Cannot ping domain name

We have created a new domain name for our Sharepoint apps in Sharepoint 2013 environment.  I have configured the App settings in the central admin and I am now able to access sharepoint app store. Everything works great.
The only thing puzzling is, why I am not able to ping the domain name created from apps from my computer ?

    nslookup succeeds, but do other commands (like 'getent hosts xxx' or 'ping xxx')?
    If your /etc/nsswitch.conf is misconfigured, then the system will not use DNS, but 'nslookup' could still succeed.

  • Randomly cannot ping DNS name without FQDN

    My office is setup that we are using a Mac Mini running OS x 10.9 with the Server plug-in (DHCP, DNS, File) and all users are either on a MacBook Pro or Air running OS x 10.9.  We are randomly seeing users unable to access our shared folders or be able to print.  When this occurred on my own machine today, I ran a number of tests.  I was not able to ping the printer or server by its base DNS name.  If I added the FQDN to the devices, I was able to ping them without issue.  Going into the Network settings, I can see that DHCP provided DNS server and domain name correctly.  If we then trust toggle the network connection off and on, it immediately starts working again.  The triggering of the network interface fixing the issues points me to thinking the issue is on the client side and not the Mac Mini server.
    The past two weeks alone, I have had this happen randomly on 6 different machines.  Is anyone else seeing this type of behavior with DNS?

    I have the same issue.. Its affecting me with my productivity and usage. I have to reset my network drivers all the time when it happens. Can you please let me know if you find any solution for this.

  • Cannot ping by name

    I have one system on my network that cannot ping any workstations or servers by name but can ping by IP Address. I get error Ping request could not find host tt-data. Please check the name and try again.
    I tried the following troubleshooting steps but nothing fixed it
    -Tried a static ip and dns address
    -Added an entry in the host file and tried to ping the server name and it failed as I got same error as above
    -Reinstalled network card driver as well as updated it
    -Did an ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns
    -Stop and Started Browser, Computer and DNS Client services
    -Rebooted pc multiple times
    -No errors in application or system logs
    -Windows firewall service started but all profiles disabled
    -Stopped windows firewall
    -Cannot ping localhost
    -netsh interface ipv4 reset
    I am not sure what the issue is as I am stumpped as DNS is clearly not working but I do not understand why the host file entries are not working either when you ping by name but IP Addresses work fine. All other workstations work fine so it has to be something
    on this machine.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried to publish site using fttp but keeps coming up wih a common error message saying the info i have input is incorrect. I have tread this may be an issue if host is a windows based host???

  • XP client ping the domain name get resolve ip 127.0.53.53

    I got a strange issues recently. We have many windows XP client in our company. Most them are working out of office.
    So they connect our VPN to access the company resource. But last week (around 8.25), all the XP clients lost connections with our domain after they connected VPN.  When I try ping the domain name, it got a resolved IP:127.0.53.53.
    If I  nslookup our domain name, it will get a correct resolved ip. Now It impacts all XP users' work. They can't use the outlook,
    connect to the file share server.(windows 7 is ok, just XP get issues.)
    Now my solution is:  add our intrance dns(find it on the VPN network) to the local adapter.

    Why are you using a single labeled domain? I would recommend renaming the domain name to be something like domain.com.

    You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
    *Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
    *Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
    *Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    *Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
    *Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
    *If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

    *.database.windows.net:1433/tcp is getting resolved as IP address in corporate firewall but the corporate firewall is configured to allow only domain names.Is there a way to connect to SQL Azure without domain name getting resolved into IP.

    Did you means that you connect to the SQL database with IP address? If I understand correctly, you can not rely on the IP address when connect to Windows Azure SQL database.
    SQL database is hosted on a virtual machine at the Microsoft datacenter and shared resource with other databases. Static IP addresses are not supported on Windows Azure virtual machines, it is use dynamic address.
    What's more, one SQL Database keep at least three SQL Server databases replica that are distributed across multiple physical servers in a single data center and automatic cluster failover when a hardware fails on one server. In that case, the real IP that
    is behind server might change in any moment.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Cannot ping local traffic and local hosts cannot get out

    I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something.
    Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209).
    There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
    I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off.
    The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
    I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue.
    Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out.

    Hi Martin,
    Which way you are trying. Sending traffic via site to site is not working or traffic which you generate to outside world is not working?
    But you say ASA connected interface to PC itself is not pinging that is strange. But try setting up the specific rules for the outgoing connection and check. Instead of not having any ACL.
    If it is outside world the you may need to check on the NAT rules which is not correct.
    If it is site to site then you may need to check few other things.

    Hello Jon,
      Thank you so much for your response. Clients will not be connect to a specific RDP server.  I was hoping if we were to establish a VPN Client tunnel I would like that tunnel to provide full local are access.  So the way the clients are used to is while in the field they use RDP to connect to their desktops on the internal LAN.
    Would you say this would work:

    Hello Wayne,
    Can you use a different subnet range than the internal interface, this could cause you a LOT of issues and hours on troubleshooting, so use a dedicated different Ip address range...
    I can see that the local Pool range is included into the inside interface Ip address subnet range, change that and the related config ( NAT,etc, ) and let us know what happens,

  • DNS Issues - Can ping server name and IPs but not FQDNs.

    Hi All, 
    Hopefully some one can help me here, I am having an issue where one of my domain attached servers cannot ping any FQDNs in the environment but it can ping the host names and the IPs and look up the host names from a reverse look up. 
    We have done the following troubleshooting:
    Flushed and registered DNS cache.
    Restarted the DNS client and net logon services on the effected server
    Preformed standard checks and commands such as:
    Checked the event logs and found there were warnings for DNS registration.
    Compared the DNS settings in the network adapters across the rest of the servers in the environment and found that they were all the same. DNS Suffixes are added in the correct order and are set to register.
    Pinging FQDNs which is not giving any results.
    Tracert FQDNs which is also not giving any results.
    Nslookup which is querying the DNS server directly and giving results as expected
    Ran the command which reported successful: dcdiag /test:registerindns /dnsdomain:sub.domain.net /v
    Checked and updated the permissions on DNS for the affected server to give the server full control of its own DNS entry. 
    Replaced the DNS Client service DLL with one from a server that is working as expected. 
    Also worth noting is that the affected server (as well as every other server in the environment) has 2 NICs, one that communicates with DNS and AD and the other does not have any DNS IPs set. 
    Not this is not the first time this happened, a reboot fixed the issue before but it seems to be a reoccurring problem now. 
    If any one can shed some light on this issue I would be grateful.

    First, we should confirm if this issue is caused by DNS.
    When you ping the FQDN, does the server show the correct corresponding IP address?
    If no, there should be some error messages. If it is possible, please post the screenshot of this issue.
    To check the process about how does server resolve the FQDN, please follow the steps below:
    clear local DNS cache with command ipconfig /flushdns
    perform the network capture
    ping the specified FQDN

  • 2851 router vpn to 851 router lan clients cannot ping

    Greets - I'm expanding my lab experience by adding a 2851 router to my mix of 18xx and 851/871 units. Some of this infrastructure is in production, some just lab work. I have established good connectivity between 18xx's and 851/871's with IPSEC VPNs (site-to-site static and dynamic), but my problem is with adding in a 2851.
    Setup: 2851 with 12.4 ADVENTK9, WAN on GE0/0 as 216.189.223.bbb/26, LAN on GE0/1 as 172.20.0.1/20 (VPN module, but no additional HWIC modules)
    851 with 12.4 ADVENTK9, WAN on FE4 as 216.53.254.aaa/24, LAN on FE0..3 via BVI1 as 172.21.1.1/24
    The two router WAN ports are bridged via a 3rd router (a Zywall with 216.0.0.0/8 route, with the router at 216.1.1.1) affectionately called the "InterNOT", which provides a surrogate to the great web, minus actual other hosts and dns, but it doesn't matter. As both my WAN addresses are within 216.x.x.x, this works quite well. This surrogate has tested fine and is known to not be part of a problem.
    The 851 has been tested against another 851 with complementary setup and a successful VPN can run between the two.
    I have good LAN-WAN connections on each router. I do have a "Good" VPN connection between the two routers.
    The problem: I cannot ping from a LAN host on 172.20.x.x on the 2851 to any 172.21.1.x (eg 172.21.1.1) host on the 851, and vice versa.
    From a LAN host, I can ping to my InterNOT - for example a dhcp host 172.20.6.2 on the 2851 LAN can ping 216.1.1.1 fine. I can also ping the 851's WAN address at 216.53.254.aaa.
    To complicate matters, if I connect to the routers via console, I CAN ping across the vpn to the destination LAN hosts, in both directions.
    This seems to indicate that there is a bridging problem between the LAN interfaces to the VPN interfaces. I suspect this is a config problem on the 2851, as I have had a similar config working on my 851 to 851 site-to-site setups. I also suspect it is in the 2851's config as I'm still just starting out with this particular router.

    Note that the above are somewhat stripped-down configs, without firewall or WAN ACL's - interestingly my default WAN-Inbound ACLs seem to break connectivity when included, so I realize I have some more cleanup to do there, but the 2851 LAN bridging seems to be what I should concentrate on first.
    I'm still googling some of the particulars with the 2851, but any assistance is appreciated.

    First,please delete NAT.If we configured the NAT in the RRAS,the source IP address in all packets sent to 192.168.1.0/24 would be translated to 192.168.1.224.
    Second,please enable the LAN routing in RRAS server.To enable LAN routing,please follow the steps below,
    1.In the RRAS server,Open Routing and Remote Access.
    2.Right-click the server name,then click
    properties.
    3.On the General tab,select
    IPv4 Router check box,and then click Local area network(LAN) routing only.
    Then,announce the 172.16.0.0 network to the router.
