Cannot play songs from iphone or ipad

I'm sorry if this is a repeated question. But suddenly about 95% of my songs on iphone 3gs have turned into grey color and it cannot be played, either from iphone itself or from itunes in laptop under iphone device. It also happened to my ipad. All albums are transferred but they appear to be grey. 5% of the songs are still black and can be played alright. I'm so frustrated!! I did try everything. Please..if anybody can help me. Thank you...
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with itunes 10 that I just downloaded or not

It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.

  • I cannot synch. songs from itunes to ipad 2 (have authorised computer). Also cannot tranfer apps from ipad to Mac despite authorising the computer. Any advice? Thanks.

I cannot synch songs from itunes on my Mac to my ipad 2. It worked the first time, but stripped them off on a subsequent synch and I cannot get it to work again. It synchs apps but not music. Also, despite authorising my computer, synching strips off apps. purchased on the ipad (i.e., it will not transfer them to the Mac). All very mystifying. Any help gratefully received (I have tried everything on the troubleshooting page of the ipad guide).
    Many thanks
    Chris

Apple devices are designed to only allow you to sync to one itunes library at a time. If you try, it will replace everything on the deivce with the itunes library you are syncing to.
If she has already synced her ipad to another computer, then this is normal behavior.
It would be best to create a library just for her. If you can import/export the music and photos on the computer into her own itunes library.

The reason that content from her ipad is showing up on your iphone is probably due to you both sharing the same apple id and having automatic downloads turned on in the settings.
You can turn this off by going to settings/itunes and app stores/automatic downloads/turn off

The only way you can do what you want is to go to iPod preferences and change from automatic update to manual.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot play song from purchased album

I purchased 2 albums from the iTunes music store - 1) Spin Doctors "If the river was whisky" and 2) Steely Dan " A Decade of Steely Dan". When originally downloaded, all played fine on all devices (via iTunes Match) Iphone, ipad, Macbook Air. But now I am unable to play one song from each album. Specifically,
"If the River was whisky" and "FM". When trying to play the song, I am prompted to enter my Apple ID to authorize the computer, which of course it is already authorized as the other songs from the same albums play. I have de-authorized all computers and just authorized one but still cannot play. Note that the file type of the problems tracks is "ACC audio file" not "purchased ACC audio file"
    Help anyone?

Delete and redownload it if doing so is free in your country.

  • Cannot play music from Iphone on iTunes

    This is the setup:
I have a home PC that I use to sync / buy content on my Iphone. When I come to work, I have none of this data on the PC, but I want to play the content of my Iphone through my PC.
When I click on the iphone triangle and click music, the content is all grey and I cannot play (or double click to play).
How can I play this music on my Itunes?
    Thanks!

I've had this problem for ages. You've inspired me to find a fix and I appear to have found one.
I manually sync my iphone at home (computer A) and I wanted to play songs on Computer B at work. The songs were all greyed out on Computer B.
Now, to get around this I have selected "Manually manage music and videos" from the sync options in iTunes.
I have no other options selected for sync options as I do actually want to manually manage music rather than sync it.
Now, when I click on "Music" from within itTunes --> iPhone it is no longer greyed and is playable through Computer A and Computer B.
Think that made sense, if not let me know

  • How to play songs from iPhone 3G in iTunes on the Computer

    Hello
Maybe my question is some bit silly but I am also more than perplex at this moment. For storage reasons all my iTunes song files (no purchased songs from iTunes store, but all CD imported) are stored on a server volume.
Syncing my iPhone 3G together on my PowerBook with iTunes works well but ... when I am on travel I would like to play (only to play, not to transfer!) the synced songs from my iPhone on my connected PowerBook on iTunes in order to stream the music to an Apple Airport Express Adapter. I can see the songs greyed out on my iPhone but I can not play them.
Is there something wrong in my iTunes configuration or does I have missed an important "concept"? Do I really need to carry with me my iPhone together with an external HD drive where all songs files are stored on it? In this "application" case the iPod functionality of my iPhone 3G would be really useless. I can belief that.
Thanks for any advice, best regards
    André

    Hello
Thank you for your response. I would like to play the songs on my iPhone on the very same computer, account and iTunes Library I synced my iPhone with. Although there is no play access to the songs on my iPhone from iTunes. I thought I could take them with me and play the songs on my iPhone to the very same computer I synced it with. It Seems not to work as concept? So I think I have to buy a "stupid" docking station to make it complicate.
    Thank you, André

  • Cannot play song from multiple accounts

Ok, so after updating my iPhone to iOS7, I cannot play all of the music I've bought because I use more than one account (3 to be precise). I wanted to know if there was any way that I could have all of my music playable on my phone. The songs show up as there but when I try to play them it just skips over them and then displays a red box with a square inside of it.

It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.

  • My computer crashed, cant play songs from iPhone in Itunes, getback app?

After my computer crashed i install new system and itunes. When i connected an iphone, i cant play songs on it. Somebody told me, when i start any sync i will lost all my songs.I would like to keep it or i will loose them. And as well how can i get back all my app what wasnt on my iphone installed?

hard drives will always crash, and you should ALWAYS keep a backup. it's surprising how many people still don't know this little fact about computers, and then they do nothing by cry when all of their data is gone.
let this be a lesson from here on out - ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA. the easiest way is to use an external hard drive.
there are apps that will allow you to get your music off of the iPhone, but they are not supported by apple.
and just because you think it's stupid does not mean it is done to annoy you. it was most likely done as an agreement with the music industry, but since no one here officially works at apple, we don't know the actual reasons.
also, you can "repurchase" the apps you have for free. you will be asked if you want to redownload the app. (i've done this.)
music (from what i understand) that was purchased on the iPhone but not yet synced can be synced without deleting it off of the iPhone, but this can only be done once (i think).

  • I cannot download songs from computer to Ipad. Have lost the few songs on the ipad as well.

I have been unable to sync songs from the computer to the ipad. what can i do?

    Are you syncing like this?
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If that does not work, post back and describe what is happening. All you said was that you can't sync music, but you provided no details at all as to what is actually going on.

  • Cannot select or play songs from iphone playlist

just started having an issue of not being able to select songs(all purchased from itunes at one time or another), photo display of artist closes immediately

When you enable iTunes Match on your phone you can no longer manage your music using iTunes, you have to download it from iCloud.  With iTunes Match, when you play a song it simultaneously downloads in the background.  You can also download complete albums by going to the album and tapping on the cloud download icon.  Unfortunately, at the present time, the only way to delete music once downloaded is to delete all music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swiping All Music and tapping Delete.  Hopefully they will restore the option to deleted individual songs again in a future update.

  • Play songs from iPhone in iTunes?

    Hi all,
I've been trying to get my head around this, but I just can't get it to work. During music lessons, my teacher is able to play back songs on his iPod through his macbook (using iTunes, he selects the connected iPod and then browses to the song and is able to play it). I have tried to achieve the same thing, but for some reason all songs on my iPhone are greyed out and unclickable (thus unplayable).
Now I must admit that I have only recently purchased my MacBook, so the problem may be caused that the iPhone was not originally activated on this iTunes. I have however made sure that I authorized the Macbook to use my iTunes account. Also note that all songs currently on the iPhone are synched from my MacBook, afaik. I have also tried to perform a reset and completely reconfigure the iPhone, but this also did not fix the problem.
Does anyone have a clue how I could fix this problem? It would be great if I could use this function, cause that would mean I won't have to bring my huge external with me on every trip.
    Cheers

i expect your teacher is using the _*disk mode*_ of the (regular) iPod as an external storage and keeps the tunes there.
your iPhone does not have that feature. click here for information.

  • Cannot remove songs from iphone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am unable to remove songs that are directly purchased through my iphone. For example I recently bought a CD by mistake and no matter what I do I can't get it off my iphone's ipod. I have unchecked the songs on itunes and then re-synced. I have also checked the "sync only checked songs box" and nothing works. I am so frustrated, please help!

Is this CD in your iTunes library on your computer? Did you successfully transfer this purchase: File>Transfer Purchases. Once in your iTunes library, if you remove the checks next to these songs & then sync, the songs should be removed from your phone.

  • Cannot play song from Laptop (MacPro)

I am trying to play a song on my laptop (MacPro) that I downloaded on my iPhone (that I now have on my laptop).  I get a message saying that my computer is not authorized but when I go to authorize, I see that this computer is already authorized but the song still will not play.  ??

This error message indicates that your music folder has been moved or deleted for whatever reasons.
Try to locate your "iTunes Music" folder - Does it contain (subfolders) audio-tracks?
If you are able to locate this folder make sure to point iTunes Preferences Advanced to this exact location.

  • Cannot play songs from old Apple ID

I had initially registered my iTunes with one email address and purchased a bunch of music. I have since changed email addresses... but certain songs require me me to login with my old email address. I used the same password with both accounts... but I still can't play the song.

    This page had some advice:
If the correct email address is listed on your My Info page, simply add a space after your street address to update your My Info account with your new email address.

  • I cannot transfer songs FROM iPhone to iTunes

I am not able to sync my iPhone songs to iTunes library.

Have you tried checking the manually sync songs (instead of automatic) in the device overview screen (the one that appears when you click on the iPhone in the sidebar)? Then click the triangle next to the iphone in the sidebar and click on the music tab and try manually dragging the songs to your library.
