Cannot print on printer on Time Capsule due to insufficient access

I have an Epson CX7800 printer plugged into my Time Capsule and two computers on my network. My wife's computer, which is running Windows XP Media Edition, has no trouble printing; Bonjour Printer Wizard worked on her computer with no problem. My iMac has no trouble printing when using OS X, but will not print using Windows Vista Home Premium. It does not make any difference whether I operate Vista from Boot Camp or with Parallels. I go through all the steps with the Bonjour Printer Wizard and I get the following error, "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer." *What does it take to get access to the selected printer in Vista?*
I found out in Windows discussion forum that there was a "hidden' administrator account. I successfully set up and logged onto that, which was the only way I could uninstall and reinstall Bonjour, but it didn't help. I also downloaded the latest driver for the printer from Epson that is compatible with Vista 32-bit, but it also didn't help. I can print in Windows Vista if I unplug the printer's USB cord from the Time Capsule and plug it directly into my iMac, but that defeats the purpose of having the printer networked.

I found out from a Windows forum that Windows Vista has a secret "super-administrator" account that I needed to set up and run Bonjour for Windows from there. It solved the main problem, but I still need to plug the printer directly into my wife's Windows computer when she uses certain software, such as software to print picture, or when she scans documents. In other words, the frequency of cable switching has declined from infuriating to annoying.

  • Cannot print through Time Capsule to HP P1005

I cannot print to my HP P1005 through my Time Capsule. It has always been flaky connecting from my PCs on the network or my Mac. Now NOTHING can print to it. The Time Capsule shows the printer correctly. When I try to print to it from my Mac, the status just goes from "Printing" to "Stopped". I have tried various sequences of turning it on and rebooting the Time Capsule, but to no avail.

open your system preferences > print & fax
click on your printer, and click the - sign to remove it.
click on the + sign to add it again using bonjour

  • Cannot print from Time Capsule

I've had Time Capsule running for 4 years with no problems whatsover.  Yesterday, for some reason, TC stopped working.  I had to reset it.  Everything is back up and running on my network, except for one weird problem with my printer.  I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX580 printer plugged into the USB port on the Time Capsule.  Never had a problem with this printer since day one with TC.  Yesterday, when I reset TC and readded my printer driver to Print and Fax, it will not print using the driver I used before I reset the Time Capsule.  It will print using Gutenprint drivers (which I prefer not to use).  I want to use the Epson SP RX580 Series driver, but nothing happens when I send prints using that driver.  I see the printer icon in my dock, but when I open the icon there is no print queue.  I've deleted and added printer to no avail.
Can anyone help me figure this out?  I went on Epson website and downloaded the latest drivers for my printer, but still cannot print using RX580 drivers -- only Gutenprint.

4years is end of economic life of the Gen 1 TC.. it could actually have failed.
A few things to do.. reset to factory.. go back to 7.5.2 firmware in the TC.
If that fails then I would say the TC has become faulty.. it is simply time for a new one.

  • Cannot print with time capsule?

We just bought the Time Capsule and the wireless printer works from the MacAirBook but not from the IPAD2 and also not from our new IMAC....

    Sandra2012-
I have had no problem printing through my Time Capsule.  I have also tried several other model Apple AirPorts with success.
Note that your MacBook Air and iMac do not use AirPrint.  They use the printer's native printing language.  For printing to work on the iPad, your printer must be compatible with AirPrint.  See <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356> for a list of compatible printers.
If your printer is not on that list, your best option may be to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Programs such as Printopia and FingerPrint can do that, and are reported to work well.
As far as your iMac is concerned, try deleting and re-adding the printer.

I connected my Canon printer to time capsule, and can print OK. However, I can't get the printer scanner to work. How do you set up the scanner with Time Capsule?

You cannot use USB. It has to be a network capable printer.. is it?? You did not indicate how it is connected.. but by wireless or ethernet then scanning is possible otherwise not.

  • How CAN I PRINT FROM TIME CAPSULE?

I've set up Time Capsule through Airport utility and Time Machine but had some problems doing so. Consequently, it was set up with print cable still hooked to iMac. Now that Time Capsule is functioning as a backup for my files, I've tried to print from Time Capsule to my HP PSC 1610 printer. I've transfered my print cable from iMac to Time Capsule and tried to make any changes necessary to print from it. But it doesn't work. What am I possibly doing wrong? I've tried following page 28 of Time Capsule setup guide (If your printer isn't responding) but that has not helped.

