Cannot Play MP3 after 1.3.5

I updated my phone to 1.3.5 yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine.  Then I noticed that my phone no longer would ring on incoming calls and many other sounds were missing.  I go into the Sounds & Ringtones settings and none of the ringtones play.  I then went into the Music app to see if anything would play but no luck.  I select a song and it immediately skips to the next track and so on.  All of the mp3 files show up when I connect my Pre to my computer in USB drive mode and they play just fine on my computer so the files aren't' corrupt.  I've rebooted the phone several times after the update but still no sound.  Preware is installed but I removed everything I installed with it before running the OS update and only recently reloaded a few of the patches (after my no sound discovery).
Here are the patches I've installed with Preware just in case they may have been an influence:
Battery Icon as Percent
Call Duration in Call Log
Enable Landscape PDF View
Match State to Area Code
Timestamps - Clean  (this is in Messaging app)
Anyone else encounter this?  I'd rather not reset/wipe my phone if posible.  Unless there is a way to backup and restore text messages.

Well it looks like it is WebOS Doctor to the rescue.  After running through the steps to get my phone really really wiped it seems to be back up and running.  For anyone else who encounters this or a similar issue here are the steps I took to resolve it:
Before wiping my phone:
Place the phone into Dev Mode (enter upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart in the global search, press the Dev icon when it appears, switch it On and restart the phone).
Connect the phone to a computer in Just Charge mode.
Use the WebOS Quick Install tool's Receive file tool to copy /var/luna/data/dbdata/PalmDatabase.db3 off of the phone (This is where text messages, call logs, email settings, and probably other stuff is stored).
Switch the phone into USB Drive mode.
Copy off everything in the USB Drive.
Run the Backup app one last time just for good measure.
Wiping my phone:
Go to the Device Info app and record the phones serial number.
Go to Palm's site and download the latest WebOS Doctor here (you will need the serial number to download it).
Shutdown the phone as if you were going to swap the battery.
Press and hold the Volume Up button and plug in the charging cable, after a few seconds the screen should show a large USB symbol (use the AC adaptor not USB to a computer).
Launch WebOS Doctor and go through the steps until it asks to have the phone connected.
Now plug the phone into the computer and wait until the Next button in WebOS Doctor becomes available.
This process took a fair amount of time on my phone but didn't not have any errors.  From what I've read, if there are any problems during this stage rerunning WebOS Doctor usually clears it up.
When it is done you should see the initial configuration screen asking for language, Palm Profile login, etc.
Restoring my stuff:
Run through the Palm Profile's restore during initial setup (pretty much just give passwords again for email).
Place the phone into Dev Mode again.
Connect the phone to a computer in Just Charge mode.
Use the WebOS Quick Install tool's Send file tool to send PalmDatabase.db3 to /var/luna/data/dbdata/ on the phone.
Restart the phone.
Connect the phone to a computer in USB Drive mode.
Copy back any ringtones, wallpaper, music, etc.
That's pretty much it, just random other personal preferences after that.
After doing those steps I was pretty much back where I started only with the 1.3.5 OS version and the ability to play mp3 files again.  Hope this helps others!
On a side note this also fixed all the problems I was having playing videos and using the YouTube app.  It never really bothered me because I don't use videos or YouTube but they never worked since I got the phone.  They would both just throw an error as soon as I attempted to play anything.

  • Cannot play MP3 after playing WAV

My iPod Nano is already updated to the latest verison of software. However, in every time, after listening to the WAV files, it would be skipping files when I tried to play the MP3 files again. However, the reverse process is ok. That's very annoying for us to reset the iPod nano everytime. Can it be solved by updating the software? Thank you very much for the solution.

  • Cannot play MP3 files in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hi
Apogogies if this has been asked before.
I have an embedded MP3 file on one of my DWCS4 pages but when I try to play it from the Properties Inspector I get the message "Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type".
The sound file plays OK in Firefox and IE but I would like to be able to test it in DW. I have the currrent version of Apple QuickTime Pro installed.
I am using both Windows XP and Vista with the same problem.
Is there a plug I can download for DW only in order to play these files without resorting to converting the MP3 to another format.
Any help would be much appreicated.
    Thanks
    George

  • I cannot play mp3 file on itunes after i recover it from an external hdd

hey guy'z i need a little help here
i have a large mp3 file from an old 2TB which had a problem and then recovered and transfered to a new ext hdd.
now after the recovery was done and i'm trying to play my music on the itunes it wont play
    any solution guys?
and another thing is the wma file why i cant i play it also on my itunes?

iTunes cannot play WMA files.  Use a conversion program such as Switch or EasyWMA to convert the WMA to MP3 or AAC.
For your problem MP3, make sure it is a valid file by playing it in another player such as QuickTime.  If it plays there but not in iTunes, then it needs to be cleaned up with a program such as MP3 Validator.

  • Problems playing mp3s after installing iTunes 7.1

I installed iTunes 7.1 today. After that, I have problems playing mp3 songs on my iPod (80 GB). The AAC-files play well. The mp3 songs can also be played on iPod via iTunes when its connected to my computer, but when I disconnect from the computer, the mp3 songs starts, and play for about 2 second, and then jumps to the end of the song and stop.
    Very thankful for any help.

that's typically caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
Try uninstalling then reinstalling the latest version of Flash.
    Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
    Then repair disk permissions...
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Cannot play mp3 files in car stereo after upgrade 5.0.1

I upgraded to 5.0.1 a few weeks ago and just tried burning an mp3 cd to play on my Kenwood in my car. Befor the upgrade, no problems, now, nothing plays, just starts on track one, no title display and just plays silence for as long as I could scan forward, over 30 minutes!
And My Kenwood is less than a year old so it's not the player. And it will play in my dvd player but it took about 5 minutes before the disc loaded and started playing. All I know, is befor eth eupgrade it worked in my car, now it doesn't and really, iTunes is no good to me now!
Amyone have any suggestions? Found a fix?

Have you tried "FingerPrint" by "Collobos Software" at http://www.collobos.com
You can download the software free for evaluation, only costs $10.00 to purchase if it works for you.

  • I cannot play AVI after upgrading to Lion

After a seamless upgrade I now find that Quicktime no longer plays AVI files. I have Flip 4 Mac and Perian installed but now neither of them seems to do the trick as they did in Snow Leopard. Any thought would be appreciated.

Maybe both Flip 4 Mac and Perian need an update

  • QuickTime in Safari cannot play video after upgrading to iTunes 10.2

After upgrading to iTunes 10.2 and QuickTime 10 on my MacBook Pro, the latest Quicktime version embedded in Safari is behaving strangely. When I want to play video on certain websites like " http://www.lynda.com/Aperture-3-tutorials/essential-training/59221-2.html ", the Quicktime logo on Safari browser appears and just sits there with sound only. I tried it on Firefox, the video can only be played on the lower part of my suddenly splitted screen, there is an "error" message on a Quicktime logo background.
Could anybody help me solve the problem. By the way, all these videos can be played normally on my Windows 7 desktop using both Firefox and Safari for Windows.

To make the matter more weird, the QuickTime plays normally on my Safari after I log out and switch to the administrator account of the MacBook Pro. When I change back to a normal account, the QuickTime error takes place again. It seems there must be something I configured wrongly.

  • Quicktime Plugin/Firefox stops playing mp3 after a few seconds

We've run into a problem with Quicktime Player in Firefox (Win XP) only playing the first few seconds of an mp3. It doesn't happen with all mp3s, but out of the five we've tested four showed this problem... only one of the five played through to the end.
When accessing the mp3 file, quicktime plugin loads with the big Q, takes a few seconds (i.e. seems to be downloading the full file), displays the controller, then starts playing. The progress bar moves quickly to the right and stops when it reaches the far right. For some of the mp3s it's only a second or two, for one it is about 8 seconds. The ones that only play for a second or two are regular music mp3s of about 3-5 minutes in length. The one that plays 8 seconds, is really 17 minutes, 42 seconds long.
All of these seem to play fine with the Quicktime plugin in IE. And all the files play fine in iTunes and Quicktime as local files as well as streaming.
The music files are mp3s generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function (original files are m4a files from the iTunes store).
The longer file (a podcast) was generated by a third party, so I'm not sure what tools were used to generate it, however I've tested two versions generated by iTunes that also did not play past 8 seconds:
    - Original encoding with ID3 tags converted to a different version by iTunes
    - New encoding generated by iTunes using the "Convert to MP3" function
(FWIW, renaming the files doesn't make a difference either.)
I have confirmed that this is happening for a colleague of mine on his computer as well.
Reloading the page/mp3 file (F5), force-reload (control-F5), disabling the cache (using Web-Developer Plugin, or Firebug), clearing the cache (through Firefox's Options->Advanced->Network->Offline Storage settings, or through "Clear Recent History") ... none of these seem to make a difference.
However, I did notice that for the files that weren't working, using Firebug's Net panel, it looks like the plugin starts *and finishes* playing the file before the file is completely downloaded (i.e. the player stops playing and the Net panel still shows the file downloading -- usually for a few seconds more before it is completely downloaded).
(And now the one mp3 file that was playing fine is no longer playing. It too just plays a second or two then stops...)
This is with Firefox 3.6.3 and Quicktime Plugin 7.6.6 on Windows XP Pro.

(Oh, and ignore my comment earlier that this mp3 stopped working. I got confused back there with all the various tests... This file does play fully. • Itunes won't play mp3 after downloaded from firefox, but it does play it from Chrome

I download an mp3 in Firefox, which is current--31.0.  I click on the download, iTunes opens it but it doesn't play it or even load it into iTunes.  When I download an mp3 from Chrome, it opens iTunes just fine and plays the song.  I have checked my add-ons and I have the iTunes applications detector in my plug-ins.  This is a brand new computer, so that probably has something to do with it.  I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo Ideapad.  I would appreciate any help with this problem as my job deal with music frequently and I use Firefox most often.  Thank you.

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers. If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find some repair tools. Most are for Windows, but here's one for Mac that I've seen mentioned:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
I haven't tried it so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) it will work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot Play DVD After Build in Encore CS6

After building a DVD with Encore on my client's system, it will not play on any computer.  When clicking PLAY on the disk drive from Explorer, it returns the error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..."  I can play the VOB files with VLC player, but the DVD will not play.
I do not have a DVD player to test.

When clicking PLAY on the disk drive from Explorer, it returns the error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..."
A DVD plays fine with VLC on my laptop. Sometimes there is no dvd decoder, but the message you are getting should not be an issue with VLC installed.
Try opening VLC. then Media -> Open Disk; do you see the disk?

  • If you were having trouble playing mp3s after the IOS5 update - TURN OFF ZONE ALARM!

    UGH!!!
I finally found this suggestion after plowing through MANY pages and threads on here and all over the web. Someone suggested that ZoneAlarm and iTunes "clash" so I turned off my ZoneAlarm and now can FINALLY transfer mp3s to my phone without having them playback improperly. Before songs would start like 20 seconds in, then jump back to the beginning, then the middle again, despite the files being perfectly fine on my computer and also in the "music" section of iTunes (but would be faulty once transferred to my device).
This is a HUGE relief. I've been without music for over a week and it was complete ****. I had to use the Pandora app to get SOME kind of songs but compared to being able to listen to my own library, it was pretty much ****.... Just wanted to pass along this idea to anyone else who is struggling.

This is very helpful! How do I create .m4v or .mp4 vidoes that "Fast start"? Just changing the extension doesn't work -- and exporting takes time. I'd love another fast solution like this for opening and "Save As" -- that results in the MPEG-4 extensions that my users are expecting. (Yes, QT is a container format, and yes this .mov has the same media H.264 media streams, but we'd like folks to be able to drag these into itunes or similar and get them quickly on iPods.)
    Thanks!

  • Cannot play cd after burning from iTunes

When I burn a playlist from my iTunes library onto a CD, it will not play on my Sony CD player? Is there anything I am doing wrong?

Insert the CD. In iTunes, select teh CD then right click - get info.
This will change the name of that CD in iTunes and on the desktop.
it mean that I have to remember what I want the CD to be called when I create the playlist
    Yes.
    to export
You don't export the playlist anywhere. Just click Burn.
and make sure I've named the playlist what I want the CD to be called?
