Cannot Post After Live Update of BIOS

System: MSI K8NGM2-FID, 4 gig Corsair, AMD 4400 X2, EVGA 7800GT, 4 Seagate 160 SATA II drives in RAID 0, HP 740vi, Sony floppy, CoolerMaster 810 Stacker case, PS Power & Cooling Turbo 510/SLI.
I just assembled the system. It POSTed fine. I installed Windows XP (SP 2), NAV 2006, Linksys USB network card, MSI LiveUpdate. I updated the BIOS 3.0 to 3.1 using Windows through the Live Update and making a rescue disk. Nothing remarkable about the update. System will not POST i.e. nothing shows up on the screen although the lights on the Corsair memory go through the appropriate cycle and the keyboard lights shine as usual. Attempted to restore from rescue—can get the disk read using control home: still no POST. Same result after using the BIOS reset switch on the board.
I get no automated to my message to MSI online tech support.
What can I do?

try shutting off, disconnecting the power cord, removing the CMOS battery, tap the power button a few times to discharge any residual power, then leave the battery out for a couple of minutes, before refitting it, then reconnect the power cable, power back on, enter BIOS setup and re-enter BIOS settings

  • K8T Neo Fir won't post after live update to 2.0 bios

After running the Live Update which updated the bios to 2.0, I can't boot into XP (SP 1).  I can boot in safe mode.  Not sure how to get this running again.  I've tried everything I can think of, any ideas on what I might try?
Setup was running fine prior to bios update.

    Promise Sata Raid 1 - 2 80GB Sata drives
    Radeon 9600

I tried executing "fixboot" from the recovery console but this may have made things worse.  After running this successfully, the console reported that it had written a new boot vloc on teh C partition in FAT32.  The SATA drives are not formatted in FAT32!  Now I don't get the Windows initial screen at all, it just goes back to the bios and restarts.  I can still startup in safe mode though.
Maybe the Recovery Console can't see the drives properly because the Promise drivers are not loaded?  Any ideas?  I'm in deep now!

  • Z77a-g45 wont post after live update

Maybe someone could help me? I have been using this z771-g45 board for 5 months without problem, rock solid all the time. Except 4 days ago i used MSI's Live Update to update everything and after it rebooted it went into a constant restart cycle (on for 10 seconds the off) with no video, no access to anything. It had no post beeps. I let it continue for 10 minutes before I shut off the power. I have tried removing everything but the video and power to the board but still just loops. Any thoughts?

If the board is new, contact the reseller else contact MSI for rma:>>How to contact MSI.<<
If out of warrantly, you can also use a computer shop with spi programmer to get it fixed.

  • Z77A-G43 login loop after Live update BIOS to V25.1

    Hi,
Z77A-G43 windows login loop after Live update BIOS to V25.1
I'm able to see the BIOS menu. But when i continue to login to windows, it loops.
i would like to know on how to proceed on this. I tried safemode and i was able to login.
I cannot find the clear cmos jumper on this board.
Appreciate your response on this one. Thanks!
edit: I just tried removing the board battery. But still encountering the same issue.
    -Paul

There is no such BIOS version for this board.
The last BIOS is v2.11  see here http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z77A-G43.html#/?div=BIOS
As for the CMOS jumper. This must be the most stupid saving that MSI has ever done. They leave out the jumper, obviously in an effort to save costs.
Check your manual to find the location of the clear CMOS pins. Then you need to short these with a jumper from somewhere else  or use a metal object to connect the pins.

  • Live Update MB BIOS

Live Update 6 is telling me my current MB BIOS is 2.9 and the current is 2.A0. I click to download and it downloads "DL_FILE"
Is this a file I'd use to flash the BIOS? Is flashing the BIOS the only way to upgrade it?

Everything is working fine, but LU says it has increased support for AMD cards so.....
Edit to add, When I DL the BIOS it flashes in the DL page for a second then is gone. Seems to not be downloading.

Quote from: HenryW on 14-June-15, 08:23:59
2.9 is the latest BIOS dated 2014-07-21. 2A is older dated 2014-05-12. Anything in BIOS 2A will also be included in 2.9.
Actually the time stamp on E7816IMS.2A0 is 2015-5-9 and the date in the text file is 2015/05/12, so they need to fix this page.

There is no reason for you to fool with BIOS update because you now have the latest already.
    That is probably true

Stop fooling with Live Update for BIOS before you screw up the BIOS and render your MB useless.
I's say just stop fooling with Live Update.

Do you have compatibility issues with your AMD card? If not there is nothing in it for you but the risk of bricking the board.

