Cannot play region 2 DVD

Hi all. Very new to the Mac world. So far I love it:)
The migration from a PC was painfull but I need help with this topic.
I have quite a few DVD's from Greece. I can watch them at my Home ent. system since I was able to unlock my DVD player and at my Windows box I had a couple of programs that could override the restriction (DVD region free, dvd genie etc).
Now my Mac will not play these movies (I get the usual message that I have 4 changes allowed which is standard on every computer dvd drive)
Is there a workaround on this problem?
Is there software for the mac that will do the same thing?
If everything fails I guess I could buy a super drive from Europe and install it.
Anyway your help will be greatly appreciated.

You might try VLC player, but newer drives are tougher on any platform.

Maybe you could by a cheap external and set the region on it?

This is supposed to happen, licensing issue mean that Apple can't AirPlay protected content to other devices. You might try VLC instead of Apples built in DVD player.

  • Cannot Play Interactive DVD on MacBook

Am completely new to MAC, so please forgive me if this is a completely stupid question:
For some reason I cannot get my MacBook to play an interactive tutorial DVD. It plays all other DVD's I own without any problems, but for this one it gives "+supported disk not found+" message. I am sure nothing is wrong with the DVD, as it plays normally on my PC and my TV's DVD player. Spent the whole day trying to figure out what's wrong but still cannot.
Should I just download RealOne Player for MAC and try to play it there? Or is there any kind of codec I need to install?
Please help, as this is driving me nuts and I really need to be able to play this DVD on my MAC in front of my staff tomorrow!

Apple Support told me that most likely that DVD was formatted specifically for Windows, therefore it would not be played on MAC.

PLEASE COULD SOMEONE HELP ME GIVE ME THE FORMAT DETAILS I NEED TO GET THIS RIGHT.
I HAVE A SHOW COMING UP ON THE 5TH AUGUST AND I WOULF LIKE TO HAVE MY DVD TO HAND OUT
PLEASE HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP!

    Hi:
You probably authored a HD DVD and those just play in your MAc, not in standard DVD players. Check your disc properties in DVDSP:
    and/or here
You must select SD DVD to play in standard players.
    Hope that helps !

  • Cannot play DVD movies in Windows XP

Does anyone know of any driver that I have to download in order to play just regular old DVD movies with Boot Camp? The CD-ROM aspect of the drive works fine, as I play games all the time...but when I try to play a movie it says that it cannot....has anyone found a fix to this?

Lol well unfortunately it didn't, I installed it, popped a movie in, and this is the messege that i got:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
It was just a regular DVD movie bought from the store, not a burnt one or anything...I'm confused...

  • U330 ATI cannot play DVD

For some reason, I cannot play a DVD in Window Media Player while using the ATI graphics.  I get an error that says something like, "WMP cannot play DVD because the codec, graphics driver, digital copy protection, etc. are not compatible. You can try to update your graphics driver... blah blah blah"  I updated to the latest ATI driver from their website, but I still get the same error.
I tried downloading another player, but that didn't work either.  Any suggestions?

You either have to install a DVD codec or you can use VLC player.

  • HP Pavilion dm4 - Windows 7, 64-bit. Error message: Windows Media Player won't play my DVD

Here is the actual error message. The video card has an updated driver. I can't figure out how to resolve this -
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

    Hi,
First of all, if you've recently installed any virtual drive software ( an exmple of this is Daemon Tools ), temporarily uninstall it, restart the notebook and see if this has corrected the error.
If the above doesn't apply, try downloading and installing the free KLite codec pack on the following link.
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/
When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and check again.
    Let me know.

  • Burned a DVD but wont play in DVD player

pretty much wat the topic says. i'm 13, i burned a few movies that i got from iTunes music store and when i popped the DVD into my DVD player i said that the playback feature was unable to be used or something like that. is there any way i can burn these to a DVD that will work in a DVD player?

I'm sorry to say, no, you can't.
Movies and TV shows purchased on iTunes can only be played on an authorized computer, or on an iPod.
The DVD that you burned is a data DVD, which is a different format than a video DVD. Burning a DVD as you did is a good idea to back up and protect your purchases, but you cannot play the DVD in a regular DVD player.
If you want to watch your purchased movies on a TV, the options are to hook up an iPod to the TV, hookup the computer to a TV, or wait for Apple's iTV product which will allow wireless streaming of video from your computer to your TV.

  • Does the MacBook Pro play HD DVD?

Somewhere along the line, I was told by an Apple associate that the MBP could play HD DVD, but I suspect he just didn't listen to the question since I haven't heard/seen any evidence to support this. Anyway, I'm now considering purchasing HD DVDs exclusively and I use my MBP on the new TV I bought as a 2nd monitor. So I suppose in short, Is the MBP able to play HD DVD in the Apple shipped Superdrive? Thanks

The MBP can only play normal DVDs, it cannot play HD-DVDs, your Apple associate was probably high when he said that. Also, HD-DVD has been announced as the loser of the format wars to blu-ray.

  • I cannot play a region 1 DVD only Region 4 on Qosmio X500

    Hi All
How do I get around this as I cannot play a region 1 DVD only Region 4?
    Regards

    Thanks, tried that, already locked
The main reason for requesting is that I travel worldwide and would like to watch a movie but am unable to do so because of this I have to carry any movies with me which is extra weight and I used to purchase a DVD/s in the country I am in at the time and once finished give it away or post it home as not to have the extra weight on me.
    Thanks again

  • HELP! Cannot Play DVDs!

Hello all. It really seems like my sis's Mac mini Intel Core Duo is "plagued" with many many problems...
Today she attempted to play a self-recorded DVD from a friend, it played OK, it was the FIRST time she played a DVD, so when she poped the disc in, DVD Player kicks in (she didn't use Front Row), and it asked about the Region Code of the disc, since the disc was self-made, there is no code, but she chose Code 1 anyway, since most of our commercial discs are in Code 1.
She was able to watch the DVD.
The 2nd time round when she tried to watch the disc, it will not play anymore. I tested with other commerical DVDs, at least 2, "Fantastic Four" and "Star Wars III", all gave the same 'results' below:
    In DVD Player:
DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from
A system error was encountered [-70028]
    In Front Row:
When insert and trying to read the DVD, it will go straight to 1 choice highlighted only, "Eject DVD", then the following pops from right:
    The DVD cannot be played
There is a problem with the disc.
We are able to burn CDs with the drive, but did not burn any lately.
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?? Looks like I am going to "bother" AppleCare again.
    Thanks and cheers

Hi guys, thanks for the prompt reply, I have tried both and now "counting down" the min. 15 minutes shut down, hopefully everything will turn out just fine.
I have tested that self-recorded DVD my sis has on my iMac G5, and it plays just fine with DVD Player.
    Cheers

Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works.
