Cannot play DVDs on Equium A110-233

I can play CD's and pc DVD rom games but it cant play normal DVD films. I get the following message
Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem lowing message.
I have lowered all the settings as suggested and followed all the troubleshooter guides but still no luck. Im sure I have the latest drivers ect, so a bit lost!
Thanks for any ideas on how to fix.

Hi
I do not have such problems but maybe you should read this document for better understanding why this happen.
If your notebook is preinstalled with original recovery image you should be able to watch original DVD movies using preinstalled WinDVD player.

  • Equium A110-233 Broken laptop screen

Hi, I have an Equium A110-233, the screen is broken.
I have attached an external monitor and it displays when booting up until it gets to the Windows logon screen then it switches back to the laptop screen.
Is there any workaround known for this other than replacing the broken screen?

    Hi!
Replacing the interal screen is a little bit tricky because you have to disassemble a lot of. You must remove many parts and screws and for this you should have a little bit experience with it.
An ASP can help you to do this and they can order such part and exchange it or you have a look on ebay.
Normally you can switch between the monitors with FN+F5.

  • How do I get an Equium A110-233 to recognise the network card under Linux?

    Hi,
I've just bought an Equium A110-233. I partitioned the hard disk so I've got XP and Fedora Core 5 (FC5).
XP works fine when I plug in the network cable, but FC5 (or at least the Linux kernel) does not seem to be able to find and activate the network card.
The message I get is "8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization". The 8139too module is in memory as is mii (which points to it).
Somehow I need to get Linux to detect that the card is there, but I just don't know how to do that. Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

    Hi
As far as I know the notebook has a integrated Realtek Network I/F Chip RL8100CL.
I think you should googol around for the compatible LAN driver for Linux which supports this chip.
Unfortunately, on the Toshiba page you will not find any drivers for any Linux distribution because Toshiba doesnt support this OS. ;(

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just had the same problem even though yours happened six months ago I couldnt figure out how to change /dev/dvd to /dev/sr0 in kaffeine so I did a quick workaround: I removed /dev/dvd and softlinked /dev/sr0 to /dev/dvd and now everything works perfectly. Oddly enough how you said yours didnt work in mplayer or kaffiene but did in vlc, mine didnt work at all in any of them!

  • U330 ATI cannot play DVD

For some reason, I cannot play a DVD in Window Media Player while using the ATI graphics.  I get an error that says something like, "WMP cannot play DVD because the codec, graphics driver, digital copy protection, etc. are not compatible. You can try to update your graphics driver... blah blah blah"  I updated to the latest ATI driver from their website, but I still get the same error.
I tried downloading another player, but that didn't work either.  Any suggestions?

You either have to install a DVD codec or you can use VLC player.

  • Cannot play DVDs when connected to TV

    Hi guys,
I have a first generation Titanium PowerBook G4 (400MHz). Still using System 9.2.
Anyway, the DVD player works fine in the notebook by itself. When I connect to my Sony Wega through a S-video cable, I can see the desktop but the DVD player won't fire up. Keeps giving me an error message about thr video card not supporting the resolution or something like that (Sorry, I cannot be more precise. It happened late last night).
This is the first time I have tried to connect the Powerbook to a TV, so I don't know whether I am doing anything wrong. I tried playing around with the resolution, but that did not seem to solve the problem. Also any recommendations of what audio cord I should be using to connect to my audio inputs on the TV.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rajneesh

    Rajneesh,
I have tried to use the Titanium Powerbook G4, running 9.1, to play DVDs on a TV. One of the posts said this may not be a good idea, so maybe you don't want to do this, but here is my experience.
I was using my mother's computer, and I don't have it with me, so I can't double-check that what I think worked was actually what did work, but I can tell you what I did and how far I got with it.
Like you, I was able to get the desktop on the TV. I could either mirror it (so the laptop and the TV had the same desktop) or use it the TV to extend the Mac desktop.
I got the message you mention when I fired up the DVD. I trried changing the resolution, and I thought I got it to
work that way, but later it seemed not to work. Then I got it working by turning off the mirroring. So when the two screens were separate, not mirrored, the DVD would play.
I wish I could tell you that it played on the TV, but it didn't. Because my mother was so impatient with me and the computer at this point, I gave up fiddling and we just watched the DVD. But I think that with a little more fiddling, I could have moved the DVD picture over to the TV (for example, maybe I could have just grabbed it and moved it to the TV).
    Good luck to you,
    Nancy

  • Cannot play DVD movies in Windows XP

Does anyone know of any driver that I have to download in order to play just regular old DVD movies with Boot Camp? The CD-ROM aspect of the drive works fine, as I play games all the time...but when I try to play a movie it says that it cannot....has anyone found a fix to this?

Lol well unfortunately it didn't, I installed it, popped a movie in, and this is the messege that i got:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
It was just a regular DVD movie bought from the store, not a burnt one or anything...I'm confused...

  • Mac Cannot Play DVDs Since Update to 10.8

OK, this may be a bit late but I updated my MacBook Pro to OS X 10.8 and all of a sudden my Mac rejects DVDs, It just spits them out saying it cannot play them.
I took this to the genius bar but they told me to go and restore my Mac over timemachine because they tried another boot disk of mountain lion and somehow it played the dvds but as a student, i cannot just randomly go and buy a 1TB drive and then my system config is very complex. they told me not to restore system preferences and this is all too much of a hassel, I still have Apple Care... if that helps and my mac is the latest 13" i7 750GB ivy bridge 2012 model.
Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Eric for the response. I have done everything detailed in those instructions before - I tried them again, but to no avail. I feel that this is a ML issue
I can scan using the Canon software - but I cannot scan from either, Preview or Image Capture apps. When trying to scan from either of these apps, I get "AN ERROR OCCURED WHILE COMMUNICATING WITH THE SCANNER" Then all I can do is just close the window. Checking the system console logs showed no errors except for 1 instance of:
6/17/13 2:32:47.821 PM Image Capture Extension[579]: [2] Failed to register for death of process with pid: 591
I have no other wireless issues and as I noted before, it worked perfectly with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Only after I "upgraded" to Mountain Lion 10.8.4, did these workflow productivity enhancements started showing up.
And yes, I clean installed 10.8.4 on a freshly formatted partition with no other software installed.

  • Cannot play DVDs

Just noticed that I cannot play any Movie DVDs - Warning Box: Disk Insertion - The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. Ignore Eject
I have looked at similar type threads but no luck. This is happening with any Movie DVD - Commercial and Burnt. Will mount Data DVDs but not Movies so cannot even play with other apps like VLC.
Have reloaded 10.4.6 combo updater - removed com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist from Library > Preferences. All Settings look OK to me.
I am using an iMac 2.1GHz Power PC G5 20". The inbuilt superdrive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K05

    2.1GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi, Peter.
    1. This problem seems to have affected a few folks, and solutions are thin on the ground. I've not seen the problem myself, so I decided to do some research. This Google search turned up two ideas:1.1. Do you have, or have you recently added, a Lexar JumpDrive Secure? This topic on another forum indicated that a drive associated with that Lexar device caused the DVD problem for several folks. While it's not clear from the topic if the affected users were running Tiger, several noted the JumpDrive Secure was the cause and removing its related software solved the problem.
If that's the case, then either check Lexar for updates or uninstall the Lexar driver using their instructions. See my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.
1.2. This Google cached item from a MacInTouch thread suggested resetting Open Firmware. See the item therein from 31 March 2006. I think this might be a better approach if the optical drive wasn't working with any media, but it may be worth a shot.2. If none of the above helps, let's see if Console can provide more clues: immediately after the problem occurs, check these Console logs for clues.
    3. As FYI, the problem is being reported by diskarbitrationd, the daemon responsible for detecting and mounting disks. A recent version of the source code that contains the specific error message can be seen here, but it offers no particular clues as it just seems to handle the error message processing.
    Good luck!

  • Equium A110-233 stops using the WLan and fans work only 3 sec

I purchased an A110-233 20-09-06. It works fine for about 1 hour then it stops communicating via the wireless network, the connection status states it is still connected, sometimes but not always the Intel Pro config window states that the wireless is switched off and I should switch it on at the bottom of the window ( It is switched ON ).
I took it back to PC World expecting a replacement but I had to sit for an hour trying to replicate the fault, we could not get it to go wrong but I have since found out that it only does it when running on the mains.
The cooling fan only runs for 1 - 3 seconds at a time, is there any way to increase this time.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Bob

    Hi
If you want to change the cooling module properties you have to do it in the Power saver settings.
You should know that the power saver uses different power modes. The notebook uses a different power mode if the AC adaptor was connected and another power mode if the notebook runs only with the battery.
In the Basic setup of the power saver you will be able to change the cooling method. This option controls the fan operating.
It is not easy to solve the WLAN communication issue. I mean there is no general solution. Additional its not easy to solve it because the issue doesnt occur always but only sometimes. Possibly the signal strength is sometimes lower and therefore the Intel WLan configuration software reports that the WLan is switched off.
Furthermore you should also check the Wlan card properties. You will find the properties in the device manager -> right click on the WLan card.
There you should select the Advanced tab.
You should find some interesting options like power saving (disable it) or signal strength (enable it).
Furthermore you could try to update the WLan driver. Possibly a new version is available.
By the way: You should also know that some 3rd party application could has a bad influence on the WLan communication.

  • Portege 4000 - XP installed - cannot play dvd's

I have installed XP as a clean install on a Portege 4000 which previously had 98SE on it.
Now I'm unable to play dvd's in Windows Media Player and am getting a message that it needs an MPEG-2 decoder, however Microsoft are transferring me a site where I need to pay: [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx#DVDDecoder].
Is there any way around this?
The cd is working ok and there doesn't seem to be a need for an acoustic silencer at the moment.

    Hi
If you need an MPEG-2 decoder then I would recommend installing some codec packages.
+K-Lite Mega Codec Pack+ contains all needed (and more) codecs.
    You should try it.
PS: Why you don't use any 3rd party players? For example the *VLC player* is for free and it's a great player. It handles all possible files.
    Cheers mate

  • HELP! Cannot Play DVDs!

Hello all. It really seems like my sis's Mac mini Intel Core Duo is "plagued" with many many problems...
Today she attempted to play a self-recorded DVD from a friend, it played OK, it was the FIRST time she played a DVD, so when she poped the disc in, DVD Player kicks in (she didn't use Front Row), and it asked about the Region Code of the disc, since the disc was self-made, there is no code, but she chose Code 1 anyway, since most of our commercial discs are in Code 1.
She was able to watch the DVD.
The 2nd time round when she tried to watch the disc, it will not play anymore. I tested with other commerical DVDs, at least 2, "Fantastic Four" and "Star Wars III", all gave the same 'results' below:
    In DVD Player:
DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from
A system error was encountered [-70028]
    In Front Row:
When insert and trying to read the DVD, it will go straight to 1 choice highlighted only, "Eject DVD", then the following pops from right:
    The DVD cannot be played
There is a problem with the disc.
We are able to burn CDs with the drive, but did not burn any lately.
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?? Looks like I am going to "bother" AppleCare again.
    Thanks and cheers

Hi guys, thanks for the prompt reply, I have tried both and now "counting down" the min. 15 minutes shut down, hopefully everything will turn out just fine.
I have tested that self-recorded DVD my sis has on my iMac G5, and it plays just fine with DVD Player.
    Cheers