  • 945p neo3 Problem after live update bios

    Hi,
After I made the update trought live update, my computer doesn't start, I don't know what to do?
When I restarted it only shows the logo, if I hit DEL or TAB keys it shows to the start of the boot but it freezes.
I already clear the cmos, did anything that i had found on this forum, but nothing works.
I don't have the chance of doing anything because it won't gets the part to enter in bios.
It only appears in the screen thre lines:
    AMIBIOS 2005.....
    MSI 945PL Neo A7236IMS V1.9 Date: 08/07/06 08:05:52
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU               6400 @ 2.13 GHz , Speed:
    and nothing else appears.
One of the things that is very strange is if my board is a 945p neo3 why it happears 945 pl neo, did the live update flash my motherboard with a wrong bios version????
    is what it looks.
Any ideas to fix this, if there is a fix?
I don't see anything, because the motherboard don't even reaches the process of boot, so I can't try to flash a other version of bios because the process never reaches the time to boot from floppy, usb, disk..
    HELP PLEASE,
    Thanks in advance,
    Nuno

"Thanks for the ISO File, everything is now correct, the problem with the memory was related with checksum, now happears the 4096 MB."
Nope they was 2 separate problems, solved with one hit.
"About I couln't start your application, whith the historial of your application and antivirus that I saw on the post about it, i got suspecious right away of my antivirus solution.
So to help, I uninstall and after that i could run it, I use Symantec Endpoint Proctection, is the corporate solution from symantec that is replacing the old one known as SAV - Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. I didn't find any  message in the logs of it, but the fact is that if I have this solution installed I could not run USB tool, if I Uninstall I could run it."
Probably same resource conflict with your AV (some kind of system restriction) which cause Tool unable to proceed properly and terminating itself.
Can't duplicate your issue. I was using SAV - Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition(Up to date) till now and Tool perform well,
Just installed and updated Symantec Endpoint Protection (Updated to latest definition with all protection activated) and the Tool perform well as expected too.
    "now happears the 4096 MB"
    Nice

  • B75MA-E33 - long time to post after installing most recent bios update

I installed the bios update from the product page for this motherboard and flashed it directly from the utility within the bios.  It installed fine, but after installing this update the post time has increased from about 10 seconds to anywhere between one and five minutes.  It sits on the screen with the "A2" code in the bottom right corner before loading the msi splash screen.  I searched the forum but didn't see anyone else reporting this.  Anyone have any idea what's causing this?  I verified that the settings in the bios haven't changed.

  • 870A-G54 Black screen after Live Update bios

    Hi everybody,
My computeur works fine since 3years, I change nothing inside, I just want to upgrade all drivers and bios because sometimes the computeur was freezing without any reason....
So...I installed live update...Live update processed to the flash of the bios to the latest version, everything was ok, auto-reboot and.... black screen !!!!
Visually all is fine : led on, fan ok, fan of the video card too, hard drive is launching but nothing in the screen.
I already read all the post about the same problem, I try to reset the bios by unplugging the cord of the psu and move the jumper : nothing...
I change the video card : nothing more...
When I unplugged all the ram I heard 3 bips, and when 1 or more dimm present there is no bip.
I know there is a problem with this fu***** bios update but can you have an idea for my problem and help me ???!!!
    Thanks.

  • P67a-gd53 wont boot after live update

my computors been fine for the last 12 months but for some daft reason i downloaded live update 5 last night and set it off
today the computor was on when i came to it (after i turned it off last night)
    blank screen
i pressed reset and it started looping initial boot
comes on 2 beeps waits a few seconds fans running and shuts off
few seconds later and it repeats
comes on 2 beeps waits a few seconds fans running and shuts off
all 6 aps leds are on during the boot
im guessing something in the live update has killed my motherboard?

Try pulling the PSU power cord, removing the battery for awhile, clear CMOS. If it will then get to the UEFI/BIOS screen, reset and see how it goes. If the OS was loaded under AHCI, be sure to remember to set the SATA controller mode again and also set the correct boot order.
Added: And remove Live Update from your computer.

  • Ran Live Update 3 BIOS 1.2 to 1.6--Windows XP Pro Wont Start

Earlier today I saw that there was a new version of Live Update.  I was too afraid to flash the bios manually (not that Live Update is automated, it just helps you create the flash disk) and Live Update 2 didn't work last time I tried, I thought I would give it a go.  Everything went fine, the intial boot screen shows that 1.6 was successfully installed, but when Windows went to load the safe mode option screen came up.  I selected the continue booting windows normally option, thinking this was just an effect of the BIOS flashing process and nothing to worry about.  The boot up process went as far as the XP Pro splash screen but the machine reset before the green loading Bar would do its thing.  With continued attempts the same result occurred.  Safe mode didn't work either.  It reported damaged a damaged NTFS file (which would explain why the OS couldnt load).  It also reported another file in another attempt, but I can't remember what it was.  I followed the suggestion and popped in the setup cd.  After all the setup files were loaded up it displayed the Starting Windows... dialog and I selected repair.  This brought me to a DOS screen (is that normal?) and as I am DOS illiterate I was screwed.  So I restarted to try again and then on the Starting Windows... dialog after loading the setup file off of the CD it reset instantly, just like when i first tried to start the computer.  Its as if it refuses to let windows load wether it is off of the CD or the disk.  I would GREATLY appreciate any/everyone's feedback on how to remedy this problem.  THANKS!

