Cannot play rented movie

cannot play rented movie

We rented four movies. We successfully played one. Then we deleted one because we saw it on the plane. Neither of the two movies left will play. I press the play button, the info window says it's accessing the iTunes store, the scrubber bar appears, and nothing else happens. No viewer window pops up, the time counter remains at zero, and the play button reverts to the play symbol (not the pause symbol). No luck with iTunes support yet.

  • Cannot play rented movie on my macbook

I rented a movie, downloaded it and now when I try to play the movie I get only a black screen with no movie.  The chapter stills are visible.

I believe I've answered my questions, thanks to some discussions I found here.
    1. Although I can watch the movie I rented immediately on my MacBook Pro, I must wait (maybe an hour or more) before I can watch it on my Apple TV. I have no idea why that's the case and it's unfortunate, but apparently that's why I cannot find the rental on my Apple TV.
    2. The rental will (apparently) eventually show up in the top shelf, not under "Movies," but under "Computers," where a category called "Rentals" will magically appear (it currently does not exist).
Comment: neither of these facts is particularly obvious or intuitive. Apple's FAQ should spell this out.

    Hey chuul3,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines the exact error message you are receiving, along with steps towards a resolution:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297
    "Error 3001,"  "-42110," or "5103"
This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.
    Thanks,

  • HT1657 cannot play rented movies as they are not there to play what to do?

What should I do as I rented two movies and was unable to watch them after they took forever to download?

    I had the same problems.
    There are two solutions...
    a) Logout from iStore at Apple TV, Restart Apple TV, Login again
    If this way won't work:
    b) Restore to factory setting helps.

  • Cannot Sync Rented Movies to Apple TV

I cannot sync rented movies to my Apple TV. I contacted Apple Support and they told me to update my Apple TV software (done), update my iTunes software (done) and reauthorize my computer (done). But it still won't work. It gives me the option to "move" the movie and it starts the syncing process but never finishes the process and never gives any type of error message as to why it does not complete the move. It just moves the movie back to the other side of the "move" screen. I have no problem syncing tv shows to my Apple TV. The Apple rep's response was that he recommended that I not purchase anymore rental movies. Isn't there something else I could try to fix it? Has anyone else encountered this? Thank you very much.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase rental movies in I-Tunes if you want to watch them on Apple TV. I rented "Batman Begins" in I-Tunes and Apple TV says it is "not authorized" to play it. I rented the "Darjeeling Trials", and Apple TV played the first few minutes - but when I paused it and came back to it, it said "this movie has expired" and even deleted the rental from I-Tunes for me - niiiice.
My Apple TV is brand new, latest model, 160GB, latest latest software (downloaded today) and I also have the latest lates (7.1.1) I-Tunes software. IF you download thru I-Tunes, RENTALS DO NOT WORK with this software.
Download direct to Apple TV instead (at least that works... )

  • Cannot play purchased movie

Now I've never had a problem like this before but for some reason last night after I purchased Resident Evil Degeneration from the i-tunes store off of my home computer it told me that I could not view it because my computer was not authorized.
But every time I try to authorize it AGAIN, it tells me that it is already authorized. So why can I still not view this movie that I purchased?! I've authorized three out of my five computers ( one being my laptop the other out of use ) so I just cannot understand why it is that I suddenly cannot play this movie. Is it this particular movie or my computer or itunes itself?

    Neross,
    You are not alone.
Back on June 9/09, my post titled "iTunes 8(x) + OS 10.5.7 NOT Compatible??" was about this very same problem.
    Here's the link:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2031631&tstart=0
In that post, I wrote that noticed that after I updated to iTunes 8 on both my MacPro (with OS. 10.4.11) and my MacBook Pro (with OS 10.5.7), ONLY my Mac with OS 10.5.7 is now unable to play ANY purchased OR rented movies AND tv shows.
I also noticed at that time that a lot of the other people who were posting about their own problems about not being able to play any movies in iTunes, that those people were running *OS 10.5.7* while using a recently updated version of iTunes 8.x
So Neross, please take a moment to read my post and +please add your voice and situation to the building string of voices so that we can combine all our voices into one place and bump this situation up to the top of this iTunes discussion forum in order to bring attention to this problem+.
*+For 3 weeks+, +I have been without ANY ability to view and play ANY movies and tv shows -- and because of that -- I have not made any purchases or rentals+*.

  • HT200109 Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?

Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?
Great, so now I have to airplay it by linking my computer to my Apple TV and then the movie has to buffer! So, all that time I spent downloading the HD video has to technically "download" again by buffering. The more I use Apple TV, the more I feel like this item was not created by Apple. I don't even use it for what I originally purchased it for. If I would have known that anytime I wanted to sync a movie from my computer to Apple TV by using airplay that it would have to buffer the movie, I would have never ever ever ever ever purchased this waste of time device. So the video has to technically play all the way through one time first so Apple TV can "remember" the movie to play it back in real time afterwards.
Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong that can be fixing my problem? I should have known that the Apple TV had so many things backwards when simple things like when you are using the remote and you reach the bottom of your list, in order to cycle back to the top of your list you have then press the directional buton back the other way rather than most modern day devices that will automatically cycle you back to the top or to the other side when you reached the bottom or end but keep on pressing the button. That **** annoys me when I am doing a search for a movie and have to type the name in manually and have to cycle back and forth to the letters. It makes me feel like I am using a rotary phone or something!

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV.  So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work.  I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

  • HT4437 Cannot play protected movies on AirPlay from iPad

I cannot play a movie from my iPad to my Apple TV device. I get an error "cannot play protected movies". Why is this when I bought the digital copy with the Blu-ray Disc ?

I'm not aware of any third-party receiver that supports video over AirPlay, so you'll probably need an Apple TV. But then, as long as you have a WiFi network in your house, you should be able to play the movie through the Apple TV to your projector without needing Internet as long as the movie has completely downloaded. For more information on AirPlay see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437
In some cases, though, people have reported that even with the rental completely downloaded (or so they said) it still asked to connect to the iTunes Store, so it's not 100% reliable, it seems.
    Regards.

  • Could not play rented movie.... because it is authorized to play on another

"Could not play rented movie.... because it is authorized to play on another Computer or device"

    Thanks

No one have any idea what I can do??
Is there any way to get a refund?
I downloaded a few rentals about 27 days ago.... they're set to expire tomorrow and wanted to watch them... but for some reason I have the above problem. It's the computer I used to download them from....

  • Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later."

Can't play rented movies.  They appear to download OK and the timer accurately reports days remaining to watch.  But whenever I try to play the movie I get this message, "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.". Have been using the Apple TV for 2 weeks and everything else seems to work OK.  The Apple TV reports its SW is up to date.  I've tried this with two movies rented frim iTunes directly from the Apple TV.

If after you download the movie, you navigate away and do something else with your Apple TV the content you have downloaded will be overwritten and you'll need to download it again. It's a pain in the neck for many who have slow downloads but it's something that comes with using volatile memory rather than a hard drive for storage.
Perhaps you're not doing this, but I thought it worth mentioning.

  • Cannot play netflicks movies with firefox 4.0.1 on Mac OS X

I update the silverlight plugin and I still cannot play any movies.
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    Browser: Firefox 4.0.1
Silverlight version: 4.0.60310.0, last update is March 10, 2011
This use to work in previous versions prior to FF 4.0.

n Firefox make sure you have at least two (2) tabs open - (Ctrl+T opens a new tab)
In the address bar of one tab, type "about:config" - minus the quotes, of course
You'll see a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and continue to the configuration page.
There's a search bar at the top. Type "js" - again, minus the quotes.
In the results you'll see pdfjsviewer.disabled with a vaule of false. Click it once, then right click it and choose Toggle to make the value "True".
    Close that tab.
Click Tools>Options and go to the Applications tab
Locate Adobe Acrobat Document (or Portable Document File (PDF)) in the list and click the drop-down to select "Use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". (Mine doesn't have that because I also have Acrobat Pro installed)
    Click OK.
Click Tools>Addons to see that the Acrobat plugin is installed
Close and restart Firefox. PDFs should now open in a browser window with the Reader plugin.
Note: This doesn't work for me since the update to 23 and I should have the choice of Reader or Acrobat plugins. Firefox is trying desperatelt to FORCE users to use their crappy PDFJSViewer, which doesn't handle multimedis or forms PDFs.
As to the NPAPI and security risks, that's blown WAY out of proprotion. There are antivirus companies trying to sell their products to Mac users (who will NEVER need them) and they use this "urban legend" to bolster their case.