  • After resetting Time Capsule, how do I access my previous backups?

After re-setting Time Capsule, how do I access my previous backups?

    Access it to do what??
You can migrate the data.. see Pondini instructions for migrate. (or from apple).
His instructions are a little out of date.. but still more useful than the over generalised stuff Apple give you.

If you wanted to continue using the backup with TM.. no you cannot inherit a backup from a different machine.
To simply access the backup .. then open the sparsebundle from finder or TM..
See the instructions in Pondini.. Q15-17 here.

How I can set up the DynDns inside the Time capsule, or only with the Time capsule I have external access from a PC for ex.?

MobileMe service is finished.. to get remote access to the Mac or TC you use iCloud account.. but that is for files.. not to access web cams.
Without dyndns client in the TC, you can perhaps run dyndns on the computer or video recorder..many of these will have clients built into them.
Even better get a static Public IP from your ISP.. that is the correct professional way to do it.
Or you can use whatever broadband modem you have and remove the TC as the main router.. simply bridge it. Use your adsl router for connection. Almost all adsl have built in dyndns.
Sorry your language is very hard to follow.. and I am sure you are finding my answers similarly difficult.
Basically the TC is about the hardest device to setup because it is lacking important networking functions.
Get a vpn router and use vpn connection is far superior to any other method. But you cannot do it with TC.

  • Cannot print to Windows printer using Time Capsule

    Hi all,
I recently bought Time Capsule and am having some printing problems. Here's the situation:
I have a printer connected to a Windows PC and want to print to it using my Mac. Now, before I bought Time Capsule and used a cheap router this worked fine. However, now when I try to print from my Mac to the Windows PC I get the following error messages:
    "Connection failed: NTSTATUS_BAD_NETWORKNAME"
"Unable to connect to CIFS host, will retry in 60 seconds..."
I reckon that the Windows PC is blocking all requests from my Time Capsule. To test I've tried turning off the firewall on Windows and it's anti-virus software (Kaspersky) and still no luck.
And moving the printer to my Time Capsule is not really a solution either.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I did some searching -- more info: This is apparently due to an upgrade to CUPS, which is the Common Unix Printing System (available to administer directly at: http://localhost:631/ ) This is the way to add a printer if you feel especially geeky.
    There is another discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6914585&#6914585
about this, but apparently it is not a resolution, just a description of the problem.
So, I really don't want to deinstall the 2008-002 update, if I can help it. I already installed version 1.1, which did not resolve the issue. I would like to be able to print to my Windows-Active Directory printers without resorting to IP printing. It sounds like this is something Apple has to fix, from the discussions I read. Is this true? And if so, any ideas about how long Apple will take to fix it?

  • How to add a WPS client ( not a printer) to Time Capsule?

    Hello,
I am trying to add a WPS device to Time Capsule 802.11ac firmware 7.7.3 using Airport Utility 6.3.2.
I have to add a device that can be connect to the network via WPS only ( it is a Mitsubishi MAC-557IF-E module that control via internet through Mistubishi MELCLOUD server my home air conditioning)
Airport Utility lets to add a WPS printer only. I have tried to add the device as WPS printer and Airport Utility shows the device ( with its right MAC address) in Network tab > Access Contro list . Unfortunately then  Time Capsule does not assign to it any IP address; so my WPS device cannot connect to internet.
Just to be shure the device is functioning properly I have tested it with another (Belkin) router with WPS button and it works fine.
It would be great to be able to connect it vie Time Capsule.
    Any suggestion is welcome.
    Thanks,
    distrits