When the bios is flashed, it sometimes changes the way the chipset or board layout looks to Windows. Windows HATES CHANGES OF THAT NATURE! Your crash is common to the change. Win 2K does the same thing. When you do a repair in winXP Pro, tell it to install at the screen where you FIRST saw the repair prompt. The disk may ask a few more questions like where to load to, and then scan the drive and say "searching for previously installed versions of Windows". it should find your already loaded version and ask you again if you want to repair. At this point, which should be the SECOND time it has asked you about repairing, you should say yes. The repair process is pretty much automatic from there. Just like a fresh install. You will have to load all your drivers over again, just like a fresh install. This also works when you change motherboards and want to keep all your stuff intact. Good Luck!

  • BIG PROBLEM after Live Update installed

I installed the live update and now my system has crashed!
During my initial set up of this system I was having overheating issues. I stopped this by selecting the Advanced preset setting in the BIOS.
Well after installing the Live update the system restarted and installed the recommended updates for the mobo. I once again restarted the system only to have it shut doen within 30 - 40 seconds (never even got Windows to completely boot). I tried several times with the same outcome. I then remembered the over heating issue I had during the build. I looked back here to see how I solved the problem. I tried to preform the same steps I took earlier (going into BIOS and setting the advanced preset) each time being shut down before being able to accomplish the task. I am now left with a stone cold quiet system! I get the power switch to light up on the case and 2 of the LED's on the board turm blue. I have tried the mobo power button and the reset button with no luck!
    Thoughts?

Why you didn't tell this until now?
You tell that you've installed Live Update, not mention that you've proceed with BIOS update too...
Repeat again >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed,
and leave 1 memory stick in 1st dimm, then try to boot
My apologies, you are correct. In the Live updates, BIOS was among the items to be updated.
I already tried the clear CMOS excatly as indicated in the link/video.

  • Live Update 4 -- BIOS download fail

Hi, I used Live Update 4 to get the Intel INF update, and I've tried to download and install the BIOS update from 1.30 to 2.50, but I get the message "URL is invalid... Download fail".
Do I assume the fix in this BIOS update -- 'CPU temperature is too high.' -- is not a critical fix, or should I manually download the BIOS update and make a boot CD to install it?
    Cheers!

Try this. Unplug everything, leave nothing plugged into the ps but the video card and one stick of ram. Remove mb battery for ten minutes, reinsert. Also unplug the ps power from the motherboard, count 5 reinsert, and then restart computer. You do have a fairly weak ps too.
Can you expand on how the power supply is weak? It was a fairly standard one at the time, seven years ago (remember the components are that old too). I know it's cheap and not an Antec, Thermaltake or Cooler Master variety.
I'll give the other power supply a go, and then maybe try shorting the CMOS JBAT1 pin... after that, remove the battery and test it.

  • Live Update 2 BIOS version

Has anyone tried updating the BIOS on the Neo FIS2R via Live Update 2 lately? Is it still v1.2 or the new v1.4? And, did everything run okay during & after the update? Thanks!

Richard - Good news ... I finally have Windows recognizing all 128MB of video memory.
Some body - I tried reinstalling mobo drivers and couldn't get it to work.
AGP aperature is set to 64MB at the moment and it is working.
It seems to me that something got corrupted in Windows and the registry was loading the nvidia drivers along with the msi drivers.  Also I found entries in the registry referring to my previous video card and I don't know if that contributed to the problem also.
I ended up doing a clean install of the OS and it is working at the moment.  I check the adapter properties as I install software to see if there is something I'm installing that screws it up again.  So far so good.
For anyone that is interested, here is what I did exactly:
    1. Format HD
2, Install Windows XP Pro with SP1
    3. Intel chipset inf
    4. Intel application accelerator
    5. Downloaded/installed all updates available at Windows Update website (excluding drivers)
    6. Install Nvidia 43.45 drivers
    7. Install other device drivers
    8. Install software.
I'm still need to install the remaining software, but at this time it looks like the problem is fixed.
Richard - Thanks for your patience and all your help!!  I appreciate it!!
