  • WLM Not playing videos, says I need Flash, but I have it installed

Okay, I originally had a topic going in Microsoft Tech Support, and was told to come here, so I'll copy my original post there.
Which version of Windows Live Messenger are you using ?
    Version 2011 (15.4.3538.513)
Choose your Operating System version :
    Windows 7
    Choose your firewall manufacturer :
    Windows Firewall
Are you connected through a router ? If yes, did you try bypassing the router ?
    Yes
    Additional Details
Okay, since I bought and installed this version of Windows I have been having a problem with WLM, which has just now gotten to the point where it is becoming a hassle. Whenever I send or am sent a video link I will get an error that says "To send or receive Windows Live Messenger content, you need a newer version of Adobe Flash Player. Once Adobve Flash Player has been installed, you may need to exit or restart Windows Live Messenger," which is followed by a link to where I can download Flash. The link, http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/thankyou/activex/?installer=Flash_Player_10_for_Windows_I nternet_Explorer however, is dead. At various times in the past I have attempted to solve this on my own. In brief, what I have done is as follows:
    Uninstall and reinstall Flash
    Uninstall and reinstall WLM
Roll back to previous versions of Adobe
    Updating a pre-existing installation
    Reinstall all drivers
    Reinstall Windows
    thirty minute Prime95 torture test
Fresh installations of WLM with and without MSN+ and Mess installed separately and individually, and in differing orders
Manual and automatic registry integrity checks.
    Avast Anti-Virus on and off
    Windows Firewall on and off
Comodo Firewall on, off, and at all security levels (I installed this after I had tested Windows Firewall, it is currently uninstalled)
Connected through different routers and directly into the modem
    Adobe stress test
Verified Adobe Flash installation integrity twice
After all of this I still get the same error whenever a video link appears in a conversation.
The last post, which lead me here, was this:
Please check how many Adobe flash player you have installed and what version/s are they. To check please access Programs and Features located at Programs under Control Panel. You should at least have 2 listed ( Active x and plugin ).
Also it is possible that installed flash player is corrupted. Kindly uninstall then reinstall Adobe flash player installation in your computer. For steps in uninstalling flash player, please click on the link below:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
If issue still persists, it would be advisable that you contact Adobe support for proper assistance. I recommend that you install flash player thru Internet Explorer. Also please test flash player intalled by going to websites which requires a flash player to view contents such as youtube.com or adobe website itself.  If flash player doesnt work on these websites then the problem is with flash player, not with Live Messenger.
All posts in between the first and last have been similarly unhelpful, and I was quickly escalated to "Experts" and didn't hear anything for two months. Now I was told to come here, so here I am. I am using the latest version of Flash, and as my original post stated, I have installed it, it is not corrupt, it works on everything and anything except WLM.
I have searched Google, Microsoft Tech, and Adobe tech previously. None of the proposed solutions have solved my problem, and as you can probably tell from my list of solutions, my own research became quite disparate as I neared my wit's end. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.
And yes, I checked for multiply installations of Flash Player as he suggested, even though I knew I only had one. And I have also installed it with every browser I could find.

IE9 displays that page and every other page with Flash content correctly. I can start a Flash program directly on my desktop and run it using Flash. My personal assumption was that WLM is pointing to a place that doesn't exist, but I have a friend with a very similar setup, and his WLM is fine. Odder is that on my old computer running Vista I had installed the Seven Transformation Pack from windowsxlive and could watch videos on WLM even though Vista didn't have that capability before. It is only upon installing Windows 7 on this computer that I have had any problems.
I have considered that this is a bad copy of Windows 7, but everything else works perfectly, and I would have had to have installed a corrupted WLM application half a dozen times to still have this error if that were the case.
    WLM is a 32-bit program, installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger

  • Cannot get video images after update flash player

My flash player is playing the audio portion but no video (just a black screen)
I have a new Win7 64 bit comp. using 32 bit Internet Explorer. I have flash version WIN 10.2.152.32 installed. I uninstalled using the adobe uninstaller, restarted between each step as admin (don't know if it matters but I am the only user listed with admin rights but I get the standard user account screen). I then manually installed the new flash player as admin. verified which version, verified all Explorer settings-trusted sites & internet zones-,(7 times now) I have checked the add ons and I am enabled everywhere I'm supposed to be,I never received any errors, nothing was open during installation and still black screen!   even tried to edit the registry (I don't have the line listed by the adobe post on flash killer). I run norton and have checked it is not blocking flash player or active X controls. I am completely at a loss for what to do next? HELP!

