Cannot Play Purchased Music

My IPOD was just serviced (headphone jack replacement) and cleaning; I now can play no purchased music on the IPOD; I can play it while the IPOD is plugged into the computer, but not otherwise; I have checked and only my two computers are authorized to play the purchased music.

Check through this document.

  • Error Message (-208) -- Cannot play purchased music

After upgrading to itunes 6.0 I can no longer play my purchased music. The itunes store is telling me I am not authorized to play the song files, so I log into my account and it says authorization successful. After I click ok I receive the error message:
"We could not complete you Music Store request. An unknown error occurred (-208)."
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling itunes, and have even tried downgrading to itunes 5.0. Itunes 5.0 wouldn't play the songs because it said I needed itunes 6.0 in order to play my music, and that I would have to upgrade.
I have also tried deauthorizing my computer and then playing the song again but I still receive the same error message.

Cross-posted from another thread.. This *WORKS*:
After having checked my other computer for what files had been altered or created this last day (during thich i had successfully authorized it for playback in preview and for purchased music) i found the file "SC Info.sidb" under "X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info". This appears to hold your authorization keys or some other magic stuff. By deleting this files parent folder, iTunes was forced into asking me to authorize this computer again for playback, with the difference this time that there were some other options on the authorization dialog, just like there should be when for the first time authorizing a computer to play protected iTunes content. When I then entered my information as always and was expecting to see the same -208 error, i was instead greeted with sweet opera that I had been longing to listen to.
A minute or so later, I found this article on the net:
    http://nslog.com/archives/2003/05/02/authorizingitunes_scinfo.php
It describes the same problem, but for users of macs, but the same principle applies to windows machines. The only thing fifferent is the paths to the key database. "I:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info"
Try the same procedure and hopefully your iTunes copy should work again. Just remember to make sure all iTunes related processes are shut down first before trying this. It might not matter, but that is what I did.

  • Cannot play purchased music or shows, have tryed the 5 r's, apple suggesti.

okay so i bought the new ipod video 30 gig, like a few days ago. i just bought two episodes of Lost from season 2, the first two episodes of the season. they play fine on my computer on itunes, they wont play on my ipod. this is what happens: i click on the episode, it pauses for 3 seconds and than a blue/purple screen comes up for like 6 seconds and than it goes back tothe menu with the two episodes.
i also bought the new CD from Anti-Flag today as well from itunes, they play fine on itunes but on my ipod it skips from song to next song without playing it but when i plug it in my computer it says it played X number of times.
    plz help me.

Sorry, can't help. But the same thing's happening to me, too. I only have two computers authorized. I've restored my iPod 2x to factory defaults and deleted and reinstalled Quicktime/iTunes too many times to count.
Apple tech support hasn't exactly been helpful; try nada help. I've asked them to check on the account and they say everything OK. My iPod plays non-protected music fine, it's just the Music Store stuff it skips.

  • Unable to play purchased music after successfully authorize computer

    Cannot play purchased music:
Prompted for id and password (Authorize Computer).
Next prompt notifies me that the "Machine Authorization was Successful".
    Does nothing.
Double click on song again - repeat Authorize Computer.

Also having exactly the same problem.
I've followed the same steps with the same results.
Even check for the number of authorized computer : only one.
Tried to remove authorization and give it again : no change.
Still unable to listen to the tracks bought on the iTunes Store. It was possible the day I bought them and they have been transferred to the iPod through iTunes.
I have listened to those tracks on my iPod for a few days.
But when reconnecting today (first time since the date of purchase), I cannot listen to those purchased tracks anymore and they seem to have been removed from my iPod by iTunes !!!
This was my first purchase on iTunes Store and it's a very bad experience. Unable to listen to music I've bought !
Could someone give us all an issue, please ?!

  • ITunes 7.5 won't let me play purchased music/TV shows

I am running Leopard 10.5.1. When I try to play purchased music or television shows the window for Authorizing in to iTunes pops up. So I put my password in, but another window pops up that says "There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. So I try to authorize and deauthorize but there are errors.
I tried to go to my account and deauthorize all of my accounts, but there is nothing there to let me do that.
If someone can please help me with this I can stop pulling my hair out! Thanks

  • Touch quits playing purchased music with beep

Hello My new touch 32GB stops playing purchased music partway through the song beeps then goes to the next song. You cannot use the back arrow to go back to the previous song like the new song was the beginning of the play list. Sometimes the songs will play through but most of the time they skip through. It happens at random times for each song and different times everytime the same song is played. I have 3.1.2 OS i think. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Deactivated all computers and reactivated 1 computer. still cannot transfer purchased music.

Deactivated all computers. Reactivated 1 computer. Cannot transfer purchased music because itunes Stores says i still have 5 computers activated already.

If you did not already, I would try quitting iTunes and launching it again (or even restarting your computer because part of iTunes may keep running even when you quit iTunes).  Also, if you used the Deauthorize All command from the button on the Account Information screen (as described in my earlier reply), it's possible that Apple's server database needs to get updated in a way that is not immediate.  So I would try waiting a few hours and then try to authorize your laptop again.
Question:  You said you "reactivated" your laptop.  Does that mean it was already one of your authorized computers before you gave the Deauthorize All command?  Or is this a new computer that has never been authorized with your Apple ID (iTunes Store account)?
NOTE:  Only older 128 kbps songs purchased from the iTunes Store had DRM, so if this song is a recent purchase (without DRM), it should play whether the computer is authorized for the Apple ID or not.

  • I Pod does not play purchased music.

My i Pod will not play purchased music. It will scroll songs until it gets to one not purchased from i Tunes. What steps can be taken to resolve this situation?

In iTunes go to the Store menu at the top and Deauthorize your computer. Now play one of the purchased songs on your computer and when prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Resync the songs to your iPod.

  • ITunes on Vista - crashing when I try to play purchased music

Crashes when I try to play purchased music that I've copied from another machine.
It has been authorized for two accounts, obviously ones that own the music, and playing songs brought from either account simply cause iTunes to crash, and it comes up with "iTunes has stopped working..."
Brand new vista install, and brand new iTunes install.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem. Trouble is Vista is a new operating system that went to market filled with problems, the main one being nothing was ready to be compatable with it. Apple support recommened upgrading iTunes to the latest version sine Vista will not recognise older versions. I upgrade every time one is offered. It stopped my Dell from crashing everytime I tried to use the iPod. Try it, it may work.

  • Nano won't play purchased music from iTunes 6!

Is there anyone else that is having problems playing purchased music from iTunes 6 on your iPod? My 4GB iPod nano is not playing (i.e. skipping over) songs that I have purchased AFTER I upgraded to iTunes 6. My iPod software is up-to-date and I tried resetting the iPod, but neither helped. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
    -Ben Powell

From what I've read, resetting your nano erases the music, etc. from your nano, putting the software back to its original state.
This really has to s*ck, but if it works, its good that you can fix it that way. It does, however, make a great real life case for backing up your music.
I've been using software (no I don't work for them) called e-backup for my email. I have receipts and other email from 2002! But, the point: it allows you to backup other folders/files. I included my music as an option yesterday because I remember losing term papers, etc. that I didn't backup to floppy or disk. Just in case!

  • HT5517 My AppleTv only allows me to play purchased music from iTunes.  I have an extensive library that I burned from CD's.  How do I play this?  Thanks

My AppleTV only allows me to play purchased music from iTunes.  I have an extensive library that I burned from CD's that I am pulling my hair out to figure out how to play them.  Is this possible?  If so, how?  Thanks

Your music library needs to be in iTunes on a Mac or PC. In iTunes enable Home Sharing and you should see your music library and playlists on the Apple TV. Both the computer and ATV have to be on the same WiFi network.
See the following page on Home Sharing.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:
