Cannot print from Time Capsule

I've had Time Capsule running for 4 years with no problems whatsover.  Yesterday, for some reason, TC stopped working.  I had to reset it.  Everything is back up and running on my network, except for one weird problem with my printer.  I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX580 printer plugged into the USB port on the Time Capsule.  Never had a problem with this printer since day one with TC.  Yesterday, when I reset TC and readded my printer driver to Print and Fax, it will not print using the driver I used before I reset the Time Capsule.  It will print using Gutenprint drivers (which I prefer not to use).  I want to use the Epson SP RX580 Series driver, but nothing happens when I send prints using that driver.  I see the printer icon in my dock, but when I open the icon there is no print queue.  I've deleted and added printer to no avail.
Can anyone help me figure this out?  I went on Epson website and downloaded the latest drivers for my printer, but still cannot print using RX580 drivers -- only Gutenprint.

4years is end of economic life of the Gen 1 TC.. it could actually have failed.
A few things to do.. reset to factory.. go back to 7.5.2 firmware in the TC.
If that fails then I would say the TC has become faulty.. it is simply time for a new one.

  • How CAN I PRINT FROM TIME CAPSULE?

I've set up Time Capsule through Airport utility and Time Machine but had some problems doing so. Consequently, it was set up with print cable still hooked to iMac. Now that Time Capsule is functioning as a backup for my files, I've tried to print from Time Capsule to my HP PSC 1610 printer. I've transfered my print cable from iMac to Time Capsule and tried to make any changes necessary to print from it. But it doesn't work. What am I possibly doing wrong? I've tried following page 28 of Time Capsule setup guide (If your printer isn't responding) but that has not helped.

  • Unable to print from time capsule now

I am using a Time Capsule, to which I have connected a USB printer (HP Laserjet P1006). I was able to print (a lot) over that setup and now, suddenly, without any apparent change, I can no longer print.
I checked the printers & faxes in System Preferences, removed the installed printer and installed it again. No result.I connected the USB printer directly to my PC and I was able to print normally. The problem seems to be in the connection with the Time Capsule.
I'm using a windows PC that runs Vista if that helps.
    Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... I would have hoped that restarting the bonjour service would have got it going again.
Something has messed with it.. and often an automatic windows update is the cause of these things.. something must have shut off the bonjour service.. again I think it must be a windows update.
How long ago did this happen?? If it is just a few days or a week.. try doing a system restore back to when it used to work.
This is not much use if the drivers were upgraded and have issues with bonjour but it is worth a try.
Make sure the network did not suddenly decide to move from home to work or public in the vista computer.. take off the firewalls and ensure your network location is home.. vista can autonomously decide it is now connected to public network and cut off all local connections.. that is because it is vista.. shudder.
Are you connecting by wireless, PC to the TC??
Can I get you to use ethernet and turn the wireless off. I am not sure how much network shuffling this will require but it is always a worthwhile test.
If we can narrow the problem to update drivers or security or some other function it would make life easier.. but I have to say in the end.. vista.. shudder.. caused me to move to Macs.. I cannot offer too much more help.. other than to say.. as a computer technician in past life.. vista had one good effect.. I bailed out and moved to Mac. For whatever problems I complain about here.. and I do.. because I think Apple is going the MS route with new OS every 18months.. it still has to be better than windows.. and vista is the pits.
If you are wedded to vista.. shudder..
There are a few other ways to skin the proverbial cat.. the easiest being buying a cheap ethernet to USB print server on ebay. Printers are now available readily with network built in.. for but a few dollars more than USB models.. so people virtually throw away their old usb print servers. These are inevitably superior from vista point of view as no apple protocols are needed. And of course the better solution is simply replace the printer with a network model.. that is cheaper than a Mac I guess.. although leaving you in the clutches of vista seems hardly the actions of a friendly advisor.
Last.. the stability of the gen6 TC is not all that marvellous.. you can do a factory reset on that and redo the setup.
Use all very short names.. no spaces and pure alphanumerics.
The setup of the TC should not be done from v5 utility of course .. it should be done from Mac or iOS device.

