  • Cannot play video files in new photos app for mac

    Hi There,
I recently moved from an older imac to a new one (both had Yosemite installed). I moved my photos over by copying my old photo library file and pasting it to replace the same file on the new mac. All my photos came over fine, however i am unable to play some of the video files. I get a warning saying 'Cannot Play file - Photos cannot play this video. Do you want to try opening it in Quicktime Player?'. If i try in quicktime it won't open either.
What's strange is that when i go to the info tab for these videos they show as .MOV files that were taken on an iphone 5S - but they are very small in size - 5KB or so. Perhaps the size of the thumbnail image only. Any ideas on how i can fix this? When i open them on the old mac i get an other warning issue stating 'The necessary data reference could not be resolved'
Thanks in advance for any help.
    John

At that size, what copied over is just the reference to the video file, not the video itself. Some suggestions:
    1. In iPhoto, select the video, then in the File menu select Reveal in Finder. If this finds the original file, add it manually to Photos.
    2. Perform a Spotlight search for the video file title/name. If found, move to Photos.
    3. If you imported or modified the files in iMovie, launch it and find/export the originals from there.

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer

I can not find solution to the issue "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer" while attempting to play the file with *.wmv extension. Some computer fail in spite of said missing codec
being present according the windrows media player in Windows 7 box

If Rashid's link does not resolve it... consider the below:
    A)  As of this writing, the codec for GoToMeeting webinar recordings ("G2M4" codec) was only mentioned in *one* web page, of about 10 Microsoft web pages I read, to resolve this problem (and that codec is not included, yet, in their diagnostic tool),
so if you're trying to play a GoToMeeting webinar, simply get the codec for it from their site:  http://www.GoToMeeting.com/codec
    B)  If Windows Media Player (WMP) will not even open the file, you won't be able to get the 4-character codec's name (like "G2M4") from WMP.  But VLC's media player will tell you that code, even when it fails to run the video.... and then you can
    search the internet for it.
    C)  The problem sometimes is not actually a missing codec.  Other things that have helped others, some from:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/the-windows-media-player-12-could-not-play-the-wma/bb823460-44df-4e8d-ba2c-42ec0e111e5a?page=3
    (1) running the System File Checker (SFC.exe),
    (2) opening WMP first (running both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions) then opening the file from inside them,
    (3) confirming that WMP was the file association for WMV files,
    (4) Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, selecting my audio device, and looking for a "5.1" setting (I didn't have one), to change to "stereo",
    (5) checking Tools\Options\Devices\Speakers\Properties\Speaker Properties\AdvancedPlayback\ Speakers /HP\Properties\Advanced\Default Format, to select "CD or DVD Quality" (if that setting appears for your device),
    Good luck,

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • TS5148 When I try to play a movie on Netflix from my IPad, I get a pop up saying: Cannot play video. "The connected display is not supported".

When I try to play a movie on Netflix from my IPad, I get a pop up saying: Cannot play video. "The connected display is not supported".  I have updated my Apple TV, tried restarting it, and have tried using my IPod Touch all without any luck. This display has worked in the past. This just happen a couple days ago.
    Any ideas out there?

I have been successfully using my Apple TV with my iPad2 to access Netflix through airplay (mirroring) and suddenly it won't work.  It says "the connected display is not supported"  What's up?
Also when I try to stream Netflix through my Apple TV menu on my television it says "An error occurred loading this content.  Try again later.  But trying again later doesn't work any better.
Now the only way I can watch Netflix is using my small iPad screen.  It appears the problem is with streaming Netflix through my Apple TV

  • Windows Media Player Doesn't play video files or DVDs (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Since then, Windows Media Player has not been able to play any kind of video files or DVDs. I have tried using the Fixit tool and turning the WMP off and on with the Windows
Features menu, but it has not solved the problem. I have also made sure that my video and audio drivers are up to date.
The errors that come up say:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer.
    and
Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.
Any help with this would be great, because I like using WMP better than other media players.

    Hi,
Firstly, please try to use the Video example in C:\Users\Public\Videos\Sample Videos if it could play normally.
Secondly, try to reinstall Graphic Card driver for test.
If problem persists, try to remove WMP in Windows feature and add it again for test.

  • Why do I only get the audio when I play video files?

I only receive the audio portions when I play video files.  The video is blank/black.  This is happening with mpg., avchd and the videos posted to websites; YouTube, Facebook etc.  The only video files I can play are windows media files.  Windows media PLAYER won't play the other video files?  I have the latest updates for my video card and adobe flash player.  Thanks for any info!  Elwood  Windows 7 64 bit, i7 980x @333 6 core processor, 12 GB ram DDR 1600, Radeon 5850 GPU, OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD

It is most likely that the various files contain CODEC's, that are either not installed on your computer, or PrE is not able to use them.
You list several file types, and I would urge you to first see this FAQ Entry, then get one of the file info utilities, linked in it, G-Spot, MediaInfo, or MediaInspector, then post the details on the various CODEC's: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0
Also, that WMP cannot play the video indicates the likelihood of a CODEC issue.
Try either of the great, free media players, VLC Player, or MediaPlayer Classic HC. Both contain many useful CODEC's, but they do NOT install them into the OS.
Good luck, and with the CODEC info, someone can give your recommendations.

  • Cannot play videos in iPhoto since SL upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL, it appears that I cannot play videos that I have loaded to iPhoto. I go into an event in iPhoto in which I have some digital camera videos and they do not play. These used to open in QuickTime and run fine. When I click on the video and choose "Show File", it will show me where the file lives. These are fine on my computer and can now run them from here, but it used to work right in iPhoto. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a bug with SL or is there a new setting or something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug. Have you applied the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update? If not do so and try again. If that doesn't work all we can do is report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • "Cannot play video with this frame rate&qu

For reasons that aren't important here I cannot use the Zen video converting software. Instead, I've been using the trial version of the Caniusoft Video to Creative Zen converter. Only once has a video played, but as soon as I closed the video and opened it up again this message appeared. "Cannot play video with this frame rate." Daniusoft offers frame rates from 5 fps to 30. I've tried all of them and none of them work. Has this been a problem for others? Perhaps I need a different converter?
    ps.
..i'm converting flash video to avi. Does that make a difference?

I can't answer your question in full (maybe somebody else can). However, I am aware that both the Zen and the Zen X-Fi can only play video files up to 320x240 resolution. Previous players like the Vision M were able to scale files down to this resolution on the fly, but not these two newer players.

  • I have backed up my iPad  using iTunes to windows 8 Lenora laptop but I could not find my files and play video files  in my laptop.

I have backed up my iPad  using iTunes to windows 8 Lenora laptop but I could not find my files and play video files  in my laptop

You cannot access files in the backup on your computer.
Do you mean that you synced with iTunes and transferred your purchased videos and app documents? If that is what you mean, what videos are you talking about? If they are videos that you took with the iPad, they do not sync to iTunes. What files?
What exactly are you trying to do? Details please.

Me either, since I installed a new operating system on my mac book pro - I followed a suggestion of deleting all Flash Player files through system preferences, closing Safari while I install a new version of Flash, but I got an error message saying 'unable to complete installation' - problem remains. Any help, peeps?

Follow the steps to identify the video and audio
format, then look in the list for a codec.