    Hi frustratedfrequently
So, after all this time, this was the problem. Glad you found this thread:-) I wish you would have come to the Flash Forum before
    !! Better late than never.
You can Uncheck that H.A. either way, as long as it's Flash content.
I appreciate your comments more than you know:-)

  • How do I play videos without using adobe flash player?

I have a galaxy note 8.0 tablet. I am aware that adobe flashplayer is not compatible. I have downloaded adobe air, but I still am unable to play videos for school. Is there any other ways around this issue? Thank you for your help.

What videos do you mean? The PSE tutorial videos? Videos you made in Premiere Elements? Your question isn't clear, particularly not how this relates to photoshop elements. Can you explain in a little more detail just what you want to do and how it pertains to photoshop elements?

  • Programs like VIMEO say that adobe flash player isn't installed but it is isntalled

several videos try to play but say you have to install adobe flash player but I Have it installed in firefox. I look at the apps and its there and not disabled.

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
*an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
*a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
*On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
'''''You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. ''''' If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". If "Shockwave Flash" is there and is disabled, click the "Enable" button.
Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
*only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
*page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
    '''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
#'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.
'''If this reply solves your problem, please click "Solved It" next to this reply when <u>signed-in</u> to the forum.'''
Not related to your question, but...
You may need to update some plug-ins. Check your plug-ins and update as necessary:

  • Someone please help me with my flash player problems, i install and then told its not installed

i have windows 7 only on my laptop now, but it seems that i have all the necessary products needed to play games etc.  I have all my programs that need updates marked to do so as available. I have noticed when i go to particular sites now , like games in FB or games thru my AOL they tell me i need to install the newest version of the flash player. so i do that, go back to that site, same notification appears to install. i dont know ALOT about my laptop but have learned enough to know that i should very well it should be there if i have installed it time and time again  correct? i dont understand the whole basis of what i might need for different sites/games. I have been playing the Big Fish game site since Dec. 2012 and it seems ever since i have been on a daily visit to that site SOMEHOW i cant play any other sites games now. so i read , do this, than this, if this or that is needed..........well it becomes a miss in my brain as to what they are telling/suggesting could be the problem. I truly need someone that has this knowledge to help me learn. i use to play on the webkinz world site for over a year, so last night i thought i would go back in there and again the flash player notice. so something has changed that i am unaware of it and how to solve it. i totally appreciate any help and time someone could give me. thank you,

In any case, the Flash Player forum is here:

  • My imac will not load flash player ... i have loaded it 10000x and it still says i need flash player installed

Can some one tell me how to load flah player on my I mac i have downloaded it 10000x

I have had similar problems with both Sprint and Verizon units (Novatel u727 & u760). Solved both by going to provider sites and downloading SW.

  • Lastest Flash (16.0.0.305) is installed but Firefox still says I need Flash for most videos. Why?

I have installed flash multiple times, restarted Firefox, and everything I can think of but every time I come to a page that uses flash player it STILL Says I need Flash player to see the video or whatever is using flash. This has been going on for a while now since the last Firefox update.

In your More System Details, there is a mystery line that just says "Flash" while the official line says "Shockwave Flash". Could you use by test page to generate a list of the full information for each plugin so it's easier to figure out which one is the stranger?
    http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/jstest.asp
Scroll down a bit to the plugin list. It's the "Description" line that will say just "Flash". What is the name of the plugin?
