Cannot Plat Film!!

I've rented an HD movie from iTunes on my iPhone. Connected the iPhone to a full HD 1080 LCD using an HDMI cable and Apple Digital AV Adapter.
the following msg appears "the connected display is not authorised to play protected films"
AND, after finishing the "sync" and "transfer purchased" I still can not find the movie in the laptop!
so the only way I can view the movie is by playing it in the iPhone!!
How can I play the film on TV?
Ofcourse I got only 1 day left!
*Note: I can view all other clips -youtube, trialers.. etc- with no problems.

Well, it is helpful to read the terms of service before paying to rent or buy; according to the iTunes terms:
(a) Content rentals are viewable on only one device at a time. You must be connected to the iTunes Service when moving rentals, and you may do so only between your computer and other compatible devices. Content rented using your Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation) may not be moved. If you move a rental to a compatible device and then use the iTunes Service to restore that device, or choose Settings > Reset > Erase all content and settings on that device, the rental will be permanently deleted.
So, if you move it, it will be deleted. If you want to watch it on something other than your phone, you will need to download/purchase it via other means.

Sounds like you might need to take it to an Apple Store but if it is an iPhone 3G it would no longer be under warranty.
Looking at the Apple Store online you can get an iPhone 3GS from $49 on AT&T if it comes to having to get a new one. Your other option is second hand.

Have uninstalled then re-installed iTunes and it sees my iPhone but doesn't show the battery state.
I have rebooted my laptop and, guess what, iPhone is now NOTseen! Who designed this software, an idiot? Oh, I forgot Apple programmers don't know anything about Windows especially Windows 7. I still think this has to do with the differing formats as if there are pictures on the iPhone, Windows sees it as a camera and it is possible to see the pictures in Explorer, so these must be stored in FAT format. Maybe someone needs to design the phone to tell Windows that it's a phone and tells Windows to load the correct drivers. Maybe that's too difficult!

Your original post does not make it clear where your films came from and therefore what format they are in. If they are not from the iTunes Store and have come from various other sources they may be in formats that QuickTime 10.1 (aka. QuickTime X) cannot itself understand.

Cannot download films purchased from iTunes (error 8217).

Hi,
I purchased some films from iTunes but instead of downloading films I got following error message.
There was a problem downloading “”. An unknown error occurred (8217).
Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again.
Problem cannot be in network connection because I can browse web and even in iTunes at same time.
I have tried to disable firewall and then use "check available downloads" in iTunes again. Same results.
I suspect that problem may be related with Regional setting of my Apple ID.
Before I was using another account with US address and eveytning worked fine. When I created new account with my Estonian address and tried to use it then I was able to purchase films but not able to download these

My ps4 was bought and set up in the UK however i am now living in Spain, i have tried to rent films from PlaystationStore, but the message "this content cannot be selected at this time". I pay for a us dns service so that i can watch netflix uk/usa, and i have tried with the original ps4 dns settings and with the changed dns but to no avail. Why? Many thanksNick

Thanks for the reply, 'download films' was an error, i meant to put streaming. I contacted psn support and they said there was no reason why i shouldn't be able to stream films but that there had been issues over the last couple of weeks with Playstation video service. However i have tried to access the movie section in Playstation Store on my laptop to 'push' the film to my ps4 but the link gets redirected to the games section! Are these issues connected? Hi There, Can anyone out there help me with this rather annoying problem. I have tried to sync my itunes with my playbook, and although it has imported my music library, I cannot view a film, in the video tab, even though it is listed as a file on the desktop? any hints as to what I'm not doing correctly?

QuickTime cannot open film sent by email

What do you think of this: I have here a QT movie, which was created with the Grapher utility under Mac OS 10.4.8. I tried sending it to a friend by email, but he couldn't open it and sent it back to me for checking. I couldn't open it either ("Error opening file"), although it seems to be bit-by-bit identical to the original file.
I did some more tests:
$ open original.mov
(opens film in QuickTime)
$ cp original.mov copy1.mov
$ diff original.mov copy1.mov
$ open copy1.mov
(opens film in QuickTime)
$ cat original.mov > copy2.mov
$ diff original.mov copy2.mov
$ open copy2.mov
(error message appears)

Anyway, is there an (unexpensive) way to recode the film in a different codec? iMovie won't do as the movie has custom dimensions.
Since you say the original opens/plays in QT Player, would suggest you try opening it in MPEG Streamclip (free). It has features similar to QT Pro (compression formats and custom dimensions among others) but without having to purchase the registration. It also would save you the trouble of drop/import converting to DV codec (with fixed dimensions) in iMovie which I assume is what you are referring to by your "iMovie won't do" comment. (BTW: iMovie projects can be exported at your original custom screen size but you still have to convert twice whereas with MPEG Streamclip, ffmpeg, QT Pro, or other dedicated converter applications you can transcode directly between supported QT compression formats.)

think when you rent stuff on youtube you dont get a file it stream it
as in send you bit by bits as you watch it
about iphone support then I would prob as youtube for info rather then here

Cannot download films sucessfully

Hi I hope someone can help before I loose all faith in Apple!
This is the second time I have had issues with movie downloading movies. Firstly I have the latest SW, great wifi connection, loads of space etc.
When I download it starts off fine then stops without any warning/notification of an issue etc. When I click on the download symbol to get it to kick start again it says "You have already rented this but it has not been downloaded. Go to downloads to manage your downloads". Firstly how can you rent if you havent downloaded, I hope like before I havent been charged for something I cant watch! (Had to request refund on a different ocasion for the same issue).Secondly, where the **** do they mean? There is no "Downloads page" so to speak on the ipad. In the "Rentals" page I can see where the movie i am supposed to have "downloaded" to but its GREY and there are no options here to edit, delete, restart download....nothing like that...no options at all...
Very confused and iritated! Im going on a long flight today and yet again NO MOVIE!
Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Sinead did you resolve this? I have the same problem.
The 2 movies are not showing up in Purchased (iTunes store), and there is NO DOWNLOADS option appearing on the store.
I can find the movies by searching on the iPad, but when I go there I get the "you have already rented this but it has not been downloaded".
Seems like a catch 22.
There's a cloud+arrow icon underneath the play button (right arrow/triangle) and tapping on that gives the spinning circle and then it comes back with the error message again.
Actually 1 rental has now completed, and since I pressed play to test it, I now have to watch the thing within 24 hours I think?
Very messy.