The why is known to Apple alone.. so you have to ask them.
But due to the weakness of WPS .. it is a major security flaw. I can understand Apple not wanting to use it.. but that is no excuse to not make it workable when people do need it. I guess one button is one too many.. Apple already have a reset button.. having a WPS button would cause confusion.
I would go back and attempt it again.
But this time make sure you are using SMB standard wireless names. Everything in the world (even apple since Mavericks) uses SMB network. The problem is Apple wireless names are not SMB compliant.
So let me recommend you start over. Factory reset the TC.
    Give it a name. TCgen5
Please use different names for both wireless bands.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz and TC5ghz for 5ghz bands.
Please set the 2.4ghz to channel 11, as that does seem to help. (if you have lots of wireless around you test on 8 or 9).
Then test with no security. See if the gadget will work. The reason to test with no security is not all wireless is compliant to standards. If it fails with no security then there is no hope with any other security level. So only if it passes continue to the next step.
Use WPA2 Personal security at first with a shortish password.. say 8-10 characters.. pure alphanumeric of course.
If that fails then you can try WPA+WPA2 but that is significantly poorer security.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to print from time capsule now

I am using a Time Capsule, to which I have connected a USB printer (HP Laserjet P1006). I was able to print (a lot) over that setup and now, suddenly, without any apparent change, I can no longer print.
I checked the printers & faxes in System Preferences, removed the installed printer and installed it again. No result.I connected the USB printer directly to my PC and I was able to print normally. The problem seems to be in the connection with the Time Capsule.
I'm using a windows PC that runs Vista if that helps.
    Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... I would have hoped that restarting the bonjour service would have got it going again.
Something has messed with it.. and often an automatic windows update is the cause of these things.. something must have shut off the bonjour service.. again I think it must be a windows update.
How long ago did this happen?? If it is just a few days or a week.. try doing a system restore back to when it used to work.
This is not much use if the drivers were upgraded and have issues with bonjour but it is worth a try.
Make sure the network did not suddenly decide to move from home to work or public in the vista computer.. take off the firewalls and ensure your network location is home.. vista can autonomously decide it is now connected to public network and cut off all local connections.. that is because it is vista.. shudder.
Are you connecting by wireless, PC to the TC??
Can I get you to use ethernet and turn the wireless off. I am not sure how much network shuffling this will require but it is always a worthwhile test.
If we can narrow the problem to update drivers or security or some other function it would make life easier.. but I have to say in the end.. vista.. shudder.. caused me to move to Macs.. I cannot offer too much more help.. other than to say.. as a computer technician in past life.. vista had one good effect.. I bailed out and moved to Mac. For whatever problems I complain about here.. and I do.. because I think Apple is going the MS route with new OS every 18months.. it still has to be better than windows.. and vista is the pits.
If you are wedded to vista.. shudder..
There are a few other ways to skin the proverbial cat.. the easiest being buying a cheap ethernet to USB print server on ebay. Printers are now available readily with network built in.. for but a few dollars more than USB models.. so people virtually throw away their old usb print servers. These are inevitably superior from vista point of view as no apple protocols are needed. And of course the better solution is simply replace the printer with a network model.. that is cheaper than a Mac I guess.. although leaving you in the clutches of vista seems hardly the actions of a friendly advisor.
Last.. the stability of the gen6 TC is not all that marvellous.. you can do a factory reset on that and redo the setup.
Use all very short names.. no spaces and pure alphanumerics.
The setup of the TC should not be done from v5 utility of course .. it should be done from Mac or iOS device.

  • Problem with Epson Printer and Time Capsule

I have a new Time Capsule, already gone through first backup etc... I tried to connect my 2 month old Epson RX 680 to the TC via USB. I have tried everything and still cannot print wirelessly. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted both TC and printer, running out of ideas. Any suggestions why I can't print wirelessly?
BTW, works fine with USB from printer directly into macbook pro.

I attempted this routine with my Epson R380 and this did not help. I do have a working HO OfficeJet 6210xi working off Time Machine. I'm wondering if an expert with CUPS can help determine the problem from the logs?

Do a google around for that printer and airport usb.. (since airport is more common).
    eg. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1785847?start=0&tstart=0
Not all printers work or work well through usb print server.. often the drivers are just not written for remote usb connection. Or the printer is GDI type and actually needs direct connection to process the job.
Proper network inkjet printers are cheap.. keep the Canon connected to a computer if you want.. and get a wireless or ethernet network printer.. do not use the USB.. use the printers own internal print server.. and these days make sure it does airprint if you want to use iOS devices.
Remember the printer is cheap.. the companies make all their money on blades ink cartridges. Which they now add chips to, to prevent you cheating and buying OEM types.
