Cannot print or make pdfs.

Hi!
For some while I have not been able to print (with any printer) or create pdfs. Shortly, whatever I could usually do after pressing command+P I can't do anymore, regardless of what program I'm doing it from. Once I click 'print' or 'create pdf' or 'view pdf in preview' or anything like that, I immediately get the error message "error while printing". So it seems to be a system issue.
When it still worked, when I opened the print dialog I would be shown a little preview in the dialog window. This little preview is now empty whatever I am trying to print or create a pdf from.
I am running mountain lion, but I have been able to print for a while from mountain lion before the problem occurred. The thing that I did shortly before I became unable to print is to upgrade to 8GB instead of 4GB of RAM. I think I have been able to print after that, but I am not entirely sure.
I did run the 'correct permissions' program from the disk utility, which repaired a lot of permissions but did not solve the printing issue.
I haven't so far been able to find a solution to this priblem online, and I'd be very glad if someone could help me resolve the issue!
Thanks a lot!

In Print & Scan system prefs, right-click in the printer list and select Reset Printing System. You'll have to add all your printers, again.

  • Cannot print InDesign or PDF files

Upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and cannot print InDesign (CS3) or PDF files on Epson 800. Illustrator and Photoshop files print just fine (as does Word etc.).
Any ideas? All my drivers are upgraded.

    Hi Bob,
    Thank you for your response.
I upgraded both through the "Software Upgrade" and then through downloading the upgrade through the Apple support site. Things do not make sense. If it's a problem with CS3, then why doesn't Acrobat print (I upgraded long ago to 9.0)? And why does Illustrator and Photoshop work? Most mysterious. I'm a very serious user of both Mac and Adobe. Still have my SE and Illustrator 88. This is a first for me.
By clean install, do you mean wiping my hard drive? Would do just about anything to not have to do that.

  • PC cannot print Mac-generated pdf-files

    Hi, I have a question:
I am using Microsoft Word to save Word documents as PDF. I can perfectly open and print them from my system, but PC users will not be able to print them (although they can see them on screen).
This is a real problem when exchanging pdf files with other users by email, especially important documents like references, where the final reader usually does not respond to me when he cannot print it out. My mail (Eudora) settings seem OK, since pdf files that I downloaded from the internet and send to PC users are readable and printable.
I always thought PDFs are universally readable. If this is a known issue, or if any of you know the answer, I would be happy to hear it.
    Thanks!
eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   eMac

Just a thought Gerrit: when you save the file on your Mac, are you remembering to add the appropriate file suffix?
PCs can't do anything with files unless they are told (by the suffix) what to do with them!

  • Cannot print or save pdf from Safari

When I try to open a page in preview from Safari to save it to my document management program or print it from Preview, I get the error message "Error in printing".  Any thoughts?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Cannot print a large PDF on Adobe Reader xi

Working in Adobe XI reader, have a large file saved to my hard drive, when I send to printer, it says cannot print, have re-downloaded the printer drivers, still get the error.

What is your operating system?  What is your Reader XI version?  Does it really just say "cannot print"?

  • Pages won't print or make PDFs

I recently purchased iWork '08 thinking it could replace Office for me. I can't even get it to print or create PDFs. The best I can do is export to Word format and use Word to print and create PDFs. I get two errors out of pages. "Error while printing" and selected pages out of range. Nothing else is having a problem. How do I fix this or at least get some genuine support out of Apple?

I'll bet you have an HP printer. It's a long-standing problem between Apple applications & HP printers, specifically AppleWorks & Pages (any version of either) & HP printers. I'll also guess that you have numbered your pages starting with a number other than 1. Try putting the specific page numbers in the print dialog. For example, if you have a six-page document but the pages are numbered 11 to 16, an HP printer doesn't know what to do. Tell it to print pages 11 to 16 & it likely will work.

