Cannot play songs purchased on an old email account.

I have an old email account (I still have access to it) that I used to buy lots of songs from the iTunes store.  For some reason, I cannot play those songs anymore.  I have reset the password so that I can remember it but I am still not allowed to play these songs.  I am not talking about a couple of songs...I am talking about hundreds of them.  Please..I need help!
Thanks!

  • New hard drive; can't play songs purchased while under old (changed) login!

My hard drive died and had to be replaced. Fortunately, I had backed up my library, but after importing my library again, I am unable to play any songs purchased under an old email/password. We changed internet providers and then I switched from PC to Mac, so I have changed my email/password twice and am now on my third login for this account. When I go into INFO I can see that the songs I am having problems with are linked to the old logins still. When I am asked to login to authorize these songs, of course, the account no longer exists, because it's the same account! I love music of all kinds, so we are talking about a lot of songs here - there has to be an answer to this problem. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's had to deal with this issue. Any help?

Too many changes - hard drive failures, email address changes, ISP changes and OS changes - unable to solve this issue.

Yes to resetting and yes to new SW. I just used the new updater to load the latest version. We had the same problem with the old version.

  • I cannot play songs purchased on a former computer (two computers ago).

I have recently used migration assistant to move from iMac to my new MacBook Pro.  However, now on my new MacBook Pro iTunes wants me to authorize my account - which I have already done with my current account.  When I try to play any song that was purchased on the computer before the older iMac (not the new MacBook Pro), iTunes asks me if I want to authorize my account, but iTunes is bring up a dialog box with my very old account info (old email which I do not have access to and of course my current password will not work) - not my current account info.  iTunes seems to recognize my current account - it is authorized to play all the songs that I have purchased from the new MacBook Pro and the older iMac, just not the song purchased from the computer before that.  And strangely, all these song played just find on my older iMac.

  • Cannot play songs purchased with gift card (on my iPod on)

I just purchased the King Kong soundtrack on iTunes with a gift card I received for Christmas. I downloaded the songs onto my laptop and transferred them to my iPod (video, 60 GB). When I try to play the songs on my iPod, they will just be skipped over to the next track. (I can play them off my iPod when it's attached to my laptop, or my G4 tower at home, which is also Authorized).
I've purchased other songs with my account in the past and they play fine. I checked the song info. in iTunes and the account information is identical to the other purchases. The only difference seems to be these were purchased with the gift card (which the file info. doesn't indicate).
What do I need to do? Thank you brilliant folks out there.

Alas, did not work. Tried playing a few songs in iTunes, copied those songs over to the iPod, no dice.
I manually manage my songs on iPod, so I'm hesitant to just auto-sync and see if that would solve it, but I may try that if nothing else works...

  • HT1420 How do I authorise my computer to play songs purchased with an old apple id for which I no longer have the password?

I recently purchased a mac for my daughter. On transfering some songs to her machine from my computer, I was asked for authorisation which I provided.
Some songs however, although they play with no problems on my other two machines, on HER computer asked me to authorise the songs with an apple ID and Password that I no longer have and haven't used in about 5 years. The e-mail ID is closed down now, and I can't remember the password.
    What do I do?

All downloads from the store are tied to the account that downloaded them, so if those songs were bought by that old account then only that old account will be able to authorise them. If you can't remember the password but you know it's security info then you could try getting the password reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com - if you can then you can change the primary email address on it by logging into the account : http://appleid.apple.com
If you can't get the password reset that way then you could try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
    Or maybe Apple : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

  • Won't allow me to play music purchased by an old email address, even though my computer is authorized

I have a ton of music that I purchased when my Mac account had a yahoo email address. I've updated my account to include my current mac address. iTunes won't allow me to play any of the old music, and it asks me to sign in with my yahoo address version of my account - which doesn't exist anymore. So I authorize the current account, and iTunes says I'm already authorized. Still won't allow me to play the music. How can I get all of that music to be a part of my real, current iTunes account??? Thanks

Same thing here. I am getting the authorization message with iPad, 2 iPods and 3 iPhones. I'm furious about this. I reviewed my itunes account info and everything looks accurate. I downloaded a movie this morning and I can't sync it to iPad. Let's see what explanation is offered.

  • Cannot play songs purchased on 3/11/09

I can't play the 5 songs that I purchased on 3/11/09 on my Mac.
When I click on Play, it looks like it is starting to play for a split second but all that happens is that Last Count is updated. All songs previously purchased are playable.
On 3/11/09, I upgraded to 8.1 and ran Disk Utility to clean up all all HD permissions. I am receiving no authorization errors and only have 1 account and 1 computer.

  • Playing songs bought with an old aol account that's now inactive

I've got a handful of songs which I bought in 2004 using an aol account. I no longer have that account so I can't authorize these songs on my new computer. To make matters worse, when I tried to set up an apple account and it asked me for the credit card number that I used for the original account, it won't let me put in an expired date -- I no longer have the credit card I used to set up the original account.
This really ***** because I paid for the songs and should be able to listen to them! What a rip-off!

Well, backing them up as AAC files won't do any good if you can't get iTMS authorization for them.
You'd have to had burned them as audio files and re-rip them as mp3s.
Sadly, I know all about this, having purchased some Napster songs, backed them up in WMA-protected format, and somehow those Napster licenses have gone missing....and my Napster ID didn't even change. </bitter>

  • Can't play songs purchased under old AOL account after upgrade to Apple ID

I guess I've been abandoned by the iTunesStoreSupport. They basically told me what caused my problem and now will not return any of my emails.
This message is mostly to inform anyone who "upgrades" an old AOL iTunes account to an Apple ID to be sure to use the same credit card for the new Apple account that you used for your AOL account.
About 2 years ago I "upgraded" my AOL iTunes Store account to be an APPLE ID. When I did that, I used a different credit card for my Apple ID than I had been using for my old AOL account. Big mistake. At the time I had no idea it would cause problems later. I don't remember seeing anything at all warning me about the importance of that at the time. Now, according to Shwetha at iTunesStoreSupport it is "important to use the same credit card for a successful conversion".
Everything worked fine with iTunes for the past 2 years, but a month ago I upgraded my hard drive in my computer and promptly recycled my old hard drive. Another mistake on my part.
A few days later when I went to play a song purchased under the old AOL account I got stuck in that endless loop where I get the prompt "This computer is not authorized to play __. Would you like to authorize it?" Then it asks me to Upgrade my AOL account, but I already did that 2 years ago. I went ahead and attempted to upgrade the AOL account again, but I was still stuck in the endless loop. (note: I did successfully authorize the computer for my Apple ID with no problems.)
I followed every step in the Troubleshooting Guide "support.apple.com/kb/TS1389" including the step where I delete the SC Info folder, but I was still stuck in that endless loop of authorizing / deauthorizing.
Shwetha was very professional and did work with me pretty quickly through 3 rounds of emails and various troubleshooting attempts. But as soon as we realized that I had used a different credit card when upgrading the AOL account to an Apple account and that the conversion was not successful, they stopped replying to my emails. I guess I'm a lost cause.

I repeat here a post I made elsewhere: I hope that it helps you, and, if it does, please post the info elsewhere.
You can get this problem solved!
I encountered this problem yesterday, when I tried to play some songs in my ITunes library on a new computer; this is an ITunes library that I had moved from my old computer.
I called Apple Support, and the excellent Tech person began looking into the problem.
Meanwhile, while I was waiting for him, I Googled the problem (which I should have done first): lots and lots of people (I discovered) have bumped into this same frustrating problem.
Yes: the problem arises when you move to a new computer with an ITunes library that includes songs you bought, way back when, using an AOL ID.
Apple Support contacted ITunes. And ITunes tracked down my AOL account, and then issued me (that is, me and Apple Support) a new Apple ID. There are two or three additional steps; they are not hard, but you need the combo of help from Apple Support and ITunes. The key thing is getting the new Apple ID, which you must have, and which, once it has done its work, you then can ignore..
I can now listen to everything--and I am signed in to ITunes using my current, usual Apple ID.
Note: All of this would be easier and simpler for us if we could actually speak to someone at ITunes; the only way we can get to a "live" person there is by contacting someone at Apple Support.

Recently I have switched out computers and had copied/ transferred my I ITunes library to the new computer and encountered problem.  Many of the songs in the library were purchased from my old email address of that I no longer use nor did I remember the old password in order to authorize playing from the new computer.   Request advice/assistance to where I am able to play songs acquired through lost password?

  • After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account i don't have and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again.

After upgrading iTunes I keep getting asked to authorize account to play songs purchased with a very old hotmail account (10 years) I don't have anymore and can't recover the password. How can I authorize my songs again? I tried to sign in to hotmail again and it says i don't have an account, but when I try to create a new one with the same name, it says one already exists.
When I try to recover the password from Apple, it of course wants to send an email to the account I can't get into, and when I try to do the security questions, it says my DOB is incorrect. How can that be wrong?! I am pretty sure I know my exact birthdate. Now I can't listen to a bunch of my music.

  • Cannot play songs/videos I purchased in iTunes store

All of a sudden I cannot play songs from the iTunes Store anymore. I buy it, download it, it appears in the list but it won´t play. Trying to convert to AAC gives me error code -208.
I have 4 out of five computers activated.
When I click on a song, it´s title and duration appears on top of the iTunes window but nothing happens then. When I buy a song on my other Mac and move it to my first one it plays with QuickTime. Once imported to iTunes it does not play anymore.
I reinstalled iTunes again - no difference.
All the movies I had within iTunes before and which are still in the folder iTunesMusic/Movies don´t play anymore. They just do nothing. I cannot re-import them into iTunes. Open with iTunes just shows no reaction at all.
Same with some of the songs that played perfectly well before.
Movies create a error message about an invalid public atom and do not play with e.g. Quick Time.
    Any idea?

  • Cannot play song in iTunes – told I'm not authorized but I am

I'm on a Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody Macbook
    Using iTunes 12.1.0.50
When I try to play a certain song, which I happen to have purchased on an old iPhone, or a certain album that I got through Family Sharing with my husband, I am prompted to authorize the device:
I enter my details and then I get this:
But no luck, the songs won't play. I get the first prompt again:
Note that this only happens with two songs purchased on my old iPhone (by Jamie Woon), but not any others, and one album (Yellow House by Grizzly Bear) obtained through Family Sharing.
    Please help

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.