  • Cannot print through Time Capsule to HP P1005

I cannot print to my HP P1005 through my Time Capsule. It has always been flaky connecting from my PCs on the network or my Mac. Now NOTHING can print to it. The Time Capsule shows the printer correctly. When I try to print to it from my Mac, the status just goes from "Printing" to "Stopped". I have tried various sequences of turning it on and rebooting the Time Capsule, but to no avail.

open your system preferences > print & fax
click on your printer, and click the - sign to remove it.
click on the + sign to add it again using bonjour

  • Anyone else had success with Kodak 5100 printing from Time Capsule?

So I recently bought a Time Capsule and until now have been happily printing from USB port on PC and now on Mac.
We were going to buy a wireless printer but found out that the Time Capsule supports that capability by connecting a printer to the USB on the Time Capsule.
So, set it all up, connected my Kodak 5100 and it appears to see it and lists the printer in the print utility on my Mac as location "Time Capsule".
Printer is on, paper in, ink levels ok.... print a test page and my Mac thinks it's printing but the Kodak 5100 Easyshare (!!) is doing nothing!
Having searched the blogs for a while, and mindful that the Kodak 5100 is a couple of years old now, I eventually found a solution that appears to work!!
You can download an older software for the 5100 here http://www.userdrivers.com/Printer/Kodak-All-in-One-Printer-Software-3-5-for-Mac -OS-X/download/
I have to thank someone else for suggesting this back in 2009 on another post on this forum but I can't find the post so thank you whomever it is, this still works! When you set up the driver, you need to select that you are connecting to the printer through another Mac - I think the only other option I had was to select USB connection. Once you are in, you'll notice that the software is not as user friendly as the latest versions but if you can print wirelessly from your Mac, then I'd like to think you won't care about the UI of the printer software!
I've only just done this and tested with a colour excel from MS Excel for Mac so will let you know if anything else doesn't work!

I've tried using an ethernet connection. It does work faster and I seem to get more files over, but it STILL eventually hangs. I've given up with Time Capsule and now backup to a Lacie 1Tb disk. It would nice to know what is going wrong you Apple guys!

  • Cannot print with time capsule?

We just bought the Time Capsule and the wireless printer works from the MacAirBook but not from the IPAD2 and also not from our new IMAC....

    Sandra2012-
I have had no problem printing through my Time Capsule.  I have also tried several other model Apple AirPorts with success.
Note that your MacBook Air and iMac do not use AirPrint.  They use the printer's native printing language.  For printing to work on the iPad, your printer must be compatible with AirPrint.  See <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356> for a list of compatible printers.
If your printer is not on that list, your best option may be to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Programs such as Printopia and FingerPrint can do that, and are reported to work well.
As far as your iMac is concerned, try deleting and re-adding the printer.

  • Cannot restore from Time Capsule after hard drive replacement (recall)!

Hard drive was replaced on a recall from Apple. I have spent weeks on the phone with Applecare whose conclusion now is that a WD drive I had connected about a year ago (and which was disconnected and software uninstalled) has corrupted the files on the Time Capsule (?) Anyone heard of that?
I am a photographer and all my photos are there (?) The capsule appears to be quite full.
Anyways Apple won't pay for recovery since they say 3d party software caused the issue.. WHY DO THEY SELL THOSE DRIVES IN THE STORE THEN?
    Solutions anyone?

    See Pondini's <a href="http://Pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html">TM FAQs</a>, for starters.
As for why they carry 3rd-party stuff in the stores, that's to satisfy their customers desires, but they don't guarantee them to work. WD externals have s a history of being crapola w/Macs, since they're focused on windows boxes.

  • Cannot restore from Time Capsule backup wirelessly to Mountain Lion Retina

I just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display and a Time Capsule router. The Time Capsule has supposedly backed up my macbook for a few days but when I try a complete restore from the Time Capsule backup wirelessly, it fails. New to Apple but do remember"can't access time capsule" even though network works fine.

  • How do I print from time capsule

I plugged my printer into the usb port on my time capsule... now what?

Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Print and Fax
Click the + (plus button at the bottom of the printer list)
Does the name of your printer appear in the next box?
If yes....click the printer name to highlight it and then click Add at the lower right of the window
Try to print. Be sure to select the "correct" printer since you likely have it installed twice in two locations at this point...at your computer...and at the Time Capsule. You must choose the correct location in the print dialog window.
Note....if you have an All-in-One type of device, only the print function is supported at the Time Capsule location. If you need to copy, scan, fax, or perform maintenance checks, you will need to connect the device directly to your computer and restart the device.
If no.....your printer software has not been installed. Contact the printer manufacturer to download the latest printer drivers for your device. If still no luck.....not all printers are compatible, so that may be the case here.

  • Cannot stream from time capsule attached disk to Apple TV

    Hi,
I have my movies and TV Shows on a disk connected to my Time Capsule. All these videos are present in iTunes and when I want to watch them on my Mac, everything works great. The problem is when I try to watch them from AppleTV (2nd generation). Then, I get the error "There was a problem loading this content, please try again later".
I assume the problem is caused by either one of the two issues:
    1) The disk spins down after a while when not in use and/or
    2) The disk is not mounted in Finder all the time
When I play the video in iTunes, the disk spins up, is automatically mounted in Finder, and playback starts.
When I play the video in AppleTV, nothing happens and the error occurs.
But when I first play any videos in iTunes, and then play a video on AppleTV, it works.
So, is this a bug in Apple TV / iTunes Home Sharing? Should the video not get mounted automatically as well?
What's the workaround? Force the video to be mounted all the time? How do I do this? There's not such option in Airport Utilities.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook air restored from time capsule backup cannot find ms office product key

Had a moisture problem on my Macbook Air.  Had to replace with newer pc as could not wait a week for repair.  Had been using Time Machine and a Time Capsule hard drive to back up and the final backup was about 5 minutes before the spill.
So, I was able to fully restore the new laptop from Time capsule.  Only problem is that I had purchased MS Office and while the programs are restored, when I launch MS Word, it wants the product code.  I cannot find my cd and packaging with the product code from my original purchase.  Any way to get the code off the Time capsule backup?  It must be stored there somewhere but I wonder if it was encrypted and somehow linked to a physical something on the damaged MBAir.
I'm hoping to not have to buy MS Office again.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • I cannot transfer my iTunes library to the new macbook pro from time capsule, what to do?

what to do to transfer itune library from time capsule into the new mac book pro(retina)?

You have an Apple Store across the street, how convenient...  I think you should just walk over and ask.
NOTE:  Your iTunes library exists on your computer.  Unless you subscribe to Apple's iTunes Match service (which matches or uploads your library's songs and playlists into iCloud), you cannot use another computer and access your library.
However, you can download previous purchases from the iTunes Store (at no cost) into a different iTunes library (not your library), and then set up the iPod to sync to that library, or set it to Manually manage music and videos, and manually load the songs (and other content) to your iPod.  The manual method may be better in this case, since you won't be accessing that computer's iTunes library again.
To do this, go to the iTunes Store Home screen.  Sign in using your Apple ID (the one you used to make the purchases).  Click Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  On the Purchased screen, you can find and download previous purchases.  It may not be available for audiobook purchases.
After the iPod has the content, you should probably delete everything you downloaded in the computer's iTunes library.

  • Cannot access prior time capsule backup

    Hi,
About 2 weeks ago I ran into a problem with my iPhoto library.  I was trying to import photos from a camera and it took forever.  After watching iPhoto being non-responsive for several hours I decided to force it to quit via the Activity Monitor.  After I re-launched iPhoto, I noticed that there were many photos missing (shown as grey boxes) in my iPhoto library, but I can still locate the original photos through the finder.  I did a rebuild in iPhoto but that did not fix the problem.  In the meantime, my Time Capsule was running and did several backups.  After tinkering with the iPhoto problem for another day without much success, I decided to restore from Time Capsule the version of the iPhoto library before I ran into the import problem.
The first time I tried to restore from Time Machine, it failed because I didn't have enough disk space left on my MBP.  My old iPhoto library was 150 GB but I only had 10 GB of free space left on my MBP.  So I decided to erase the rebuilt iPhoto library (around 120 GB) and other large files on my MBP to free up some space.  When I tried to empty the trach can, it took hours and eventually became stuck with little activity going on.  After waiting patiently for a few more hours, I decided to re-launch the Finder but could not and had to force it to quit.  Then I rebooted.  Afterwards, I took everything out of the trach can and placed files into the trash can one at a time and emptying it with only one item in the trash can.  I was able to delete and empty the trash can this way, but a new problem appeared.  In both the Activity Monitor and Finder's Get Info, the space free number stopped changing regardless of how many files I deleted and emptied on my MBP.  By my own estimate I should have at least 180 GB of free space but the system seemed to think that there was only 140 GB of free space and I still could not restore the original iPhoto library.
I thought perhaps by forcing the Finder to quit while it was trying to empty the trash can had somehow corrupted the file system.  So I re-installed Lion from the recovery disk assistant.  When Lion was installed and going through its initial set-up procedures, I made the mistake of not choosing "restore from time machine backup" because I was afraid doing so would also restore the corrupted file system.  I also made the mistake of accepting the default name for my MBP instead of using the name I had before.  Fortunately re-installing Lion did resolve the free disk space issue.  Next I rebooted with Lion's recovery disk assistant and chose "restore from time machine backup".  The restore took a long time and did work, but it restored to the snapshot of my system without the iPhoto library.  Because the restore took a long time, I wasn't sitting at my desk the entire time.  After the restore was completed, Time Machine did a backup under the name machine name.  Now I cannot find my old Time Machine backup from which to restore my original iPhoto library.
I have tried holding down the control key while clicking on the Time Machine icon to invoke the "Browse Other Time Machine Disks" option, but it found nothing.  From a Finder window, I can connect to my Time Capsule.  It shows that there is a disk called Data-1.  When I open Data-1, there is a MBP13.sparsebundle, which is not the original sparsebundle.  Is there a way to re-access my old Time Machine backup?
From the Time Machine panel in systems preferences, it shows that there is only 20 GB of space left in Time Capsule (out of 500 GB).  I think my old backup is still there.  I've read Pondini's Time Machine Troubleshooting but still cannot resolve this problem.  What am I missing?  Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I had to have my Time Capsule repaired a few years ago.
By Apple?  I've never heard of them repairing one; they just replace them.  Any idea what they did?
Since then, the backup disk was always labeled Data-1.  I have restarted my Time Capsule a few times and the result is the same each time.
What do you see via the Finder?  In Column View, it should be something like this:
I also tried to use TechTool Pro to check the Time Capsule but couldn't do so because connecting my MBP to the Time Capsule's USB port does not seem to give it access.  (Is there a way?)
No, the USB port is for connecting a disk or printer only, not a Mac.  Disk Utility or similar 3rd-party apps can't see the TC's disk; they can see, and may be able to repair, a sparse bundle if you can mount it via the Finder.  See #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
I suspect that my old backups are still in the Time Capsule but because my computer name has changed it is not allowing me access to the old backup.
Changing the computer name won't cause that.  Replacing the logic board in your Mac will, or sometimes if the sparse bundle is damaged, Time Machine will create a new one.

I have lost my iCal data and am having a hard time retrieving it from Time Capsule. I am using Mountain Lion OS om iMac. Can anyone help?

You cannot see it because it is hidden.. one of those great things apple does.. if it is hidden in your Mac then it will be hidden in the Time Machine Backup.
You will need to restore the entire folder to a different location.. and unhide it.
There is some info here about restoring particular files or folders.
    http://pondini.org/TM/16.html
And some info from Lion which should also relate to Mountain Lion.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3231381?start=0&tstart=0
There is stuff about recovery near the end.
One wonders sometimes when Apple make these decisions if they ever think about what happens when something goes wrong. Hiding files..???
