failure to down load CC Acrobat DC Pro for a second time after having to perform a system recovery.
The previous 'DC Pro' is not showing as not being an installed program.
When trying to perform the update again an error shows in the Creative Cloud window 'the download appears corrupt please try again in a few minutes(26).
Trying again both in a few minutes and after a restart the same error message shows again.
What next?check the dl'd file size vs expected file size to see if you're getting a completed download.
also, you can try a different browser and/or different wired connection and/or a download manager. -

Problem recovering files after performing minimized system image
I have been looking for a quick and easy way to remove bloatware on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop and I recently came across the option to minimize the system image. When performing the task, I was given the option to first back up all my files and I thought this was great. After waiting about 2 hours for it to creat the backup, it created a 67.5 GB file on my backup drive and then proceeded to minimize the system image. When it was complete my laptop rebooted and went through all the steps of setting up for first-time use. When everything was done, I hooked up my backup drive and navigated to the file recovery folder entitled "Backup_2011-10-28 125331." Within the folder was a "Recovery.exe" file so I assumed I simply had to run the file and everything would be restored. However, all it did was create a file on drive C: in the "System Recovery Files" that basically looks like just a list of files. The file that was made was only 12 GB which doesn't make sense considering the original backup folder took up 67.5 GB on my backup drive.
I assumed that this recovery file would simply perform a system recovery, putting back all the user-created files where they were originally and basically restoring my system to how it was before minimizing the system image, except obviously for the fact that the system image would be smaller. Was I wrong in assuming this or am I not restoring my system correctly? When going into windows and attempting to restore from the backup created by whatever HP program that made it, the file isn't even given as a possible source to back up from. How can I get my computer back to where it was before the restore? I had over 100 GB worth of music, games, and programs on there that are now lost and trying to even remember what all I lost will be greatly time-consuming, not to mention how long it will take actually getting all the files back. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

View Solution.Thank you for your prompt reply! I looked in the FBData folder like you said but there doesn't appear to be a "Backup.wim" file at all. There are 368 "Backup#.swm" files and a couple files called "SourceFileList" and "TypeList" but no wim file. The "Backup_2011-10-28 125331" file is 67.5 GB (72,481,045,331 bytes).
Here's a list of the files and folders in the file:
