Cannot play exported avi (uncompressed)

Can anyone help ?
After I export avi (uncompressed) from Premiere Pro, I try all media programs I have on my PC to open the file. I cannot open the file. Still, when I import this avi (uncompressed) file back in Premiere Pro , the aplication is able to play it back. All other export and encoding schemes work just fine. Only avi (uncompressed) export cannot be open.
I appreciate any one that can help! Thanks a lot !

My first question would be what is the purpose of the uncompressed AVI file? There are few reasons to work with such a massive file, so perhaps there is a better codec/workflow to look at for your needs.
Thanks

I have an avi file, size 13.9 MB, which plays perfectly, when I click on it with pathfinder.

No matter what I do, there is no synchro between picture and sound, when I play it.

  • JMStudio cannot play a avi file properly but the Window Media Player can

    Hi,
I downloaded and installed the JMF 2.1.1e on Window XP. I tried to use JMStudio to view a AVI file, the top half is black and the bottom half seems ok. The same file can be viewed properly by Window Media Player.
Can someone tell me what I can do to make it work properly ?

    Hi All,
I did some more research, I found out the problem probably is because the file is openDML format. Does the JMF support the openDML/MJPG ? If not, is there any java plugin I can use to work with JMF ?

  • Cannot play multimedia files (Solved)

I've upgraded gnome to the 2.14 version, and it works fine except that totem cannot play mp3, avi, mpeg, etc.
Before I upgraded it could play those files without problem but now it gives me this message:
" You do not have a decoder to play this file"
"You might need to install the necessary plugins"
So, what does this mead, before it worked great, but now it doesn't, I have reinstalled the "gst-plugins" package and the "codecs" package but still nothing, even after doing "gst-register".
So how could I fix it?

2.14 uses gstreamer 0.10 not 0.8.x. The gstreamer 0.10 plugin for the mp3 decoder would be for example: gstreamer0.10-mad

  • I cannot export to "Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2" format. Help!

I need to deliver clips to a stock agency but I cannot export the footage from iMovie with the uncompressed format I need. Not in iMovieHD, nor in iMovie8, nor in FCE. I tried it with a 10 second clip, so it can not be the length or files getting too big!
    So what happens?
    Exporting to Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2
If I try this setting, on all occasions iMovie simply crashes and I get the "iMovie quit unexpectedly" window. The same thing happens in FCE.
    Exporting to Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2
When I export using this seting, iMovie SEEMS to export the file as it should. But when I open the file in Quicktime, the timebar indicates the full 10 seconds, but the video & audio freezes after about 1 or 2 seconds, the clip keeps playing and I hear & see the last second of the clip again. The same thing happens with files exported with this setting in iMovieHD, iMovie8 and FCE.
I've read on the forum that I should not worry about the quicktime movie not playing right, because the file can be imported into Final Cut without any problems. So I try not to worry about this and hope the stock agency can work with the files... But that still does not explain why I cannot export to 10-bit 4:2:2 without my video programs crashing!
And yes, I've also tried doing this on my Macbook with Intel processor. With the same result.
Can somebody please help me with any suggestions? Thanks!!
    Daniëlla

You don't say what's the source of your clips.
If standard DV (..though I doubt that an agency would accept standard def video any more..) NTSC DV is compressed in the camera as 4:1:1, and PAL DV is compressed as 4:2:0 ..so you won't get true 4:2:2 from normal DV, unless you're using a broadcast camera (..probably feeding into the capture device via SDI inputs).
If the source was tape-based HDV or any other hi-def source, then iMovie converts that, during import, into Apple Intermediate Codec, and wouldn't be able to output proper Uncompressed 4:2:2 material.
For Uncompressed 4:2:2, I think you'll need to be using a dedicated capture card - and massive-capacity hard discs! - to be able to import the material in the first place.
iMovie certainly isn't the program to handle pro video of this nature.
Ask in the Final Cut Pro Discussions..
"..I've also tried doing this on my Macbook with Intel processor.." ..but maybe that's just not fast enough (older Mac portables have "shared graphics memory" ..meaning their graphics processor may have to compete with the main processor to temporarily grab free RAM)!

  • Problems exporting to uncompressed MS-AVI (PPro 2.0)

    Hi!
I have done a little film with still images. When trying to export 20-30 seconds from it (just to try it out), the resulting file is unplayable, and seems corrupt(normally I can play uncompressed video). Before I started this project, I did a test project with other still images, exporting to uncompressed Microsoft AVI, and it was no problem. Now it doesn't work, and neither does uncompressed Quicktime.
Changing the 10-bit YUV compressor to 8 bit results in a file that is playable, but the picture is distorted and made up of narrow lines.
Exporting to DV-AVI works allright, though.
The only difference between this project and the previous test project is higher quality pictures, and texts on top.
Could there be some setting that I need to adjust? Here is all the information I know:
    Computer:
    Dell Dimenion 8300
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
    1,50 Gb RAM
    Windows XP
    Service Pack 3
    Premiere Pro 2.0
    project setting: DV PAL Widescreen
    export settings:
    Uncompressed MS AVI
    work area bar
    10-bit Yuv
    25 fps
    aspect ratio: D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)
Data rate: recompress, maintain data rate
    Bit Depth: use project setting
    Fields: no fields (progressive)
The pictures are jpg , and the audio is mp3.
It would be great if someone with knowledge could point to what may be the problem!

John caught that "higher quality" mention, as did I. I think that the linked article will be helpful.
Though it does not seem that you are having an issue with the MP3, you might keep this ARTICLE in mind, should you encounter any. Some MP3's never cause an issue, and some users happily use them. In many other cases, however, they do cause issues.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Cannot play avi?

    I've got the next problem; When I make a nice movie with Flas and export it as a usuall AVI file, I cannot play it with JMF and keep getting the following error;
    Unable to handle format: IV41, 800x600, FrameRate=20.0, Length=1080000 0 extra bytes
    Failed to realize: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@b02efa
    Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@b02efa
    Could not realize media player
The correct JAR files are all in place. Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong? The AVI has got no sound and is quite small.

You may be able to get the audio to play by using this freeware but no guarantees:
    http://www.3ivx.com/divxdoctor/
If the Doctor can't fix it you may want to open one of these videos in QT and then use the MovieInfo window to reveal the compression methods used for audio and video. Post those and perhaps someone will have more info on how to get the audio decompressor.

  • Since I upgraded to Mavericks I cannot play .AVI files in Aperture

Hi, I have about 1 Tera of .AVI videos as referenced files to Aperture libraries that I have spent long time organizing, tagging, and keywording... Since I upgraded to Mavericks I cannot play these videos any longer. I can play them with VLC or DivX but not within Aperture. Is there any way to ask Aperture to use VLC to play the videos? Or to get Quicktime to play them within Aperture? I assume I am not the only one with this problem but haven't found any way to solve it.
Thanks a lot for any hint!

Hi, I have about 1 Tera of .AVI videos as referenced files to Aperture libraries that I have spent long time organizing, tagging, and keywording..
It is probably not a question of avi or mov. AVI is just a container for media with a variaty of codecs. It will depend on the codecs you installed, if Aperture will be able to show these.
What is your Aperture version? Have you upgraded to Aperture 3.5.1? My Aperture version has no problems to show my AVIs. I installed Perian 1.2.3 to have more codecs.

  • Exporting The Master File, AVI Uncompressed.

    Hello Everyone.
I want to know what Is the best Export Setting to Export my 1920 by 1080, 30 fps,  Edited Version movie, so I can have a File that Is not Lossless.
from there I can always Export to other settings such as You Tube, or even D.V.D.
My concern Is to have the best possible File, I have Plenty of Disk Space so It is ok for me To save them In My Hard Drive.
    I use the MPEG2- HD 1080i 29.97.
Also I have a choice of using  the: Match Source High bitrate.
My friend told me,  the best Export setting for the Master file Is:  AVI ( Uncompressed) with the Quality Slider to 100 percent, and check the Use Maximum Render Quality  box Checked. Then you have nothing to worry about, and later you can export that to what ever version you like.
Please let me know, which one Is correct.
Once Again Thank you very much.

...so I can have a File that Is not Lossless.
    I'm confused.
Surely you meant you want a lossless file for archive.
Here are a few recommended free codecs.  I prefer Ut for archives.
All of these are better choices than using .avi Uncompressed.
Ut Video Codec Suite (pc or mac / .avi .mov / lossless)

Lagarith Lossless Video Codec (pc only / .avi /  lossless)

  • Best plug-in or app to play and export avi flicks

    Hi
What is the best plug-in for FCPX, QT, or app to play and export avi flicks? Can they play in FCPX or FCP 7?
    best
    elmer

AVI is a wrapper format like MOV. It would depend upon the codec used to encode the video if FCPX would be able to open it or not. I believe, in general, if you can open the movie file in QT, you can open it, play, and edit it in FCPX.  That said, AVI is a Windows format and there are a lot of codecs in use in Windows that are not likely to be compatible with the codecs you have installed with Quicktime.  First try opening the file in Quicktime Player. If you are in need of a codec to play the file, one of the easiest ways to install a lot of these codecs at once is via Perian (it is "end of life" at this point, but still works just fine in Yosemite.) You can download it here : http://perian.cachefly.net/Perian_1.2.3.dmg
I have been able to import, open and edit AVI files in FCPX (more specifically, ones encoded with XVID/MP3).

  • Quicktime version 7.1.3 for Mac cannot play AVI file

The AVI file actually "plays" as in, the bar moves, but there is just a white screen, and no sound. I have checked the movie info and it shows that the format is ", 640 x 360, Thousands MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 44.100 kHz". I have totally no idea what that means, and why the file cannot play. It plays perfectly well on a Windows computer which shows that the file is not corrupted.
I have also followed the suggestion made in one of the earlier discussions and downloaded Perian. However, when I clicked on the "AppleIntermediateCodec.component" file, I only got a message that says "Error Opening Movie: The movie cannot be opened." So, Perian seems to be another dead-end for me.
Incidentally, I have also tried playing the AVI file with Windows Media Player for Mac. The message is that the file format is invalid.
Any suggestions as to how I can coax my Mac to play the AVI file?

The codec info should have been listed before the comma that precedes 640x360. Seems to be a bug in the recent versions of QT 7. If you have QT Pro you can still find the codec name by opening Movie Properties and checking the video format that way. Anyway, since Perian cant play it I suspect you are out of luck in MacOS x. Not all avi decompressors have been ported to OS X. It may be that the compressor is one of the old Indeo codecs and those definitely will not work in X. They will work in the Classic environment but a lot of you folks have given up on Classic. Just in case here is a link to the Indeo codecs for Classic: Indeo codecs for Classic
Have you tried playing it in VLC. If it is not an Indeo file VLC may play it.
The Mac version of WMP doesn't play avi or mpeg files -- mostly it plays wmv or asf files and not even the most recent versions of those formats.

  • I cannot play .avi movies in iMovie - any advice?

Hi, I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie. I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime, is there any way I can edit them using iMovie? My digital camera only records in .avi. Can anyone help

I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie.
Your audio and/or video compression format on these files is not import/edit compatible with iMovie '08. onvert it as needed. Casio digital cameras, for instance, produce an AVI file container with MJPEG video which is compatible with iMovie '08 and a DVI ADPCM audio track which is not.
I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime,
Files can be "playback" only compatible with QT applications, "conversion" compatible (i.e. they play and convert but cannot be edited), or "fully" compatible -- i.e., they playback, convert, and can be edited in their "native" compression format.
is there any way I can edit them using iMovie?
AVI files can be edited in iMovie '08 as long as the offending track(s) can be converted properly to a compatible format.