  • Cannot Print/Export to PDF in OBIEE 11G

    Hello,
Since upgrading to OBIEE 11g (currently on 11.1.1.6) I have random occasions where I am unable to print a whole page or even export a single report to PDF. We experienced this when on 11.1.1.5 but all I get is an "Internet Explorer cannot dispaly this page" It is not related directly to IE as I am able to reproduce the error with Firefox as well.
Has anyone else seen and overcome this issue? I have been unsuccessful finding any information on this in Oracle's support KB. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It has been a while since I have checked this. Sorry for any delay. We have attempted to rearrange items however have had no luck.
On small break through we have is that we have a custom link setup using Microsoft IIS on our server so we can access the application from outside of our network rather than just internally. We have found that we only have the print/export issues when using this external link so there may be an issue with our IIS configuration. Just throwing that one out there in case anyone has had a similiar issue with IIS configuration and found a fix.

  • How do I set up Macintosh Classic printing to make PDFs?

A set-up that works very well, and one that I recommend, is that you maintain the latest Acrobat on the OS X side, and use it to create your PDFs. The executive summary is (1) set up printers in Classic using OS X Acrobat PPDs; (2) print PostScript files; and (3) distill in OS X.
Locate an Acrobat 7 PPD, and copy it to the Classic System Folder's Extensions\Printer Descriptions folder. In OS X, look for ADPDF7.PPD in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj.
Create either or both of (i) an Adobe PDF printer instance using Desktop Printer Utility, or (ii) a Virtual Printer, properly attached to the version 7 PPD file. To date I have not found any difference in these two. Since they're both attached to the same PPD, I would think their behavior would be the same. Note that these steps have you use standard Mac dialogs to navigate to the PPD file you copied earlier from Step 1 -- if you get to the target folder and don't see the PPD, change its type:creator to TEXT:???? or TEXT:ttxt.
Set up some good defaults. In the PostScript Settings section, I recommend Level 3 Only, Binary, and Font inclusion=all (but note that you can also choose selections to make EPS, too. In Printer Specific Options, I usually drop it down to 600. If you created a printer using Apple Desktop Utility and one using Virtual Printer, you need to do these for both.
Print to a file from FrameMaker, using one of these printers. You will find the printing options you are familiar with in the Windows world in the FrameMaker 7.0 section.
Distill the resulting file in Acrobat from OS X.

I set up my new HP Descjet 3054A . I had a problem becouse Apple give me CD as a driver. The thing was that CD wasn good for this printer becouse it was old software:) I had to go to Apple store so the specialist had to download me he wright driver. Becouse I didnt wannet to screw this up . When he downloaded driver I fired it up at house and thingworks perfect. The thing is when you download all the software from HP side . Then you have to connect your MAC to printer via USB . Fallow the instructions it should works. Worked for me. Good Luck!

  • Acrobat X Pro v10.1.9: Cannot print to Adobe PDF Printer (access is denied)

    Hello.
Suddenly I was not able to print Office 2013 files / Autocad files / Internet Explorer pages directly to Adobe PDF Printer anymore on my WINDOWS 7 Ultimate x64 sp1 computer.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat X Pro, but the issue was not resolved.
Neither after updating to the latest version (10.1.9).
When I try to print from any software (Office 2013 / AutoCAD 2012 / Others), are displayed two windows:
    a) the first one named "Printing (not responding)", with the information: "now printing the file..."
    b) the second one named "Save PDF File As", to where I do not have access to the filename fied to insert it neither to click the "cancel" button to abort the print dialog. It seems that this window is not active.
I have to click on the red "X" button on the first window to shutdown the application. Here is the error dialog I got:

When I try to print a webpage in Internet Explorer using the same printer, I get an "Adobe PDF" window stating "Access is denied".
Can anyone help me restoring this feature?

The reinstall is typically the last ditch effort to do. The first step is Help>Repair and Help>Updates. As far as Office 2013, the PDF Maker of AA X is not compatible and you can only print. In your list of errors it showed a problem with AcroTray.exe. As a first step, go to the print and select print-to-file. The file will be a PS file (maybe with a PRN extension). Once the printer if finished, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If that is successful, then the problem is with AcroTray. Check your running tasks to be sure AcroTray is indeed running. If not, that is likely the problem. If it is, then restart it (it is located in the Acrobat folder). AcroTray provides the interface between the PS creation and Distiller to automate the process of creating the PDF.

  • Cannot print to Adobe PDF from InDesign CS4 under Snow Leopard (10.6.2)

    Hello All,
Hopefully the subject line says all. Running SL and CS4, and after manually deleting the "old" Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, I am unable to print to PDF — or select "Save As Adobe PDF" under the Mac OS print dialog. This is insanely frustrating on may levels, as this was once a 3-minute operation and now has stretched into two days of futile searching for a solution.
There is a "tech doc" somewhere out there that offers a "solution". But beware, as it has not worked for me. Once you manually search for and remove the Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, you are supposed to magically be able to select the "Save As Adobe PDF" option. This is not the case for me.
Am trying to print, once again, from InDesign CS4 (NOT via the Export command as that will not allow me to set page size, or print separations). There is no Adobe PDF driver there anymore and there is no option to print PDFs. Of course, I can rest easier with the knowledge that everything is easier now in SL.

For a long time I was printing out of InDesign CS4 to a PS file and Distilling to a PDF, either composite or separated. Then Snow Leopard came along and that workflow seemed no longer available. It seems some well meaning people didn't understand a professional DTP workflow.
I had to work between two Macs to create a project and then make separations.
Eventually I went back to the Adobe InDesign forums and folks insisted that a Adobe PDF 9 printer should be available in my print drivers.
On that suggestion I completely uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and then reinstalled it.
It worked, I had the PDF printer back and can now print to a postscript file and do separations as I always have.
(Another story is that Snow Leopard killed my Epson 2200 printer)
At one stage I did an update of Acrobat 9 and it caused me to lose the Adobe printer again. Going through the procedure again brought it back and this time after a Acrobat 9 update it stuck.
In my opinion somebody screwed up. It's not enough to be able to create PDFs out of Microsoft Word. There are people out here trying to make a living and need to be able to create print separations for some offset printers.

I have a 48 page document I created since upgrading to Windows 7. It will not allow me to print it out or make a PDF of it- I have to do about 8 pages at a time. • Cannot print doc to pdf after online adobe acrobat pro 7 installation

downloaded CS2 from adobe website, installed successfully, can read pdf file, but cannot save words or excel doc to pdf, please help!

There is no chance that Acrobat 7's PDF printer can work in 64-bit systems. This PDF printer is used in converting Word and Excel documents to PDF.
So it is time to upgrade Acrobat along with upgrading Windows.

    Hi again,
I still didn't found the solution to my problem. In the "ascontrol.log" file of OC4J there is this warning:

  • After upgrading to Mac OS 10.6.8 my Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (v. 9.5.2) I cannot print to a PDF

After reviewing other threads going back to at least Jan. 2012, no one seems to have a satisfactory answer.  Can anyone assist with a solution?

The answer is very simple. Apple disabled the ability to create PDF by simply printing to a driver instance as part of a campaign to close what they believed to be security holes in MacOS X. If you have a way of creating PostScript from an application and saving that to a file, you of course can manually process that file with Distiller to create PDF. You can semi-automate that with Distiller's “watched folders” capability.

  • Cannot print to Adobe PDF printer from Word after upgrading to Win 7 64bit

Hi. After upgrading my operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit, I can no longer print to the Adobe PDF printer (e.g. from Word). It just sits in the Adobe PDF printer queue saying "Error" without bringing up the "Save As" dialog box, and nothing happens. I am running Adobe Acrobat 8.0.0 (I've checked for updates but it says none are available). I have tried doing a repair installation following the instructions on this website (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-file-adobepdf-dll-needed.html) but to no avail.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think it's time to upgrade. 64-bit systems weren't much in use at the time of Acrobat 8.0.
